Juicy Inner Glow became a business for Amy Shiell after she discovered that a friend was using supermarket juices for a juice cleanse that she was doing

Amy, a qualified chef knew that bottled juices don’t contain the same kind of nutritional value as using fresh, organic produce and set about creating her business alongside her partner Jan, of cold pressed juices.

Her own health challenges over the years have led Amy to realising the importance of eating healthy food and making mindful choices, especially in those times where our bodies require extra support. Juicy Inner Glow provides locals with cold pressed juices, buddha bowls, meals and cleanse packages, taking away the stress of having to prepare these. You will find Amy and her partner Jan at the Community Markets on Saturday mornings and other local markets throughout the month.

05

The cleanse packages are a great option for those who are looking to reset their health and wellbeing. They are also fantastic for those of us who are time-poor with them being already prepared for you. You have the option to choose a juice-only cleanse or to be supported with wholesome nourishing meals as well. You also have the ability to choose the length of your cleanse too, making it easier to fit in with your lifestyle. Amy recommends chatting with a naturopath or health professional prior to undertaking a cleanse to ensure it is suitable for you and your health needs

In March I took part in a 2-day cleanse and found the support offered to be fantastic Having everything laid out as to when to consume and eat took a lot of the hassle and stress out of it for me I chose to have the meal package as well as I was looking to reset my own healthy eating journey having gotten off-track of late I found that I was really nourished over the 3 days The cleanses come with a guide to support you on your cleanse journey and Amy is looking to work more closely with local naturopaths as well as set up a Facebook support group for those who opt to cleanse with Juicy Inner Glow. Cleanses happen regularly, so keep an eye out on the Facebook page or head over to their website

Cool Calm Equine Assisted Learning is providing an opportunity for locals to get up close and personal working with horses and dogs as a form of therapy.

Megan Size spent 12 months study Equine Assisted Learning after her daughter’s occupational therapist noted a significant change in her behaviour after working with animals This has led Meg to creating Cool Calm Equine Assisted Learning

What is Equine Assisted Learning?

"A unique approach to experiential learning, where clients are offered safe experiences with horses for the purpose of learning social-emotional skills, personal development, and professional development skills (eg leadership and team building) EAL is a fast-growing modality across Australia and the globe. National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) clients benefit greatly from EAL services as do children, adolescents and adults. "

Located on 25 acres at Cawarral, the property has plenty of space for clients to come and work with the horses, giving them an opportunity to be involved in experiential learning Animals reflect feelings back to us and if you are feeling cranky and unhappy, the animal will reflect this back to you and won’t engage with you

Clients working with Meg in 1 hour sessions can expect to be greeted upon arrival with a check in of how things have been going since they last met, providing them with an opportunity to chat and reflect on what has been. Sessions are client-led offering choice points to create confidences. Open-ended questions are asked and the structure of a session develops from there. Clients are then

able to choose the flow of the session from leading, to grooming and plaiting, to painting the horses or just enjoying the quiet ambience of the farm - there are plenty of options available, all developing important skills such as empathy for self and others, self care and fine motor skills

Meg reports that many of her clients don't want to leave at the end of their session as they enjoy them so much.

With the school holidays coming up, there is an opportunity for kids to experience working with Meg, her horses and dogs out on the farm. The idea is to give kids a chance to spend some time outdoors in nature with the animals enjoying some screen free time and fresh air Details of the school holiday program can be found on the adjacent flyer and bookings can be made by emailing

Your Mindset Matters.......

Meet Tim Chan, Mindset Mentor and Life Coach

at Intra-Mind. Tim is incredibly passionate about helping his clients to change their circumstances by working on the one thing that we all have total control of – our mindset.

Personalised coaching sessions are individually tailored to each person ’ s needs and circumstances Your first session with Tim is complimentary In this session he will get to know you and work with you to map out a plan to then set the steps into place to help you get there in your personal program.

Coaching and mentoring is quite different to the traditional counselling and psychology fields that you may already be familiar with. Coaching works with your mindset and your belief patterns to help you move towards where you want to be in life Just like you would hire a personal trainer at the gym to help with your physical fitness, a life coach works with you to strengthen your mental fitness.

09

Tim’s plethora of life experiences including being a coal miner, concreter, professional soccer player and working in a hospital have led him down the path of coaching and mentoring From a young age, Tim realised the significance of having a healthy mindset and the impact that can have on the outcomes we achieve in life. Being your typical Aussie bloke, Tim is very approachable, easy to talk to and has plenty of strategies to offer. He believes that practice doesn’t make perfect, it makes better, as there is always room for improvements no matter how big or small

Working with clients individually in his office in Yeppoon as well as across the world as far away as Scotland, he also helps businesses to train their teams to have a more positive mindset The language that we use daily and how we talk to ourselves and about ourselves has the ability to make or break us He shares a story of teaching a real estate agent about the benefits of selling a home rather than a house and how a small tweak in the language used can create a massive change.

Tim is also an avid support of small businesses and will be commencing a monthly coffee get together for the small business community to come together and get to know each other, to share their stories and to build a support network. Working in small business can be a challenge and having the right support network around you can make or break you and your business

Supporting charities and other good causes is something very close to Tim’s heart and he is keen to work with local organisations to help out wherever he can. He has established a support program for businesses where staff can come to him to talk to a coach instead of a traditional counsellor in a confidential setting to off-load or seeking assistance He also provides an information pack to businesses to help educate their staff on specific events throughout the year including Movember, Mental Health Week and Breast Cancer Awareness month to name a few.

To book in your complimentary session with Tim, you can contact him via phone on 0488149850 or head over to his Facebook page to find out more.

Tim will also join our team of columnists commencing next month sharing tips and insights on mindset, so be sure to keep an eye out for that!

Ball Gowns for Good

A group of local women have banded together to give those ball gowns, race outfits and cocktail dresses that are sitting in the back of your cupboard a new lease on life and a chance to be worn again and to raise funds for a charity close to their hearts.

A ‘Pop Up Shop’ fundraiser has been set up for the local Black Dog Ball which is Central Queensland’s Premier event, a gala ball that raises awareness and seeks to remove the stigma surrounding mental health issues in regional Queensland

Candice Fraser, Teena Myburgh, Suhaila Hodgkinson, Jessica Lewis, Maria Rooney and Heather McGaun all with a vested interest in mental health and wellbeing have been attending the Ball as a group for a number of years and wanted to help raise some extra funds The idea came about after the women were chatting and decided that reusing outfits was a sustainable way to raise funds and help out the Black Dog organisation

A Facebook group has been created and saw the members go from 0 to over 200 in under 3 days. The group will provide updates of collection points, days and times as well as the details of the ‘Pop Up Shop’. Spokeswoman for the group Candice Fraser said that the group plan to host the ‘ pop up shop’ sometime in June or July to give the public the opportunity to purchase preloved outfits before the start of social events happening in the second half of the year

Body and Soul Yoga Studio have kindly donated the space to the women to host the ‘Pop Up Shop’ and it is anticipated that there will be racks starting at $25 up to $100. Eftpos facilities will be available on the day.

We will continue to keep in contact with Candice and the organising team to bring you the details once they have been confirmed, however it is recommended that you also join the Facebook group to keep updated with the latest information as it comes to hand.

Natureal Elements Affected by Nature

In the recent flash -flooding we received in mid-March, Natureal Elements was affected when high tide coincided with the huge downpour of rain resulting in their shop being flooded. The flooring of the shop was destroyed by this event along with several of the PEMF (Pulsed Electro Magnetic Field) mats which are now rendered unusable

The shop is still open and operational for business and needs your support to get through this speed hump! So if you are in need of herbs, DIY cleaning products, natural beauty products, or gift ideas take a few minutes out of your day and head down to Charles Street and say 'hi’ to Belinda and Hunter Better yet, book yourself in for an Emmett treatment, PEMF Treatment, Lymphatic Drainage or Bowen Therapy. You can book online on their website.

Belinda and Hunter have been fantastic supporters of The Hub Capricorn Coast always donating vouchers to The Giving Fund and offering prizes when we need them, and we’d like to return the favour with your help supporting them through this challenging time!

International Women's Day Celebrations

Saturday 11th March saw the first joint International Women’s Day Event held with The Hub Capricorn Coast collaborating with Coastal Kinesiology to bring an event that celebrated and recognised local women in the community

45 women attended the event which was held at Stir and Stitch, an idyllic setting to mingle, network and to celebrate the talents of local women and the contribution they are making. Amanda and her team at Stir and Stitch did a fabulous job of keeping the rain away and serving up delicious food for the guests in attendance.

17

During the afternoon, women were recognised in 3 categories – Community Spirit, Rookie Business and Mentor. A decision was made during the process of organising the event to remove the title of having a winner for each category as being in small business is challenging enough Instead, each of the nominees were recognised and celebrated for their strengths and contributions in each category

Organisers Shanelle Schick from The Hub Capricorn Coast and Katie Crews from Coastal Kinesiology were very pleased with how the event turned out. They are looking to collaborate to organise future networking events to help support women in small business on the Capricorn Coast If you are interested in hearing about future events or wish to be part of the planning committee, please reach out to either Shanelle or Katie to register your interest.

How long have you been part of the emergency services and in what year did you start.?

I joined, what was then the Queensland Fire Service, in 1997 and I am now a Lieutenant. In 2006 I also became a Fire Communications Officer, so I now take the Triple Zero (000) calls as well as respond to emergencies in the Fire Truck

What inspired you to join the services?

I had a friend who was also an Auxiliary Firefighter and he introduced me to a Station Officer who was working in Yeppoon at the time They both mentioned that I should think about joining. At the time I had no idea of what the job was all about, so they explained it all to me and I thought I’d give it a go. Until then it was not something that had even occurred to me that I could do

What has been your greatest high lights of the job?

The people. Meeting and working alongside some amazing people, many of whom I now consider lifelong friends and family Having the opportunity to help so many people in my community is very rewarding. I’ve also learnt so many different skills and a lot about myself in the process. I’m so glad it’s been a part of my life for so long, I can’t imagine what my life would be like if I hadn’t become a Firefighter over 25 years ago.

What advice can you share to other women looking to join the fire service?

If it’s something you want to do, go for it and don’t let anything stand in your way Whether it’s a permanent career or part time, come and have a chat to any of our crew, we can help set you on the right path to achieving your goals Even if fighting fires is not your thing, there as so many roles available within QFES, and we all work together to keep our communities safe

This month we decided to do things a little differently and sent Pete to have a chat with Kerri to find out more about her role as an auxillary firefighter and her contribution to the community

April's Moon Musings

Your monthly guide to what's happening in the astrological world

Before we take a Look at the Moon I just wanted to say a big welcome to Aries season!!!! It is a big shift in energy moving from the waters of Pisces into the fiery energy of Aries, so WELCOME!!

First up in April we Welcome a Full Moon in the opposite sign of Aries, LIBRA! This will occur at 1:34pm ASDT on the 6th April.

Libra is an air sign and also marks the beginning of the signs that are less about your relationship to ‘Self’ and more about how you relate to the ‘Other’.

Libra is the harmoniser and the peacemaker of the zodiac, the strength of seeing both sides of the coin, being fair and just.

As the Full moon, this highlights the polarity between the balance that Libra desires and the bold impulsiveness that canoe seen in Aries. As we know, the full moon is about release, letting go of that which is no longer serving our highest good and reaping the rewards of the hard work we have done and the seeds planted during the New moon cycle

So when we bring the Aries energy of Action, Fearlessness, adventure and confidence and merge that with the Libra energy of fairness, harmony, communication and romance we find the middle ground.

Look at navigating through conflict in a calmer way, without needing to rush in Think about how you show up in your relationships, are you confident to ask for what you need? Or are you a people pleaser that ends up filled with resentment?

Are you able to turn on the observer and see both sides of something or is your ego taking over?

This is the time to find the balance between your own wants, needs and desires AND those of your loved ones. This Libra full moon may bring your intimate relationships to the forefront so if there is anything that needs resolving this energy will support this happening fairly

Libra is Ruled by the planet Venus (planet of love and beauty) So she wants to show her love and also to receive it. Are you able to do both?

Cardinal signs and those with strong 7th and 1st house placements will feel this the most - Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn. Look to the house that is ruled By Libra to see where this energy will show up in your personal life.

21

As April draws to a close as does Aries season with our Second Aries New Moon of the year! This New moon also brings the intensity of a total solar eclipse with it. This will occur at 2:12pm ASDT with the eclipse a few minutes later at 2:16pm on the 20th April.

This is potent I AM Energy!

Aries is the first sign of the Zodiac, the pioneer, the leader the WARRIOR!

It is time to lean into your warrior energy.

The New Moon asks us to set our intentions and plant the seeds for the future however, I am not inclined to do this during an eclipse as the energy can be a little unpredictable and I tense.

Instead I recommend being gentle with yourself, putting yourself first and checking in on your personal needs and desires.

Aries has a natural confidence and is generally good at asking for what they want so this is supportive energy to speak up and take action towards your goals

Be careful Not to react too harshly or be overly impulsive though, you may say something your don’t mean. Aries also represents adventure, challenge and new ideas so if your were thinking of starting a new venture or beginning a new routine, the Aries New moon will support you in taking the action needed to move forward here.

Look to the house in your chart that is ruled by Aries to see what area of your life will be in focus and receiving this energy

Cardinal signs and those with strong 1st house or Aries placements will feel this the most - Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn.

22 New Moon in ARIES!

A Medical Medium is a seeress of the human body and soul as they relate to each other The impact that health, relationships, beliefs, fears, and choices have on the physical body is explored

It’s a Matter of Worth

An interesting observation I have made after working as a Holistic Therapist for over 15 years, is many women (I have always predominately worked with women) are driven by lack of self-worth Many of them know it, but pretend it’s not there Some cover it up with a big smile, incredible discipline/punishment and or self-avoidance.

The problem here is as women, we haven’t been shown how to love and value themselves. For far too many generations women have been raised to think they are too fat, too ugly and need to find security, love and acceptance outside of themselves. Now, I know you are thinking, we all know this. This is not new information.

My question is. Are you ready to do something about it?

It’s time. It’s time we started to ask ourselves the questions. What questions? Here are some examples.

“Why do I put other’s needs above my own, even when I am exhausted?”

“Why do I constantly pretend I am fine instead of telling people the truth and getting support?’

“Why do I refuse to spend money on things of value for myself, invest in myself and grow as a person?”

It is time for women to start getting truthful with themselves about how they really feel, what they really want and what they are saying to themselves in their heads…….constantly. It’s as simple as finally looking in the mirror and saying, “I’ve got you. Today I start to give you what you are worth.” Be honest, your thoughts will tell you what you think.

No one expects it to be easy or fast. Hire a coach, a trainer, get a massage or treatment. Walk on the beach, buy the shoes. DO SOMETHING for yourself that you have always wanted to do, but don’t feel worthy of. It’s starts with one small act of self-kindness.

Navigating Anxiety with Hypnotherapy

Celebrities including Keira Knightly, Chris Hughes and Anna Richardson have spoken about using hypnotherapy for anxiety and its effectiveness So, let’s chat about how hypnotherapy for anxiety for the everyday person shall we?

Hypnotherapy for anxiety works at the subconscious level It moves you into a deeply relaxed state slowing your brain waves and creating a connection with the subconscious to instill new suggestions and techniques that encourage change

The Hypnotic experience itself is deeply relaxing, simply having the space and time to relax while in hypnosis can relieve shorter term anxiety, however the magic is really in the suggestions introduced while in trance.

Hypnotherapy for anxiety works best when combined with Cognitive Behavioural Therapy or Mindfulness-Based practices As a Meditation Teacher and Clinical Hypnotherapist I see firsthand the great results when the two modalities working hand in hand.

There are a number of lifestyle factors that can also support people to manage anxiety, such as exercising, relaxation training, improves self-talk, improved nutrition, quality sleep.

Generally, we all know the things we should be doing to support ourselves, but sometimes we get in our own way and need a little help in doing so, perhaps for you it looks like an accountability buddy, a therapist (specialising in hypnotherapist, wink, wink), or a whole lot of motivational self-talk until your habits stick.

What Happens in the 4th Trimester?

Just when you thought you’d reached the finish line of pregnancy, you discover there’s one more “trimester” to get through.

The 4th trimester is the postpartum period from birth until your baby is 3 months old Dr Harvey Karp, a pediatrician who theorized that human babies are born around 3 months too early, is believed to have coined the term “the 4th trimester”. This time accounts for the major changes your little one goes through in a short time. The 4th trimester is a period of significant physical, mental, and emotional development in your baby.

This is also a major time of change for new mums too, as your body readjusts to no longer being pregnant, you are learning how to care for a new baby, and navigating the major life changes that come along with it These sleep deprived; emotionally tumultuous early days can seem quite overwhelming

Understanding this time and what to expect can help you to be more prepared. It is a good idea to gather your “village” before baby is born. This could include leaning on your friends and family, getting to know other parents who live near you, or outside resources like a postpartum doula

Between trying to feed, bathe, soothe and bond with your new baby, it’s important to remember that you are only one person. Lean on your village for support in providing all the love and care YOU and your baby needs. So often, after the baby is born, the mum gets forgotten, and the baby takes her place as the priority with friends and family We must remember that mums need support just as much, if not more, than anyone else especially during the 4th trimester.

28
(And the importance of a “village”)

4 Types of Music Your Child Needs

Music for babies begins when you first coo to them, or when you are rocking them to sleep whilst humming, or singing a quiet, gentle lullaby. Babies have even heard your music in utero, including the ‘music’ of your beating heart!

Parents often sing little songs or rhymes to them whilst changing their nappy or bathing them – reciting ‘This little piggy went to market’ or entertaining a young child with ‘Round and round the garden’, on their hand Music is such a great connecting mechanism between the parent and child Music provides comfort, familiarity, physical closeness, anticipation and often laughter.

There are four components to music: singing, listening, dancing and playing

Here’s how you can help your child to learn Singing: Sing lullabies eg ‘Rock-a Bye Baby’ or ‘Mockingbird’ and nursery rhymes such as ‘Twinkle, Twinkle little Star’, or ‘Baa, Baa, Black Sheep’. Include the actions, and even young babies will start to really watch your movements and your excitement, and will soon join in for some of the actions, and maybe part of the words Toddlers love songs such as ‘Old MacDonald’ where they play an active role in choosing the next animal, and joining in for the chorus

Listening: This is such an important skill to teach our children Children may hear you, but may not always listen! We start to teach our babies to listen by using our voice expressively when we greet them, or are talking with them We give them rattles to shake, and bells which ring Often we have music in the house and children get to hear what is playing Take care that the volume is not too loud for them We also encourage listening by sometimes having both the TV and the music off, and then pointing out the sound of the birds chirping outside, or the distant sound of the postmans’ bike approaching This really encourages the child to tune in to the sound(s).

29
Sonja Preston Dunstan Baby Language Australia

When you play music, play a variety It can be anything from children’s music to Mozart! By listening to different styles children get to hear the instruments, rhythms and beat

Read books with rhyming verse and repeated phrases as it encourages participation with it’s rhythm

Dancing: I remember clearly as a 6 year old, standing on my Daddy’s feet, while he ‘danced’ me around the room, while he sang "You are my sunshine" – such a beautiful memory Dance with your children, both by holding them on your hip as a baby or toddler, or on your feet with older children

Later dance along side with them, and show them some of your best moves! Have fun doing this – you are creating memories Let the child choose which music they’d like to play, and what type of dancing is going to be best here.

Playing: Playing musical instruments is such fun!

It’s great to have ‘ proper ’ ones, but you can start off by making simple musical instruments yourself. Fill empty, clean plastic take-away containers with a variety of items – dried beans in one, raw rice in another, cotton tips in another one. Place the lids on and use strong tape to seal them (small items can be a choking hazard). Show your child how to shake them and talk about the loud and soft sounds. Two empty cardboard rolls (from lunchwrap) can be used as tapping sticks, and a wooden spoon and empty plastic container upside-down makes a great drum! You can also use a metal saucepan - but this is only recommended if you can cope with the volume! Sing songs with your child, and play along on the instruments you created together.

Happy musical parenting!

What Will Your Coffin Look Like?

It’s a confronting thought for many of us, but I’ve seen a trend over the past couple of years that I think we all really need to be aware of when planning a loved one ’ s final farewell

Did you know you can personalise a coffin by choosing the colour, the artwork and the messaging to make it a relevant reflection of your loved one ’ s personality? (or your own, if you are a forward planner!)

At recent life celebrations, I’ve seen coffins designed with a favourite sports team for a fan who was football obsessed, and a beverage of choice for a fan who wanted everyone to share a final toast, a biscuit themed coffin for a loved one who was a prankster at heart and had a passion for Monte Carlo bickies, and even a hand painted coffin decorated by all the grandchildren.

These ideas help make to make a funeral feel more relevant, they resonate, and it's not so sad. There's so much sad that can’t be avoided during these times, you don't have to make it sadder than it already is. The trend towards coffins that make a statement allows families to take the opportunity to reflect the person that they're saying farewell to and acknowledge the things that they'll remember about them and treasure those memories.

31
Leanne SmithCivil Celebrant

Of course, the proceedings are still respectful but I guess the rules are, there really aren't any rules Beyond the aesthetic design, many families also choose unique rituals. It's not unusual to have an opportunity during a service for people to come forward and make a handprint on a coffin or to grab a Sharpie an write a message on them

I watched the guests’ reactions and for guests who were unaware of the unconventional proceedings I see them finding comfort in the surprise. I think they view it almost with a little bit of relief. They feel "Oh, it's OK to smile, it's OK to participate in this, and it's OK to remember a person well’. It eases some of the tension that always associates sad events A lot of times when people come to a funeral service, they just sit there but there's lots more opportunity to be part of what's going on and it's not scary.

So what’s your plan? How will your loved ones say farewell in the way you would've liked it- and not just over tears?

If you have questions or ideas, I’d love to chat any time….

Disclaimer: I am not responsible for what you ingest, you are wholly responsible for your own safety If you are unsure, please feel free to contact me for help with identification at Silver Sage Cottage 0498076683

RECIPE SPANAKOPITA

Ingredients

2 sheets puff pastry (or 8 sheets filo pastry)

500 – 600 grams young green amaranth leaves chopped

300 – 400 grams fetta cheese (or mix of ricotta and fetta to taste)

4 green shallots chopped

2 cloves garlic crushed

1 egg lightly beaten

Herb of choice, salt and pepper to taste

Method

1. Preheat oven to 180c (170c fan forced).

2. Mix amaranth, shallots, garlic, egg, fetta, herbs, salt and pepper together.

3. Oil a baking sheet and place 1st sheet of puff pastry (or 4 sheets of oiled filo).

4. Spread the amaranth mixture on the pastry leaving an edge all around to seal.

5. Place 2nd sheet of puff pastry (or remaining 4 oiled filo sheets) over the amaranth mixture taking care to match edges with first sheet of pastry.

6. Seal top and bottom edges (or tuck in filo) together to form the pie. Pierce the top to let steam out.

7. Brush with milk or egg wash.

8. Bake 30-40 minutes or until golden brown.
