Welcome to the June Edition of The Hub Capricorn Coast – our 12th edition as a digital magazine! The year has flown by! And already we are almost halfway through 2023
This month you will notice the magazine is a little lighter than usual Unfortunately, I couldn’t secure the interviews I wanted to due to time constraints and other pressing life commitments. With too many balls in the air, sadly the one I had to drop was The Hub Capricorn Coast However, we have some fantastic contributions and columns from some of our regular contributors, so be sure to check them out
As a community we are eagerly awaiting the 24th & 25th of June for the first Synergy Rising Festival being held at Forest Fields at Byfield which will bring together the four elements and directions in what’s set to be an outstanding healing festival. You can read more about this in the coming pages.
In May I completed the I-Activate Social Enterprise course through the Central Queensland University with the first CQ cohort. The course concluded with a showcase evening at CQU for participants to pitch their idea in 3 minutes or less. I look forward to watching some of these fantastic social enterprises come to life over the coming months and years!
Study has kept life busy and interesting as I have been completing a Small Business and Entrepreneurship Course which has helped to cement my passion for taking The Hub Capricorn Coast to the next level. The course concludes mid-June, so there will be more time to get back to being out in the community and connecting
Moving forward, The Hub Capricorn Coast will be one of my main focuses instead of a hobby that I do while fitting everything else in life in. I can’t wait to be able to bring some more of my ideas to life and showcase more of what we have available to us in our local community in a high-quality publication.
In July, we’ll be celebrating the first anniversary of our relaunch and there will be a few exciting changes and announcements to come!
An important lesson that I’ve learned this past month, is that we cannot do all of the things all of the time without something suffering. Sometimes we have to make the choice of disappointing ourselves or letting others down. And while that may be a difficult choice to make at the end of the day, without ourselves we cannot be anything to others
Wishing you an amazing month ahead for June and I look forward to checking in with you next month to celebrate our first anniversary
The energy is ramping up and preparations are well under way for the Synergy Rising Festival being held over two days at Forest Fields in Byfield this month on the 24th and 25th June. With limited tickets available, it is recommended that you secure yours sooner rather than later. Tickets are available from the website www synergyrising com au
Organiser Catherine Mason and her team have been busy behind the scenes for several months now bringing all of the elements together for what is set to be a wonderful day of celebration of the winter solstice The first of its kind in the area, it’s set to be a memorable day for all
The program has been created around four elemental and directional healing hubs: Explorative (NorthFire), Information (East – Air), Restorative (South – Earth) and Creative (West Water) Each offering workshops from dawn until dusk with daily ceremonies and sharing circles at the heart of the medicine wheel
There are so many fantastic locals who are presenting classes and workshops over the course of the two days, it will be a difficult choice to pick what to do!
Be sure to check out the program and secure your tickets as this is one festival that you won’t want to miss!
Have you ever wondered what makes you more or less motivated to do something or make a start on a project? Keep reading to find out more .....
Intrinsic motivation refers to the act of engaging in an activity for the sheer enjoyment and personal satisfaction it brings, rather than being driven by external rewards, obligations, or deadlines.
In simpler terms, individuals who are intrinsically motivated pursue activities for the pure pleasure they derive from them, such as the fun and excitement they experience or the challenges they encounter. Their motivation stems from internal factors rather than external consequences.
Intrinsic motivation can be categorized into three distinct aspects:
1. Autonomy: This pertains to our inclination to participate in activities that we personally choose and find meaningful. For instance, playing a sport for the sheer enjoyment and fun of it, rather than solely aiming to win an award.
2.Mastery: This aspect involves being motivated to improve and excel in areas that hold significance to us. For example, learning a new language out of personal interest and the desire to embrace different cultures, rather than it being a mandatory requirement for employment.
3 Purpose: Motivation derived from contributing to a cause or something larger than oneself This can be observed through volunteering efforts, such as dedicating time to a charity or joining a state emergency service organization
The fulfillment and contentment that comes from helping others drive this intrinsic motivation.
In summary, intrinsic motivation serves as a catalyst for increased productivity, engagement, and overall happiness. It is driven by genuine desire and enjoyment, rather than external pressures or obligations.
Intrinsic motivation empowers individuals to pursue activities out of personal choice and passion, ultimately leading to a more fulfilling and satisfying experience.

Have you ever wondered why we do/think/feel certain things that stop us living a full, meaningful and happy life?
Candice Fraser The Kindness CouchSelf-sabotage, victim mentality, avoid things that are healthy for us….. We all do these things occasionally. But when we get stuck repeating these behaviours they impact our life, negatively. A possible cause – Trauma - and it lives in the body and subconscious mind.
When we are experiencing a stressful/traumatic event, we instinctively repress parts of it into our subconscious mind for reasons of pure survival
But the problem with repressing things is they can go on to controls our current behaviours and thought patterns, without us knowing why.
Others tend to normalise their trauma assuming because it happened to them it happens to others, so it must be normal, therefore it’s okay. But it’s not.
People who love us, and we love, can unintentionally cause trauma, leaving us feel too guilty to resolve what’s within.
Most people experience traumatic periods or events, some carry the trauma with them, others don’t.
If you notice your thoughts/actions/feelings get in the way of leading a full and happy life, it might be helpful to spend some time gently reflecting on your life, how you want it to be and what’s getting in the way If you get stuck, therapy can help
Your monthly guide to what's happening in the astrological world
As the sun entered the Air sign of Gemini on the 21st May we shifted gears from the earthly connection of Taurus to the more social, mental activity of Gemini
This means that our first Lunar cycle of June will bring the full moon into gemini’s opposing sign of Sagittarius at 1:42 AEST on the 4th June
The fire sign of Sagittarius is known as the truth seeker. Represented by the archer, Sagittarius shoots their arrow out towards their dreams and follows the path of adventure along the way This Full moon encourages us to expand Expand our knowledge, our self awareness, our joy and understanding of others.
Sagittarius is known as an optimistic sign, tending to look at the lighter side of life and find the joy in the mundane Sagittarius also represents spirituality and philosophy so it is important to keep an open mind during this lunation
As a fire sign the energy is big and bold and can cause us to react on impulse rather than taking a breath to think things through.
By Heidi Reeves Rising Sol AstrologyThis full moon also creates a T-Square aspect to Saturn, bringing in some lessons this cycle
Saturn in pisces is asking us to grow and deepen our connection with ourselves and that which lays beyond the veil.
This is a time to release that self doubt and any clouded thoughts to truly expand and embrace the truth of who you are, who you want to be and the joy that can come from this level of understanding
Look to the house that is ruled by Sagittarius in your chart to see what area of your life may be highlighted during this full moon.
Those with mutable sun, moon and rising signs will feel this one deeply Sagittarius, Gemini, Virgo and Pisces Also those with strong 3rd and 9th house placements.
Sunday the 18th June at 2:37pm AEST see ’ s us welcome the New Moon in our air sign of Gemini
Planting seeds of intention is our focus on the new moon and Gemini rules the mind so very important to pay attention to our thoughts at this time
Are you speaking to yourself with kindness?
Are you overthinking situations?
How mindful are you being in your daily life?
Gemini is represented by the twins in the zodiac, this polarity brings an energy of adaptability and flow to our life
Gemini gives us permission to change, to learn and evolve. Things don’t have to stay the same, YOU don’t have to stay the same.
Gemini’s ruling planet “Mercury” is also residing in Gemini at the moment so this will bring even more focus to our thought patterns and how we communicate. Be wise with your choice of words during this time as our thoughts create our feeling and our feelings become our reality.
Neptune will also have some influence over this new moon as it makes a square to the sun and Moon from its ruling sign, Pisces. This may cloud our thoughts a little and add some self doubt to our beliefs
Be sure to up level your self care practice to help with this, journaling may also be wise so you can review the thought patterns and pick up on what is not serving you.
Mutable signs of Virgo, Gemini, Sagittarius and Pisces will be most impacted by this New Moon Along with those who have strong 3rd house energy
Everyone knows if you want a strong and stable home, you build on good and solid foundations Our health is the same, your foundation is created by several pillars. You must address all the pillars in order to have a strong and even foundation.
Lets look at the Pillars of Health and Happiness
Your body is the vehicle of the soul, the most human part of you. It is solid dense matter that responds to your environment. As we age the body changes, but change is only excessive when subjected to high amounts of stress Women and Men age very differently as women ’ s bodies generally endure a lot more physical stress due to pregnancy, childbirth and breastfeeding.
The physical body needs movement. The better-quality muscle you have in the body the better you will age and the healthier you will be. The more sedentary you are the more your body becomes stagnant, more prone to pain, illness and disease
Keys to building a strong physical body:
·Move, exercise. Weight bearing activities that promote muscle growth. Walking, yoga and resistance exercises.
·Breathwork. Breathing literally shifts stress from the body.
·Bodywork Massage, acupuncture, chiropractic etc all help to keep the body aligned and stress free.
Food is medicine. You are what you eat. It really is that simple. Anything you inject, ingest, inhale or apply to your skin impacts your body
Keys to building good Nutrition:
·Eat whole foods.
Listen to your body, how does it feel after a meal.
·Pay attention to what you think or feel before you eat food that doesn’t feel good in your body Movement is a far greater way to deal with stress than eating or drinking
·Supplement where you can’t get adequate nutrition.
Pillar Three – Mental Health:
Mental health is based on what think and believe
Every thought you are having is creating your reality
What you believe to be true will show up in the world. If you believe you are worthless, you will find it very hard to create stability in your life
Keys to building better Mental Health:
·Start to listen to your thoughts.
·Start to question your belief and thoughts about yourself and the world.
·Ask yourself often if what you are thinking is helping or hindering you.
·Look at what you are consuming from social media, television and movies. How does it make you feel?
·Practice Mindfulness
Pillar Four – Emotional Health:
Life is emotional. There is not a minute of each day you are not feeling something. We tend to avoid the big feelings because we hold a lot of judgement around them. Feelings that are not released stay in the body causing imbalances and illness.
Keys to building Emotional Stability:
·Listen to your feelings and give them room.
·Meditation helps soothe big emotions
·Get support with the big feelings, talking them through can help a lot.
·Don’t judge yourself for having negative emotions such as anger, jealousy or shame. They are important messengers that can help with your growth.
Pillar Five – Spiritual Wellbeing:
I believe there is nothing that is not spiritual. We are all part of a large eco system. Regardless of what your religious beliefs are, it is all the understanding something greater is supporting us. Keys to understanding your own Spirituality:
·Practice Stillness in Nature
·Walk outside in bare feet to feel connected to the earth
Connect with like-minded people
Explore your beliefs and higher self with research, meditation and deeply heart opening experiences
There is always an invitation to look at our foundations and make changes As we age, things change and our health will fluctuate Coming back to the pillars and reassessing what is working and what is not is a great way to create a pathway to a better foundation
What does it mean to process your birth and why is it important to do so?
If you have ever given birth, you understand all the powerful emotions surrounding your birth experience!
You may have had a very peaceful and beautiful birth experience, or you may be feeling disappointed or even traumatised by the events surrounding your labour and birth. Either way, it may be very beneficial for you to take the time to process your birth.
In this article let’s take the time to normalise the emotions surrounding childbirth and postpartum, and discuss why it’s important to process your birth and give you some ideas for doing so
Having a baby is one of the most powerful experiences in a woman ’ s life. No matter what type of birth you have had, you will never forget it! You have just brought another human being into the world! There are so many emotions surrounding this experience
While it is certainly important to take childbirth education classes, educate yourself and your partner, build your village, hire a doula perhaps, and prepare your birth preferences for your upcoming birth, many births simply do not go as planned or expected.
and afterwards may be surprising and confusing
If you have had a difficult labour and delivery, you may be feeling lots of negative emotions. Many women struggle with disappointment, regret, resentment, anger, guilt, or shame when a birth doesn’t go as planned There are also women who feel violated or traumatised by a particularly difficult birth
Even women who claim to have had positive
birth experiences, are often surprised by the negative and confusing emotions they may feel postpartum. In spite of the extreme joy they may feel, many women also struggle with feelings of failure, grief or sadness. These confusing and conflicting emotions are totally normal Most postpartum emotions known as baby blues, are caused by fatigue and hormone
changes. However, in many cases, it is more than simply “hormonal”. Once your new baby is born, you are quickly thrust into motherhood In addition, you become completely consumed by your new role as mother Most new mothers don’t have time to process the birth and many don’t even take the time to think about what just happened! A new mum needs to adjust to her new identity as a mother. Becoming a mother is a HUGE transition! Although this may not be a big issue for every new mother, many women find the adjustment period to be emotionally challenging When you process your labour and birth experiences, make sure that you take some time to reflect on how your life has changed.
It’s okay to mourn the loss of your independence, previous lifestyle or career, if that’s how you are feeling! Don’t try to dig up feelings that are not there, but recognise, validate and process those that begin to surface. It’s okay to mourn the loss of your independence, previous lifestyle or career, if that’s how you are feeling!
This month has been an interesting one, for me, and I am sure for a great many As we shift and evolve our vibration shifts and evolves or drops depending on where we place our focus. Yesterday I received a contract from a lawyer, who I was hiring to review my contract with my builder As I woke, I could see the irony of that. I hire one lawyer to review a build contract, but to work with him I must sign another contract from him, which I need to hire yet another lawyer to read the complicated contract send to me from the lawyer hired to review the first contact. I called BS and walked away.
The second email was a business proposal, purporting to outline parameters of a pending business partnership. As I read there was a lot about how much money
would need to pay them, for them to use my IP Vibrationally this approach is lower than the vibrational frequency of my own work – I walked away from that as well
Do Affirmations work, not really – they are generally repeated on ‘roat’ and that is not the vibrational frequency you need to manifest. The Universal Mind only responds to a vibration high/low good bad ugly - it responds to that frequency and gives you more of that
Therefore, what is the answer It is simple really … daily transmute whatever the subconscious mind is bringing to your attention.
For me that is looking at the two scenarios that presented to me yesterday, and see where I need to transform, in order the frequency contained in the two offers to work with different people in different capacities is aligned to me. I use my Freedom to BE program as it helps me identify what I may not consciously be aware of and transmutes it in four minutes. Jan-Marie Brooke. JanMarieBrooke.com.au

During the winter months, it's important to give our immune system a bit of extra love to help prevent those unwanted colds and flus Our immune system helps our body to prevent infections, reacts against foreign substances and abnormal cells
Basic dietary and lifestyle modifications can help to support and strengthen our immune system, giving our bodies the best chance to fight off infections.
Here are my top tips for supporting your immune system this winter:
1. Up your intake of fruits, vegetables, herbs & spices! Fruits, vegetables, herbs and spices are rich in vitamins and minerals, loaded with antioxidants and have anti-inflammatory properties which help to modify immune responses and support a healthy immune system. Aim for 5 - 7 serves of colourful veggies and 2 - 3 serves of antioxidant rich fruit per day. Add herbs and spices to your meals including thyme, rosemary, mint, sage, oregano, chives, cinnamon, cardamon, basil, turmeric, ginger, and dill or sip on herbal teas including echinacea, ginger, chamomile, dandelion, chicory root, passionflower, peppermint, lemon grass, hibiscus, and elderberry.
3 Enjoy the sunshine & boost your vitamin D levels - Vitamin D helps to regulate the immune system by reducing inflammation and enhancing the function of immune cells that protect us against viral, bacterial and/or fungal pathogens Aim for at least 15-30 minutes of direct sunlight per day
4 Manage your stress - Stress can impact our immune system’s ability to fight off antigens, which makes us more susceptible to infections. If you ’ re feeling stressed, try to implement a few practices into your daily routine to help calm your nervous system and clear your mind. This could include meditation, practicing mindfulness, booking in for a massage, walking in nature, calling a friend, deep breathing, journaling, or taking some time out for yourself.
5. Prioritise sleep - adequate rest and sleep can help to reduce inflammation and enhance the ability of your immune cells to fight off viruses and other pathogens. If you can, aim for 7-9 hours of sleep per night.
6. Move your body daily - Exercise, physical activity and movement helps to circulate blood and nutrients throughout the body and modulates the immune system by increasing the production of white blood cells (which help protect us against pathogens). Aim for 30-60 minutes of movement (walking, running, resistance training, bike riding, swimming, yoga, pilates, etc.) each day.
2. Reduce your consumption of caffeine, alcohol and sugary foods. Caffeine, alcohol and sugary foods can reduce our bodies ability to fight off infections and make us more susceptible to getting sick Swap your caffeine and alcohol for a herbal tea, bone broth, fresh fruit juice or a smoothie packed full of vegetables and fruit
For more individualised advice on specific nutrients and supplements, chat to a registered Naturopath or Nutritionist. Nutrients such as Vitamin C, Zinc, Vitamin D, NAC, Quercetin and Vitamin A, along with some herbs can really help to boost your immune system and prevent that unwanted cold or flu! Always chat to a professional before taking any supplements
You’ve probably heard the saying “set in stone”. Traditionally it means something that is permanent or cannot be changed. This is where the Oathing Stone ritual probably originated, in Ancient Celtic traditions. According to this tradition, a promise or vow made while holding an Oathing Stone is the most powerful and binding of promises…. and if the words are said while standing by running water that’s believed to be even more powerful.
So, what is an Oathing Stone? There are no rules about size or what they look like, you can choose to have one specially engraved and decorated or find a rock you like in your own garden or on a beach walk, maybe decorate it or leave it in its natural state. Whatever shape and size you select, it becomes your Oathing Stone when you hold it in the palm of your hands while making your promises
There’s another ritual with an Aussie twist that involves rocks and stones Originating in the convict era, the custom of throwing a rock or a pebble into the water after
Leanne Smith Leanne Smith Civil Celebrantexchanging wedding vows was a tradition born of the times when there were often no jewellers close by and wedding rings were hard to find So, a couple who were getting married would each hold a pebble or a rock in their hands while they exchanged their marriage vows and then, together they would toss the pebbles into the nearest body of water, maybe a creek, a river, or the ocean. They knew the pebbles would lie together on the bed of that body of water for all time. Whatever tides, storms or floods raged above those pebbles would remain nestled underneath the water as a solid reminder of their promises. This ritual can also be adapted to include children and close family members where it symbolises the unity of a family.
If you are looking for ritual ideas for your wedding, you might like the thought of setting your promises in an Oathing Stone or simply chucking rocks in the water.

LeanneHello fellow wild food foragers, my name is Kimberly and I am the owner of Silver Sage Cottage I study edible plants in our local area for basic survival and fun It’s surprising the amount of wild food, medicine and useful plant resources that are available to us in nature I will be showcasing one, safe, easy to identify, wild edible plant each month I will provide a photo, a common name, a botanical name, some basic information about the plant and a recipe to try I forage and eat the plants showcased and know them to be safe, however I encourage you to do your own research and ensure that you have the correct plant before eating it
Disclaimer: I am not responsible for what you ingest, you are wholly responsible for your own safety If you are unsure, please feel free to contact me for help with identification at Silver Sage Cottage 0498076683
This plant is edible both raw and cooked; all parts of the plant are edible However, I will give a warning with this one It contains “oxalis acid” that can be toxic when eaten raw, in large amounts. Green Deane from Eat The Weeds says, “ you would have to consume it like a force-fed lab rat for months” for it to have any toxic effects; parsley contains more oxalic acid than wood sorrel. It can be neutralised with cooking or eating raw with dairy. As always, please do your own research and use your own best judgement before trying it
LEAVES: eaten raw or cooked, they have a lovely sour taste. They can be added to salads, sauces, stir fry’s, soups, stews, teas, deserts and cordials.
FLOWERS: eaten raw or cooked they add a bright pop of colour to salads or as a garnish for sweets Simply they can be nibbled straight from the plant
ROOTS: eaten raw or cooked, they look like small, opaque, carrots with a crisp sweet taste. This plant was cultivated in South America for its sweet and juicy roots.
NUTRITION: high in vitamins A and C this plant was used historically to treat scurvy

1 pre-baked tart shell
