about the club

One hundred and eighty rolling acres in the southern portion of Shades Valley, cupped by two ridges of Shades Mountain, watered by a winding brook, and studded with natural hazards is the place selected in 1929 as the setting for the Mountain Brook Country Club clubhouse and golf course. At the time, the vision was to have:

• A friendly club with a vibrant membership.

• A restful club, ensconced in a serene and peaceful, private setting,

• A cozy, homelike, comfortable club in which hospitable spirit and southern charm was personified in architecture and atmosphere.

• A serviceable club, to combine convenience and service of an upto-date club with the informality and charm of a country residence.

• An enjoyable club, with complete facilities for healthful outdoor recreation, diversion and pleasant social contact.

The clubhouse was built and opened for its members during 1929-30. In 1939, the Club was reorganized and its name changed to Mountain Brook Club, at the time acquiring the clubhouse, grounds, golf course and adjacent property. In 1968, the Club was again reorganized to comply with under the provisions of the Alabama Nonprofit Corporation Act.

Perhaps the most famous part of its reputation is the social activities, including a reputation for excellent food and beverage services Entertaining at the Club is a way of life for our members.
