The Woodlands Township Neighborhood Services invites you to an informative training at one of the Township’s dog parks this month. Dog Walker Watch is a crime awareness program which encourages dog walkers to serve as extra “eyes and ears” for law enforcement. During the training, participants will learn how their daily routine can assist law enforcement by being aware of their surroundings, effectively observing and ultimately calling in suspicious and/or criminal activity when it is happening.
Some of the key highlights of Dog Walker Watch training include the topics of what is suspicious, identifying a suspicious person, identifying suspicious vehicles and important information to note. Training will be conducted by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and/or the Harris County Constable’s Office Precinct 4.

Everyone has a part in the emergency planning process. Whatever Mother Nature throws at us, whether floods, hurricanes, tornadoes, fires or other emergencies, it is important to be prepared before it happens. Just as individual families need to prepare, we must also work together as a community to stay safe as well. If we plan, The Woodlands will be more resilient after an emergency occurs.
The Woodlands Get Ready events give residents the opportunity to have conversations with disaster preparedness experts, energy providers and other organizations that will help create a personalized preparedness plan for individuals, families and neighborhoods. View displays, public safety vehicles, receive free promotional items and more. The Woodlands Township will offer a free flashlight/ charger to those attending while supplies last.
CenterPoint, the Presenting Sponsor for this event, will share a presentation on their role in an emergency and will offer many safety tips for working with utilities. Entergy, as the Silver Sponsor, will share information about how they prepare for emergencies and how the restoration process works. The National Weather Service will present information about hurricanes, storms and weather emergencies. Lastly, The Woodlands Township will provide information on the resources and tools available to our residents and how to stay informed.
• How to prepare for the upcoming hurricane season and other emergencies
• Resources and tools available to help keep you informed and safe
• What to pack in your emergency kit
• Information on hurricanes and storms from the National Weather Service
• Safety tips from energy providers
• How to make a family communication plan
NEW THIS YEAR! To help kids understand their role in preparedness, many kid activities are included in this year’s event. Kids will learn while they make their own first aid kit, hurricane in a jar and more. Bring the whole family; you will not want to miss this event. Get Ready – The Woodlands Emergency Preparedness presentations are available for organizations and neighborhoods. To schedule a presentation, please call 281-210-3800.

Spring has sprung and all the children are waiting for their favorite holiday hare to come hopping down the bunny trail. Families far and wide will no doubt be making their plans for decorating, dying and hunting eggs. You can hunt high and hunt low, but there’s one place some may not think to go. We at the Riva Row Boat House know that the silly rabbit likes to hide eggs in the water, too.
Our Kayak Egg Hunt event has been a staple of the community for many years. Families flock to the docks to embark in a tandem kayak on The Woodlands Waterway®. There you will hunt for stations along the water that are brimming with filled eggs. Then hop back to Riva Row for photos with a special guest. Being on the water adds a whole new level of excitement unmatched by any egg hunt on dry land.
Pre-registration is required for this one-hour EGG-stravaganza, which is recommended for children ages 10 and under with an accompanying parent or guardian. Our tandem kayaks typically accommodate two riders. Children under 42 inches tall can ride in the middle of a tandem kayak with a parent on both sides, if needed. Otherwise, registration assumes one child and one parent per kayak. Don’t forget to check the weather and dress accordingly! Keep in mind that being on the water means your clothing may get wet. We will provide the eggs and a basket to hold them!
The Kayak Egg Hunt is held exclusively at the Riva Row Boat House. The registration fee of $50 includes a kayak for two, life jackets, paddles, plenty of eggs and boatloads of fun.
To make a reservation and explore our other activities and events, please visit www.rivarowboathouse.com.
For more information, please call 281-210-3965 or email boathouse@ thewoodlandstownship-tx.gov.
Hunting for eggs on dry land is fun, but why not take the hunt offshore with a Kayak Egg Hunt along The Woodlands Waterway? Make your reservation today by calling Riva Row Boat House at 281-210-3965.

Anew pattern of art emerges at Fidelity Investments The Woodlands Waterway Arts Festival set for April 14, 15, and 16, 2023. Along the scenic banks of The Woodlands Waterway® and in Town Green Park, this outdoor show will feature 200+ jury-selected local, national and international fine artists presenting a variety of multi-media original artwork including painting, drawing, clay, metal, woodworks, photography, mixed
media, jewelry, leather and fiber. The Woodlands Arts Council, producer of the festival, is pleased to announce ceramicist Cathra-Anne Barker as this year’s featured artist. A self-taught potter with 50 years of experience, she threw her first pot and the wheel just kept on turning. Her work is practical and personal, inspired by plants, travel, hunks of fabric and song. She does everything by hand from building kilns to mixing glazes. In the winter, she forgets that something is coming and every spring a pattern emerges that surprises her. In her studio she often wonders who she is making that piece for and loves that she gets to find out. Her featured art piece for this year is a pair of vessels in the pattern “Turtle
Pond,” which highlights many of the natural wonders found along The Woodlands Waterway®. This gorgeous pair will be auctioned at the Art Dash Party, set for the evening of April 14, 2023. Live music, entertainment, food and fun activities for kids round out this long-standing springtime tradition for families and locals. A jewel of the Texas fine arts tour, it is ranked sixth amongst fine arts festivals in the country and has been voted as the “Best Event In The Woodlands” for 11 years in a row.

The Cochran’s Crossing Village Association board has awarded its 2023 Education Grants to elementary schools in our village. Grant amounts were $1,125 given to fund teacher requests for classroom supplies, books and teaching materials. The board received two matching donations from generous residents, board member Shiva Basavanna and Priyanka Johri, of Woodlands Eco Realty. Principals and teachers at Powell Elementary, Galatas Elementary, David Elementary and Collins Intermediate Schools were delighted to receive the funds. Lisa Doornik and Pat Lowe are Education Committee co-chairs.
On February 24, 2023, our village board sponsored its first scholarship fundraiser. Our corporate sponsor, Kroger, hosted a wine tasting at the Sterling Ridge location in the newly renovated community room. Tickets were $25 per person and quickly sold out. Perry’s Restaurant provided delicious hors d’oeuvres that complemented the wine selection. This is the first of many adult events planned by the board.
Cochran’s Crossing 2023 Scholarships applications are now available. In April, five $500 scholarships will be awarded to deserving resident seniors.
All high school College and Career Center teachers have applications, and the application is also posted on our website, www.cochranscrossing.org. We are pleased that we can increase the number of scholarships from three to five this year.

Greetings from College Park Village Association! Spring is such a joyous season to be outside, and a great time to plant some colorful seasonal flowers and seed our lawns.
Students are working hard on their grades and planning for summer vacations, as are our teachers. Everyone, with sunscreen on, of course, should catch nice sun rays whenever possible and give your body that Vitamin D we all need.
Follow our Facebook page for College Park and attend some of our annual events. Sundae in the Park, in Grogan’s Forest at Tapestry Park, is on April 16, 2023, from 1 to 3 p.m. This is an ice cream and pizza social to meet our village residents who live in our College Park area.
Also taking place on April 15, 2023, from 9 a.m. to noon, is our new Business Expo. This will be our second one and it is held at Harper’s Landing Park
basketball court with vendors in tents. This is a great chance for our College Park business owners to advertise their services. Visit our website at www. villageofcollegepark.com to register.
College Park will have POOLOOZA when Harper’s Landing Pool opens in May. Watch next month for information on that event.
Our monthly board meetings are the third Monday of each month at 6 p.m. If you have resident concerns, come and sit in to share with our board and we will help guide you through process of concerns. Stay healthy and watch out for one another when out and about. We wish you a happy and joyous spring!

wildflowers begin to bloom in and around The Woodlands, residents may have questions regarding streetscape maintenance in the community.
The Woodlands Township maintains approximately 663 landscaped neighborhood entries and enhanced maintenance of over 300 miles of road rights-of-way through a combination of contracted services and in-house crews. The maintenance philosophy is to be “in harmony with nature,” leaving as much as possible to the progression of Mother Nature while meeting the adopted standards for each area. For example, neighborhood entries with improved landscapes such as groundcovers and irrigated grass are maintained approximately every 11 days year-round.
The emergence of wildflowers in February or March usually signals the start of roadside mowing on Townwide roads (such as Lake Woodlands, Gosling and Kuykendahl) and collector streets (such as Timarron, Sylvan Forest and Millbend). To help ensure viable future stands of wildflowers, during the first few cycles, roadsides and medians are “sculpture mowed” around the margin to maintain sightlines and prevent encroachment on curbs while showcasing native blooms. After the wildflower season, roadways are mowed on approximately a two-week cycle, dependent on weather conditions, for a total of 18 times per year.
When weather conditions bring high temperatures, rain, humidity, and long
growing days, roadsides can develop a “shaggy” or unkempt appearance. This is often due to Bahia grass (Bah- HEEyah), which can grow more than one foot high in less than a week. It is easily identified by its prominent V-shaped blade and seed head that can reach 30 inches. While this grass may appear unattractive in certain locations, there are benefits to this grass. Bahia limits soil erosion, requires no supplemental water or fertilizer, and provides cover for wildflowers. In this way, the Township balances seasonal aesthetics with maintenance practices that are “in harmony with nature.”
The Woodlands Township encourages residents to enjoy the natural beauty of The Woodlands.

LastNovember, Houston made headlines when it issued a mandatory Boil Water Notice (BWN). BWNs are used when an unexpected condition causes a potential biological contamination of the public water system. Common causes could be loss of system pressure, loss of disinfection or other water quality concerns. In Houston’s case, the BWN resulted from low pressure in the distribution lines. Most low-pressure situations are caused by a failed pump or a break in a main water transmission line.
Once the water system consistently tests above minimum quality standards and no longer poses a potential health risk to customers, the BWN gets lifted.
Woodlands Water performs more than 220 tests a month to ensure water quality standards are being met while a diligent maintenance and repair program keeps it highly reliable. During the past four major storm events, our system remained fully operational while many others were not. Continual reinvestment is the key. On average, Woodlands Water and our partner, the San Jacinto River Authority, dedicate
Despite best efforts, it may be necessary for Woodlands Water to issue a BWN at some point. If so, we want to make sure you’re notified immediately. Here’s how we notify our customers:

The Woodlands unique, and chances are that they will point to the trees.
Asa dynamic community situated in a natural urban forest, The Woodlands offers a one-of-a-kind environment. Whether driving through the neighborhoods, walking along the pathways or enjoying the community parks, trees and nature play an integral role in the sensory and aesthetic experience of our community.
Reforestation is key to maintaining the natural habitat of The Woodlands, in addition to the important role that trees play in keeping the environment healthy. The Township maintains an Integrated Forestry Management Plan which combines forestry, wildlife and natural resources conservation into a plan that will perpetuate the forest for years to come. The major emphasis of the plan is to maintain the existing land
as a healthy forest as well as promote native species of plants and wildlife. Reforestation plays a critical role in this plan.
The Township’s goal is to plant at least two times the number of trees that are removed each year. Approximately 60,000 trees and seedlings have been planted over the past several years and include species of oaks, Loblolly Pine, Longleaf Pine, Wax Myrtle, Yaupon, Green Ash, Elderberry and Red Maple. All planting occurs during the planting season, which usually extends from November to March.
The Township also hosts a number of events centered around reforestation for residents and volunteers, including Arbor Day and the Community Tree Planting.
Arbor Day takes place annually and includes the distribution of thousands of native seedlings to residents. The 47th Annual Arbor Day Tree Giveaway took place Saturday, January 28, 2023. More than 14,000 native seedlings were distributed to more than 800 residents
By Kacie Fuselier Gurneywho attended. Eleven varieties of seedlings were offered, each benefiting local wildlife.
The Community Tree Planting Event takes place at a different location in The Woodlands annually and offers residents the opportunity to plant trees or shrubs at a Township park or property. Volunteers are provided with tools and trees or shrubs along with a training by Township staff members about the correct way to plant a tree. At the ninth annual Community Tree Planting on February 11, 2023, more than 200 volunteers, including Township Board members, staff and residents, came together to plant trees at the Rob Fleming Aquatic Center. The event was hosted by the Township Parks and Recreation Department in collaboration with the Township Environmental Services Department.
