RESER PRESENTS PERFORMANCES

LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

We want to acknowledge the people on whose land we live—the Atfalati-Kalapuyans, also known as the Tualatin Band of Kalapuyans—as the first inhabitants of Washington County. We are grateful for this Kalapuyan land. Today their descendants are tribal members of Grand Ronde and Siletz tribes, carrying on the traditions and cultures of their ancestors. We acknowledge and express gratitude for the ancestors of this place and recognize that we are here because of the sacrifices forced upon them. In remembering these communities, we honor their legacy, their lives and their presence in our community.

A MESSAGE FROM OUR CHAIR /

Dear Friends,

I hope this message finds you well. I am filled with gratitude and a strong sense of purpose as I step into the role of Chair of the Board for The Reser. Following in the footsteps of Pat Reser is both an honor and, truthfully, a bit humbling. Pat’s unwavering belief in the power of the arts to bring people together gave life to The Reser, shaping it from the start as a place where the arts are celebrated and meaningful connection is made possible. On behalf of the Board, I offer heartfelt thanks to Pat for her extraordinary leadership and warmly welcome her, now and always, as our Chair Emerita.

As we look to the 2025–26 season, I’m struck by the range and sense of possibility in what’s ahead. Whether through the premiere of “York the Explorer,” the celebration of Hip Hop’s legacy or the return of artists and attractions like Pink Martini and Nat Geo Live, this season invites us to engage more deeply with history and culture, while also embracing the magic and delight that only live performance can offer.

During the early days of The Reser’s development, I was part of a team that believed this place could be more than a venue. We imagined it as a civic home, a place that

is not only welcoming, but one that truly belongs to the community it serves. That vision is still becoming real. Creating a space where people feel connected, valued and reflected takes time and shared intention, and it is work we are committed to continuing. In a world that often pulls us apart, places like The Reser bring us back to one another through story, beauty and the brave work of artists who share themselves with us.

There is a magic that happens when we experience live performance, in community. Laughter echoes a little louder. Music resonates more deeply. Stories remind us of what matters most. Sociologists call this “collective effervescence.” I call it a gift.

Thank you for supporting The Reser, for believing in the power of the arts and for choosing to gather together. I’m excited for all this new season holds and look forward to sharing it with you.

All my best,

A MESSAGE FROM OUR EXECUTIVE

DIRECTOR /

The 2025-26 year marks our fourth full season. Since opening, we have welcomed 170,000 people and counting! The warm embrace of The Reser has proven that the community’s dream for an arts center was timely and necessary. After a whirlwind start, our eyes are set now on The Reser becoming indispensable; an essential part of the fabric of life and a source of pride for us all.

Our new season is the most ambitious yet—in the number of events, ideas and scope. We are proud to present the world premiere of a new folk opera by Aaron Nigel Smith called “York the Explorer.” It daylights the story of York, the essential but overlooked Black member of the Lewis and Clark Expedition. Our first season-long thematic exploration premieres this year—Rhythm and Revolution: The Legacy of Hip Hop Culture. Working alongside community leaders and artists such as Alexandra Washington, Andre Middleton, DJ O.G.One and Mic Crenshaw, we will explore this quintessentially American cultural phenomenon. We open the season with multi-Grammy winning velvet-voiced jazz artist Samara Joy. And then, we welcome many returning favorites, including Pink Martini, Lea Salonga, Mark and Maggie O’Connor, Thunderstorm Artis (solo debut) and the Glenn Miller Orchestra.

Sitting in the dark during a performance in our last spring, I was reminded of why we do this work. In a house filled with people hanging on Yasmin Williams’ every word and note, it struck me: our support of artists—on stage, in our gallery and in our community—is an act of love. Making space for art and artists, inviting people in. That’s what we do. It’s not about schedules or logistics. It’s about love and a deep belief that art matters. The people who make art matter, and the people who engage with it matter. The love flows both ways. Artists of all backgrounds offer something real and vulnerable. Audiences give their love by being present, listening, responding. It’s a pure and powerful exchange. That’s the power of the arts. Not just brilliance, virtuosity or beauty—but connection.

Thank you for participating. It means the world to us.

OUR SPONSORS /

Sponsors play a key role in our mission by underwriting costs, financially supporting programs, helping us reach new audiences, securing gallery exhibits and much more. We are grateful to these partners who believe in the transformative power of the arts and are helping us bring an eclectic mix of bold artistry to The Reser stage this year.

Death is not the end; it’s just the beginning. So goes the central thought of Hasta la Muerte, the new program from Las Cafeteras, whose “urgent, relevant music” (BBC) takes in influences from the worlds of punk, hiphop, beat music, cumbia and rock. Across two acts, the LA group follows the journey of La Catrina (patron saint of the dead), who encounters folkloric Mexican characters like La Llorona and La Bruja as well as modern-day migrants and families in despair. Through mesmerizing choreography and a mix of original and traditional songs, Hasta La Muerte is a moving invitation to travel through time, rhythm and memory—and a reminder that when we celebrate life, we celebrate love.

BLACK MATTER

SEP 05, 2025 — NOV 07, 2025

“BLACK MATTER, ” a traveling exhibition, centers the voices of eight Black artists in Oregon, offering space for honest, expansive expression beyond imposed narratives of trauma or resistance. Challenging the expectation that Black art must always be political, Intisar Abioto, Amirah Chatman, Jeremy Okai Davis, Sadé Duboise, Santigie and Sapata Fofana-Dura, Jason Graham (MO WO) and Master Artist Michael Bernard Stevenson Jr. celebrate the fullness of Black humanity, imagination and creativity in an evolving collection of contemporary work. “BLACK MATTER” offers a platform where Black artists are not asked to perform their pain or define their identity solely in terms of oppression, but rather to speak, make and dream on their terms.
