When you think of colour, think about how it makes you feel and where it directs your attention.

Understanding how colour responds or performs can be very helpful!

•Darker colours are more dominant than Light colours •Bright colours are more dominant than Light colours •Bright colours are more dominant than Muted colours •Warm colours are more dominant than Cool colours •Bright colours are more dominant than Dark colours •Bright warm colours are more dominant than Bright Cool Colours Putting your outfit together, think about where you would like to draw the attention and use these tips to your advantage.

For example, pairing a pair of dark blue jeans with a bright orange top, the focal point will be on the bright orange top. Or, pair cream pants with a dark green jacket, the dark green jacket will be what is seen first and will be more dominant than the pants.

What else can colour be used for?

Colour is a wonderful illusion. You can use colour to make a colour appear cooler or appear warmer, duller or brighter.

•A complementary colour arrangement, opposite colours on the colour wheel, will create a bright colour combination, even if the colours are muted •A light and dark colour grouping can make the darker colour appear darker •Colour blocking can make you appear shorter •Monochromatic shades of one colour, can make you appear taller •Light colours reflect light which can make you appear heavier •Top to bottom medium and light colours or bright coloured at the top can make you appear taller

There is always an occasion for colour, so use it! Let it do your talking without you having to say a word.
