Our writers, Cyann and Molly, are new to the industry too, but both can’t wait to get stuck in. Molly is looking forward to meeting all our valued readers and advertisers at StocExpo next year, but first, she’ll be at the Sprint Robotics World Conference (check page 72 for a preview of what’s on offer) in September.

I look forward to meeting you all, Best wishes,
And, boy, is it an exciting time to be working in this sector. In particular, I’m really looking forward to seeing how industry responds to the need for cleaner fuels – if you’re at the World Hydrogen Congress in Rotterdam this October, please find me and say hello!
What we’re all discovering is that the tank storage sector is changing rapidly. From new terminals and pipelines being agreed daily to movements towards the energy transition, there’s certainly never
and Anamika
a dull day. ‘It’s a huge industry and I have already learnt so much in just a few weeks,’ says Molly.

And where better to discover industry innovations than in this jam-packed issue of Tank Storage Magazine? We’ve got the latest in terminal technology, technical features, plus plenty of breaking news on the website. We’ve got an exclusive interview with Oiltanking MOGS, explaining what sets their South Africa terminal apart from the rest of the world (page 30). Plus, Andrés Suárez from Exolum reveals the key to the awardwinning Spanish terminal (page 32). And don’t miss our exclusive analyses from FETSA (page 34) and Port of AntwerpBruges and the North Sea Port (page 36).
IT’S BEEN a whirlwind few weeks at Tank Storage Magazine. Our editorial team has grown with a brand new editor (myself) and two new writers who have been busy producing this issue of the magazine, complete with our chemical storage supplement.
Meanwhile, AntwerpXL is just around the corner, and English literature graduate Cyann is being thrown right into the heart of what we do at TSM. ‘I’m very excited about travelling the world, and meeting some of the most important individuals and groups in the sector,’ she says.

Xycle has been working on its recycling process for 14 years. Non-mechanically recyclable plastic waste is heated in the absence of oxygen, which causes it to break down and depolymerise rather than burning. Currently, less than a quarter of plastic waste can be recycled mechanically, with the rest landfilled, dumped, or burned. The Xycle plant is self-supporting, running on the fuel produced by the machine itself. The CO 2 emissions are significantly lower than if the plastic waste is burned.

Dutch terminal company VTTI and the European Green Hydrogen Acceleration Center (EGHAC) are to jointly develop large-scale domestic hydrogen production and import facilities in major European ports.
EGHAC was founded and is run by sustainable energy investor EIT InnoEnergy to help companies derisk and accelerate green hydrogen, ammonia, methanol, and aviation fuel projects through early stage investment. EIT InnoEnergy is the world’s largest investor in sustainable energy innovations and is backed by the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT).
The facility includes three supply tanks to store 1,200 m 3 of aviation kerosene (JET A-1), a new road tanker unloading area for the receipt of external products, four automated road tanker loading racks (three for JET A-1 and one for AVGAS), a new parking area with capacity for ten into-plane fuelling vehicles and new roads. It is connected to Exolum’s La Muela-Zaragoza pipeline by a 400 m, 6” (15 cm) diameter connecting branch, reinforcing the security of supply, reducing CO 2 emissions and eliminating the need to transport fuels by road.

Under the plans, the salt caverns will be linked to the UK gas grid with a hydrogenready pipeline capable of handling 28 million m 3 of gas daily, the equivalent of a seventh of current estimated UK daily natural gas consumption.
Naftogaz, which carries out exploration and development activities, production and exploration drilling, oil and gas storage, and oil products, natural gas and liquefied gas processing and distribution, has been seeking to diversify its energy supplies and move to green energy as part of Ukraine’s decarbonisation efforts. Meanwhile, the new MoU helps to advance the Canadian’ government’s pledge to help Europe address its energy crisis and diversify LNG supplies.
