Chillington Hall -

The hidden gem of Staffordshire Chillington Hall is a hidden gem on the Staffordshire/ Shropshire borders between the villages of Brewood and Codsall. The enchanting 18th century Georgian house, is a product of two differing Georgian styles.

The South side built in 1724 by Francis Smith of Warwick, has rooms of an intimate size contrasted with those built on a far grander scale by Sir John Soane some sixty years later. The Saloon, typical of Soane design, features a soaring ceiling topped by a great lantern with beautiful plasterwork incorporating the family coat of arms and motto.

The parkland, landscaped by Capability Brown, incorporates the magnificent lake and its architectural follies. It is accessed from a drive which runs alongside a manmade canal designed to give the impression of walking along a river bank.

Chillington Hall offers guided tours of this magnificent house and our knowledgeable guides will give you an in-depth history of this family home, its ancestors and contents.

A short walk from the Hall, through the arboretum, you will find the Chillington Model Farm. Its octagonal dovecote forms the centrepiece of an 18th century service courtyard including stables, barns, pig sties and acorn roasting house.

The Hall is also available for private hire and has been used for birthday celebrations, civil ceremonies, charity events and more recently as a filming location. Although Chillington Hall is a grand house it retains an intimate charm which makes it an ideal setting for entertaining.

Walton students’ outstanding swimming achievements Britain’s swimmers with ambitions of competing at next year’s World Championships have determined their fate at the British Swimming Championships 2015 held at the London Aquatics Centre in the Olympic pool recently. Ross Hill, aged 17, a Y13 Sixth Form student at Walton High School qualified for the 1500 Free but narrowly missed out on the time required. However, he won the 400m freestyle championship at the Regional Championships in Corby in May. He’s also been chosen for the Interdivisional National Championships representing the West Midlands and Walton High in Sunderland later this month. He will also Captain the West Midlands Team. Ross is the current County and Regional champion in 1500m!

Blessed William Howard students get bronze award at Lourdes Pilgrimage The medals were presented to the girls

by Archbishop Bernard Longley to signify their third year of volunteering with sick, frail or disabled people from across the midlands region. This was the 75th annual pilgrimage to Lourdes by the Birmingham Catholic Archdiocese.

Jess Ferguson (17) from Stafford, currently a sixth former at Blessed William Howard Catholic High School and former BWH student, Lucy Palmer (17) received prestigious Bronze Pilgrimage Awards whilst working in Lourdes, France last month.

Twelve representatives from Blessed William Howard Catholic High School attended the week long working pilgrimage to Lourdes, along with 1200 other pilgrims from the midlands. The students helped to care for the sick in the hospital and helped with cleaning, running errands and escorting the weaker patients to Mass or on short trips.

This is the third time the school has taken part in the annual pilgrimage to the French town, where in 1858 Bernadette Soubirous saw apparitions of the Virgin Mary. Lourdes is now one of the major Catholic pilgrimage sites in the world.

“I am delighted to have obtained the bronze award. “commented Jess Ferguson. “Each time I have taken part in the pilgrimage I have been moved and inspired to help out more.

It is a true privilege and honour to be in a position to do so and I hope that in the coming years I will be able to make my silver award.”
