millwaterRomeos In November, the Millwater ROMEOs (Retired Old Men Eating Out) ventured north to ‘The Range Warkworth,’ which, as the name suggests, is about 2km south of Warkworth on SH1. It offers a range of activities including an air rifle range, a golf driving range, 9-hole mini golf, baseball and softball auto pitcher as well as cricket nets with auto bowler. After being shown around the activities on offer, we all made our choices. The mini golf was popular. It included a couple of quite difficult holes which could easily blow out your score if you were not very accurate with your putting. 22 was the lowest score achieved for 9 holes, shared by two members, and a couple of members got holes in one. The air rifle range was also popular, but some found aiming with old eyes quite tricky. All of the other activities were used by members except for the cricket which requires a bit more time, not to mention expertise. The hour we spent there was most enjoyable and is recommended

as a fun family or friends’ activity, only 20 minutes north of Millwater. The cost for each activity is also quite reasonable or a combo can be purchased which is more economical. After our (slight) exertions we headed back to the Orewa Surf Club for lunch. The view of the beach couldn’t be closer. The menu included a range of choices that kept everyone happy, including spare ribs for the more adventurous. The service was friendly and efficient and we almost had the entire upstairs floor to ourselves for lively discussions and banter. After lunch, most members went back to the organiser’s home for coffee and cake plus further discussions about all manner of topics. This was a very pleasant way to spend a day in convivial company and, for some, trying out new activities that can be revisited in future.
