5. In the event when, due to the nature of the road accident (bus roll-over, fire in the cabin, etc.), it is not possible to open the doors or evacuation through the doors does not ensure rescue of all passengers, a bus driver: •
shall instruct passengers to open hatches, get special hammers from window braces, use them to break glass and leave the passenger compartment through hatches and window openings, providing each other with all kinds of assistance;
• if the bus is not equipped with special hammers, the bus driver shall provide the passengers with any available means for breaking the window glass in the passenger compartment (hammers, bars, wrenches, etc.); • shall personally participate in evacuation of passengers from the bus; •
on completion of evacuation of passengers, the driver shall organize provision of first aid to the injured and calling an ambulance or delivering them to the nearest medical institution, using for this purpose all vehicles available at the place of the incident and passing by.
Action Plan in Case of Fire
1. Immediately stop the bus, brake the vehicle. 2. Open all doors and drop off passengers. 3. Shut off the bus engine, turn off all main and auxiliary electrical circuits 4. Start to extinguish fire with a fire extinguisher 5. Inform the dispatcher about the accident and the condition of the bus. 6. If necessary, urgently call the fire brigade and technical assistance. 7. Drivers of other buses following the route are obliged to provide assistance in fighting the fire. 8. When the fire is put out and it is verified that the fire is completely stopped / there is no smoke and smoldering/ the bus should be sent to the depot (on its own or by tow).
