OurupperschoolathleticteamsareproudmembersoftheInterscholasticAssociationofSoutheastAsian SchoolsConference,consistingofsixschoolsthatcompetein13sportsforboysandgirlsoverthreeseasons. OurteamsrepresentourprogramswellinIASASexchangesandchampionshipsannually.Wearehopefulin resumingIASAScompetitionsandwinningchampionshipsthisyear!Iinviteallparentsandstudentsto attendourgames,includingthosethattakeplaceoff-island.

Ourmiddleschoolathleticsprogrammirrorstheupperschoolprogramsinofferingsandspansoverthree seasons.WeofferseparateprogramsforGrade6andGrades7&8.Thisprovidesgreaterparticipation opportunities,andouryoungstudent-athletescantrynewanddifferentsportstoroundouttheirsports experience.

Weareveryfortunatetohaveastate-of-the-artTigerHealth&WellnessCenterwithahighlyexperienced anddedicatedstafftoassistourupperschoolstudent-athleteswithstrengthandconditioning.Ourqualified andexperiencedsportsmedicinestaffprovidesourstudents-athleteswithfirst-ratepreventativeservices, sportsinjuryrehabilitation,andmyriadofotherfirstresponderservices.Student-athleteinjuryprevention, safety,andwelfarearehighprioritiesandourathletictrainersprovideexcellentcoverageforall TAS practicesandcompetitions.

I.INTRODUCTION

TheTaipeiAmericanSchool(TAS)AthleticsStudent-Athlete/ParentHandbookisareferenceguide forstudent-athletesandparentsconcerningthepoliciesthatgoverninterscholasticathleticsat TAS. Soundreasoning,goodjudgmentandadherencetotheschool’scorevaluesofHonesty,Respect, Responsibility,KindnessandCouragewillbethestandardbywhichsituationsoutsidethesestatedrulesand regulationsaredeterminedandevaluated.

ParticipationintheTASathleticprogramisvoluntary;thus,competitioninathleticsisaprivilegeand notaright.Withthisprivilege,thestudent-athleteisexpectedtoconformtothehighstandardsoftheathletic program.Thisprivilegemayberevokedifthestudent-athletefailsorrefusestocomplywiththespiritofthe rules,policiesandprocedures.

II.TASPHILOSOPHYOFATHLETICS

ThefundamentalprincipleforcompetitiveathleticsatTASisservingtheeducationofthestudent. Athleticspromotesandsupplementstheregularcurricularprogramatschool.Ourconcernisthepersonal developmentofeachstudent-athlete,andeventhoughwinningisimportant,thecoach’sprimaryinterestis thestudent-athletes’personalgrowthandemotionalstability Withthisinmind,eachcoachshouldmake everyattempttoinstillthefollowinginourstudent-athletes: a)thecompetitiveurgetoexcel b)thecommitmenttobethebestthattheycanbe c)theacceptanceofofficials’decisionswithoutargument d)anunderstandingoftheirsport e)theloveandrespectfortheirsport f)ahighsenseofhonor,dutyandethicalcharacterthatisnecessaryforteamplay g)theknowledgethatparticipationisitsownreward,andthespecialprivilegesforparticipantsare nottobeexpectedorcondoned h)acooperativespirit i)asenseofrepresentingtheircommunity

III.CONFERENCEAFFILIATION

TAScompetesinterscholasticallyasamemberoftheInterscholasticAssociationofSoutheastAsian Schools(IASAS)alongwithInternationalSchoolBangkok(ISB),theInternationalSchoolofKuala Lumpur(ISKL),InternationalSchoolManila(ISM),JakartaInterculturalSchool(JIS),andSingapore AmericanSchool(SAS).TASalsocompetesagainstlocal andotheron-islandandoff-islandinternational schools.

IV.MESSAGETOPARENTS

ParentsarevitaltotheTASathleticsprogram.Theseguidelinesareprovidedtoyoubecauseyourson ordaughterhasindicatedadesiretoparticipateinTASinterscholasticsportsandyouhaveexpressedyour willingnesstopermithim/hertocompete.Astudentwhoelectstoparticipateinathleticsismakingachoice ofself-disciplineandgoodtraininghabits.Participationinsportsprovidesawealthofopportunitiesand experienceswhichassiststudentsinpersonalgrowthanddevelopment.

Bothparentingandcoachingareextremelychallengingvocations,andthepartnershipbetween parentsandcoachesisakeydynamictotheoverallgrowthexperienceofastudent-athlete.Byestablishing anunderstandingofeachposition,wearebetterabletoaccepttheactionsoftheotherforthebenefitofthe student-athlete.Asparents,whenyourchildrenbecomeinvolvedinourprogram,youhavetherightto understandtheexpectationsthatareplacedonyourchild.Thisbeginswithclearcommunicationfromyour student-athlete’scoach.

A. Coach/ParentRelationships

Ourcoachesareexperienced,professionaleducators.Theyusetheirexperienceandexpertise tocoachyoungmenandwomenandarerequiredtomakejudgmentdecisionsbaseduponevaluation ofpracticeperformanceandwhattheybelievetobeinthebestinterestofallthoseintheirprogram. B. HousingRequirements(UpperSchoolOnly)

Anessentialaspectofbeingpartofaninternationalathleticsprogramishostingexchanges (competitions/tournaments)withourIASASfamilyofschoolsaswellasotherinternationalschools. WhenTAShostsanexchange/IASAStournament,TASreliesexclusivelyontheTAScommunityto providehousingforvisitingstudent-athletes.Thisisreciprocatedwhenourstudent-athletestravelto otherexchanges/IASAScompetitionsites.Allstudent-athleteswhoparticipateinathleticseach seasonarerequiredtohouseatleasttwovisitingstudent-athletesduringthatsameseason.Any student-athletewhodoesnothostinthatseasonwillberequiredtohostinadifferentseasonduring thesameacademicyear.Ifstudent-athletesareunabletohouse,theyarerequiredtoprovidean alternatehostfamilypriortotheendoftryouts.Failuretocomplywiththehousingagreementwill resultintheimmediateremovalofthestudent-athletefromatryoutorateam.Thestudent-athlete willnotreceivecreditforparticipation,andthestudent-athletewillnotqualifyforawards,athletic letters,orcertificates.

Theaccommodationsdonotneedtobefancyorspecial.Hostsarenormallyexpectedtoprovide breakfastanddinnerorlightsnacks,aplacetosleep,andtransportationtoandfromtheschool.Per IASASrules,thereisacurfeweachnightat9pm,oronehourafterthefinalevent/activity Without yoursupport,IASASeventsandexchangeswouldnotbepossible.[SeeAppendix3Housing]

C. TravelExpenses(UpperSchoolOnly)

ParentscanexpecttopayuptoNT$30,000foreachtripiftheirchildisselectedtoparticipateon atravelexchangeand/oranIASASchampionshipteam.TASwillcovercostsaboveNT$30,000if thesituationarises. Student-athletes may NOT travel on their Taiwan passports. On any school trip, all travel must be under the student’s foreign passport (passportonrecordwiththeTAS admissionsoffice).IfthepassportdoesnothaveanactivevisaforTaiwanoranAlienResident Certificate(ARC),anoutboundticketwillbebookedbytheathleticsofficeinordertoexpedite thereturntravel.Ifstudentsarein-countryonaTaiwanpassport,avisarunwillbenecessary priortotravel.NostudentwillbeallowedtotravelonaschooltripusingtheirTaiwan passport.Violationsofthisrulewilljeopardizeastudent’sabilitytotravelonfuturetrips. Student-athletes must travel with a valid ARC OR valid visa and MUST use their foreign passport

that has at least six months’ validity to DEPART and ENTER Taipei

on official school trips

Individualfamiliesareexpectedtoobtainanyvisasthatarerequiredforaparticulartrip.Once notifiedofselection,travelparticipantsarerequiredtoturnintheirpassportsandARCsimmediately totheathleticdepartmentinordertoidentifyanyissueswellinadvanceoftraveldates. Parents mustsigntheacknowledgmentforminorderforyourchildtotravel Thisformisavailablein Appendix5andisalsoviewableviatheFormspageoftheathleticswebsite.

D. PTABoosterClub

TheTASPTABoosterClubisanorganizationofvolunteerparentsofstudentsandother membersofthecommunitywhoareinterestedinprovidingTASstudent-athletesagreatathletics experience.Allteamsbenefitfromtheclub'ssponsorshipofthefollowingactivities:

2.OperateconcessionswiththeAthleticsCouncil

3.Conductpostseasonwrap-upsocials

V.MESSAGETOSTUDENT-ATHLETES

Youoweittoyourselftogetthemostfromyourschoolexperiences.Yourforemostresponsibilities aretobroadenyourselfanddevelopstrengthofcharacter.Youassumealeadershiprolewhenyouareonan athleticteam.Thestudentbody,theschoolcommunity,aswellasthelocalcommunityjudgeourschoolby yourconductandattitudedisplayedwhenyouareparticipatingonasportsteam.Thisleadershiprole providesyouanopportunitytocontributegreatlytoschoolspiritandcommunitypride.Youarearolemodel, especiallyforyoungerstudents.Remembertosetagoodexample.

A. CODEOFCONDUCT/SPORTSMANSHIP

TheTASvaluesofHonesty,Respect,Responsibility,KindnessandCourageserveasthe bedrockforourstudent-athletes’conductinallaspectsoftheirathleticsexperience.Itisimportant thataTASstudent-athlete’sbehaviorisabovereproachatschool,intheclassroom,andduring competition—thisisespeciallyimportantforthosewhoearntheprivilegetorepresentTASatother hostIASASschools.Allstudent-athletesshouldtreateveryonetheycomeincontactwithatschool withrespect;thisincludestheathleticdepartmentadministrativestaff,facilitiesmanagers,andthe custodialstaff.

ParticipationinTASathleticsprogramsisaprivilege,notaright.Toearnthatprivilege, administrators,coaches,andstudent-athletesmustconductthemselvesaspositiverolemodelswho exemplifygoodcharacterinamannerconsistentwiththefollowingprinciplespreceding,during,and followingathleticsevents:

Taipei American School expects spectators at athletic events to adhere to the highest standards for good sportsmanship; all spectators must be respectful of players, coaches, officials, and other spectators. We encourage applause and cheering, but we prohibit critical or derogatory comments made to anyone involved in the event. We believe that the game itself should be left to the

players, coaches, and officials, and place great importance on the principles of sportsmanship and the ideal of pursuing victory with honor

Exhibit respect and courtesy toward all participants, including opposing student-athletes and coaches, and officials;

Exercise restraint in your actions, both physical and verbal, towards other participants; Comment about other institutions, coaches, and student-athletes only in a positive manner; Refrain from making public comments critical of officials or the quality of their work.

Failuretofollowthesestandardscouldresultinapenalty,asprescribedbytheUS/MS Administration,AthleticDirector,and/orIASAS.

B. MISCELLANEOUS

1. Initiations/Hazing/Bullying

Student-athletesareexpectedtobeleadersandmentorsforyoungerstudents.Initiationrituals, hazing,andbullyingarenotacceptableandwillnotbetolerated.Weexpectourstudent-athletesto leadbyexampleandleaveapositivelegacyduringtheirtimeatTAS.

2. Lockerroomconduct

Studentsecurityandsafetyinthelockerroomfacilityareprioritiesofthecoachingstaff.Each student-athleteisresponsibleforassistinginkeepingthelockerroomareaclean,safe,andsecure.

•Lockerroomusersareexpectedtobemindfulofsafetyatalltimes.

•Lockandre-checkyourlockerbeforeleavingthelockerroom.

•Wheneverpossible,donotsharelockersorshareyourcombinationwithanyotherperson.

•Reportanymissingitemstoyourcoachoradministratorimmediately

•Cleanyourareaasyouleaveeachday

•Treatthefacilitywithrespect.

3. SocialMedia

Student-athletesareremindedtoalwaysusegoodjudgmentwhenusingsocialmedia.Think twicebeforepostingonFacebook,Twitter,orothersocialmediaplatforms.Anindividual’sonline behaviorshouldreflectthesamestandardsofrespectthatonewoulduseface-to-face.Socialmedia venues,includingblogsandphoto-andvideo-sharingsites,areverypublic;whatyoucontribute leavesadigitalfootprint.Donotpostanythingyouwouldn'twantfriends,enemies,parents,teachers, orafutureemployertosee.

Reportanyinappropriateuseofsocialmedia—includingcyberbullyingandharassment—toa coach,teacheroradministratorimmediately

VI.UNIFORMSANDEQUIPMENT

Alluniforms/equipmentissuedtostudent-athletesisownedbyTAS.Pleasetreatour uniforms/equipmentwithrespect.Uniformsmayshrink,fade,orbleedcolorifwashedinhotwater.In addition,ourlogos,numbers,andscreensmaycrackandpeeloffiftemperaturesettingsforwashingand dryingaretoohot.Therefore,donotwashuniformsinhotwaterandavoiddryingonhottemperature settings.Pleasewashuniformsincoldwaterandhangtodry.Besuretoreadthetagsontheclothfor washinganddryinginstructions.Whenindoubt,speaktothecoachbeforelaunderinguniforms.Ifthe uniformneedstobereplaced,thestudent-athletewillbeexpectedtopayforthereplacementitem.

Itistheresponsibilityofthestudent-athleteto personallysignoutandreturnallschoolissued equipmenttotheircoachattheendoftheirseason.Allteamuniformsandequipmentaretobereturnedtothe coachimmediatelyafterthelastpractice,contest,orscheduledmeetingbythecoach.Student-athletesshould nevergivetheirschoolissuedequipmentoruniformtoanyoneelsetoreturnforthem.Coacheskeep accuraterecordsofschoolissuedinventory,andifthereareanyitemsnotreturnedattheendoftheseason, thestudent-athletewillbeplacedonanindebtedlist.Student-athletesarenotpermittedtokeeptheir uniformsattheendofaseason.Athleticuniformsarecostlytoreplace,andmanyofouruniformsarecustom madeandcannotbematched.Student-athleteswhoareindebtedwillnotbeissuedanyotherschooluniform orprotectiveequipmentforanothersportseasonuntiltheycleartheirindebtednesswiththecoachorathletic office.Iftheuniformislost,altered,orruined,thestudent-athletewillbeheldresponsible atthe replacementcostofNT$4000(forany/allofauniformset).Coacheswillalsobeinstructedtowithhold the presentationofathleticawardsuntilthemissingitemsofinventoryhavebeenreturnedorpaidfor Seniors willnotbeissueddiplomasandcap/gownsforgraduationceremonyuntilalloutstanding equipment/uniformshavebeenreturnedormonetarilyreimbursed.

Uniformsmustcoverundergarments;spandexmustbethesamecolorastheuniform.Hatsand/or headbandsshouldbeofauniformcolorandconsistentwithteammates.Headcoacheswilldetermine appropriatepracticeattire.Allstudentsmustdressindesignatedareasandnotinpublic.Allathletic departmentuniforms,gear,andequipmentwilladheretotheTASAthleticsStyleGuide[SeeAppendix4 TASStyleGuide].

VII.SPORTSMEDICINE

Thesportsmedicineteamiscomposedofthreecertifiedathletictrainers(ATs)whoseresponsibilities aretoprovidecomprehensiveandaccessiblehealthcaretostudent-athletes.Athletictrainersarehighly qualified,multi-skilledhealthcareprofessionalswhocollaboratewithphysicianstoprovideprimarycare, injuryandillnessprevention,wellnesspromotionandeducation,emergentcare,examinationandclinical diagnosis,therapeuticinterventionandrehabilitationofinjuriesandmedicalconditions.Athletictrainersare consideredoneofthemanymedicalprofessionalsthatmakeupthemultidisciplinaryteamapproachtosports medicine.TheTASSportsMedicineteamaimstooptimizethesafety,health,andperformanceofall student-athletesandsportsteams.Intheeventofastudent-athleteinjury,theATswillbethefirstlineof defenseandwillbetheonlypersonneltomakereturntoplaydecisions.Iftheinjuryisaconcussion,theTAS concussionmanagementprotocolwillbeactivated.

Aconcussionaffectsnotjustastudent-athlete’sathleticparticipation,butalsoacademicparticipation andoverallwell-being.Forthesereasons,TAShasadedicatedandspecializedteamoffaculty,the ConcussionManagementTeam(CMT),tosupportstudentswhohavesufferedaheadinjuryorconcussion throughouttheirrecovery.TheCMT’spurposeistooversee,manage,andguideaninjuredstudentthrougha

TheTigerHealthandWellnessCenterisopenonlytoTASstudentsandfaculty Therearetwo strengthandconditioningcoachesonstaff.Allusersmustcompleteanorientationandsafetybriefingwith thestrengthstaffpriortousingthefacility.Student-athletesarehighlyencouragedtousethefacilitiesduring allhoursofoperation,whicharepublishedontheFacilitiespageoftheathleticssite.

IX.ACADEMICRESPONSIBILITIES

a)An“F”inanyclassexcludesanstudent-athletefromallparticipation(subjecttoadminreview)

X.TRYOUTS/TEAMROSTERS

Individualswhoplantotryoutforateammustmakeeveryefforttobeatthefirstdayoftryouts.In thecaseofextenuatingcircumstances,individualsneedtonotifythecoachandAthleticDirectorpriortothe firstdayoftryouts.

TryoutsshouldlastnolongerthanfivedaysforUSstudent-athletes.Coacheswillnotifyindividuals verballyoncetheyselecttheirseasonroster.Squadselectionisbasedonabilityandcutsaremadeatthe discretionofthecoach.Coacheswillprovideanassessmentforallstudent-athletesinvolvedinfinalcuts.Ifa student-athletetriesoutforateamandisnotselectedinthefirstroundofcuts,he/shecanbeinvitedtotry outforanothersportaftercoordinatingwiththeheadcoach.

Invarioussportsprograms,IASASrostersarenotreflectiveofateam’sseasonroster.Coachesmust selecttheirIASASrosters(tobeturnedintohostschools)nolaterthantheTuesdaytwoweeksprecedingthe tournamentunlessotherwisestatedbythehostschool(IASASrule).Student-athletesshouldalwaysconsult thecoachbeforemissinganytryout/practice,andnostudent-athleteshouldquitanysportwithoutfirst consultingthecoach.SeeAppendix1fortheTASSportsOfferingsMatrix.

XI.TRAINING/PRACTICESESSIONS

In-seasonstudent-athletesarerequiredtobeatallscheduledpracticesandcompetitionsunless excusedbytheirheadcoach.Student-athletesareencouragedtocommunicateassoonaspossiblewiththeir headcoachtoresolveanyscheduleconflicts.Additionally,duetothemyriadschoolactivitiesthatmanyof ourstudent-athletesalsoparticipatein,teammeetingsandgatheringswillnormallynottakeplaceduringthe schoolday

Practicesoccurintwotimeblocks.Earlypracticesarefrom3:45pm-5:15pm(allowsstudent-athletes toreachthe5:30pmbus).Latepracticeisfrom5:15-6:45pm.Coacheswillnotifyparentsinadvanceifa practicewillprecludetheuseofthelatebus(latepractice).PracticesarenotscheduledonSundaysorspecial holidayssuchasChristmasDay,Thanksgiving,andDoubleTen.Theremaybeopportunitiestoschedule optionalpracticesatthesetimesbutstudent-athletesarenotrequiredtoattendthesesessions.Student-athletes neednotbeexcusedtocompletetestsorhomeworkwhichcanbecompletedduringfreeperiodsoratother times(makeupworkfollowingexchangesareallowable).Consultationwithindividualteachersisoften helpfulinresolvingtheseissues.

Additionally,theathleticdepartmentwillprovideandmonitorOpenGymswhenfacilitiesare availabletopromoteopenplay.SeethePractice&CompetitionScheduleforinformationonOpenGym times.

XII.SPORTSPECIFICTRAINING(SST)

TheathleticdepartmentoffersseasonalSSTsessionstoprovideadditionaltimetocounteractmanyof theathleticchallengesthatourcoachesandstudent-athletesfaceatthestartofeachsportsseason. These sessionsaredesignedaspre-seasontrainingsessions.Student-athletesrosteredonanin-seasononateam MAYNOTparticipateinSSTsduringthatseason.ObjectivesofSSTsessionsmightincludeimproving cardiovascularendurance,footwork,teamchemistry,strengthandexplosion,andtheunderstandingof fundamentalmovementsanddrills.SeethePractice&CompetitionScheduleforSSTsessiontimes.

1. SSTFitness:

SSTFitnessofferingsoccuruptofourtimeseveryweekinSeasons1and2.Anyandall willingstudent-athletesfromGrade6-12areeligibletoattend.Theobjectiveofthesesessions istoconsistentlyprovidearesourceforallTASstudent-athletestoimprovetheirphysical fitnessandathleticabilityinpreparationforthesport/activityoftheirchoice.

2.SeasonalSportSSTGuidelines(USonly):

a.AllinterestedUSstudent-athletescantakepartinseasonalsportSSTofferingsin additiontoFitness.

b.SeasonalsportSSTsessionsareonlyofferedintheseasonleadinguptothe competitive season.

SSTcurriculumcanbedeliveredinavarietyofways.Theathleticdepartmentwillwork closelywithallProgramLeaderstocreatethebesttrainingatmospherepossible.Eachvarsity headcoachisconsideredaProgramLeader,unlessotherwisespecified.ProgramLeaders collaboratewithallothercoacheswithintheprogram,theathleticdepartment,their student-athletesandpotentialtrainers.Examples:

Appendix2.1HeadInjuryandSuspectedConcussionProtocolforStudent-Athletes

Anystudent-athletewhoexperiencesaheadinjury(bump,jolt,orblow)willbeassessedand observedforaminimumof30minutesforasuspectedconcussionbyoneoftheAthleticTrainers.The SCAT-5,ChildSCAT-5sidelineassessmentwillbeused.

Ifastudent-athletesustainsmultipleconcussionswithintwoconsecutiveyears,theheadathletic trainerwillnotifythestudent-athleteandfamilytodeterminethebestcourseofactionmovingforward.Ona case-by-casebasis,thestudent-athletemayneedtoconsiderotheroptionsregardingtheircurrentsportof choice,dependingonthelevelofcontact.Thesportsmedicineteamandathleticsdepartmentwillassistthe student-athleteandfamilytodetermineamoresuitablesportfortheirspecificcase.Repeatedheadtraumain middleandhighschoolagedchildrencancauselongtermbraindamage,especiallysincethebrainisstill developingattheseages.

Ifaconcussionissuspected,thestudent-athleteshouldnotbeleftaloneandshouldbemonitoredfor worseningsymptoms.Ifsymptomsworsenandbecomeemergent,thestudent-athletewillbetransportedto thenearestemergencydepartment.

Each participant and his/her parent must sign and return this form before traveling or hosting. By doing so, theyacknowledgethattheyfullyunderstandandagreetoabidebytheseRULES&GUIDELINES.

PARTICIPANTS

1 Smoking, drinking alcohol, drug abuse, cheating, deceit, inappropriate sexual behavior, flagrant curfewviolations and violations of the “off limits” areas as wellasaidingandabettinganyoftheabovewillnotbepermittedduring anyIASASevent

When a student commits an infraction relating to alcohol, tobacco, drug abuse, cheating, deceit, disrespect, flagrant curfew / “off limits” areas violations, as well as aiding and abettinganyoftheabove,thefollowingshall apply:

i Thestudentmaynolongerparticipateinthatconvention.

ii Thestudentwillbesenthomeathis/herparents’expenseifitisfeasibletodoso

iii Uponreturntoschool,thefollowingconsequenceswillapply:

1. PriortoparticipatinginanypracticeortryoutsessionsforanyTASsportsoffering,eachathletemust successfullypassaphysicalexaminationbyaregisteredphysician.AcopyofthePhysicalExaminationform mustbeonfileintheTAShealthoffice.

2 Thestudent athleteandparentmustacknowledgeandagreetothefollowingstatements:

AsaTASstudent-athleteparticipatingvoluntarilyininterscholasticathletics,Iunderstandthat:

2 IwillabidebyTAS’srulesasoutlinedintheTASStudent AthleteParentHandbook,thecoach’steamrules, and/orIASASconferencerules(outlinedinAppendix 3).Violationsmayresultinsuspensionordismissal fromtheteamandfurtherdisciplinaryactionfromtheUSadministrationorAthleticDirector.

3. Iwillconductmyselfinanexemplarymanneratalltimes,inaccordancewithTASphilosophyofathletics.

4. Iwillberesponsibleforallathleticuniformsandequipmentissuedtomethroughouttheseason.Iwillreturn suchequipmentattheconclusionoftheseason,andIwillcoveranydamageorlosstosuchequipmentby payingthecurrentreplacementcostforanyoftheequipmentandNT$4000foruniformsnotaccountedforby meattheendoftheseason.

5. Iwillnotuseorbeinpossessionoftobacco,alcoholorotherdrugsatanypointintheseason.IfIdouseanyof thesesubstances,aminpossessionofsuchsubstances,oramsuspendedfromschoolforuseorpossessionof thesesubstances,Iwillbesubjecttodisciplinaryactionandpossibledismissalfromtheteam

8. IacknowledgethatifIamparticipatinginavarsityteam,Iwillberequiredandwillbeabletotravel internationallytoexchangesandIASASevents,whichwillrequireafinancialcommitment, a current foreign passport (non Taiwanese) with six months validity for the dates of travel and where necessary, an eligible visa in order to travel.

9. DuringtheseuncertaintimesduetoCOVID 19,IunderstandandwillabidebyallcurrentTaiwanCDC mandatesasitrelatestotravelandquarantinerestrictionsuponarrivalintoTaiwan.Furthermore,Iwillcomply withallhostcountrytravelmandates.

AsaparentofaTASstudent-athleteparticipatingvoluntarilyininterscholasticathletics,Iunderstand that:

IunderstandthatasaparentofaTASstudent athlete Iamrequiredtohousestudent athletesfrom otherschoolswhenTAShostsathleticeventsthatinvolvetravelingteams.Theminimumrequirementis tohouseonceperUSsportthatmychildisinvolvedin.Iunderstandthatifweareunabletohousemy childwillfindasuitablereplacement.Atleastoneparentwillbepresentwhenhostingguests.

3. Iauthorizetheschooltoobtain,throughaphysicianofitschoice,anyemergencymedicalcarethatmay becomereasonablynecessaryforthestudent athleteinthecourseofsuchathleticactivities.(NOTE:The schoolwillmakeeveryefforttomakeuseofyourchild’shealthandinjuryinformation).

4. Iagreewe/Iwillnotholdtheschooloranyoneactingonitsbehalfresponsibleforanyinjuryoccurringtothe above namedstudent athleteinthecourseofsuchathleticactivitiesorsuchtravel.

Ihavereadtheeligibilityrulesandregulationsofstudent athleteparticipationlistedabove(Student Athlete Agreement,bullets1 8)andfullyunderstandandsupportthem Ifurtherunderstandthatshouldtherebeatime wherebyeithermyson/daughterortheschoolisnotinaccordancewiththeseguidelines,Imayrequesta conferencewithinthreecalendardaysofsuchtimewiththeschoolpersonnel AthleticDirectorand/or coach todiscussthematterfurther

6 Igivemypermissionforthestudenttohaveabaselineandpost concussionImPACT(Immediate Post ConcussionAssessmentandCognitiveTesting)administeredbyTaipeiAmericanSchool.Iunderstand thatmychildmayneedtobetestedmorethanonce,dependingontheresultsofthetest.Iunderstandthatmy student athleteshouldbeclearedbyaphysicianandaTaipeiAmericanSchoolAthleticTrainerbefore returningtoathleticsoranyactivityfollowingaconcussion.

7. DuringtheseuncertaintimesduetoCOVID 19,IunderstandandwillabidebyallcurrentTaiwanCDC mandatesasitrelatestotravelandquarantinerestrictionsuponarrivalintoTaiwan.Furthermore,Iwillcomply withallhostcountrytravelmandates.
