2023 STEELERS The Steelers face a number of challenges this year as they navigate the transition from the legacy of Ben Roethlisberger to a new generation of offensive players.

Injuries and unexpected difficulties like suspensions or violations are always a concern, but the fall season also brings the opportunity for rookies and unproven players to make their mark in the NFL and have a major impact on the Steelers' results.

Let's look at some key players who will play a crucial role in the team's success this season.

Kenny Pickett Kenny Pickett is the major X-factor for the Steelers offense this season. As a rookie, he generated a lot of fanfare when he was drafted in the first round. He started the season as a backup but quickly became the starting QB. Pickett has a strong work ethic and is dedicated to his development.

However, there is always a risk of setbacks, especially considering his history with concussions. The team has invested in the offensive line to protect him, and his performance will be key to the success of the offense this year. If he can continue to progress, it bodes well for the franchise's future.

T.J. Watt T.J. Watt has had a monumental impact on the Steelers' success in the past. When he's on the field, the team has an impressive record. His presence heavily influences the team's defense, and he is undoubtedly a cornerstone of the Steelers. Even if the team finds a franchise quarterback, Watt remains the most important player this season. To keep the team successful, he will need to stay healthy and reliable week-to-week.

Cole Holcomb Cole Holcomb may seem like a surprising pick, but he showed promise as a middle linebacker for the Washington Commanders. The Steelers have struggled to find a consistent contributor in this position for the past four years. In the offseason, they brought in Holcomb and Elandon Roberts, with Holcomb expected to take on the most starting reps. He was given a new contract, but he still needs to prove his worth before the team considers other options.

Joey Porter, Jr. Joey Porter, Jr. was a highly anticipated pick in the 2023 draft. He has the potential to be an elite corner and has been making big plays during organized team activities.

While it's important to remember that evaluating players during these activities is not ideal, it's still a positive start for his career. Porter, Jr. could make a significant difference in the secondary's performance, potentially elevating it from good to exceptional.

Broderick Jones The Steelers' offensive line has been a major concern, but drafting Broderick Jones showed that the franchise is taking the issue seriously. However, reports from camp suggested that Jones is struggling to keep up with the pace of the NFL. He is a work in progress at the professional level. While there is a possibility he could start right away, going up against top pass rushers may be a reason to hold him back.

The coaches may also consider shaking up the offensive line, potentially placing Jones on the left and Moore on the right. Jones still has a lot to prove before he can be considered a starter, but his physical gifts and hard work make him a potential asset in protecting Kenny Pickett's blindside.

As hardcore Steelers fans, we all want another Lombardi trophy, but defining a successful season can be challenging for any team in a rebuiling season. While avoiding a losing record may be seen as successful by the organization, true Steelers fans have their sights set on another championship victory.

Sports Porch Prediction: Game #1 In the highly anticipated home opener between the San Francisco 49ers and the Pittsburgh Steelers, fans can anticipate an intense battle on the field. Despite the Steelers currently being in a rebuilding phase, they seem to exhibit a remarkable resilience comparable to steel itself.

Despite these things, however, we at The Sports Porch unfortunately expect Pittsburgh to be steam-rolled by at least 3 touchdowns in Game 1.

While the outlook for Game 1 might seem grim, it's crucial to remember that the football season is a marathon, not a sprint.

There's a lot of football yet to be played this year, and for the Steelers, opportunity still awaits.

From the hidden speakeasies of Prohibition to the reimagined craft cocktails of today, the journey of mixology in Pittsburgh transcends the glass, shaping both the city's social fabric and its culinary landscape.

Looking back over 100 years, the dark shadow of Prohibition cast its influence far and wide, and Pittsburgh was no exception to its effects.

In an era when the nation's thirst was quenched illicitly, the city's underbelly came to life with secret speakeasies that evaded the prying eyes of the law.

These hidden enclaves became hotspots for camaraderie, rebellion, and creative cocktail concoctions. Speakeasies certainly weren't new to Pittsburgh; in fact, a story in the June 30, 1889 edition of the Pittsburg Dispatch declared, “THE SPEAK EASIES: A PITTSBURG INVENTION.” Prohibition simply forced these institutions to get a bit more creative.

Pittsburgh’s resistance to national prohibition was so well-known that it became the stuff of legend.

The city earned the title “The drinkingest town in the west,” and politicians and bootleggers worked together to keep liquor flowing in the Steel City.

In hidden rooms, cocktails like the Old Fashioned and the Negroni took on new identities, as

innovative bartenders experimented with limited resources.

Drinks like the Fussfungle emerged from this necessary experimentation.

Developed in McKeesport, this drink sweetens a rye Old-Fashioned with burnt brown sugar and molasses.

As Pittsburgh emerged from the shadows of Prohibition, it did so with an air of sophistication that paralleled its industrial prowess.

The mid-20th century witnessed the resurgence of classic cocktails, driven by the glamour of Hollywood and the allure of mid-century design. Bars and lounges became havens of elegance, where patrons sipped martinis and gimlets against a backdrop of polished mahogany and velvet drapes.

Celebrate Pittsburgh's rich cocktail history with this simple peach cocktail recipe from Wigle Whiskey: INGREDIENTS • 2 oz Wigle Pennsylvania Peach Whiskey Steeped with 3-5 Basil Leaves and a 3″ Strip of Lemon Peel Overnight + Strained Out • 1/4 oz Simple Syrup • 3 dashes of Wigle Rosemary Lavender Bitters • Garnish: basil and dried lemon (optional) INSTRUCTIONS • Add Wigle Pennsylvania Peach Whiskey steeped with basil and lemon, simple syrup, Rosemary Lavender Bitters, and 3 dashes of Rosemary Bitters into a shaking tin with ice.

THE FOODTURE IS NOW Back To The Future is a captivating movie, capturing the hearts of generations. Back to the Foodture was a fantastic Pittsburgh restaurant, capturing the taste buds of locals and visitors alike. However, earlier this year, Hollywood drama unfolded when Universal Studios came to town and it became clear that these two institutions could not exist in the same timeline. by Elias Hanna

or the past several years, a culinary gem – formerly known as Back to the Foodture – has been delighting the taste buds and capturing the nostalgic hearts of Pittsburghers in the Southside and Uptown. It was founded by the talented culinary duo, Eddie "Barnz" Magwood and Angel Magwood.

However, earlier this year, the culinary dream team received a dramatic and unexpected ultimatum from Hollywood. In a cease and desist letter delivered to the Magwoods, the couple was demanded to deactivate all Back to the Foodture social media platforms, stop using Back to the Future branding, and change their name – or face an expensive lawsuit.

This left many asking Universal, “Where’s the beef?” Claiming a trademark infringement, the production studio, owned by NBCUniversal, a division of Comcast, brought the drama to Pittsburgh. The social media announcement from the Magwoods that all locations would be permanently closing caused an uproar among their followers and loyal customers. Citing an inability to pay for what would certainly be a financially draining legal battle or exorbitant

rebranding expenses, the couple felt they had no other choice but to shutter the doors and focus on other businesses they own and operate.

However, the Magwoods listened to the feedback of the community – some offering advice to change the name and rebrand, others outright begging the couple to keep the restaurants open.

Ultimately, they decided to continue delivering the beef – after all, they are the proud creators of the famous "Big Poppa" burger, consisting of two half-

pound patties, cheese, and bacon sandwiched between 3 glazed donuts.

In order to understand how they arrived at that decision, we must first go Back to the Foodture: founded in the small Pittsburgh suburb of Pitcairn in June 2019, the original Back to the Foodture location was the first restaurant for the Magwoods. Angel's culinary expertise heated up the grill, offering a menu boasting 76 chicken wing flavors and 15 juicy, mouth-watering hamburgers.

wrapped in bacon, grilled to perfection, and topped with 24K sauce, the new location pushed the limits of culinary creativity.

However, their culinary prowess was truly put to the test when they opened a full-service, 160-seat restaurant across from PPG Paints Arena in Uptown in January 2023.

New challenges arose due to staffing shortages and the need for lightning-speed service for customers on their way to events at PPG. The Magwoods faced those challenges head-on, scaling back their menu to create shorter wait times and better customer experiences.

These successes gave the team the confidence to expand even further - this time through franchising. After meeting with attorneys, applying for and acquiring a trademark, and starting the necessary processes to create their franchise, the Magwoods were elated that their dreams were coming true and they were looking forward to the future. But it was this very process that garnered the attention of Universal’s legal team and pulled them back into the reality of the present.

The studio claimed that the restaurant's name and graphics bore too much resemblance to their iconic Back to the Future franchise. In July, the Magwoods announced the permanent closure of both remaining locations and an end to their franchising dream.

And that was a wrap. Until it wasn’t.

Her unique layering of flavors won over the hearts of patrons.

Barnz's artistic flair adorned the restaurant with vintage decor and photos, creating a charming and inviting atmosphere that appealed to all ages. Gaining a reputation as the best wings in town, they quickly outgrew the space in Pitcairn and decided to move.

In May 2021, Back to the Foodture relocated to the Southside Works, where they continued to delight customers with an expanded menu. Building off their early success in Pitcairn, the Southside Works location offered even more: topping out at 130 wing flavors, 30 burgers, a variety of grilled cheeses, fries, hot dogs, and combos. With items like the “Snoop Dogg,” a hot dog

After an outpouring of love and support from the community, Barnz and Angel Magwood knew they had to find a way to remain open in some capacity. So they went back in time – and back to the drawing board – to quickly rebrand. They decided to close the Southside Works location in order to focus solely on the Uptown spot. With a shortened name, The Foodture now features a space decidedly absent of Deloreans and a scaled back menu devoid of Hollywood inspiration (say goodbye to the McFly and Doc Brown burgers). However, these changes don’t mean you won’t get the same great flavors and experiences as before. The Foodture is still serving up some of the best food in town.

The Magwoods have put their franchising plans on hold for now and have set their sights on a new journey: opening a mobile food truck in the next year. No word yet on whether it will require a flux capacitor to run.

While we may no longer be able to exclaim “Great Scott!” in response to a delicious meal at The Foodture, Barnz and Angel Magwood deserve a “Great Job!” for continuing to follow their dreams. | 41

Our views of beauty and the laws of attraction seem to evolve as we age, and rightfully so.

We tend to humbly accept certain aspects of aging, and others drive us to madness.

How many hairs need to turn gray before a person begins to dye their hair out of "necessity"? How many hairs are necessary to require laser hair removal? Wait—when did hair start growing there, anyway?

Though tradition and mainstream marketing lead us to believe that women are in the driver’s seat of the antiaging revolution, men have called shotgun and are patiently waiting their turn to partake. Aging features of women are often perceived as indicators that usher young women into middle age, menopause, and beyond. For men, the lines that grace their faces and the salt that graces their formerly darker locks act as a sign of wisdom and growth.

Don’t just take my word for it. When I feel fairly confident in my convictions, but feel the

need to do some due diligence to validate, I do what any highlyskilled healthcare provider with access to world-class research would do: I take a poll that includes real people, with real concerns, about real aging.

Without hesitation, the men surveyed shared a list of concerns: wrinkles, “a little more salt than pepper,” less hair in general, metabolism changes, and resultant softening body features.

Despite the dramatic differences in the way we handle aging, we all seem to be fighting the same fight.

To be fair, I also asked a handful of women what they find attractive in middle-aged men. This may come as a surprise to you, but the top three things they love come as an uncomfortable sign of aging for the opposite sex.

Described as regal, sophisticated, and mature, “a little bit of wrinkle” in the forehead and around the eyes was appreciated by many of the women polled.

patients in particular were representative of the two major age groups of men we see at Smooch. Despite an age difference of 23 years (the older patient being 73 and the younger 50), they were both looking to achieve the same goals. The difference was that the elder patient pursued non-invasive treatment for crow'sfeet lines first. The goal was to soften and reduce lines around the eyes, as opposed to creating a tight, stark appearance.

AgeJET tightened his upper and lower eyelids, and resurfaced his skin, which provided a generally smoother, cleaner look overall.

The point at which dark hair transitions to a bit of “salt and pepper” was also a fan favorite.

A chiseled jawline, which portrays a sense of strength, was another feature associated with maturity and fitness.

How do we walk the line between showcasing these features that age a man gracefully, and minimizing common characteristics of aging?

Very carefully.

I had the great honor of treating a number of men this winter at Smooch Aesthetics. Two 58 |

Botox injections, used to reduce the severity of forehead and periorbital lines, paired with AgeJET for skin tightening were an incredible solution for the younger patient. He’s hoping to slide into the start of his sixth decade looking as healthy, fit, youthful, and vibrant as he feels. His outcomes were phenomenal and resulted in profusely grateful text messages complete with ecstatic, awkward, poorly lit photos of a smoother, more rejuvenated forehead. (As a provider, those texts never get old!)

For another patient, we chose the combination of PRP injections, microneedling using AnteAge growth factors, and use of the AnteAge home hair kit to treat hair loss. Now 36, he has

noticed considerable thinning over the last five years or so. He was thrilled to have the chance to intervene, and work his way toward thicker hair to cover a classic balding pattern.

The new baby hairs that grace the top of his head are a promise of thicker hair to come. It takes time to see the progress, but he loves that he can feel more hair on the top of his head.

This patient has also enjoyed the effect of Botox when used to combat tension headaches. Just a single shot in each temporalis muscle provides months of relief from tension headaches associated with TMD (Temporomadibular joint disorder). The audible “pop” that occurs during chewing disappears, and so do the accompanying tension headaches.

The best part of the post-treatment version of these men is the confidence they carry.

All three will tell you they feel much younger when they look in the mirror, and they love what they see.

We all want to show up as the best version of ourselves. Defining the characteristics of our best selves requires a great deal of introspection, but also a good look in the mirror.

Play 1: Be the Quarterback, Not the Cheerleader It's time to shed the role of fan boy and show her that you're not content being on the sidelines. Demonstrate confidence and leadership by taking charge of your emotions and actions. Be authentic and let her see the real you, not a person trying to impress or please her constantly.
