Paper Mulberry- Sunshiny (Broussonetia papyrifera)

Suddenly, sunlight appeared. It shone on the fruit of paper mulberry (Broussonetia papyrifera) and a Japanese white-eye (Zosterops japonicus) called YouYou. With the help of sunlight, details seemed more clear. Then I could zoom images.

5. He lowered his head again and took a few bites.

6. I like his intent eyes.

7. In fact, Japanese white-eyes always jump around, and I rarely photograph their eyes clearly.

8. He took a last bite.

9. He confirmed that nothing left.

10. This was his last posture before leaving.

to be continued...

Where's the secret nest?

Leafcutting bee (Megachilidae)

If you have read my 164th and 168th reports (Please refer to Vol. 17), I think you know that this is another masterpiece of the leaf-cutting bee. However, my question is: where does her work (the nest made of rolled leaves) hide?

1. The leaves of Malabar chestnuts (Pachira aquatica) newly appear many defects on this day on my balcony in Taichung, Taiwan.

2. There is no doubt that this is another masterpiece of the leaf-cutting bee.

3. The injured leaves this time are not near the high roof. Instead, they are just next to a three-tier shelf that is used for putting a watering pitcher on my balcony.

4. I looked around for her new nest where is hiding? I only saw a few spider egg sacs on the "Insect House" I prepared. No, it was not there.

5. With a thought, I turned over the old towel spread on the shelf. Bingo! I found her secret nest.

6. There are three nests made of rolled leaves (like three Chinese cabbages, or three Japanese hand rolls) lying quietly between two layers of the towel. They look like human babies wrapped in blankets, they look so cute!

7. Just to satisfy my curiosity, I kept them in a transparent plastic box with a lid. (This is a very important step, although I didn't know it at the time.)

8. It is said that each cell contains a ball or loaf of stored pollen and a single egg. Therefore, each cell will produce a single bee.

9. The leaves of Malabar chestnuts newly appear many defects on this day on my balcony. I wish that my balcony will hatch three leafcutting bees.

This is the third ripe fruit of Paper Mulberry (Broussonetia papyrifera) in this year. The flesh seemed to be more and denser than the previous one. It was a bit cloudy in the morning, and I didn't start shooting until about ten o'clock. After waiting for a while, Japanese white-eyes (Zosterops japonicus) called Zuo-Zuo & You-You came and they were very happy. A light-vented bulbul (Pycnonotus sinensis) called A-Shou found it later...

No. 179 Ring of Fire (annular solar eclipse)

The year 2020's annular solar eclipse happened on June 21. They said: "In Taiwan, if you miss this time, you can still see the next episode after 195 years (2215.06.28).

Because Taichung was not on the direct path of annular eclipse, I just saw an incomplete "Ring of Fire". But it's OK to me. How to say? Things in the real world always happen imperfectly.

Le Voyage d'AmelieYellow Walking Iris (Trimezia steyermarkii)

9. She seems tired. She stretched her mouthparts (straw) and squeezed the floor, using her mouthparts as a trekking pole?

10. Haha, the destination is here!

Postscript: Actually Amelie doesn't like Yellow Walking Iris at all. I put her on the petals (#10). Not only did she not suck the nectar, but she was desperately trying to escape from the scene. I tried it a few times. So I took a series of photos of her escaping from the flowers. Then I reversed the order and pretended that she was going to climb up the flower.
