We acknowledge the people on whose land we live—the Atfalati-Kalapuyans, also known as the Tualatin Band of Kalapuyans—as the first inhabitants of Washington County. We are grateful for this Kalapuyan land. Today, their descendants are tribal members of Grand Ronde and Siletz tribes, carrying on the traditions and cultures of their ancestors. We acknowledge and express gratitude for the ancestors of this place and recognize that we are here because of the sacrifices forced upon them. In remembering these communities, we honor their legacy, their lives, and their presence in our community.

As I reflect on the success of The Reser’s inaugural season, I recall a feeling I’ve had each time I attended a performance: an overwhelming sense of community and belonging. I’ve long believed that the arts bring people together in joy and celebration, and that they erase boundaries and increase understanding among historically disparate groups.
To me, the most important element of community is people. So, in my mind, a community is a group of people who share something in common. Even when an audience at The Reser is more closely aligned with a particular artist than I am, I still feel a kinship with them, a sense of inclusion and belonging as we enjoy a performance together in this intimate space.
I’m beginning to recognize the regular Reser-goers, smiling at the increasingly familiar faces and exchanging pleasantries. If you haven’t experienced that yet, I encourage you to initiate such an exchange at your next performance. Recently, in a spontaneous chat with an attendee—a retired engineer—he shared that he was instrumental in Beaverton’s designation as the West Side transit stop for the MAX Blue Line. I was thrilled to meet him and thanked him for his foresight. That decision,
made over three decades ago, was crucial to our ability to build The Reser in this current location. He understood the potential our community held.
Each of us has a community that provides us with a sense of belonging: those where we work, worship, and play; our family and friends, whether near or far. I believe The Reser provides a new and diverse community that brings us together through the arts. This community helps us feel differently, see the world differently, and reflect on who we are: our hopes and dreams, our trials, and where we’re heading. The Puff sculpture in the lobby so eloquently portrays that sentiment through its collection of “rearview mirrors.”
I close with Cicero’s beloved quote:
“We were born to unite with our fellow [human beings] and to join in community with the human race.”

I look forward to joining you in community at The Reser for our 2023-24 Season, a season with visual art, music, theatre, film, and spoken word; rich with folk, family, classical, pop, and holiday offerings.
Signed, Pat Reser Board Chair

“I’ve long believed that the arts bring people together in joy and celebration, and that they erase boundaries and increase understanding among historically disparate groups.”
Dear Friends,
Welcome to The Reser Presents 2023-24 Season! With it, we’re building on the success of our inaugural season, and our identity as your premiere destination for the very best performing artists from around the world—right here on the West Side. This season we will feature an amazing array of women from across the globe, the Northwest premiere of a family musical about the Underground Railroad, vibrant artists from throughout Latin America, and so much more—both on our stage and in our exhibition spaces. The season is like a beautiful tapestry, and our team has spent months weaving it for you. The threads and colors are designed to complement one another, and to offer new perspectives and insights when juxtaposed. This season reminds us that as wonderfully different as we may be, the arts hold a special power to bring us together as one.
If, by exploring this brochure, you are discovering The Reser for the first time, welcome. By joining us, you are joining a community of kind, generous, and open-minded people who, like us, are captivated by the power of the arts. Whether you attend alone, or with a friend or loved one, you are unconditionally welcome at The Reser. From our volunteer ushers who greet you at the door, to our box office staff and stage crew, we are a team

Thank you to all our members and sponsors. A special thank you to our first-ever season sponsor, Tim and Mary Boyle, The Reser Family Foundation, and the City of Beaverton for their unwavering support. As a nonprofit arts presenter, we simply could not make this scope and variety of programming accessible to our region without your support.
I get excited every time I walk in to The Reser. I see opportunity and possibility. I see a community that can dream big and do hard things. I see how every day we can work together to become our best selves. But the possibilities cannot become a reality without each of you. Your presence and support inspire us— and the artists—and bring our mission full circle.
I look forward to greeting you personally at The Reser.
With gratitude,

Thanks to the support, encouragement, and advocacy of our partners, The Reser is proudly living its mission to foster community and build meaningful connections around this stunning facility—and the breathtaking performances that bring it to life.

“Through the telling and hearing of stories, we can understand and perhaps even appreciate the similarities in who we are,” says Kevin Jones. “We don’t have to like or even agree with what we hear, but through our common humanity we will build the world we want to live in and that begins with listening.”

Stagings/Escenarios, an exhibition of dynamic and expansive paintings by Jorge Tacla, depicts landscapes of cultural significance and the remnants of sites leveled by uprising and warfare. Communicating the complex narratives these places represent, the paintings comment on contemporary events with an emphasis on the aftermath and memory of catastrophes. Informed by abuses of power and the resulting destruction, Tacla’s paintings portray images of haunting ruins and layered, architectural elements with reference to the bodily presence of the victims he documents.
