Bring Spring into Your Yard and Home 2021 By Christina Reed The Hired Pen

Landscapes must be hardier / suitable to your site. And, there are pleasure / enjoyment / maintenance ratios to keep in mind when landscaping.

Eastern Sierra, CA—The vernal equinox, when the Sun crosses the celestial equator, arrives around March 20th each year. We commonly call this time of year, spring. There are two equinoxes in the Northern Hemisphere, vernal and autumnal, and at this time of year the hemispheres face the Sun equally. Our Sun comes up due east and it will set due west. Our seasons occur due to the Earth revolving around the Sun, in a tilted position on its axis, and the Earth's position accounts for the amounts of sunlight we receive.

Our indoor environments can also be renewed, cleaned, and rearranged for upcoming warmer weather. Rugs and windows can be washed / cleaned, repaired, or replaced, and equipment can be rented locally for those do-it-yourselfers. Some home improvement projects can be accomplished very easily with the correct instruction, tools, materials, and patience. Our local hardware stores are accustomed to helping people with all levels of expertise, and if you can't do it yourself, the store staff can help you determine where to go next.

Spring is the time of year to fertilize, prepare beds and do soil improvement, start seeds, and remember to water during the drought. Manor True Value Hardware store, Bishop, CA, offers locals in the neighborhood a splash of spring color. Get those potato patches in order. Manor Market's, Bishop, CA, seed potatoes go on sale in the next couple of weeks.

Spring Things to Keep in Mind To bring a sense of renewal into your yard and home, think about your spaces, and how you might take an inventory of what you have already. Then, take advantage of some of our local resources, spring sales, and professionals who can help you complete upcoming spring / summer projects. 3 Spring cleaning inside and outside means looking locally at our hard ware stores for equipment rentals for do-it-yourselfers. It's a drought year, again. Winds are unpredictable and do damage to trees, shrubs, flowers, gazebos, patios, courtyards, and gardens. Wildfires are always a risk. Pests and varmints are ever present.

Bring the spring sunshine into your home with a weekend of window / screen / shutter cleaning, inside and outside. Check screens for damage, and purchase re-screening materials locally at the hardware stores.

There is a return to built-in shelving, natural woods, and raw stone work in home décor. Window seats with storage and shelves are popular places to showcase your collections, and catch up on your mail. Home libraries with views are becoming the new home retreats, and alcoves / private recesses in a home or garden can add an uncommon architectural feature to the view. Invest some time doing research at the local hard ware stores, or talk with an experienced contractor, in the next few weeks, as we await the last frosts of winter and enter the more vibrant spring months.
