Pamela Amor Calinog
For many Filipino families in the UAE, raising neurodivergent children can feel isolating. But AUsome Family Journey (AFJ), founded by Pamela Amor Calinog, is transforming that narrative. What began as a personal mission has become a vital support group for families navigating Autism, ADHD, Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD), and more recently, Down Syndrome.
Pamela’s advocacy is deeply rooted in her own experience. Her eldest son, Daniel, was diagnosed with Global Developmental Delay and Autism Spectrum Disorder, leading her to study Applied Behavior Analysis and work as an ABA Therapist and Learning Support Assistant. Her second son, Dave, was later diagnosed with ODD, and her daughter, Dawn, showed signs of ADHD. These challenges pushed Pamela and her husband to embrace early intervention and community support.
Building a safe space for Filipino families raising neurodivergent children in the UAE
“We often feel like we have to be superhuman,” Pamela shares, “but the truth is, we’re just doing our best—and that’s enough.”
In 2023, Pamela launched AFJ to provide Filipino families in the UAE with a safe space for connection, learning, and empowerment. What began online has grown into a thriving community with impactful programs such as Therapy Talks, Espresso Yourself (a support group for moms), Colors of Determination (an arts program), and Palarong AUsome (inclusive sports activities).
AFJ recently expanded to include children with Down Syndrome, marking this with a dedicated event in March. The group’s inclusive initiatives continue to grow, thanks to the dedication of AFJ officers, volunteers, and supportive parents.
Pamela also founded Inclusive Connections Enterprises (ICE), helping fellow parents earn income through event organizing and online sales, without the legal burden of business permits. She further serves as a Brand Ambassador for Hidden Disabilities Sunflower UAE, promoting awareness of invisible disabilities. This global initiative, led in the region by Topland and Zayed Higher Organization Abu Dhabi, advocates for better public understanding of hidden conditions.
As AFJ approaches its second anniversary, Pamela remains committed to one powerful belief: no parent should feel alone. “Every child deserves to be seen, understood, and celebrated,” she says. “Together, we’re creating that world.”

Anew track titled Filipino Boy is turning heads in Dubai’s Filipino community for celebrating identity, grit, and positivity through hip-hop. Produced and recorded in the UAE, the song brings together three OFWs turned rappers—Eugene Paul Domaluan, Rodel Naviamos Doromal, and Ako Si Juan—each blending their unique style to create a clean, uplifting anthem for Filipinos worldwide.
“We wanted to create something that speaks of who we are—not just as rappers but as Filipinos working and thriving abroad,” said Eugene, a Business Development Manager for a Bostonbased company. “This is a celebration of the values and culture we carry with us.”
Doromal, an auto technician in Dubai and a longtime hip-hop head, came up with the concept and invited Eugene and Ako Si Juan to collaborate at his home studio. “The energy was right from day one,” Eugene shared. “It’s not every day you get to work on something this meaningful in hip-hop.”
Despite their busy 9-to-5 jobs, the trio carved out time on weekends to record, often spending more time bonding than rapping—but pouring heart and soul into every session. “We gave it our all once we hit the mic,” Eugene said.
The final mix was handled by Dubai-based sound engineer Imani Vici, with visuals crafted by director Japsyy Ballers. Sponsors were also acknowledged in the official YouTube release.
Doromal’s verses draw heavily from personal experience. After moving to Dubai eight years ago as a trainee at Audi Al Nabooda, a nearfatal car accident reignited his passion for music. Known for songs like Imulat Mo and Bagong Bayani, his lyrics often reflect OFW life and social issues.
“Doromal brings high energy, and Ako Si Juan adds laid-back yet sharp bars. They’re both OGs in the Pinoy rap scene,” said Eugene.
What sets Filipino Boy apart is its family-friendly content—no explicit lyrics, just raw talent and heart. “We wanted something people could sing with pride,” Eugene said. “It proves you don’t need profanity to make an impact.”
With more solo tracks and collaborations on the horizon, the trio is just getting started. “We’re all dreamers,” Eugene said. “This is just the beginning.”

Boy’ to honor Pinoy pride
From a modest kitchen in Bacolod City to the high-end culinary scene of Qatar, Joseph Ballados has risen to become one of the youngest and highest-paid Filipino brand chefs in the Middle East at just 33 years old. “It’s a great sense of pride in representing Filipino cuisine on a global culinary stage,” he shared with TGFM.
Joseph’s passion for food began at home, where he learned to cook traditional Ilonggo dishes from his mother. At 18, he moved to Qatar, starting as a line cook in a popular restaurant. There, he developed a unique fusion of Japanese and Middle Eastern flavors, quickly earning a promotion to head chef. His talent and leadership eventually led him to Aruya Ventures, where he now manages multiple world-class restaurant brands.
His biggest break came when he was appointed brand chef of Chai Wu London by Harrods—an international recognition of his culinary artistry. “I felt fulfilled and had mixed emotions, but I knew I had made it when I received positive feedback from the board members,” he said.
Joseph’s mission is to elevate Filipino cuisine on the global stage. One of his signature dishes is a reimagined Chicken Inasal from Bacolod, infused with Japanese Yuzu to appeal to local Arabic tastes. “Filipino culinary talent stands out globally due to our hospitality—it’s in our blood,” he explained.
Despite his rapid ascent, Joseph remains grounded and grateful. He encourages young Filipino chefs to “stay curious, be creative, and never stop learning.” He also highlights the importance of a clean kitchen and a strong support system, crediting his mother and family for their constant encouragement. “Always seek guidance from God to lead the way for every decision you make,” he added.

Rocky Turen
Rocky Turen has always pursued a life led by creativity. The Filipino multi-hyphenate seamlessly balances his passions for music, acting, and vlogging— constantly reinventing himself along the way.
His artistic journey began with music. Hailing from Manila, Rocky debuted with the solo album Pandemia in 2020, a raw reflection of life during lockdown. Songs like “We Cannot Go Outside” captured the emotions of solitude and introspection. He went on to form bands like The MaineStream and The HearSays, whose album Side Effects of Youths Mental Breakdown features tracks such as “Sunflower Bloom” and “Paalam, Sa Tabi Ko.”
As a composer, lyricist, and mix engineer, Rocky is deeply immersed in all aspects of music production. “Music is more than just a passion — it’s a way to tell stories,” he shared.
Living without boundaries through music and acting
In 2021, Rocky expanded into acting with LUNAS, a Lenten special by Cove Records, followed by Gusto Mo Bang Sumama, a film centered on friendship and music. He later starred in The Cradle, a five-minute silent short directed by Alejandro Miguel Linantud and Zack Revilla. “It was a tough performance… but that’s the beauty of silent films — they teach you how to convey emotions without words,” he said.
Outside of music and film, Rocky stays connected to his audience through “Rocky Turen’s Vlog Ventures,” where he shares content spanning entertainment, politics, and lifestyle. He first gained attention on Facebook through KalyeSurvey, a political street interview show supporting Senator Marc Gamboa’s campaign.
This July, Rocky will release PANDEMIA: Revisiting to mark his debut album’s fifth anniversary. He plans to re-mix and re-imagine its original tracks. “Music is a living thing. It evolves, and I want my audience to experience it in new ways,” he said.

For 29-year-old Clanmaurice Evangelista, flying has been more than a job—it’s been a path to self-discovery, resilience, and faith. Now a flight attendant at one of the UAE’s top airlines, her journey has taken her from the Philippines to Oman and, finally, to the skies of Dubai.
Clanmaurice’s aviation story began after earning a degree in Political Science. Drawn to travel and human connection, she started her career with the Philippine flag carrier, later working in Oman to gain international experience. But when the pandemic hit, she lost her job and returned home. “I knew my heart belonged in the skies,” she told TGFM.
Undeterred, she kept her dream alive, taking on online work and later joining a Philippine budget airline to sharpen her skills. Eventually, her perseverance paid off—just before turning 30, she landed her dream job with Emirates. “After a decade of waiting, I finally got the opportunity,” she beams.
In her seven years in the industry, Clanmaurice has flown with four different airlines, always guided by a passion for service and safety. Her commitment also extends beyond the aircraft— she became a licensed amateur radio operator in the Philippines, helping during emergencies.
Still, life abroad comes with sacrifices. “It’s hard to know I’m missing moments with my family,” she admits. Yet, her strong faith in God has kept her grounded. “That has always been my
Clanmaurice Evangelista
anchor.”
Working overseas has expanded her worldview and deepened her resilience. But home remains close to her heart. She dreams of returning to the Philippines one day to be with her family and serve in her church.
Her message to fellow OFWs: “Have faith and trust in God. Remember why you started and always keep your loved ones in mind. If you ever feel like giving up, think of them. And always choose kindness—especially toward fellow kabayans.”

How a Filipina turned challenges into a dream job with a leading airline in Dubai
Cara Caasi Singh and Alexandra Diaz
How two Filipina healthcare leaders in the UK are redefining clinical trials
The world of clinical research demands more than expertise—it requires compassion, grit, and vision. For Cara Caasi Singh and Alexandra Diaz, co-founders of Ascend Clinical Research, these values are personal foundations for building a patient-first research organization.
Cara began her career in the UK at Cambridge University Hospitals, working with cancer patients in acute and palliative care. But witnessing the limits of available treatments pushed her toward clinical trials. At the Cambridge Cancer Trials Centre, she became a top recruiter, later expanding her scope to psychiatry and neurosciences at the UK’s first psychedelic-focused research facility. Despite leadership challenges and resource constraints, her patient-centered approach remained steadfast.
Founding Ascend Clinical Research marked a
turning point. “We’ve designed our business model with the patient at the core,” Cara shares. Ascend’s streamlined assessments ensure patients are reviewed within 24 hours, creating trust and improving access.
Alexandra’s path began in 1999 as a nurse in the Philippines, later moving to the UK. Her leap into research nursing came by chance, but it sparked a lifelong passion. “I applied without knowing much about it,” she recalls. The experience opened her eyes to research’s power to shape healthcare’s future. Rising through the ranks to SiteChoice Manager for EMEA, she learned how culture and values influence team success.
As Ascend’s Chief Operating Officer, Alexandra leads with empathy and faith. “Do to others what you would have them do to you,” she says, applying this Golden Rule to her leadership style.
Both women balance demanding careers with motherhood and mentorship. Cara draws strength from her son, a premature warrior who inspires her resilience. Alexandra, a frequent speaker at industry events, believes in the power of listening: “If you learn to actively listen to questions, you learn even more.”
Together, they’ve turned Ascend into a beacon of innovation and care, driven by lived experience, deep purpose, and an unwavering belief in better outcomes for patients.

Kath Dizon
In an industry often ruled by algorithms and gatekeepers, UAE-based Filipina electronic music producer and sound artist Kath Dizon—known as Manic Mundane and Madam Void—is forging her own radical path. Working solo and DAWless, she bypasses traditional software by using standalone drum machines, grooveboxes, and synthesizers to produce immersive sonic landscapes with no creative compromise.
Her 2022 debut EP Narrative Three, released under Cebu’s indie label Melt Records, drew acclaim from CNN Philippines, MixMag Asia, NME, and more for its raw emotion and tactile sound design. Mixed and mastered with Sho Hikino, the EP introduced Dizon’s fiercely personal approach to electronic production.
In 2024, she expanded her artistic scope by composing and performing the soundtrack for KANTIL, a Cinemalaya 2024 entry, solidifying
UAE-based Filipina artist redefines electronic music with raw, selfproduced soundscapes
her versatility across mediums. As Manic Mundane, Dizon crafts cerebral electronica layered with haunting vocals, while Madam Void leans into abrasive sound art and feminist punk—both rooted in her lived experiences as a woman on the margins.
This May 17, Dizon is set to perform for Translating Oscillations: Activations at Jameel Arts Centre, part of Youth Takeover 2025. The performance is curated by Jared Maxilom in collaboration with the independent collective Halo-Halo Experiment, which Dizon cofounded. The event explores sound’s ability to resonate across disciplines, identities, and space—territory Dizon knows well.
Her growing list of appearances includes the Public Art Abu Dhabi Biennial, Resound, Vinyl Souk, and underground circuits in Singapore and Malaysia. She’s also performed for Fête de la Musique Philippines in Cebu and Mindanao,
consistently representing Filipino artistry on global stages.
Through Halo-Halo Experiment, Dizon has helped cultivate a space for sonic misfits and multimedia disruptors—an extension of her belief in autonomy, experimentation, and community. In a field where women producers are still rare, Dizon doesn’t just participate—she pioneers.

Luiji John Karlo Miravalles Suarez
For many Filipino nurses, the dream of working abroad begins with a desire for a better life. But for Luiji John Karlo Miravalles Suarez, that dream transformed into a mission anchored in equity, education, and advocacy.
Now a senior staff nurse at Mater Dei Hospital in Malta, Suarez has more than a decade of nursing experience spanning the Philippines, the UK, and Malta. His journey began not with a grand plan, but with curiosity—sparked by stories from friends and social media. Drawn to Malta’s vibrant culture and Mediterranean climate, he took a leap of faith in 2017, launching a journey marked by resilience and growth.
Suarez pursued postgraduate studies while registering as a nurse, eventually earning multiple degrees. He embraced the shift from the Philippine-American healthcare model
Transforming healthcare in Malta: How a Filipino nurse became a voice for migrant workers
to Malta’s British-influenced system and even learned Medical Maltese to better connect with patients. “Each day offers valuable lessons,” he shared. “I collaborate with professionals from across Europe and beyond, which broadens my understanding and appreciation of diverse healthcare practices.”
Beyond his clinical role, Suarez wears many hats: educator, researcher, advocate, and even indoor cycling coach. His commitment to inclusivity is reflected in his work as a preceptor for non-EU nurses and his involvement with the University of Malta’s Platform for Migration. “Diversity is a strength,” he says. “Our varied backgrounds enrich the workforce and improve patient care.”
Despite the distance from home, Suarez stays connected to the Filipino community through digital platforms and support groups—spaces that foster shared resilience and identity.
To aspiring nurses eyeing opportunities in Europe, Suarez offers this advice: “Don’t let fear hold you back… In difficult moments, my grit and resilience carried me forward.”

Maria Sheila Barsumo Ayonayon
Once a businesswoman in the Philippines, now she’s helping housemaids thrive in the UAE
When the book-selling business she ran with her husband faced challenges, Maria Sheila Barsumo Ayonayon made the bold move to leave the Philippines in 2008 and seek a new path abroad. Sixteen years later, she has carved out a meaningful career in the UAE, now serving as Sales Officer at NABD Emirates Labour Assistance, where she connects Filipino housemaids with families while ensuring their safety and well-being.
Her overseas journey began with secretarial work in Dubai, later moving to roles in Al Ain and Abu Dhabi. The turning point came with the launch of Tadbeer centers, government-regulated agencies for domestic worker recruitment. From Ras Al Khaimah to the capital, she rose through the ranks and eventually held a leadership post at Leadership Tadbeer, where she oversaw embassyrelated matters and welfare programs.
One moment she’ll never forget is her farewell
from that company: “They surprised me with a Certificate of Recognition. I was in awe,” she recalled. Though her move to Oman was shortlived, she quickly returned to the UAE and joined NABD, helping shape it into one of the country’s top Tadbeer agencies.
For Maria Sheila, the job is personal. “Hearing from employers that they’re happy with the maids we provided makes all the hard work worth it,” she shared. From screening applicants to monitoring deployed workers, she brings empathy and dedication to every step of the process.
Her impact goes beyond the office—she has mentored others, spoken about worker welfare, and supported fellow OFWs navigating life abroad. Early on, she dealt with inappropriate proposals from potential employers, but her firm resolve and the support of friends helped her rise above it.
Now, as she looks forward to returning home someday, she hopes to assist her husband’s clothing business and spend time with her granddaughter. Still, she remains committed to helping others chase their dreams abroad. “Save money, make a plan, and don’t forget why you’re here,” she advised fellow OFWs.

Filipino karting sensation Axel Nocom once again proved his place among the world’s best after finishing 9th out of 36 top junior drivers during Round 3 of the Champions of the Future Academy Program (COTFA), held at the historic Pista Azzurra circuit in Jesolo, Italy.
The 13-year-old racer battled against competitors aged 12 to 14 at what is often regarded as the Monaco of karting—an iconic track where legends like Senna, Schumacher, and Prost once raced. Known for its technical demands and tight corners designed for intense side-by-side action, Pista Azzurra pushed every driver to their limits.
Axel climbed as high as second place during the final race before a minor incident dropped him to P9. Despite the setback, his resilience and pace stood out on a circuit that punished the unfit and unprepared, with several karts flipping, multiple red flags, and even heats ending under slow procedure.

More than just a race, it was an experience. The event offered a taste of European motorsport culture and competition intensity—something Axel believes young Filipino karters deserve to witness. “It’s really different how races in the Philippines and Europe are done. I hope I can share this experience to PH karters,” he reflected.
As the only Filipino on the grid, Axel continues to wave the Philippine flag proudly on the international karting stage. His next challenge: Slovakia for Round 4 of the COTFA series.

Filipino bodybuilder Alvin Flex once again made waves at the Dubai Pro 2025, clinching a bronze medal in the Men’s Physique (above 175cm) category. Held from June 20 to 22, the competition marked Alvin’s second consecutive podium finish at this IFBBsanctioned Olympia qualifier.
“This year felt more meaningful,” shared the 38-year-old Dubai-based athlete. “Even though I placed fifth overall, I still brought home the bronze. It honestly felt like an even bigger win.”
With just over a year of full-time focus in bodybuilding, Alvin’s rise has been fast but hard-earned. He trained under coach Mark Go to sharpen shoulder width and back detail, while maintaining a tight waist and refining his posing and mindset.
“We left nothing to chance,” Alvin said, emphasizing the importance of preparation, from advance meal prep to rest and hydration. But for him, success is more than just strategy. “God’s favor showed up. This win is not just for me—it’s to glorify Him.”
Behind the scenes, his wife played a critical role. Weeks before the competition, the couple faced a personal trial when she suffered a serious health scare. “There was a moment we almost backed out,” Alvin admitted. “But through prayer and grace, she pulled through. Standing on that stage was a shared victory.”
Alvin now sets his sights on earning his IFBB Pro Card and representing the Philippines on

bigger stages, including a confirmed show in Kazakhstan this November and a homecoming event in the Philippines in 2026.
“Growth doesn’t just happen in the gym—it’s in the choices you make every day,” he said. Alvin aims to build up to 110kg in his off-season with a focus on refining key areas like his back and delts.
His journey has become a source of inspiration for fellow overseas Filipino athletes. “You don’t need the best gear or the biggest following to start—just purpose, discipline, and faith. Honor God with your gift. He sees your effort.”

Filipino bodybuilder claims back-toback wins at Dubai Pro 2025
From motherhood to the red carpet, proves dreams are ageless
Happy Melendres
Building a safe space for Filipino families raising neurodivergent children in the UAE

Hair: Philip Sumampong

Long before she ever walked the red carpet in Cannes or graced fashion runways in Dubai, Happy Melendres was simply a woman from Cebu who loved to dream—and who loved dresses even more. A self-proclaimed pageant judge in her own childhood bedroom, she once spent her days imagining a glamorous world far from the life she would eventually live as a young mother of five. Today, she stands as a muse for renowned designer Michael Cinco, a lifestyle writer, a businesswoman, and one of the most inspiring Filipinas on the international stage.
Her name might be known today across runways and society pages, but Happy’s story began with something more powerful than glitter or fame— it began with a personal crisis and a calling.
Reinventing herself in her late 40s
In 2022, what started as a simple getaway turned out to be the moment that shifted her entire path. “It was a leap of faith—one born out of both crisis and destiny,” Happy shared with TGFM. “In 2022, I told myself, ‘I need a change. I need to see Dubai.’ What was meant to be a vacation turned into divine timing when I was invited to Middle East Fashion Week. There, I caught a glimpse of the international fashion world—and in a fleeting moment, I crossed paths with Michael Cinco. That’s when I knew: my story was just beginning.”
That moment of alignment led her not only to discover a new community in fashion, but also to rediscover a part of herself she had long set aside. As a young girl, she was always fascinated with fashion, but life—as it often does—had other priorities in store. “Fashion has always been in my blood,” she shared. “As a little girl, I’d wear dresses daily, judge imaginary pageants, and dream in sequins and tulle. But life had other plans—marriage, motherhood, and eventually, the challenges of raising five children alone. For years, I thought my runway dreams were just childhood fantasies. Yet at 47, here I am—proof that passion has no expiration date.”
And it wasn’t just modeling that reawakened in her. Her confidence, creativity, and drive all evolved into a full-fledged second life, one that now includes writing, business ventures in agriculture and real estate, and a seat at some of the most high-profile events in fashion. She is a columnist for Cebu BusinessWeek, a presence in the Dubai social scene, and an advocate for women embracing reinvention at any age.

One of Happy’s most unforgettable career moments came in 2024, when she became the first Cebuana to walk the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival. Wearing a Michael Cinco gown, she was not just a guest—she was a vision.
“Surreal yet strangely natural!” she described the experience. “I simply walked as I always do—head high, heart open. The photographers were so warm, and in the moment, it felt like just another joyful stride. But the next day? It hit me, ‘I just walked Cannes!’ I burst into tears of gratitude. That little girl from Cebu, the one who mimicked beauty queens, had finally arrived—not just as a spectator, but as part of the magic.”
Her collaboration with Michael Cinco, which began humbly with a dress request for a Dubai show, has grown into a creative bond. “Pure serendipity,” she said of their meeting. “That request sparked a creative partnership—one where I’ve been honored to wear his artistry and even become his muse. From a single gown to walking in his shows, it’s been a fairy tale woven in sparkles, glitters and divine timing.”
For Happy, being called a muse is not just a flattering title—it’s an experience. “Michael Cinco is a visionary, and his designs carry an otherworldly magic. To be draped in his creations isn’t just about wearing a dress—it’s about embodying a fantasy. When I step out in his gowns, I feel that electricity, and so does everyone around me. It’s a privilege to bring his art to life.”
But even amidst the glamour, she stays grounded. “I don’t see it as balance—I see it as living fully,” she explained of her life that now juggles business, writing, fashion, and motherhood. “My real estate and agricultural businesses ground me, while writing and fashion let me play. Attending events, dressing up—it’s not work; it’s joy. Life isn’t about compartmentalizing; it’s about letting every passion fuel the next.”
A life lived for others, and for herself
Behind the gowns and glowing media features is a woman whose most treasured role is still that of a mother. “People are always surprised when I say I’m a mother of five—and a foster mom to ten more!” she shared. “All my children are thriving professionals—from the Air Force to law. Motherhood is my proudest role, but it’s never stopped me from chasing stars. If anything, it’s given me wings.”
It’s that same grace and fire that she hopes to pass on to other women, especially those who feel like their time to shine has passed. “Dear girls, forget the rulebook,” she said passionately. “Society will tell you when to stop dreaming, how to age, even how your body SHOULD behave. I refuse to listen. If they say metabolism slows at 30, I say mine remains the same! But hear this: if you’re a mother, nurture your children first—they’re sacred gifts. Then? Trust that your dreams will find you, whether at 25 or 47. Keep imagining. Keep believing. The universe conspires for those who dare and trust.”
Among all the milestones she has reached, from international red carpets to becoming a muse of one of the most celebrated Filipino designers in the world, the one that means the most still takes her back to that dream-filled little girl in Cebu. “Cannes, without a doubt,” she said. “It wasn’t just a career milestone—it was the moment I fully became that little girl again, twirling in her dreams. She never left; she was just waiting for her turn in the spotlight.”

For Jeffrey Abdon Sandoval, success abroad wasn’t just about earning more—it was about dreaming bigger and giving back. Now 41, the Lucena-born professional holds a pivotal role at Qatar Aluminium Limited as HSE Statistics, Reports and Communication, supporting strategic decisions that impact safety and quality across the company.
Jeffrey’s academic excellence began early: valedictorian at Gulanggulang Elementary School, honor student at Quezon National High School, and cum laude graduate of UP Diliman. He later pursued postgraduate studies at Ateneo de Manila and Southern Luzon State University, before earning his Doctorate in Business Administration from the Swiss School of Management—where he was awarded the President’s Award and delivered a speech titled “Creating Leaders, Celebrating Legends.”
“My journey is proof that humble beginnings can birth extraordinary destinies,” he shared with TGFM.
Before moving abroad in 2006, Jeffrey wore many hats in the Philippines—as a copywriter, data analyst, and university lecturer. That foundation helped him thrive in the global workforce, where he first joined Fluor Mideast, then SNC Lavalin International, before rising to his current role in Qatar.
“I didn’t just cross borders—I broke barriers,” he said.
But his journey wasn’t without pain. Jeffrey recalls the loneliness, exhaustion, and discrimination many OFWs silently endure.
“There were nights I cried in silence,” he admitted. What got him through? Faith, family, and fellow OFWs. “They reminded me that we are warriors in work boots.”
His fulfillment today isn’t about titles—it’s about meaning. “Every challenge I overcome reminds me I’m honoring those who believed in me when I had nothing but dreams.”
Looking ahead, Jeffrey hopes to return to the Philippines to start a business employing single parents and youth, and to mentor young dreamers. “We are not second-class citizens—we are world-class workers with hearts that never give up.”
To his fellow OFWs, he offers this: “Be wise with your money, kind with your heart, and firm with your boundaries. Even broken crayons can still color the world.”

Manuel Joseph “Seph” Bajarias Sanchez
Meet the visionary behind Filipino fighters’ rise in global MMA
Before making waves in international MMA, Manuel Joseph “Seph” Bajarias Sanchez was a boy raised by his grandparents after his parents—an aviator mother and politician father—separated. Life’s early hardships taught him resourcefulness and grit, which would later shape his journey from schoolyard street fights to global MMA promotions.
Today, Seph is a visionary entrepreneur and international MMA promoter with a mission: to give aspiring Filipino athletes the opportunity to fight abroad and bring honor to the country. “I give dreams to young potential athletes to fight in different countries to represent the Philippines,” he shares. His fighters have competed in Australia, Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore, Africa, Kazakhstan, China, Japan, Europe, and now the UAE.
For Seph, promoting MMA goes far beyond
business—it’s a calling. “Enjoyment for me now is helping Filipino athletes chase their dreams,” he says. Through travel and exposure to various cultures, Seph says he’s realized that success isn’t about profits, but the value you contribute to society. “When you become part of something bigger, you become a bigger person.”
Seph’s entrepreneurial spirit extends beyond sports. He owns a business creating artificial food displays for restaurants, which is gaining momentum globally. Yet, MMA remains his passion. He hopes to establish training facilities across the Philippines to support the next generation of fighters and teach them the values of discipline, respect, and consistency.
Despite a past marked by personal and family struggles, Seph has found purpose and peace. “I say this now because I think it’s time for my parents—especially my father—to know who I am and what I have become. I forgive them.”
His message to fellow Filipinos: “Respect is better than fame. Trust is better than admiration… Be trustworthy and earn respect. Work hard. Train your mind. Focus on the good things. With consistency, good things will happen.”

Rain Alqaseer-del Rosario
At the recently concluded INDEX Dubai 2025, Filipino-Bahraini designer Rain Alqaseer-del Rosario made a powerful debut with her six-piece collection Ysla: A Story of Islands, Crafted through Furniture. The showcase—deeply rooted in her Filipino heritage—captured the textures, silhouettes, and colors of the Philippine archipelago, drawing from coral formations, sea, and sky to evoke both solitude and connection.
“Ysla was born out of a longing to tell stories that felt personal yet universal,” Rain told TGFM. “I want viewers to feel an unexpected familiarity, even if they’ve never set foot in the Philippines.”
Raised in a multicultural household and educated at the University of the Philippines, Rain began her design career in 2011, building her company from scratch. “I’m a firstgeneration manufacturer. I had no blueprint— just trial, error, and persistence,” she recalled.
Filipino-Bahraini designer debuts soulful island-inspired collection at INDEX Dubai 2025
Her breakthrough came after ranking 4th in the national licensure exam for interior designers, which pushed her to pursue product and furniture design.
Her brand, Arksmith, is now known for crafting thoughtful, high-end pieces for hospitality and residential spaces. Ysla, launched during the fair’s opening on May 27, marked a milestone not just in design, but in cultural expression. For Rain, embracing the boldness of her Filipino and Bahraini roots was a journey of self-discovery.
“For the longest time, I conformed to minimalism. Then I realized—I was a closet maximalist all along!” she said, laughing. That realization helped her lean into ornamentation, story, and spirit—hallmarks of the cultures she represents.
Now eyeing expansion in the Middle East, Rain hopes to turn Arksmith into a bridge
between cultures and markets. “I carry the hopes of my team, my community, and Filipino artisans everywhere,” she said. “This is just the beginning.”

Before her songs reached national radio and powerhouse vocalists, Feb Cabahug’s first muse was a pet chicken. At seven, she turned a Christmas poem into her first melody—a spark that ignited a lifelong journey of storytelling through music.
Growing up in Cebu in a musically inclined family, Feb was immersed in rhythm from an early age. “My great-grandfather… could compose and play almost any instrument,” she told TGFM. This legacy shaped her emotionally driven songwriting process. “I start with emotions, followed by the melody, then lyrics,” she shared.
Her song “Ikaw Ba O Ako?”—inspired by a friend’s heartbreak—took a year to write and marked her first professionally arranged piece, performed by Tawag ng Tanghalan alumna Donna Gift Ricafrente. “Donna sang it beautifully. It’s a very special song to me,” Feb said.
Another career milestone was having her track “Hubad” interpreted by the Philippines’ Prince of Ballad, Gerald Santos. “It was surreal,” she recalled. “His voice has so much range and shouldn’t be confined to one genre.”
Beyond songwriting, Feb wears many hats— playwright, eBook author, and full-time executive virtual assistant. She wrote LIMA, a modern romantic dramedy, and published a training manual for real estate virtual assistants in the U.S. She manages her busy schedule with Trello and humor: “Things would get chaotic sometimes,” she admitted with a laugh.

Meet the songwriter turning life’s messiest moments into music
At home in Cebu, she finds grounding with her girlfriend and their ten dogs. “They’re my stress relievers. I will never trade the world for them,” she said.
Feb dreams of collaborating with Janine Tenoso, SZA, and Alamat—but for now, she’s focused on staying true to her craft and lifting others through her music.
Her advice to aspiring songwriters? “Never give up… Keep a notebook, write your ideas, and stay passionate. If your goal is to create something beautiful and meaningful, you will be recognized.”

With over 30 years of nursing experience, including two decades in healthcare operations and executive leadership, Janet Jule, DNP, RN, NEA-BC, is making a profound impact in Northern California’s perioperative clinical services. As a senior leader at Kaiser Permanente, she’s focused on improving patient outcomes, boosting workforce development, and advancing quality and efficiency.
Her shift from bedside to boardroom was fueled by a desire to transform care systems. “I began to see opportunities to improve systems, workflows, and team dynamics… I could help create a safer, more efficient, and more supportive environment,” she shared.
Rooted in her Filipino heritage, Janet leads with inclusivity, respect, and collaboration. “Being raised in a Filipino culture influenced my leadership style,” she said. “I seek input from those on the front lines… and consider the impact of decisions on morale, culture, and patient care.”
Among her strategic goals are reducing surgical wait times, enhancing access to care, and fostering staff engagement. She’s particularly passionate about preventing burnout and promoting equity in leadership. “I promote equity and diversity in the workplace,” Janet added, while highlighting mentorship and communication as key to retaining talent.
Janet acknowledges the challenges of leading in the fast-paced surgical space, especially around staffing and coordination. “A seamless day of surgery requires tight planning and coordination among all the team players,” she noted.
As an advocate for Filipino nurses, Janet is pushing for succession planning and greater representation in leadership roles. “Filipino nurses comprise a large percentage of the nursing workforce… It is imperative that succession planning and mentorship be weaved into every frontline nurse’s development plan,” she emphasized.
Her message to aspiring Filipino leaders: “Your presence, your work, and your voices matter… Your role is beyond the bedside. Be proud of what you bring to the table. You make a difference!”
Through strategic leadership and cultural pride, Janet Jule is shaping the future of nursing— empowering others while building a legacy of compassion and excellence.

Dr. Melvin Golosinda Medes
Dr. Melvin Golosinda Medes, a Filipino nurse-turned-educator, has redefined what it means to care—far beyond hospital walls. Now serving as an Education Resource Specialist at Georgetown International Academy in Guyana, his journey across eight countries in three continents showcases how nursing and education can powerfully intersect.
Originally trained in nursing and midwifery, Dr. Medes found a second calling during the COVID-19 pandemic. When the nursing college where he worked in the Caribbean shut down, he chose to stay abroad and pivoted to K-12 education. That shift led him to special education, where he saw strong parallels with the nursing process. “The setting changed, but the mission remained: assess, plan, act, and measure progress until each learner succeeds,” he shared.
Guided by Filipino values like pakikisama and utang na loob, Dr. Medes fosters trust
From bedside to bright minds: Transforming nursing expertise into educational impact
and inclusion in his classrooms. He celebrates his students’ heritage while sharing his own multilingual journey, encouraging them to see their identity as strength.
At Georgetown, he supports English Language Learners (ELLs), aligns content with language goals, and leads data-driven interventions. By analyzing tools like i-Ready, MAP Growth, and WIDA assessments, he helps tailor classroom strategies that directly benefit student outcomes. His dedication earned him an “Exemplary” rating in instructional delivery and praise from administrators for student engagement and fostering independence.
Beyond the classroom, Dr. Medes models lifelong learning. He continues to pursue professional development, attending global education conferences and completing specialized training programs to better serve his students.
For Dr. Medes, nursing and education are not separate callings—they are intertwined missions of care. “Education cannot succeed without trust and empathy, just as nursing thrives on compassion,” he said.
To fellow Filipino nurses seeking new paths, he offers a bold yet humble message: “Step outside your comfort zone and you’ll expand it. We are carers of the world.”
Dr. Medes reminds us that sometimes, expanding care means entering the classroom—and lighting the way for others to follow.

Bella CaNete
At only 13 years old, Bella is already making history as the youngest female drift driver in the Philippines and Southeast Asia. Her passion for speed began early, fueled by a childhood fascination with cars and a thrilling first go-kart ride in Tarlac with her dad. That moment, she said, “never left me.”
Bella’s competitive journey started with karting. Despite early setbacks, her perseverance paid off, allowing her to race in the National Karting Series in 2020 and 2021. But when she aged out of junior karting and was too young for senior categories, she discovered drifting through social media. In 2023, she took her first drift at R33 Drift Track, and her path shifted.
For Bella, drifting is more than a sport—it’s a calling. “It’s not just about the title. I want to inspire kids, especially girls, to chase their dreams,” she said. On the track, she finds focus and freedom, drawing inspiration from

motorsport icons like Daniel Ricciardo, James Dean, and Piotr Wiecek.
Her victory at the IDS NewGen Category— despite entering with low confidence after a tough experience—became a turning point. “Winning that race felt so amazing,” she said. “It showed me I can do it.”
Off the track, Bella faces challenges head-on, from managing asthma and allergic rhinitis to dealing with menstrual cramps during races. “I’ve learned to push through it,” she said. Funding is another hurdle, but her parents’ unwavering support fuels her forward.
A proud member of the Akuma Drift Team, Bella continues to train hard—balancing schoolwork, simulator practice, cardio, and prayer. Her goal: to compete in Formula Drift events in Southeast Asia and North America, and eventually join the Intercontinental Drifting Cup.
With passion as her fuel and purpose in her heart, Bella is drifting her way into history—one fearless turn at a time.

When Princess Acosta–Martinez moved to Dubai in 2015, she envisioned a career in nursing, like many other Filipinos working abroad. But her path took a powerful turn after her nephew, also living in the UAE, was diagnosed with autism. What began as a personal effort to better connect with him evolved into a full-time calling in behavioral therapy.
“I wasn’t planning to become a behavior therapist,” she tells TGFM. “I just wanted to understand and support him. But the universe had other plans.”
Now serving as Program Director for both Georgetown Early Intervention Center in Dubai and the newly opened Georgetown Rehabilitation Center in Abu Dhabi, Princess leads a dedicated all-Filipino team of behavior therapists helping children with developmental differences thrive.
Starting from the ground up, she worked one-on-one with children, driven by empathy and commitment. Over the years, she rose into leadership, not by chasing titles, but by celebrating small wins—like hearing a child say their first word or watching a parent cry tears of joy after months of therapy.
“What I love most about my work is that it’s rooted in hope,” she shares. “ABA is more than a science—it’s a way to give children a voice.”
As a certified International Behavior Analyst and advisory board member of the International Behavior Analyst Organization, Princess now advocates for culturally sensitive care—especially for underserved communities in the Philippines.
“My dream is to build an intervention center back
Princess Acosta–Martinez
home that provides quality care and professional training, especially in the provinces,” she says.
Despite facing cultural barriers, homesickness, and imposter syndrome, Princess remains grounded in faith, service, and the Filipino spirit. “Being an OFW is more than just sending remittances. It’s about carrying skills, compassion, and integrity into every space we step into.”
To fellow Filipinos abroad, she offers this: “Measure your worth by the lives you touch— not the titles you hold.”

She moved to Dubai as a nurse—now she’s changing lives through autism care
espervene
Between 9-to-5 jobs and late-night recording sessions, married couple Liz Alvarez and JJ De Guzman have built a space for raw, introspective music in Dubai’s underground scene. As espervene, they channel themes of mental health, migration, and resilience through a sound that blends electronic grit with post-rock emotion.
Their journey began in 2018 when Liz won a local contest, allowing her to produce her original track Found Me. The warm reception led her to form a band with JJ on bass and three other members. Though the band thrived briefly, conflicting schedules and relocations led Liz and JJ to continue as a duo. With Liz handling vocals, synths, and drum machines, and JJ on guitar, they forged a tighter, mood-driven sound.
This new direction led to their debut album,
How this Dubai-based Filipino duo found their sound through struggle and self-expression
Concrete Delusions, released on May 23, 2025, at The Fridge Warehouse in Alserkal Avenue. The seven-track record reflects their emotional journey as Filipino expatriates in the UAE— navigating burnout, isolation, and hope.
Their personal relationship deepens their creative synergy. “There’s trust, so it’s easier to experiment,” Liz shared. Typically, she starts with a melody or beat, while JJ layers in guitar textures. “When we come together, it always feels balanced,” JJ added. Tracks like Hope and Enough reveal this blend of light and shadow. “Enough was especially personal. It’s like a quiet scream for help,” JJ explained.
Both artists credit their Philippine upbringing for shaping their music. Liz’s roots in classical piano and church bands evolved into an interest in industrial and fusion genres, while JJ’s early
love for video game scores and emo led him to explore sound as emotional release.
Despite challenges in Dubai’s cover-heavy music scene, the couple co-founded The Halo-Halo Experiment—a creative collective spotlighting original electronic acts. Through this, espervene has become a voice for those silently struggling.
“We’re not chasing radio play,” Liz said. “We write to feel—and to remind others that what they feel is valid. That’s how healing starts.”
