EGYPT PLANS NEW PETROLEUM STORAGE IN EL-TEBBIN

Egypt’s petroleum ministry has moved to establish a new crude and petroleum product storage and transport zone in the El-Tebbin area of Greater Cairo, Egypt.

In a meeting on 12 June 2022, ministers met to discuss plans for the first storage and heating terminal in the zone which will be developed by Egypt Petroleum Pipeline Company. The estimated cost of the new facility is EGP 1.8 billion (€91.3 million). The facility will be the first on a 1,000 acre (400 ha) site, which is also expected to host companies such as Petrojet, Petrogas, Misr Gas, Al-Haditha Gas, and Al-Taawon Petroleum. The new zone will be used for the movement of petroleum products from and to Upper Egypt, and support the import and export of petroleum products. Egypt is already a well-established regional petroleum trading hub and over the past six years has worked to expand its reach through expansions and new projects. The committee also discussed ongoing development and modernisation work in the oil region in Mostorod, where a regional committee headed by the Cairo Petroleum Refining Company plans to increase the current storage capacity of crude and petroleum products such as gasoline, diesel, diesel and jet fuel. The new capacity will serve refineries and consumption areas in Greater Cairo.

BROOGE SETS UP RENEWABLES SUBSIDIARY

Midstream company Brooge Energy, which runs a terminal in Fujairah, UAE, has formed Brooge Renewable Energy (BRE) to capitalise on the growing demand for green and renewable energy products for the energy transition.

BRE is planning to develop a green hydrogen and ammonia plant in Kizad, Abu Dhabi, UAE, which will produce 300,000 tpa of green ammonia once complete. The company has signed a signed a preliminary land lease agreement for the facility for a 150,000 m2 plot with sea access, allowing for easy export of the products. ‘This new facility is a significant milestone for the company’s clean energy strategy. We are entering into this market segment that has excellent growth potential. Shifting power generation to renewable sources is a key pillar of global efforts to reach carbon neutrality and we believe green hydrogen, which has significantly lower carbon emissions than grey hydrogen, is a key part of this process. We are proud to be one of the first companies in the UAE that has announced that it will be constructing and operating this type of infrastructure that will be solely powered by renewable resources,’ says Nicolaas Paardenkooper, CEO of Brooge Energy.
