The leaves of a parasol leaf tree are shield-shaped, and the whole tree seems to be covered with many small umbrellas. So it can be used as a habitat for birds.
In addition, the capsules full of fleshy and soft spines contain small fruits that birds love to eat.
There are two to three fruits in a capsule.
When mature, the capsule splits and the released seeds are black and shiny.

Parasol leaf trees -2 (Macaranga tanarius)

In fact, parasol leaf trees on the balcony were not planted by me, but rather grew out from the stool left by a certain bird.
At that time, I didn't eliminate them as weeds; on the contrary, I treated them as treasures and watered them.
Today, it is one of the reasons why birds love to visit me.

The eleventh Lemon butterfly on my balcony (Papilio demoleus)

When I had the fifth one, I took a very serious shot of each step of the transformation of butterfly from a larva to an adult, which was stated in my previous reports (Vol 7, September 2022). Welcome to review.

1. A small caterpillar was on the leaf of an orange tree on my balcony in Taichung, Taiwan

2. After peeling, she had a beautiful green skin-tight garment. The caterpillar was curving.

3. The pre-pupa of butterfly fixed herself by a three-point method (two stretched silks on bilateral "shoulders" and a group of twisted silk on her tail, all are emitted from her mouth) to the branch of an orange tree and kept stationary for many hours.

4. Ten days later, then she became an adult butterfly, but still in the pupa. How do we know when it would be time for the butterfly to come out?
The secret sign is the separation of his / her body from the shell. This sign is suggestive of the butterfly will come out soon (in few minutes to half hour).

6. The mouthpart of the newly hatched butterfly: The proboscis can split in two (arrows), but fuse together into one. Thus, she can slurp liquid diet via a hollow “straw-like” cavity.

7. The size of the adult Lemon butterfly (my eleventh Papilio demoleus) was measured.

10. Two girls in the same frame on the balcony on the beautiful day.
