Stafford Lions Thank Wildwood

FOR THE THIRD YEAR RUNNING STAFFORD LIONS HAVE ASKED THE RESIDENTS OF WILDWOOD, STAFFORD TO DONATE FOOD FOR THE NEEDY OF THE TOWN.

On Sunday June 24th, even though England were playing in the World Cup, members of Stafford Lions Club were out collecting, sorting and delivering the food that the kind people of Wildwood had left out.

In all 75 bags were made up, which were taken to some needy elderly people of Stafford and to young people who were starting out on their own after leaving Foster Care. There was also enough left over to take boxes to the Food Bank at Highfields.

STAFFORD FAMILY RAISE MONEY FOR LOCAL CHARITY MASE An Irish Night at the Royal Oak in Stafford raised money for local Alzheimer’s charity MASE. Tommie Heffernan from AJ Taxi’s/Kaminski’s, and his sister Teresa Alldritt, held their third fundraiser at The Royal Oak Pub in Rising Brook, Stafford, to once again support the local Charity MASE (Monthly Alzheimer’s Support Evenings). The Heffernan family lost their dear Dad to Alzheimer’s and know just how much the MASE means to Carers and their cared for attending the Groups.

The evening was full of fun and laughter, with entertainers Damian and The Arthur Dougherty Band. There was a raffle, tombola, which then ended with an Auction of some incredible signed items. At the end of the evening a cheque for £2,385.00 was presented to The MASE Charity.

The Manager of The Royal Oak, Ben Chivers, has supported the MASE now for three years and always provides an exceptional quality of the food for the night. His staff work tirelessly during the evening and, as you can imagine, were all kept very busy.

The MASE is a local non-funded Charity that offers the hand of friendship and support to Carers and their cared for who are on the Dementia journey.

Flash Ley Summer Fayre ON MONDAY THE 2ND OF JULY 2018 FROM 3:30 UNTIL 5 P.M. THE MAYOR AND MAYORESS OF STAFFORD ATTENDED THE SUMMER FAIR AT FLASH LEY COMMUNITY PRIMARY SCHOOL HAWKSMOOR ROAD STAFFORD.

On Monday the 2nd of July 2018 from 3:30 until 5 p.m. the Mayor and Mayoress of Stafford attended the summer fair at Flash Ley Community primary school Hawksmoor Road Stafford. It was a glorious sunny day and many were in attendance. The year 5 Children had previously written letters to a variety of different companies local and further afield requesting a prize for the many stalls. Children from the school the previous week had had a fancy hat day where they also brought in prizes for the fair.

These stalls included...adult tombola, children’s tombola, grand raffle, lucky dip, face painting, glitter tattoos, nail bar & guess the staff baby ... both run by the school council, hook a duck, welly wanging, hoopla, cakes, strawberries & cream, 11

mocktail refreshments, beat the goalie provided

by Stafford Rangers and guess the sweets in the Jar...we were also joined by Gentleshaw wildlife centre and birds of prey hospital from Eccleshall... and the local ice cream company.... unfortunately the fire brigade and Stafford police were not able to attend this year... the mayor and mayoress opened the event and were then shown around by Head Boy Zak Witton and Head Girl Emmie Lathe In the short time the fair was in flow we managed to raise ÂŁ651.

YOUR HEALTH Staying Hydrated The mantra of ‘drink eight glasses of water a day’ is repeated again and again as the ultimate goal for good health. But actually it’s a myth and it’s not really known where it came from. How can it be true when we are all different sizes, some of us are active and some are sedentary, and the weather may be freezing or sweltering?

Your water intake doesn’t even have to come from ‘water’.

Fruit and vegetables, soups, milk, soft drinks, even teas and coffees are all sources of fluid.

Although the obvious thing to say is to drink when you are thirsty, as we age the ability to feel thirst deteriorates. So you should be conscious of this, and particularly if you have been active in warm weather, increase your fluid intake for the rest of the day. If you feel you have become dehydrated make an effort to drink little and often. It can be dangerous to consume a very high quantity of fluid in a short time.

One of the easiest ways to tell if you need to drink more is to pay attention to your urinary habits. If it has been many hours since you last passed water and when you do go your urine is dark yellow, then it is time to increase your fluids.

Garlic Roasted Peppers MEALS IN MINUTES These colourful roasted peppers are full of Mediterranean flavours. They make a great simple starter for a dinner party or served as part of a summer buffet. To serve chilled, allow the peppers to cool completely then cover and leave in the fridge for a couple of hours.

INGREDIENTS 4 Large Red Peppers 3 Garlic Cloves peeled and thinly sliced 115g (4oz) Cherry Tomatoes halved 55g (2oz) pitted black olives 4 tbsp Olive Oil 2 tbsp Pesto 75g (3oz) Feta Cheese crumbled

METHOD Preheat the oven to 200C, 400F, Gas 6. Slice each pepper in half, cutting through the stalks and removing the seeds. Place the pepper halves, cut side up, in a shallow roasting tin.

Top with the garlic, tomatoes and olives.

Drizze over half the oil and season with salt and freshly ground black pepper. Roast for 25-30 mins until the peppers are just tender and lightly charred in places. Leave to cool for 10 minutes.

Blend the pesto with the rest of the olive oil.

Serve the warm peppers topped with the feta cheese and basil dressing. Garnish with fresh basil leaves.

Top Tip: A teaspoon of red or green chillies will add a spicy kick to your garlic roasted peppers.

Don’t believe everything they read - sometimes people don’t tell the truth and will say things to manipulate them.

•

To use their common sense; if something seems wrong or makes them feel uncomfortable, then they must tell you or another responsible adult straightaway.

Derrington Art Exhibition

ROSEMARY HALE’S ART GROUPS WILL BE HOLDING AN ART EVENT AT DERRINGTON VILLAGE HALL THROUGHOUT THE WEEKEND OF 27TH /28TH. OCTOBER 2018, 10AM TO 4PM.

As well as an exhibition of excellent artwork produced by the groups there will also be regular painting demonstrations by tutor Rosemary at 11am and 2pm.

Admission and car parking is free and homemade refreshments plus paintings and greetings cards for sale and a chocolate tombola.

Wilderness areas like the Arctic and Patagonia, plus landscapes closer to home and her heart are what Rosemary loves to paint. Her enthusiasm for art and the passion she feels for beautiful landscapes shine through in every picture and demonstration.

There are four weekly art classes currently running at Derrington on Tuesdays and Thursdays. In addition, Rosemary also tutors two more groups in North Staffordshire. All are welcome at her classes, no experience is required…just an enthusiasm for painting.
