Coast & Coastal Kinesiology Team Up to Host
Inaugural International Women’s Day Event
International Women’s Day is celebrated on 8th March each year is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. This year ’ s them is ‘embracing equality’.
This year we have teamed up with Katie Crews of Coastal Kinesiology to bring an inaugural event to the coast to celebrate the achievements of women in business on the coast. We recognised that there was a gap for recognition those who are in small business, often working away quietly in the background.
The event is being held on Saturday 11th March at Stir and Stitch and is an opportunity for local women to come together to celebrate the success and contributions made to the community and in business.
The afternoon will be an opportunity for women to gather in support and recognition for their contributions towards making our community a better place. Working together Shanelle and Katie decided that they wanted
05
the community to celebrate the achievements of women who are usually working away in the background and not necessarily receiving the acknowledgement that they deserve. “Working in small business can often times be a lonely venture with many efforts, trials and tribulations going unnoticed and unrewarded, we just wanted an opportunity to come together in a beautiful setting and show our appreciation” Shanelle said
We are looking forward to a relaxed afternoon of women from many walks of life coming together in celebration of one and other, regardless if they are nominated for something or not
There are a limited number of tickets still available. Ticket sales will close Friday 3rd March at 5pm, get in quick so that you don't miss out!

There's a Seat at the T@ble for Local Business Owners
If you ’ re an introvert like me, hearing the words ‘networking event’ can be enough for you to instantly break out into a cold sweat and into a spiral of panic! Earlier this month, the planets aligned with time, and I plucked up the courage to finally attend one of @Real Estate’s monthly networking events which was held at the James StreetBusinessPlaza
Upon arriving, I was warmly welcomed by host NatalieGesslerandgreetedlikealonglostfriend. My nerves and fears around going along to a networking event on my own were almost instantlyputatbay Anice-breakeractivitywhich had us playing charades to introduce our businesses to each other was a real hoot and definitelyputeveryoneatease.
During the evening we also heard from Craig Gibbs from the Capricornia Chamber of Commerce and how the chamber is currently seeking feedback from local businesses to help develop a strategy for the next 10 years. The is a breakfast event being hosted at the Yeppoon RSL Club on Wednesday 15th March which will help local businesses to kick their business goals in 2023 More details can be found in the event section
Throughout the evening I had the opportunity to chat with some of our local small business owners and learn more about what they are doing It had been so long since I had attended a networking event that I had forgotten how important these events can be to building relationships and the potential of collaboration that they can bring.
To find out when the next The T@ble event is, head to the Facebook group which is part of the community network that Natalie and Troy have built You can also connect with other business owners and access invaluable resources too!

What is a Doula?
The word “doula” comes from ancient Greek, meaning “ a woman who serves ” Today, “doula” refers to a professional trained to provide emotional, physical and educational support to women throughout their pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period.
The role of a doula is an ancient one. Years ago, when women exclusively gave birth at home in the care of midwives, women had their female family members to support and guide them But with the modern development of obstetricians and hospital births in the last century or so, women became estranged from the birth process, and family members lost the knowledge and confidence to guide a birthing woman.
Doulas differ from midwives A midwife is a medical professional who can provide the same type of care as an obstetrician in the course of a low risk pregnancy and labour. During labour and birth, medical care is still in the hands of the midwife or doctor, and the doula is an addition to the birth team rather than a replacement.
Midwives rarely remain in the birth suite throughout the labour, as they have other duties and are often taking care of more than one labouring woman at a time. They also work shifts so over the course of labour, several different professionals are likely to be involved in each woman ’ s care.
Enter the birth doula, who guides and supports women and their partners continuously through labour and birth. The doula draws on her knowledge and experience as she reassures, comforts, and empathizes with the labouring woman. The doula also supports the partner by guiding and assisting them on how to help, suggesting when to use particular positions, the bath or shower and specific comfort measures They are also able to navigate medical language for the couple and be an advocate.
Although a doula cannot guarantee a normal, natural, or easy labour, statistics show that having a doula results in less need for major interventions

Hypnotherapy for Chronic Pain
Candice Fraser The Kindness Couch
When you first think of hypnotherapy you might picture images of a person clucking like a chicken on stage or eating an onion like an apple Fortunately for you, real hypnotherapy is completely safe, and you are actually in complete control the whole time.
So how does hypnotherapy help manage pain you ask?
Hypnotherapy makes use of how our thoughts and feelings can influence our physical and mental health by instilling helpful and healthy suggestions into your subconscious.
For a long time, hypnotherapy was used to treat chronic pain by decreasing the intensity of the pain only. Fortunately, over the past 10 years with growing research we now know that hypnotherapy for chronic pain can:
· decrease information allowed to travel into the spinal cord.
· reduce how much the pain bothers you.
· reduce pain intensity
change thoughts you have about pain
improve your lifestyle coping skills
Each person responds differently and the research shows that for hypnotherapy to be effective for chronic pain generally 4 to 10 sessions are required
Chronic pain is not fun and can impact all areas of life. There are many complimentary therapies, including hypnotherapy, that can support people suffering with chronic pain

The Foragers Corner
Hello fellow wild food foragers, my name is Kimberly and I am the owner of Silver Sage Cottage. I study edible plants in our local area for basic survival and fun. It’s surprising the amount of wild food, medicine and useful plant resources that are available to us in nature. I will be showcasing one, safe, easy to identify, wild edible plant each month. I will provide a photo, a common name, a botanical name, some basic information about the plant and a recipe to try. I forage and eat the plants showcased and know them to be safe, however I encourage you to do your own research and ensure that you have the correct plant before eating it.
Disclaimer: I am not responsible for what you ingest, you are wholly responsible for your own safety. If you are unsure, please feel free to contact me for help with identification at Silver Sage Cottage 0498076683.

Also known as Pig Face, this hardy beach dune succulent is literally a life saver; be it a fun day out with the family or in a survival situation

Leaf juices in water as a throat gargle
Leaf juice and Banksia ash calamine lotion
Fruit (raw) used as a natural laxative (so don’t eat too many)
21
RECIPE: PIG FACE JAM
2 cups Pig Face leaf pulp
1 cup sugar
3 cups water
Put water in saucepan and bring to a boil
Add sugar and Pig Face pulp.
Stir until mixture thickens and bubbles appear. Strain and pour into a clean jar. Set in fridge
Happy wild food foraging my friends.
Stay safe!

The Three Basic Truths about Parenting
1. If you are happy, your child is probably happy.
Preston Dunstan Baby Language Australia
Have you ever noticed that when you are having a bad day – when the dog chews your new shoes, or it’s suddenly started to rain and you have almost dry clothes on the line or, you didn’t sleep well last night, and there’s no milk for your morning coffee – that this is the day your child seems to be really difficult – whinging a lot, accidentally spilling his drink, and crying because the puzzle piece won’t fit. Have you seen that correlation? It happens in the reverse too – when you ’ ve slept well, and the sun is shining and you managed to drink ½ a cup of hot coffee before you got distracted – that on these days, your children play happily with each other, they are more cuddly, and they use ‘please’ and ‘thank you ’ more often – have you noticed that?
What this tells us is that mothers are pivotal in setting the tone for the day Children – even very young onesare sensitive to the moods of those around them. They notice that you are different, whether stressed, or sad, or angry. Often they are too young to understand why this might be, but they still sense it, and as a result, are influenced by it.
This is why I am passionate (and I mention this a lot) about mothers making self-care a priority. Dads are absolutely important too The reality is that it is often mothers who are at home with the children, and hence this is directed at them Look after yourself, take time out to have coffee with a girlfriend, get out in the sunshine, have a bubble bath – do something nice for you on a regular basis The benefits to you and your sense of well-being is huge… and of course there’s that ripple effect for your children!
2. You can’t do everything - Superwoman does not exist. I remember when I had my first baby, …… I had left teaching where I had 30 x 6 - 7 year olds in my care daily. I could organise them to be polite, to do what I set them, to enthuse them to learning, to get them to cooperate…. I did this daily, and I did it well. Then my baby arrived, and it wasn’t so easy…. She cried, and at times it didn’t matter what I did, she still cried I was soooo tired in those early weeks When she was asleep I’d rush around attempting to do the house cleaning, washing, ironing, cooking dinner, and trying to look ‘nice’ as well But, rarely did I achieve that in the first weeks I had to quickly learn that it wasn’t possible to do all of that, and have a happy mum and baby. I let go of my Superwoman imagery and got real, and as a result, I smiled more!
Sonja

3. Striving to be the ‘perfect mother’ raising the ‘perfect children’ is a recipe for disaster.
I can guarantee you, that if you aim for this level of perfection, you will fail nearly every day. Things happen – we growl, we look annoyed, we ignore our child because we ’ re engrossed in reading a magazine article etc – all things which a ‘perfect mother/ father’ would never do. Can we please get real here We are humans and we ’ ve all made mistakes at times, or not acted in the best way. If we expect perfection from ourselves and our children, then that’s not realistic!
Let’s instead accept good parenting as our goal, or even great parenting – where we do the best we can every day, and we learn from that as to what works well and what doesn’t –this will lead to success, and smiles!
You are good enough! – believe it, live it, breathe it… AND model that to your child. Happy Parenting!

Choosing the Perfect Ceremony Venue
One of the benefits of having a Civil Celebrant officiate at your wedding is the freedom this gives you to choose where your marriage will take place. If you follow my social media at all, you may have noticed I get to travel to some stunning places throughout our beautiful region Some of them aren’t easy to get to, there’s bumpy roads, rough seas, a bit of huffing, puffing and lugging of gear but the results are always beautiful memories to be treasured forever. Weddings happen on beaches, hill tops, sand dunes, creek banks, under trees on farms, on islands, on boats, in restaurants, chapels, golf courses, home gardens - you can literally get married anywhere you choose…… so HOW do you choose?
You’ll want to work out what your most important criteria are Maybe there’s a spot that is special to you or the family, maybe there is a particular view you want in your “kiss’ photo, maybe you want to provide your guests with a beautiful and unique memory. Perhaps you need somewhere that gives easy access for older guests or is accessible by the vintage car you dream of arriving in or is walking distance to your reception venue
You’ll need to think about shade, nearby facilities, safety of young children, and how public or private you want your ceremony to be.
25
Leanne SmithCivil Celebrant
Consider how many guests you will invite, will it be easy for them to get to the venue, how complex your ceremony décor set up will be, who will you be relying on to achieve the venue set up for you and how long they will have to achieve it all. Is there access to power, is there access for vehicles and enough parking?
If you find these considerations all a bit overwhelming you could consider making the same choice as one of my couples, they got married sitting around their dining room table, after inviting their neighbours in for coffee (and then telling them they were to be the witnesses!)
A video camera was set up to record the special occasion, as they knew no one would believe them without the evidence!
Remember, the choices are yours to make If you have questions don’t hesitate to reach out, any time

Moon Musings March
Your monthly guide to what's happening in the astrological world
March 7th brings the Full Moon in the earth sign of Virgo at 11:40pm
With the Sun in Pisces this full moon lands in it’s opposing sign of Virgo
The full moon is the time to let go, to release that which no longer serves us and anything that hasn’t come to fruition during this lunar cycle.
Virgo speaks to our health, our daily habits and processes, how we show up each day So what do your daily habits look like?
Are they setting you up for the day?
Do they serve you or the version of you that you wish to become?
The Sun in Pisces illuminates our connection to spirituality (whatever that looks like for you) the collective energy of the world and the bigger picture of our lives These two energies are about connecting these elements together, how can we support our physical, mental and emotional wellbeing with our daily habits?
What are you doing each day that fuels your body?
All that is unhealthy is washed away
This is also a great time to plan your next move. Organise your morning routine, or
create one if need be
By Heidi Reeves Rising Sol Astrology
Virgo is here to correct our path and help guide us to a better future.
March 22nd brings the New Moon in the fire sign of Aries at 4:23am
As we enter the season of Aries we welcome it Wirth the Aries New Moon. As the first sign of the zodiac, this New moon is all about the self, YOU, our ego and how we see ourselves in the world
Aries takes action! They are the pioneer of the zodiac and bring the fiery energy to ignite action, to support us to start that new project and really get things in motion!
Aries gives us the confidence to speak up, to be bold and fearless
What have you been holding back on?
Where in your life could you use a boost of confidence?
Aries is here to support you now.
Mind your manners during this time though as all that fire can sometimes mean we act on impulsive (which can be useful) but be careful not to react to harshly when compassion is needed
Time to set your intentions for the next lunar cycle, think about what drives you, where your passion lies and take action towards your dreams!
27
A space were you are accepted just the way you are and you can feel loved for being you. A beautiful invitation to stop focusing on all the to dos and people you needed to support and just support YOU.
Nutrition to Support Stress & Mental Wellbeing
In the fast-paced society that we live in, it's easy to see why so many people are feeling stressed, overwhelmed, and run down From work or study deadlines to looking after the family, financial pressures to social media, and everything in between, no wonder we need a holiday!
Support for stress and mental wellbeing ties in with self-care practices. Self-care isn't just about getting your nails done or getting a massage, it's also about focusing on quality nutrition, getting enough sleep, managing stress, looking after your mental health, moving your body, maintaining social relationships, and more Today, let's focus on nutrition!
Nutrition plays an important role in reducing the long-term effects of stress and anxiety. A healthy balanced diet can help maintain normal levels of stress hormones and support mental wellbeing
Foods to incorporate to support stress and your mental wellbeing :
A wide variety of vegetables and fruits (spinach, leafy greens, broccoli, bananas, berries, beetroots, asparagus, lemons, cauliflower, tomatoes, and everything in between!)
Healthy fats (walnuts, pumpkin seeds, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, oily fish, avocado, extra virgin olive oil)
Good quality protein (plant or animal based such as fish, turkey, lean beef, tofu, tempeh, legumes, beans, lentils, chicken, dairy products, etc.)
Complex carbohydrates (oats, sweet potato, brown rice, quinoa, peas, beans, wholegrains).
Quality filtered water (minimum 2L per day)
By Caitlin Buttenshaw Catilin Jane Naturopath
29
Foods to reduce:
Processed or sugary foods (cakes, biscuits, chocolate, ice cream, baked goods, white breads, soft drinks)
Foods high in saturated or trans fats (bakery treats, deep fried foods, chips, processed meats, vegetable oils)
Alcohol
Excess caffeine (including coffee, black tea, energy drinks, etc )
Stress can also deplete certain vitamins and minerals, so it's important to try top up those stores where you can;
Vitamin C - tomatoes, citrus fruits, berries, broccoli, cauliflower, brussels sprouts
B vitamins - whole grains, dark leafy greens, legumes, nuts, seeds, and animal products
Magnesium - dark chocolate, cacao, dark leafy greens, legumes, avocado, whole grains such as quinoa
Zinc - pepitas, sunflower seeds, eggs, nuts, shellfish
Omega-3 - mackerel, salmon, trout, sardines, walnuts, hemp seeds, flax seeds
Nutrition can be overwhelming, but just start with what you can manage and go from there Small, manageable changes are the key to success and overall health and wellbeing!
