Orandantes ‘Dante’

Delizo

Rising from Dubai’s first Filipino structural engineer to CEO

In the realm of engineering, Orandantes ‘Dante’ Delizo exemplifies dedication, resilience, and leadership. He serves as the CEO and Managing Director of Three Leaves Technical Engineering Services LLC, a newly established company specializing in landscaping, architecture, civil, and structural works. Dante’s 39-year career abroad is marked by numerous significant milestones and achievements.

Dante began his overseas career in 1985, hired as a Civil/Structural Engineer by a local consulting design firm in Dubai. This opportunity made him the first Filipino structural engineer in the city, a role that paved the way for his future accomplishments. His initial responsibilities involved designing multi-story buildings and infrastructure projects.

“It was a significant milestone, contributing to the design of multi-story buildings and infrastructure projects,” Dante tells The Global Filipino Magazine.

His educational background is as impressive as his career trajectory. Dante graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Holy Angel University in Angeles City, Philippines. He further honed his expertise by earning a Master of Engineering in Structures from the Asian Institute of Technology in Bangkok, Thailand.

Professional milestones and career highlights

Throughout his career, Dante has held various key positions, each contributing to his growth and expertise in the engineering field. His roles ranged from a Structural Engineer at Munir Architects/ Engrs/Consultants to a Senior Structural Engineer and Project Manager at prestigious firms like Peter Hudson Buckle & Partners, Cansult Ltd, RMJM Ltd, and Halcrow Yolles. He also served as a Principal Structural Engineer at Poyry Energy Ltd and a Project Manager at Tebodin Middle East Ltd/Bilfinger Middle East before assuming his current leadership role at Three Leaves Technical Engineering Services LLC.

Reflecting on his journey, Dante highlights his appointment as CEO and Managing Director as the pinnacle of his career.

“This role allows me to leverage my extensive experience in engineering and project management to steer a company towards success, fostering innovation and excellence in every project we undertake,” he explains.

Dante’s decision to work abroad was driven by the potential for financial benefits, career advancement, and personal growth.

“This experience has been instrumental in shaping both my professional trajectory and personal development, allowing me to achieve goals that would have been difficult to attain otherwise,” he shares.

His work abroad has offered him

opportunities to immerse in different cultures, learn from diverse teams, and grow both personally and professionally.

Living and working in a foreign country comes with its own set of challenges. Dante faced cultural adjustments, language barriers, and the need to build a new social network.

“When I arrived in Dubai 39 years ago, I initially thought I would only finish my 3-year contract due to the vastly different customs, social norms, and daily routines compared to what I was used to,” he admits. However, his resilience and adaptability allowed him to thrive.

Dante’s strategies for overcoming these challenges included learning about the local culture, joining expatriate and local communities, and seeking professional adaptation.

“By joining different organizations in the UAE and sharing my skills, I was able to meet many people who needed my services in the community,” he notes.

His support system, comprising family, friends, and new colleagues, played a crucial role in his successful settlement abroad.

Future plans and aspirations

Looking ahead, Dante plans to leverage his international experience to advance his career and take on leadership roles that allow him to apply his global perspective. He also aspires to mentor others who are considering working abroad, sharing his insights to help them navigate challenges and maximize opportunities.

Dante’s future goals include promoting cross-cultural collaboration through his business, supporting local development projects, and spending quality time with his family. He is passionate about sustainability and environmental conservation, human rights, and social justice, and intends to support these advocacies through various initiatives.

To his fellow Filipinos facing difficulties abroad, Dante offers guidance on staying connected with loved ones, managing finances wisely, understanding employment rights, building trustworthy relationships, and prioritizing well-being.

“Living and working abroad can be incredibly rewarding, but it comes with its own set of challenges,” he advises. “Remember, you are not alone—seek support from your community and fellow kababayans, and always stay hopeful and resilient.”

Froilan Bordoy

Filipino treasury manager rises to success from Batangas to Dubai

Froilan Bordoy, known to many as Froi, is a Filipino expatriate making significant strides in the finance sector in Dubai. Currently serving as a Treasury Manager at Moove Operating Co. LLC FZE, Froi’s journey from his hometown of Batangas, Philippines, to the bustling city of Dubai highlights his impressive career progression and commitment to excellence in the finance sector.

“I come from a family of six, with parents who have now retired in the Philippines,” Froi shares with The Global Filipino Magazine.

His upbringing in Batangas was shaped by the hard work and dedication of his father, a mechanic, and his mother, a housewife. Despite their limited educational backgrounds, his parents instilled in him the values of perseverance and ambition.

Froi completed his Bachelor of Science in Accountancy at Batangas State University and later earned a Master of Business Administration from the University of Santo Tomas. He is also a certified management accountant under the Institute of Certified Management Accountant Australian Charter. Driven by a passion for education, Froi aspires to attain a Doctorate Degree in Economics and Management, with the goal of becoming a professor in the future.

Professional beginnings and career highlights

Froi’s professional journey began at

Banco De Oro, the largest bank in the Philippines, where he worked for five years as a Senior Accounting Assistant. His roles encompassed various functions such as loans processing, LC processing, branch accounting, and marketing.

“My time at Banco De Oro laid the foundation for my career in finance and accounting,” he reflects.

In pursuit of greater opportunities, Froi moved to Dubai, where he joined Aramex as an Accountant. His tenure at Aramex provided him with valuable experience in accounting management and practices. A year later, he transitioned to Mantrac-Unatrac Group Caterpillar, a global dealer of Caterpillar machinery and equipment, as a Senior Treasury Analyst. This role marked his entry into the world of treasury functions within a large and diverse organization.

Froi’s next significant career move was to The First Group, a major real estate developer in Dubai, where he served as a Treasury Manager. Here, he contributed to the treasury management of upscale hotels, residential properties, F&B brands, and real estate or asset and hotel management services. Concurrently, he worked part-time as a Trainer at Intellectual Knowledge Institute.

After two years, Froi moved to Oman to join the Zubair Group, overseeing the Group Treasury Function.

“Managing treasury operations for over 60 to 90 entities across various sectors, including energy, chemicals, contracting, and more, was the most extensive portfolio I have handled in my career,” he notes.

Motivation for working abroad

The decision to work abroad was deeply influenced by Froi’s parents.

“My father and mother worked tirelessly to provide for our family despite their limited educational backgrounds. Their sacrifices motivated me to aim higher and pursue opportunities that could significantly improve our circumstances,” he explains.

Working abroad has allowed Froi to enhance his professional skills and gain valuable international experience.

“It also allows me to send financial support back home, contributing to my family’s stability and helping secure a better future for us all,” he adds.

Froi finds immense satisfaction in his current role as a Treasury Manager.

“The dynamic nature of the treasury function requires a keen understanding of cash flow management, risk assessment, and strategic financial planning, all of which I am deeply passionate about,” he shares.

The most rewarding aspect of his work is the sense of accomplishment from successfully managing the company’s financial resources and navigating complex financial markets.

Settling abroad was not without its challenges.

“One significant challenge was developing trust, particularly in financial matters,” Froi reveals.

Past experiences with individuals who failed to uphold their financial commitments led to a sense of skepticism and caution.

“These experiences deeply affected my trust in people, but they also taught me to be discerning and prioritize my wellbeing,” he adds.

Future aspirations and advice for fellow Filipinos

Looking ahead, Froi aspires to leverage his international exposure to contribute to the development of the Philippines.

“I am committed to using my expertise in finance and management to support initiatives that promote economic empowerment, education, and sustainable development,” he says.

His advice to fellow Filipinos abroad is grounded in his own experiences: “When building relationships abroad, trust takes time to develop. Stay discerning, observe actions over words, and prioritize your safety and well-being. Surround yourself with individuals who demonstrate honesty and reliability, and remember that it’s okay to take your time in establishing trust.”

Glenda Abalde Hines, Ed.D

How a Filipina achieved a perfect GPA and graduated with high distinction in the US

Glenda Abalde Hines, Ed.D., a Filipina educator, has recently graduated with a Doctoral degree in Educational Leadership from Liberty University in USA. Her journey to academic excellence and professional success is both inspiring and remarkable. At 47, Dr. Hines boasts a perfect GPA and has graduated with high distinction, not just in her doctoral program but also in her master’s degree in Educational Leadership from the same university.

Dr. Hines, who has been in the United States for eight years, currently works as the District Science Resource for Curriculum and Instruction at the School District of Osceola County, Florida. She moved to the U.S. as a J1 teacher in 2016, and her dedication and hard work have paved the way for her to become a naturalized citizen and achieve significant professional milestones.

“My journey from the Philippines to the United States has been a remarkable and transformative experience,” Dr. Hines shared with The Global Filipino Magazine.

“After graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree majoring in Biology from MSU-IIT in Iligan City, I began my career as a public-school elementary science teacher. I was employed by the Department of Education in Iligan City for 11 years, teaching at South 1-A Central School and later at Tambo Central School.”

In July 2016, Dr. Hines embarked

on a new chapter by joining the J1 teacher exchange program. She moved to Lawrenceville, Virginia, where she taught Biology, Algebra 1, and Environmental Science at Brunswick High School until November 2018. Her expertise and commitment led her to become a district resource speaker for new teacher orientations at Brunswick County Public Schools.

A significant personal milestone came in September 2018 when she married retired U.S. Marine and Army veteran, Staff Sgt. Anthony John Hines, Jr. This union allowed her to secure a green card in February 2020, and in April 2023, she became a naturalized U.S. citizen. Dr. Hines now resides in Kissimmee, Florida, with her husband and elder son, Ralph Dominic Canonero. Her younger son, Reiman Lorenzo Canonero, remains in the Philippines.

Dr. Hines’ pursuit of educational leadership was fueled by her desire to improve achievement outcomes across all grade levels and to mentor and lead teachers. “My inspiration to pursue a career in Educational Leadership stemmed from a deep desire to improve achievement outcomes across all grade levels and to coach, mentor, and lead teachers in achieving district goals for science,” she explained.

Her academic journey at Liberty University has been nothing short of exceptional. “My experience at Liberty University has been profoundly enriching. The university’s emphasis on developing a biblical worldview in serving others has deeply influenced my approach to educational leadership,” Dr. Hines stated. She completed her master’s degree in Educational Leadership in 2021 and her doctoral degree from January 2022 to April 2024, both with a perfect 4.0 GPA and high distinction.

Balancing her studies and professional responsibilities posed significant challenges, but Dr. Hines managed it

with meticulous time management and a strong support system. “Balancing my studies and professional responsibilities posed significant challenges, particularly as I aimed to maintain a work-life balance while fulfilling my roles as a mother, wife, and educator,” she said. By dedicating her weekends to assignments and maintaining consistent communication with professors and mentors, she successfully navigated her rigorous academic journey.

In her current role at the School District of Osceola County, Dr. Hines has implemented several key initiatives to enhance science education. She has developed a comprehensive science curriculum across all grade levels and organized professional development sessions for teachers. Additionally, she has focused on mentoring science instructional coaches and establishing robust assessment and data tracking systems to monitor student outcomes.

Dr. Hines’ background and experiences in the Philippines have significantly influenced her approach to education and leadership in the United States. “Teaching in the public school system in Iligan City for 11 years, I learned to navigate various challenges with resourcefulness and resilience. This experience instilled in me a deep commitment to educational equity and a belief in the potential of every student,” she reflected.

Looking ahead, Dr. Hines remains committed to driving initiatives that enhance science education and supporting teachers in their professional growth. “I aim to give back by mentoring and supporting teachers, helping them to grow professionally and achieve their full potential,” she emphasized. Her dedication to educational excellence is rooted in a desire to make a lasting difference in the lives of both students and teachers, continually striving to elevate the standards of education within her district.

Ralph Waldo S. Ramos

Meet the first Filipino director making waves at Du Telecom

Having established himself as a formidable presence in the technology sector, Ralph Waldo S. Ramos is currently the Technical Product Owner for Aani at Al Etihad Payments in the UAE. His journey is marked by a series of notable achievements and a steadfast commitment to continuous learning and innovation. Ralph’s career began 12 years ago in Singapore, driven by a desire to seek challenging opportunities and make a significant impact on the international stage.

“The desire to work abroad was driven by a quest for challenging opportunities and a chance to make an international impact in the technology sector. Working abroad has offered me a broader canvas to apply my skills, learn from diverse cultures, and contribute to global tech advancements,” he explains to The Global Filipino Magazine.

Before taking on his current role at Al Etihad Payments, Ralph’s career trajectory included significant roles at esteemed organizations such as Accenture, UBS, Macquarie Bank, Emirates NBD, KPMG Lower Gulf, and Globe Telecom. His experience across these companies provided him with a diverse and rich background in technology and business.

“One of my career highlights has been the

strategic overhaul of blockchain services at Du Telecom, which has now seen me transition into pioneering the instant payment ecosystem in the UAE with Al Etihad Payments,” Ralph shares.

As the first Filipino to become a Director at Du Telecom in the UAE, Ralph has broken barriers and set new standards for Filipino professionals in the technology sector. This accomplishment is a source of pride and motivation for Ralph.

“Being the first Filipino Director at Du Telecom has been an honor and a responsibility. It stands as encouragement to every kabayan that with perseverance and passion, no goal is out of reach,” he asserts.

In his current position, Ralph finds immense satisfaction in the dynamic environment of fintech.

Working overseas has provided Ralph with unique perspectives and growth opportunities.

“Working overseas offers an unparalleled perspective. It’s the intersection of global business dynamics, cultural exchange, and innovation. It’s where I’ve grown the most, both professionally and personally,

adapting and thriving in an environment that is as challenging as it is rewarding,” he reflects.

However, Ralph’s journey has not been without its struggles. Adapting to new cultures, navigating the complexities of international business, and establishing credibility in a competitive industry were some of the challenges he faced.

“Every success comes with its own set of challenges. Adapting to new cultures, navigating the complexities of international business, and establishing credibility in a competitive industry were some of the battles I faced. My resilience, the support of my mentors and teams, and a steadfast focus on my goals were crucial in overcoming these obstacles,” Ralph recalls.

Looking ahead, Ralph plans to leverage his global insights and experiences to contribute to broader technological advancements.

“As I continue to evolve in my professional journey, my aspiration is to leverage the global insights and experience I’ve gained to contribute to the broader sphere of technology advancement. I’m keen on using my expertise to support not just Filipinos but also the global community in embracing technological innovation. Whether through mentoring, collaborative projects, or strategic leadership, I aim to be a catalyst for progress that uplifts communities and enhances human potential through technology,” he explains.

For fellow Filipinos struggling abroad, Ralph offers heartfelt advice.

“Stay resilient and keep learning. The challenges you face are often the best teachers. Invest in relationships and find mentors. Remember, every struggle is a step towards growth. Hold on to your values, and don’t lose sight of where you want to go,” he advises.

Erra Moreño Capa

Filipina’s transformation from employee to entrepreneur with ambition and resilience

The spirit of determination and resilience is exemplified by Erra Moreño Capa, Managing Director of Bridgeway International Consultancy Services. Five years ago, she moved abroad and has since crafted a remarkable journey from being an employee to becoming an entrepreneur, driven by her unwavering ambition and commitment to providing a better life for her children.

“I am an entrepreneur. I manage my own business. My task is to make my people have peace of mind as they work with me,” Erra shares with The Global Filipino Magazine about her current role.

Her journey began as an employee, marking her first experience working outside the Philippines.

Reflecting on her early career abroad, she recalls, “The outstanding part of me being an employee was when I got promoted as a Sales Manager because of my hard work. It wasn’t easy because you have to reach a specific target. Luckily, I exceeded quotas, built strong client relationships, and showcased sales strategies. These are the reasons why I am where I am today.”

Seeking better opportunities abroad

Erra’s decision to work abroad stemmed from her ambition and the challenges she

faced raising two children alone in the Philippines.

“I want to develop my professional skills, experience personal growth, and gain insights into other cultures. My life in the Philippines wasn’t easy, especially if you are raising two kids alone. I thought of going abroad because I want to give my children a life they truly deserve,” she explains.

Before her move, Erra juggled two jobs in the Philippines—managing a small business and working in real estate. Despite her tireless efforts, she often found herself struggling to meet her family’s needs.

“I was earning not much, I could only afford paying my bills, school for my children, and our food every day. One

day, I woke up and realized, is this really what I want for us? Is this all I could give?” This realization prompted her to seek better opportunities abroad.

Erra’s initial years as an employee abroad were marked by continuous learning and perseverance. She observed and learned from her employer, gaining insights into building and managing a business.

“I studied how my employer built his company from scratch, worked overtime to know the processes of having my own company until I decided to build my own empire,” she recalls.

Starting her own business came with its challenges, particularly financial struggles. However, with the support of friends and family, she successfully established her company.

“Fortunately, there’s this one friend who offered me enough money to start my first big step. I have trusted friends and family members who helped me with dynamic documents to serve as our roadmap for establishing the business.”

Finding satisfaction in success Today, Erra leads her own company, employing a team of talented individuals.

She takes immense pride in her work, finding joy in the tasks, positive impacts, and relationships she has built.

“This could be everything to me, it made me enjoy the specific tasks I did, the positive impact I made, and the learning opportunities I had,” she says.

The most satisfying aspect of her work is celebrating every success and victory with her team.

Working overseas has brought Erra significant financial freedom and personal growth. She appreciates the opportunities to develop new skills, expand her network, and enhance her job prospects. However, being away from her family has also been challenging.

“It kills you inside because of the void you felt when your family is not around. I learned to like the idea of being away from them because I can now give everything that they need and want.”

Erra’s journey was not without its struggles. Financial challenges were a constant battle, but she overcame them through careful planning and support from friends.

“I had some friends who lent help just for me to survive a specific number of days. The person whom I admire the most is my parents. My father has been a businessman in our hometown since I was a kid until now. It amazes me how he kept his business alive, and that’s what makes my own company grow.”

Looking ahead, Erra plans to continue her business ventures in Dubai while also maintaining investments and businesses in the Philippines. She is passionate about helping others reach their dreams, stating, “I am an advocate of helping people reach their dreams.”

Her advice to fellow Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) is practical and inspiring.

“Leaving your family is very hard. It takes courage; you have to be very brave leaving them. One of the primary challenges faced by OFWs is the pressure to provide financial support to our families back home. My advice to our kabayans that are still struggling abroad is to live within your means. Think outside of the box; you can start up a business back home to help support the needs of your family.”

Louiegi Aldrin Castillo

Overseas Filipino professional excels in real estate and business ventures

Adynamic force in the real estate industry, Louiegi Aldrin Castillo, widely known as L.A. Castillo, currently holds the prestigious position of Senior Director of Sales at JPDC. He has established himself as a prominent international entrepreneur, demonstrating the power of resilience, determination, and faith throughout his journey.

L.A.’s professional journey began in the Philippines, where he developed extensive expertise in the real estate industry. His current role involves working with a pioneering real estate developer in Manila, offering highquality properties at affordable prices without compromising on quality.

“Alongside my role as a Senior Director in the real estate industry, I also confidently run a successful business called Eastbound Properties & Management,” L.A. shares with The Global Filipino Magazine.

This company provides a comprehensive range of services, including construction, renovations, furnishing, property management, and sales, with a particular focus on the Manila and UAE markets.

L.A.’s foray into the international arena began five years ago when he chose to work abroad.

“I wanted to expand my professional and personal growth while experiencing a new culture,” he explains.

This decision opened up new opportunities and presented challenges that allowed him to learn and grow significantly.

Previous roles and entrepreneurial ventures

Before his current position, L.A. served as an International Sales Director in the UAE’s real estate industry. This role not only showcased the potential of working abroad but also inspired him to establish a small real estate startup in Dubai.

“My experience in Dubai was inspiring, and it encouraged me to establish my own small Real Estate startup in the UAE,” he says.

This entrepreneurial venture has been a fantastic experience, allowing him to explore his passions and expand his business acumen.

In 2023, L.A. returned to the Philippines at the invitation of a friend in the real estate industry. He joined as a Senior Sales Director to start a larger real estate company while continuing to run his entrepreneurial venture in the UAE.

“The chance to work in different places and pursue my passions has been a fulfilling journey,” L.A. reflects.

L.A.’s passion for real estate is evident in his enthusiasm for his work.

“I had the incredible opportunity to work as an International Sales Director in the Real Estate industry, and while it was challenging at first, it was also incredibly exciting,” he recounts.

The freedom to manage his own time and travel while pursuing entrepreneurial passions has been particularly satisfying. Transitioning to an office job in Manila, despite the challenges of a startup environment, has been an inspiring experience.

Benefits of working overseas

Working abroad has broadened L.A.’s horizons and exposed him to a higher level of expertise.

“Dubai, for instance, is a modern city where I had the chance to learn a lot from experts in my field,” he shares.

These experiences have provided valuable insights and perspectives, aiding him in running his own business. He believes that life’s events fall into place according to a greater plan, offering growth and development along the way.

L.A.’s journey has not been without its struggles. During the pandemic, he faced significant challenges, feeling isolated and alone in Dubai while his business in the Philippines suffered. However, support came from unexpected places.

“I met someone in Dubai who was a business owner in the hospitality industry,” he recounts.

This connection provided him with accommodation and income opportunities through stock trading. This period reinforced his faith and taught him to keep pushing forward, trusting in a higher plan.

Looking ahead, L.A. aims to continue expanding his ventures both in the Philippines and abroad. He is passionate about uplifting the lives of fellow Filipinos and sharing his knowledge to help others achieve their goals. He believes working abroad offers invaluable opportunities for learning and growth.

“Meeting people from different nationalities, trying new foods, and learning unique perspectives can be truly enriching,” he notes.

L.A.’s advice to fellow Filipinos struggling abroad is grounded in focus and financial prudence.

“Pursue your goals and focus on your dreams, always remembering why you decided to leave the Philippines,” he advises.

He emphasizes the importance of wise financial investments and selfimprovement, suggesting that investing in income-generating opportunities in the Philippines is a smart move given the country’s current economic boom.

Faith and compassion

Central to L.A.’s life is his faith and compassion. He encourages others to keep Jesus at the center of their lives and approach everything with love and compassion.

“During challenging times, it’s important to hold on to faith and trust that God has a perfect plan for our lives,” he says, referencing Matthew 6:33.

L.A. believes in supporting and encouraging one another, reinforcing the idea that we are all in this together.

Faith Sycaoyao

Filipina visionary in the US inspires change with creativity and compassion

At 19 years old, Faith Sycaoyao has already made a significant mark as a visual artist and Deputy Graphics Director at Climate Cardinals. Her journey into the world of art began with simple scribbles that evolved into detailed scenes, capturing her curiosity and creativity from a young age.

“I started drawing as a hobby around the age of 6 and began self-training by the time I was 13 years old,” she recalls. This early passion grew as she realized art’s potential to transform real-life scenes into captivating works and create something that resonates deeply with her soul.

Faith’s studies in Economics and Business Administration have played a crucial role in shaping her artistic approach. “Studying Economics and Business has influenced my approach to art by deepening my commitment to addressing critical global issues,” she explains to The Global Filipino Magazine.

These studies have provided her

with insights into global commerce and interconnectedness, enriching her exploration of themes such as sustainability and cultural diversity in her work. Her involvement with Climate Cardinals, the world’s largest youth-led climate nonprofit, and her art donation initiative with the Bezos Family Foundation’s Students Rebuild Program are prime examples of how she integrates these themes into her art.

One of Faith’s most significant projects is her art donation initiative with the Bezos Family Foundation’s Students Rebuild Program.

“This endeavor involved contributing a total of 6,000 creative works across two projects under the program since 2023,” she says.

The project required immense patience and resilience but generated substantial five-figure funds for the program’s partners.

“It marked a pivotal moment in my early career—a meaningful initiative with a profound societal impact that I am excited to formalize in the future.”

Despite the recognition and opportunities that come with being featured in international publications, Faith acknowledges the challenges she faces. “Balancing exposure, occasional pressures, volunteer work, personal life, and studies as a student is challenging but manageable with discipline,” she admits. Staying true to herself and maintaining a strong sense of identity helps her navigate these complexities and build resilience amidst global attention and cultural influences.

Faith’s artistic influences are primarily internal and derived from nature. “I don’t really seek external influences to guide my artistic journey. It’s more about introspection and discovering what resonates with me,” she notes. This reflective approach allows her to connect deeply with her experiences and perspectives, striving for a classic and elegant style. “I continually explore various art techniques and engage in creative volunteer work, which broadens my ability to express myself in novel ways.”

One of the highlights of Faith’s career is creating the Boston Marathon Mural titled “Aeolian Step, the Flight of Victory.” “Creating the Boston Marathon Mural was an exhilarating and unforgettable experience for me,” she exclaims. The mural, showcased during the 100th anniversary of the marathon, celebrates Hopkinton’s legacy as the starting point for this prestigious

event. “It’s been amazing to see how it has touched people—bringing together spectators, participants, and the local Massachusetts community to reflect on the Boston Marathon’s legacy and its values.” The positive response and media coverage the mural received were particularly humbling for Faith.

Philanthropy is a core component of Faith’s career. “Philanthropy is important to my career as an artist because it allows me to address issues like climate change and poverty,” she explains. Her life background and birthplace in the Philippines, a country heavily affected by disasters and poverty, drive her commitment to these causes. “The increasing global impact of disasters and the resulting impoverishment, particularly affecting billions of children, drives me to contribute meaningfully to these causes.” Through art initiatives and collaborations, Faith aims to raise awareness and inspire action towards creating positive change.

Looking to the future, Faith’s aspirations are clear. “My future aspirations center on using art to address poverty alleviation and promote sustainability, especially concerning children,” she reveals. Professionally, she hopes to collaborate with nonprofit groups and businesses to implement art-based initiatives that foster sustainable practices and improve the well-being of children in marginalized communities. “Overall, my goal is to continually strive for excellence and growth, to see how my gifts can positively impact others.”

Ronaldo Quetua Francisco

From Bulacan to Taipei: Filipino music maestro triumphs abroad with dedication and faith

Renowned for his dedication and perseverance, Ronaldo Quetua Francisco has built an impressive career as a music teacher and choir and orchestra conductor at the Dominican International School Taipei. His journey, originating in Lolomboy, Bocaue, Bulacan, and now residing in Lipa City, Batangas, led him to Taipei City, Taiwan, where he faced numerous challenges and made significant sacrifices.

Graduating from the UST Conservatory of Music with a major in Clarinet in 1997, Ronaldo initially played with groups in concerts, even performing alongside renowned personalities like The Platters in Hong Kong and Taiwan. However, his career took a significant turn when he decided to work abroad as an Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW).

“I pursued working outside our country first for greener pastures because here as a musician and also as a teacher, the salary is way much higher than in our country,” Ronaldo explains to The Global Filipino Magazine.

He also wanted to showcase the capabilities and heart of Filipino musicians in an international setting.

Currently, Ronaldo’s role at the Dominican International School Taipei involves teaching music to lower, middle, and senior high school students, ensuring they grasp music theory, history, and practical applications. His responsibilities extend to conducting the school’s choir and orchestra, organizing performances, and staging concerts both within and outside the school premises. A highlight of his career was staging a concert for the first time in Taipei with the DIS Symphonic Orchestra, a momentous

occasion captured on his YouTube channel, @ronniefrancisco1900.

Ronaldo’s extensive career in music education began at De La Salle Lipa, where he worked as a music teacher and band conductor from 1997 to 2003. He then served as an enlisted personnel in the Philippine Air Force from 2003 to 2005, followed by a stint as an instrument tutor for BRENT and ISM students from 2006 to 2018. His dedication to music extends beyond teaching; he served as the Auditor of PASAMBAP INC. (Pambansang Samahan ng mga Banda ng Pilipinas INC.), conducting workshops and seminars for various community bands across Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao for free. He also led the Mary Mediatrix Church Youth Choir in Lipa City.

His move to Taipei brought both opportunities and challenges.

“I enjoyed much my current work as a Music teacher and choir/orchestra conductor because here I can show my talent in teaching and performing,” Ronaldo shares.

Despite his passion, the initial years were tough. Being away from his family for the first time was challenging, and he had to manage his finances carefully to support himself and his loved ones back home.

“There were times I only had to eat one can of sardines for a day,” Ronaldo recalls. “Every time we had a video call, I must show happiness and smile for them not to worry.”

Ronaldo’s faith played a crucial role in overcoming these hardships.

“Who I looked up to, it’s only God and prayers that everything will be alright,” he says.

His involvement with the church community in Taipei provided him with both spiritual and physical nourishment, as he received free food in exchange for playing music at Sunday Mass. Now, with his family by his side in Taipei, Ronaldo’s situation has improved significantly. His youngest son is set to graduate from senior high school with a scholarship from his school, and his eldest son works as an engineer at a medical instrument company. His wife continues her voluntary church work, and the family is able to save for their future.

Looking ahead, Ronaldo envisions a simple life back in the Philippines.

“My future plan is to live a simple life in our country in Jala-jala, Rizal, to have a small farm and private resort on our family-owned land,” he shares. He aims to return home once his youngest son completes college and plans to continue his passion for music by offering free seminars and workshops.

Ronaldo’s advice to fellow OFWs is rooted in faith and resilience: “Never forget to pray,” he emphasizes.

“When you are having a hard time, when you are ignored and singled out by others, and even when you have achieved success, always pray.”

He also underscores the importance of strength, perseverance, and family.

“Living away from our families is very hard, difficult, and tempting. But always be strong and pray; temptation is always around. Being an OFW is good if we focus on our goals and the reasons why we left our country. Dedication, sacrifice, and love are the keys to our success.”

Daniella Mazen M. Moustafa

Rising star balances beauty, brains, and philanthropy as Miss Manila 2024 second runner-up

At just 18 years old, Daniella Mazen M. Moustafa is already carving out a unique path for herself in the world of beauty, fashion, and philanthropy.

A multifaceted individual, Daniella balances her roles as a model, beauty queen, and student with remarkable poise and dedication. Recently declared as the Miss Manila 2024 second runnerup, she represented Tayuman in the competition and embraces this journey with a mantra that speaks volumes about her character: “To have discipline is to achieve success.”

Daniella’s life is a blend of professional commitment and personal passion.

“I am a model, a beauty queen, and also a student,” she shares with The Global Filipino Magazine.

Her journey in the beauty and modeling industry began with participation in various pageants, the most recent being the Sinulog Festival Queen competition in Cebu last January. Although she didn’t take home the crown, she emphasizes the invaluable experience and lessons she gained, which she believes have crowned her in different ways.

“The experience and the lessons I’ve learned made me a queen,” she reflects.

Beyond the glitz and glamour of pageantry, Daniella finds joy and fulfillment in extracurricular activities

that benefit others. An adventurer at heart, she loves mountain hiking and activities involving heights, which she finds exhilarating and grounding. Additionally, she actively participates in outreach programs, finding deep satisfaction in helping others and making a positive impact in her community.

Daniella’s current role as a beauty queen is something she cherishes deeply. She loves the unpredictability and the people she meets along the way.

“What I love about my career is that I get to meet unexpected people who then, as time passes by, become a huge part of my life,” she explains.

This aspect of her career fuels her passion and drives her to continue pursuing her goals with enthusiasm and dedication.

However, the journey is not without its challenges. Daniella candidly discusses the criticism beauty queens often face on social media, which can significantly impact their mental health.

“Sometimes, beauty queens get criticism on social media that affects their overall health. It is an obstacle nobody deserves to go through,” she admits.

Such negative comments can be particularly harsh, and Daniella herself has faced hurtful remarks about her skin tone.

“Comments like ‘she’s just pretty because she has pale skin’ really affect me,” she reveals.

Over time, she has learned to rise above these criticisms, developing a stronger sense of self-love and resilience.

“I learned to love and appreciate my physical appearance and not listen to comments such as that,” she says, demonstrating a maturity beyond her years.

Looking ahead, Daniella’s aspirations are as ambitious as they are inspiring. She envisions expanding her platform to reach and influence a broader audience, aiming to inspire and motivate others.

“I plan on expanding my platform more so I can reach a wider range of people to inspire and influence people,” she states with determination.

Daniella’s journey is not just about personal success but also about uplifting others. She offers heartfelt advice to her fellow kababayans, urging them to treat others with kindness and respect.

“Treat people the way you want to be treated,” she advises, a simple yet profound principle that she embodies in her daily life.

Lead singer Chito Miranda recently shared his dedication to the band on Instagram, highlighting his decision to prioritize Parokya Ni Edgar over his television commitments. “I enjoyed being a coach on The Voice Generations and a judge on Idol Philippines Season 2,” Miranda wrote. “But I am, first and foremost, the vocalist of Parokya Ni Edgar. Playing gigs is such a big part of our lives. That is who we are, and that is what we love doing.”

Miranda emphasized the importance of his commitment to the band and their fans. “Even though the TV shows were a great experience, the schedule takes too much time away from my band. I could continue doing TV shows and

make money for myself and my family, or I could prioritize our gigs instead and make enough money for everyone on our team, including their families.”

Miranda’s heartfelt message resonates with the band’s ethos of camaraderie and dedication to their craft. “In Parokya, we have more control over our schedule, unlike on TV, where you have to work around their schedule.
