New holiday traditions are being made, and as we all
are asked to make sacrifices again and again, it's easy to become a “Bah Humbug.” However, we can all start enjoying the season of giving, now. We can get our holiday gifts in the mail, now. We can spread our holiday plans and joy out over a longer, quieter period of time, now. We can shop locally and have things delivered, now. And, we can start planning on less lavish holiday gatherings, and make use of what we have, now.

at home these holidays... why not decorate and deck the halls this year?

Downtown Bishop, CA—Did you see Santa on Main Street in Bishop? Sitting out in the sunshine, Santa was greeting travelers and locals alike, encouraging people to wave and honk their horns...it's the first of the Santa sightings in the Owens Valley. And up and down US Highway 395, the small towns and communities of the eastern Sierra will begin to spruce up Main Street with holiday décor. Holiday shoppers were out in numbers on Black Friday (the day after Thanksgiving) and Small Business Saturday (Saturday following Thanksgiving), and downtown merchants from Olancha to Topaz, CA were giving it their all to keep their enterprises going during these difficult times. But, the holiday spirit of things seemed to be on the rise, with many families visiting their town's Main Street merchants. Keeping it local, and staying rooted in their rural hometowns. Tis' the season for giving, and now more than ever, organizations such as the Salvation Army, and church charities need our help with donations of food, toys, clothing, and money cards. The community of Walker, CA, in northern Mono County, was devastated by the Mountain View Fire (November 17, 2020), and the fast-moving flames consumed 25 percent of Walker's homes, and burned
