Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) has started construction of two oil storage tanks to stock petrol that’s transported via a crossborder pipeline system at its Amlekhgunj depot. The extended storage capacity and optimum use of the petroleum pipeline are expected to check pilferages in petroleum import that has been causing a huge financial loss to NOC.

Comment:

NOC is also constructing 24 loadingfilling sets, equipped with an advanced technology, to load and unload petroleum products in tankers.

Gujurat, India

INOXCVA

Products: Bulk liquid hydrogen storage tank Capacity: 238m3

Construction/Expansion/Acquisition:

NOXCVA, an Indian multinational, among the world’s leading manufacturers of cryogenic equipment and solutions, has waved off the largest bulk liquid hydrogen storage tank ever made in India. The tank has left INOXCVA’s Kandla facility in India to a clean energy demonstration project in South Korea.

Port of Rotterdam, Netherlands

HORISONT ENERGI

Products: CO2 Terminal

Construction/Expansion/Acquisition:

Horisont Energi, a Norwegian clean energy company, and Koole Terminals, a leading independent liquid bulk storage company, have announced plans to develop a new CO2 terminal in the Port of Rotterdam. The terminal and storage facility will handle both clean ammonia and CO2.

Products: Green hydrogen import terminal

Construction/Expansion/Acquisition:

Air Products and Gunvor subsidiary Gunvor Petroleum Rotterdam have signed a joint development agreement for a green hydrogen import terminal in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. The partners say that the agreement is in response to growing demand for green energy sources to meet climate objectives, including the EU’s Fit for 55 legislation.

Comment:

Air Products and Gunvor expect the terminal to be operational in 2026.

SHELL

Products: Green hydrogen plant

Construction/Expansion/Acquisition:

Shell has taken the final investment decision (FID) to build what will be Europe’s largest green hydrogen plant, Holland Hydrogen I, on Maasvlakte 2 in the Port of Rotterdam, the Netherlands. The 200 MW electrolyser will be powered by the offshore wind farm Hollandse Kust (noord) and Shell expects it to be operational in 2025.

Comment:

‘Renewable hydrogen will play a pivotal role in the energy system of the future and this project is an important step’ says Anna Mascolo, executive vice president, emerging energy solutions at Shell.

Antwerp, Belgium

NNOAT

Products: Stainless steel storage tanks Capacity: 35,000 m3

Construction/Expansion/Acquisition:

Noord Natie Odfjell Antwerp Terminals (NNOAT) has officially opened its new tank pit T, with a capacity of 35,000 m3, at the Leopold Dock in Antwerp, Belgium, as well as a new pipeline rack and jetty. The total capacity of NNOAT, which stores base oils, commodity products and specialty chemicals, now stands at 425,000 m3 .

Comment:

The new tank pit is supported by the new pipeline rack and jetty at quay 253. This extra infrastructure allows for further expansion work in the future.

Greater Cairo, Egypt

EGYPT PETROLEUM PIPELINE COMPANY

Products: Crude and petroleum product storage Cost: EGP 1.8 billion (€91.3 million)

Egypt’s petroleum ministry has moved to establish a new crude and petroleum product storage and transport zone in the El-Tebbin area of Greater Cairo, Egypt. The first storage and heating terminal in the zone which will be developed by Egypt Petroleum Pipeline Company. The estimated cost of the new facility is EGP 1.8 billion (€91.3 million).

Comment:

The new capacity will serve refineries and consumption areas in Greater Cairo.

SEMPRA AND CFE

Construction/Expansion/Acquisition:

Sempra Infrastructure has signed agreements with Mexico’s Federal Electricity Commission (Comisión Federal de Electricidad, CFE) to jointly develop two LNG terminals. The terminal will have a liquefaction capacity when completed of 4 million tpa, 180,000 m3 of LNG tankage and an LNG jetty.

Comment:

The development projects will provide additional sources of LNG for isolated Mexican markets and expand LNG supplies to global markets.

Louisiana, US

UNITED ENERGY

Products: Greenfield bulk liquid storage

Construction/Expansion/Acquisition:

US oil and gas company United Energy (UNRG) has bought Integrity Terminals, which is planning a greenfield bulk liquid storage, import and export facility in Louisiana, US. The site is strategically located on the Mississippi River in Louisiana’s Gulf Coast area, which connects US oil and gas suppliers with domestic and international markets.

Comment:

As part of the deal, UNRG has also acquired an option to buy 686 acres of land in Iberville, Louisiana, subject to due diligence and permitting approvals.

Callao, Peru

SOLGAS

Products: LPG tank Cost: US$15 million (€14.7 million)

Construction/Expansion/Acquisition:

Peruvian LPG company Solgas has commissioned a third LPG tank at its Ventanilla Terminal in Callao, Peru, which has increased capacity at the site by 40%. The company invested US$15 million (€14.7 million) in the new tank, which takes the total capacity of the terminal to 16,600 tonnes.

Comment:

Work on the tank was carried out by CB&I and Cafisac.

Gijon, Spain

ENAGÁS

Products: LNG tanks Capacity: 300,000 m3

Construction/Expansion/Acquisition:

Spain’s Ministry of Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge has granted administrative authorisation to Enagás for the star-up of its El Musel LNG terminal. The regasification plant, in Gijón has a regasification capacity of 300,000 m3 . Enagás says that the terminal will contribute to Europe’s energy security as the continent seeks to reduce dependence on Russian gas.

Comment:

‘More than 100 LNG carriers a year can be unloaded and loaded at the Gijón terminal, which represents a contribution of up to 8 billion m3’ says Gonzalo, Enagás CEO.

Mangalore, India

EPSILON

Products: Molten pitch storage Capacity: 10,000 tonnes

Construction/Expansion/Acquisition:

Indian company Epsilon Carbon, a manufacturer of coal tar derivatives, has signed an agreement with Sri Anagha Refineries to build a 10,000 ton molten pitch storage facility. It will have access to a port facility with a draught of 14 m, capable of handling vessels up to 100,000 DWT.

Comment:

The company is targeting revenue of $300 million (€300 million) in the next five years.

Wilhelmshaven, Germany

UNIPER

Products: LNG tanks Capacity: 7.5 billion m3

Construction/Expansion/Acquisition:

Construction on Wilhelmshaven LNG terminal in Germany can officially begin, after developer Uniper received approval for an early start from the State Trade Supervisory Authority Oldenburg. The terminal will use floating storage and regasification units (FSRUs) and will handle up to 7.5 billion m3 of LNG, around 8.5% of Germany’s needs.

Comment:

Germany is seeking to fast-track LNG projects to replace Russian gas imports and pile-driving work at the terminal’s site began in May 2022.

Kuwait, Asia

AL ZOUR LNG TERMINAL

Products: LNG tanks Capacity: 225,000 m3

Construction/Expansion/Acquisition:

Spanish turnkey energy engineering contractor Duro Felguera has completed construction work on eight LNG tanks at Kuwait’s Al Zour refinery. Each tank has a diameter of 96 m and a height of 45 m, with a capacity of 225,000 m3. The work has been carried out over the past six years by Felguera-IHI.

Comment:

Following the successful completion of performance tests in 2022, the plant is now fully operational.

Peñuelas, Puerto Rico

PUERTO RICAN LNG TERMINAL

Products: LNG loading terminal Capacity: 427.3 million litres

Construction/Expansion/Acquisition:

US supply chain company Crowley has inaugurated a state-of-the-art LNG loading terminal in Peñuelas in Puerto Rico. The facility will supply more than 94 million gallons (427.3 million L) of LNG to industrial and commercial operators in Puerto Rico, Central America and the Caribbean.

Comment:

Port of East London, South Africa

WASAA

Products: Fuel import terminal

Construction/Expansion/Acquisition:

BP Southern Africa has sold its East London Terminal in the Port of East London, South Africa, to Wasaa, an independent petrochemical logistics and trading company owned by black women. Wasaa’s management team has more than 50 years of combined experience in the manufacturing and distribution of gas, fuels, and chemicals.

Comment:

BP Southern Africa CEO Taelo Mojapelo adds: ‘This infrastructure transaction is an important contribution by BPSA towards the country’s efforts of empowering black and women entrepreneurs in the energy sector’.
