Autumn Colors 2020
Fall sightseeing and entertainment in full swing, but not for long By Christina Reed The Hired Pen Eastern Sierra, CA—Sightseeing and entertainment in the Eastern Sierra continue with the vivid colors of autumn on display at most elevations, and a tour of our back roads reveal aspens, cottonwoods, and rabbitbrush in shades of yellow, reds, and golds. Pack a lunch and take in the eastern leg of Highway 120, near Benton, CA, and marvel at the ribbon of fall colors in Wildrose Canyon, or watch for the herds of wild horses grazing in Adobe Valley. If fishing is still on your wish list, visit Walker Lake (north of June Lake Loop) with its aspen-lined shores for some back country angling. The angling season closes on November 15, but until then, cast a line in some of northern Mono County's creeks and lakes.
Try Your Luck Locally, in Bishop, CA, the much-anticipated grand opening of the new Wanaaha Casino (formerly the Paiute Palace Casino) is happening on Halloween, Saturday, October 31, beginning at 4 p.m. The casino's entertainment features costume and jack-olantern contests, and the Wanaaha is billed as “the Eastern Sierra's newest and best Vegas style casino.” See More on page 9 Southern Inyo County's Winnedumah Winns Casino, in Independence, CA, is also hosting a Halloween Dress Up evening on SEE FALL ON PAGE 10
Fall colors are on display in Wildrose Canyon, off Highway 120 (East), and as the temperatures change, so do autumn leaves. Don't wait too long to see some of California's best fall colors.]
