School of MEDICINE

Faculty of PHARMA-SCIENCE

School of Medicine

Humanity is the foundation of medicine.

Faculty of Pharma-Science

Educational Objectives

We provide a cutting edge learning environment where you will master the secret of healthcare with pharmaceuticals.

Educational Objectives

To m a s t e r t h e n e c e s s a r y s p e c i a l i z e d expertise/skills and behaviors/practices shared by the various fields of the medical/healthcare professions of tomorrow to acquire the fundamentals for life-long learning in order to become a good physician.

To leverage the attributes inherent in a medical university to carry out hands-on, pragmatic education. To provide education that fosters medical professionals who are well rounded in character, and to strive to nurture pharmacists who undertake the scientific study of medicines.

To acquire the ability and creativity to accurately understand and solve problems, thus cultivating t he fou nd at ion to a d apt to a dva ncement i n medicine/related sciences and changes in social conditions.

To fa cil it at e lea r n i ng w it h comprehe n sive curriculums.

To acquire broad perspective, the ability to make sound judgments and traits to be able to think of medicine from the perspective of not only natural sciences but in consideration of context ual spiritual/social problems.

Be a person rich in traits and character before being a physician. We strive to offer the learning environment to bring this to realization.

■We employ an effective division of classes. The first year classes on physics, chemistry, and English provide thorough instruction from the basics. ■We offer concentrated study of a few subjects in a short period time. Students learn an effective curriculum that repeats and builds upon what was taught the previous year. ■In first-year comprehensive medical exercises, third-year integrated practical training, and fourth-year clinical case exercises (PBL), students study independently in small groups and then present reports and hold discussions as a class.

Teikyo University Hospital Teikyo University Hospital, which is located on Itabashi Campus, opened a new building in May 2009. The hospital is an advanced treatment facility that includes a Critical Care Center, an ER, a General Perinatal Medical Center, and a Cardiovascular Center. The hospital serves as a place where students can receive hands-on experience in medical treatment through practical training and other programs.

Study Group on Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) ACLS are international lifesaving measures approved by the American Heart Association that are said to provide the highest survival rate. The Study Group uses simulated sit u a tio n s f ro m t h e C ritic a l C a re C e nte r to c o n d u ct symptom-appropriate practical skills training. This kind of targeted training cannot be acquired in the classroom. An individual’s survival rate drops 10% unless emergency measures are taken within the first minute. Students train so that taking action when confronted with an emergency becomes second nature. Hospital Management (Practical Training) Hands-on learning in a medical setting teaches students about the roles and connections among various jobs, as well as the importance of teamwork and communication. In addition, students learn about the Japanese medical system and nurture an insight that allows them to think about the system’s structure and discrepancies, and consider what the ideal medical system and best medical treatments would be.

■Through cutting-edge research and clinical training, we aim to cultivate attitudes as professional pharmaceutical scientists and help them develop ability to set challenges and solve problems.

Topics

●AO entrance exam, recommended entrance exam, ordinary entrance exam, National Center Test entrance exam

Selected Subjects

Multipurpose Laboratory, Faculty of Pharma-Science The Multipurpose Laboratory plays a role in practical hospital training. Located next to Teikyo University Hospital, the first-year students can simultaneously undergo preliminary studies for in-service practical training. It serves as a student-intern station during in-service practical training and helps ensure the effectiveness of the exercises. This fully stocked laboratory not only has pharmaceutical training equipment identical to those actually used in hospitals and pharmacies, but also includes a clean bench for practicing sterile techniques, sickbeds and an outpatient counter for practical instruction in medication, and multimedia terminals for practical information on pharmaceuticals.

Campus Information

Communication

Pharmaceutical training

One of the requirements for becoming a pharmacist of excellence is communicative ability. Communicative exercises given in all years of study not only foster communication skills, but also moral values and a rich sense of humanity through small group discussions, medical interviews, and on-site studies. The content level is incrementally raised to coincide with the year of study. The exercises also boost motivation to study pharmaceutical sciences.

In-service Practical Training

Practical Diagnostics

Academic Assistance

To prepare for practical clinical training, students aim to deepen knowledge of general medical examination and diagnostic skills to foster basic clinical abilities. In this practical training, students study examination methods and testing procedures for the entire body that encompass doctor-patient interviews, systemic findings, vital signs, the head and neck area, fundus oculi, the chest area, cardiac sounds, the abdomen, the nervous system, and muscle/skeletal muscles.

Education History A (Education History in Japan) In nearly all university classrooms, students enter wearing their regular footwear, but up through high school it is common for students to change shoes at the school entrance. Why does Japan have this kind of custom? The various social etiquettes regarding school and education that the Japanese have considered ordinary cannot be viewed as universal when seen from the perspective of other nations or the past. This class uses history as a point of entry in an attempt to relativize different fixed concepts and cultivate an eye for viewing education.

Curriculum and Specialized Courses: Introduction to Education I and II, Educational Research Literacy I and II, Seminar on Education A and B, and other

■ There are 2 courses offered, each with different goals. The Media Communications Course focuses on the study of mass media, and the Sociology Course studies general sociology. ■ Lessons are taught in small classes from first- to third-year students to encourage their positive and active class participation. ■ Students can acquire solid expertise through a buildup method and detailed instructions from the basics.

Selected Subject

Selected Subject

Survey Creation I and II Students will form several groups and create surveys for various topics, such as television, music, soccer, and fashion. They can demonstrate their skills by exercising their knowledge within groups to generate hypotheses about what kind of people watch television or like J-POP and western music. Students will test their hypotheses by drawing up a survey that uses precise language that is easy to respond to. This class improves teamwork and the ability to think deeply about topics.

Curriculum and Specialized Courses: English I and II, Introduction to Sociology I and II, English III and IV, Social Research Methodology I and II, Sociology Exercise I and II, Analytical Methods for Computer Data I and II, Graduation Thesis I and II, and other

Life Design Exercise I and II Students are afforded numerous opportunities to observe elementary school classes by taking advantage of the fact that Teikyo University Elementary School is located on campus. The fall semester incorporates class analysis in Life Design Exercise II. With the cooperation of the elementary school, students are able to learn (1) class analysis methods and (2) unit learning goals in advance and then observe classes. The following week, students conduct a class analysis in groups for each grade observed and report to their class. Being involved in actual classes through on-site cooperation from their first year of study allows students to experience learning that organically brings together theory and practice. Curriculum and Specialized Courses: Introduction to Education I and II, Early Childhood Education A and B, Discussion on Education for Children with Disabilities A and B, Discussion of Elementary and Middle School Education A and B, and other

Selected Subject

Nursery School Teaching Methods (Environment I and II) Practical instruction that includes growing plants and raising animals is provided because close involvement with a natural environment is an important element that encourages child development at day care facilities and kindergartens. However, there is concern that students who aspire to become childcare workers lack hands-on experiences with nature due to changes in the social environment. Therefore, this class gives students first-hand experience growing seasonal vegetables in gardens located on campus. Students grow vegetables by tilling the soil, planting seeds and seedlings, and becoming well acquainted with earth, weeds, and insects. Their efforts are rewarded when it comes time to harvest the vegetables. Curriculum and Specialized Courses: Introduction to Education I and II, Educational Research Literacy I and II, Early Childhood Education A and B, and other

Department of Psychology ■ A variety of subjects in psychology and related fields are offered to enable extensive studies. Students can also acquire qualification for certified psychologist from the  Japanese Psychological Association. ■ In the third year and above, students join one of the three courses, Basic, Developmental and Social Psychology, to pursue their own specialized studies. ■ Complete facilities and laboratories, including a behavioral development observation room attached with a monitor room, are available for them to study effectively.

You can study specialized fields such as clinical psychology while studying general psychology.

Selected Subject

Basic Research and Practical Training in Psychology The study of psychology values experimental methods to scientifically make sense of psychological occurrences. However, unlike chemistry and physics experiments, experimenting on“emotions” requires unique skills and ways of conceptualizing and viewing things. This class conducts small-group experiments and practical training to look at 8 themes, including how we view the world, how we learn new behavior, and how we conduct ourselves when we cooperate and compete with others. While studying psychology, students learn ways to conduct the essential experiment, and simultaneously analyze and examine experimental results, then summarize that information into reports. By repeating these actions, they acquire the ability to analyze data, think logically, and express themselves on paper.

Curriculum and Specialized Courses: English I and II, Introduction to Psychology I and II, English III and IV, Psychology and Statistics I and II, Special Laboratory for Psychology I and II, Laboratory for Psychology A and B, Graduation Thesis I and II, and other.

Zheng Ying Classes that have highly specialized instruction are full of new discoveries. The learning environment allows me to concentrate on my own research. The greatest advantage to studying at Teikyo University is the fact that there are many classes that offer a high degree of expertise. The teachers have a wealth of practical experience and have all studied overseas, so it is very helpful to studying international economics, not just Japan and China. In terms of campus life, there are T-SAC staff who speak Chinese, so I feel at ease because I can communicate even detailed nuances. At graduate school, I’ m studying the development process of the daytime real estate market. In the future, I’ d like to work in a job that involves the development of the Chinese economy. Data

Data
