Ask your child’s coaches or the National Federation President if they are aware of any U.S., Caribbean, Canadian or European contacts or school partnerships, prep-year placements, or past studentathletes who followed these routes. You may also consider connecting with international agencies that help Caribbean athletes place in international training academies and universities.

Optional Pathways: Canada, The Caribbean & Europe

Not every student-athlete will take the U.S. route and that’s okay. There are viable opportunities in the Caribbean, Canada, and Europe, though systems, school types, and scholarship processes may differ

Canada

Offers collegiate sports programs, though generally less competitive than the NCAA.

Strong academic transcripts are required; there is no central clearinghouse process

Athletic scholarships are less common but may be accessed through direct coach contact or school-based incentives

Explore institutions under the CCAA (Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association) or U Sports (university-level)

Jamaica & the Caribbean

Some countries offer 6th Form or post-secondary prep programs in high schools or private academies

These programs help athletes continue academic preparation and skill development before applying abroad

Limited athletic scholarships are available, but local development opportunities and partnerships may exist. Reach out to schools or federations in those countries for placement or developmental options.

Europe

Increasingly attractive for student-athletes, especially in basketball, football, and track & field.

Some universities offer sports performance or sports science-based degrees alongside competitive sports opportunities.

Academics often follow an international baccalaureate, A-Level, or GCE system, which may align with TCI student qualifications. Scholarships vary, but many programs offer subsidized tuition, sports-focused boarding academies, or pro-am club exposure. Consider exploring options in countries like Spain, Germany, the UK, the Netherlands, France, and Sweden

Many programs may also serve as a springboard to professional sports contracts or U S transfers
