Our athletes have also seen great success nationally, with Antwon Walkin breaking the Men's Discus National Record once again and defending the Bronze position at the CARIFTA Games in Grenada. The U15 Boys Football team won a bronze medal at the Concacaf Boys’ Under 15 Championship. This is the first male team to earn an international medal for the Turks and Caicos Islands in Football! LONG-TERM ATHLETE DEVELOPMENT (LTAD) PLAN IN MOTION!

A Sports Performance LTAD consultancy was sourced and the consultancy saw a 2-prong approach to training which engaged the 3-member Sports Performance team on a 3-month course that covered fundamental movement

for efficient sport performance and recovery, corrective exercise movement, and whole-body rhythmic interconnection

A condensed version was delivered via a 3-day workshop facilitated by Athletic Engineering Canada and assisted by the Sports Performance Centre. Physical Education teachers and national coaches from across the country.

We Managed the Long-Term Athlete consultancy with Dr Colin Higgs of Canada's National Sport for Life Program.

SPORT PSYCHOLOGY CLINIC IN THE WORKS TO CONTINUE LTAD TRAINING

The consultancy with Dr. Higgs, included sessions and drafting documents on guides for running National Sports Organizations with an extended Operations Manual; guide to accessing grant funding as a National Sport Governing Body or as a Local Sport Organisation; good governance guidelines for National Sport Governing Bodies; National Long-term Athlete Development overview document; Sports Specific Long-term Athlete Development overview documents with athlete Development matrix for 6 sports; Revised assessment factors and weights for assessing National Sport Governing Bodies; Grant Impact reporting template for National Sport Governing Bodies and more.

The Athlete Development Fund (ADF) managed by the Sports Commission forms a part of the its support funding. The Compliance and Support Manager chairs the ADF committee and manages the ADF grant application and processing of funds.

This consultancy will allow the Compliance and Support department to provide critical resources to the National Sport Governing Bodies to bring them up to international standards for administrative structure, strategic planning, and national development for their sport. All research and logistics for virtual and in-person sessions, including travel, for the consultancy was handled by the Compliance and Support Manager.

Sports Performance Centre

The Sports Performance Centre is responsible for ensuring that our national athletes achieve sustainable international performance through strength and conditioning, speed and agility and recovery and rehabilitation programmes.

Athletes’ development is key to achieving our goal of developing podium athletes that can perform at international standards and achieve success.

The centre works along with schools and NSGBs to identify top talent in all sports discipline and provide direct training in the area of sports performance. The centre also leads in the fitness component

of Let’s Move TCI, providing exercise training for hundreds of residents.

There was a nationwide Sports Performance Summer Camp in conjunction with the programmes department. The camp’s goals were to: Improve basic fundamental movement skills, Correct exercise movement, Introduce a higher level of structured training, Promote Teamwork skills, and Boost confidence level.

Sports Performance Centre programme averages over one thousand athletes attending daily training sessions in multiple sport disciplines.

Since its launch we raised funds to support 26 athletes across five different disciplines including Track and Field, Swimming, Basketball, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Football. The funds went towards training, competitions, equipment and nutrition. These athletes have all been supported which resulted in broken National records, new personal bests and podium positions.

The ADF was also able to support the Teacher's FC College ID Camp, landing scholarship offers for 8 male and female football athletes, to the tone of over $225k.

Let's Move TCI

Let's Move TCI is a multi-partnership with the Ministry of Health where the programme attracts hundreds of ‘in person’ participants and over a thousand participating virtually.

This programme offers meal planning, community and virtual workout sessions, health talk series in an intensive 12-week structure.

We engaged with most public and private schools with our school tours, reaching hundreds of students and having a significant impact on the youths of the Turks and Caicos Islands.

Felix Morley Community Centre

There is a growing interest in sport participation and a growing need for sustainable youth engagement as a means of curbing youth crime and deviance as well as developing a base for talent identification and long-term athlete development.

This partnership between the Sports Commission and the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force aims to acheive these goals.

We facilitate 16U Girls Softball and 13U and 16U Boys Basketball on over average hosting approximately 200 participants a year. We saw an increase in number of female participants registering in softball, which is promising for growing the interest in sports among girls.

Field and 'Drillz and Skillz' Basketball with the Edward C. Gartland Youth Centre and Coach Don Kelbick.

The Felix Morley Community Centre recently re-opened under the management of the TCI Sports Commission. Since then we have engaged over one hundred youth and adults daily at the Felix Morley Community Centre in various programme offerings.

The programmes offered have included

Dance (Youth), Yoga (Youth), Boxing (Youth), Basketball (Youth), Karate (Youth), Rugby (Youth), Zumba Aerobics (Adults), Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (Youth).

Project I.D.E.A. Media Club

In two installments, Project I.D.E.A. saw approximately 40 students tutored in a year. We partnered with private sector professionals Renau Destine, Samuel Jules, and Rodney Rigby to offer photography, videography, journalism, and cinematography classes up to three days a week. In turn, we produced a short film and mini-documentary. In addition, a plethora of events were captured by the photography students.

Students from the programme will be attending university to study marketing and filmmaking, using the content captured in their classes in their portfolios. The introduction of this program has increased options for sports media, training local camera operators, on-screen talent, and photographers which was difficult to find in the past. As they are all entry-level, the program will continue to finetune their expertise.
