The Voters Have Spoken A Bright Future Ahead

For Hallandale Beach

The election is over and the voters have spoken. Vice Mayor Mike Butler has retained his seat with a 40% win over the other three candidates. I had a chance to reach out to him and Mike shared, “This win was a group effort by many diverse stake holders in our community. It ensures the continuation of many accomplishments by our City over the past two years. He con tinued with and I can’t agree more, “It was a vote to maintain the stability, civility and the con tinued improvement in services that our residents deserve.” Obviously, he and Joy Adams both are looking forward to serv ing the City and our residents.

Joy Adams won a Commission Seat with 56% of the vote over the two other candidates she wanted “To thank Qunea Gordon and Greg Waters for running a civil, clean race and I look for ward to working for the resi dents.” While this Election was civil compared to the 2020 City Election, it was not without its drama.

Early on in the Election, Commissioner Lima Taub, Commissioner Lazarow and I united with Mike to make sure we could keep our City on the right track. Even with an open seat vacated by Sabrina Javellana, Former The Voters, Page 8A

Pizza in its many forms has always been a crowd pleaser, young and old alike love the deli cious dish and its convenience.

South Florida residents get to experience the time-honored family favorite at the next level. With its unique shape, wide array of topping choices, and healthy options, P.Pole Pizza has quickly become a favorite in South Florida. Opened by Anthony DiCarlo in November 2021, it is conveniently located at 1113 East Hallandale Beach Boulevard, Hallandale Beach, Florida 33009. Since its beginning, it has steadily gained popularity among locals as well as tourists.

Restaurant owner Anthony DiCarlo is on a continued quest of

providing excellent customer service and seeking ways to improve the customer expe rience. Delivery has been avail able via services such as Uber Eats, DoorDash and Grubhub. However, DiCarlo recognized the need for a more cost-effective delivery system for his custom ers. He realized the extra delivery charges by these services were putting an unnecessary strain on his customers, during the current economic state and rising gas prices. He therefore wanted to offer a more consumer-friendly alternative to his clientele. Customers can still enjoy their delicious creations via Uber Eats, DoorDash and Grubhub. However, now customers have the option of free delivery within a 5

mile radius of the Hallandale Beach’s P.Pole Pizza restaurant location. Enjoying your favorite pizza creation has never been easier, more convenient, or faster. DiCarlo’s delivery option passes savings on to you.

DiCarlo explains,” No extra charges, just fast and free deliv ery. The price you pay for your delivery order is the same price as what you would pay for in the restaurant.”

Since opening in 2021, the popular pizza restaurant has grown quickly and is loved by customers of all ages. Delicious hot Cheese pizza for only $8, withavegancheeseoptionavail able, scrumptious two topping

Fried was encouraged towards a music career by Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson, the Rebbe of Lubavitch and by Mordechai Ben David. Fried began his career with the release of his first album “No Jew Will Be Left Behind” in 1981. The title song was composed by Yossi Green and the song “Kel Hahodaos” was written by Kol Salonica. Fried went on to col laborate with Green on eight albums. Green is credited with some of Fried’s biggest hits, including “Aderaba”, “Tanya” and “DidohBei.”

His music is mostly cate gorized as Pop Jewish Music, similar to Mordechai Ben David and tends to integrate many styles of popular music, includ ing: Pop, Rock and Jazz with Jewish lyrics and themes. He also has a few “cantor” style songs on most of his albums, as well as many songs written in Yiddish. He sings his Yiddish songswithaChabadflavor.

Ishay Ribo

Ishay was born and raised in France and at the age of 13 he began writing songs, composing and recording them in his home. He learned to play the guitar at 18.

In 2014, he launched his debut album, “Tocho Ratzuf Ahava,” which was certified Gold for selling more than 25,000 cop ies in Israel. At the same time, the song “Kol Dodi” reached the number one spot for Israeli Religious Radio Stations. Ishay has collaborated on singles and performances with prominent Israeli artists, including: Shlomo Artzi, Idan Raichel and David D’or, as well as famous Jewish Musicians: Avraham Fried, Yaakov Shwekey, Mordechai Ben David, Yonatan Razel, among others.

Ishay Ribo participated in the three “Tzama” project albums,

young artists in the Israeli Music Scene, with millions of YouTube views and his third album “Shetah Afor” that become one of the most intriguing on the charts.

The Dynamic Duo

For the last five years, Fried and Ribo have been hosting a 12,000 person joint Chanukah Concert in Israel, night after night. The show was supposed to hit New York last winter but had to be canceled at the last minute due to the third wave of Corona and the lockdown in Israel. This year, for the first time ever, the two are heading out directly from the Israeli Concert totheshoresofMiami.

From about 12:00 p.m. Noon until 2:00 p.m. on Friday, November 11th, 2022 the City of Hollywood hosted its Annual Veteran’s Day Barbeque at TY Park before about 150 US Veterans, their families and guests.

Said Hollywood Mayor Josh Levy, “I’d like to start today by thanking all those among us who, despite the risk and sac rifice, raised their hand to serve and defend this beautiful country-our Veterans, Active Duty Service Members, Guardsmen and Reservists. Your service has helped keep our country and its citizens safe and free!”

The mayor added, “Let’s also take a moment to acknowledge those families of Service Members and Veterans who help shoulder the weight of war and the burdens of sacrifice. To the mothers, fathers, spouses and children of our Military Men and Women, thank you. Your love, support and resilience are the backbone of this nation and that mustneverbeforgotten.”

The holiday festivities have been a tradition since initiated in 2011 by then Mayor Peter Bober. It had been disrupted during 2020 and 2021 because of the Pandemic. And it almost had to be nixed this year due to Hurricane Nicole that at the last minute on Thursday veered north to Vero Beach, sparing the City of Hollywood. For that reason, those arriving under the cap of 400 invited to reserve a seat were smaller than anticipated, though those who attended appeared to have a delightful time.

Commissioner London ran against his former friend. In June, we were determined not to go negative unless it was necessary. Who wanted to relive those dark years in our history? We wanted tokeepourCityoutofthenews!

It was hard to imagine two years ago that this would be the case. Over the past two years, we finally had a chance to work together in a stable and civil environment. While we do not always agree, we have not been in the headlines for shenanigans. This is not just great for the Commission, but for our City, residents, businesses and Staff. The negative campaign ads did not take too long to come out. Keith London could not change hisways.

Every Election has some hot button issues. The first to go is always Taxes. No one wants to raise Taxes and certainly no one likes to pay them. When I saw the first negative attack on Taxes and the Budget, I was now determined to make sure resi dents had the facts. Tax rate up 28%! Firstly, that Rate is not even the Tax Rate, it was our Roll Back Rate. This is the Rate if we only had to raise the same Revenue as the last year to pro vide services. It was a high value

that played a role in this projec tion. I know that it is complex, but the top Tax Rate is 10% max on all Property and on Homesteads, the top rate is 3%. The Rollback Rate is an assump tion based on something that simply is unfounded with today’s Inflation Rates. It pre sumes that every cost to operate the City stays thesame.

The second lie was about reserve funding. A propaganda piece went out about our Tesla pur chase stating our Reserves are $5 Million Dollars which was an outright lie. We actually balanced our Budget without Reserves for the first time in years. Our Reserves areat$21Million.

vehicle purchased is evaluated when it comes to the use, safety and then costs that include pur chase price, operating costs, maintenance and trade in values. The Tesla’s were the perfect choice for our Detective Division inthePoliceDepartment.

wars.” It is celebrated on the 11th hour, of the 11th day, of the 11th month and first was known as Armistice Day and made a legal holiday in 1938. After other wars ensued, in 1954 “Armistice” was changed to “Veterans” to honorallVeterans.

Here are a few guests who attended:

My name is Gale Levine. I am the daughter of Leon Levine. My father was in the US Army and was a Lieutenant. He served his country with his heart and soul. All the Veterans that served our country deserve our utmost respect. Gale S. Levine -- RN LeonservedduringWWII.

Bonnie Ogden from Hollywood, Florida said she’d been a nurse during the Vietnam era.Sheenjoyedthebarbeque.

Pam Burgio - Hollywood Hills Civic Association. “Love our Veterans!”

Mayor Levy ended his speech withpoignantwords:

“As Americans, let’s never lose sight of the meaning of today. May we always show respect for our American insti tutions, extend a lending hand to our neighbors and commit our selves to making our communi ties across this great nation a place for all to strive for life, lib erty and the pursuit of hap piness... Let us make sure that no Fallen Soldier or Sailor, Coast Guardsman, Marine or Airman, shall have died or have been wounded in vain. We must remember them, honor them and we do that by not only extending to them our thanks and support, but also by living our lives as a freepeople!”

The third lie is about the Tesla’s. After years of not replac ing vehicles in our fleet, we are addressing critical needs in our Departments. Many vehicles are well beyond their useful life. We now have a policy that requires that we replace vehicles with a goal for going to Electric. Not all vehicles can be electric, but can be “Green” at this time due to the different vehicle types we needtoruntheCity.

We ordered Tesla’s well before the car shortage. The Rate was $10,000 less than what the market was last year. Every

The other major hot button is the On-Street Parking Program. I have written about the program over the past 2 years. We know that there are residents that do not want to pay to park. The pro gram, while it equates to $1 Dollar a day for residents that have to park a second car, there are actually many benefits. We have always had a goal to make adjustments that make sense after the first year. As a note, we are not the only community that has a Paid Parking Program, which should have been imple mentedyearsago.

I do want to thank the other two candidates that ran in this

Joy Adams is no stranger to the Hallandale Beach Commission. This was her third time run ning. She ran against London in an overwhelming win for the Mayor’s Seat. Some say this was a Citywide referendum against London’s negativity. She served for 14 months until I was reinstated. She ran for Mayor and lost in 2020. She decided to run for the open Commission Seat and won with 56% of the vote in this Election. She brings to the Vacant Seat, knowledge of the City and caring as a longstanding resident and business owner. All of our Charter Amendments passed which will

back to business. On Monday, November 28th, 2022 both Commissioner Butler and Commissioner Adams will be sworn in. At that time a Vice Mayor will be selected by major ity vote of the Commission. You should never attempt to remove mold without a licensed professional, it is unsafe, and hazardous to your health. Mold thrives in dark, damp environ ments such as under the kitchen or bathroom sinks, in unven tilated basements, and closed in laundry rooms. It can even be found behind drywall. Because of the heat and humidity which Florida is known for, it provides a perfect environment for mold to thrive. Vigilance is key when it comes to mold remediation. Bleach and paint alone will not eliminate the problem, only hide it, allowing it to grow unseen and spread. This causes more dam age to your home and health over time. People and pets all respond differently to mold and mildew. For some, it may be watery eyes, itchy throat, cough, or skin irritation. Confusion, dis orientation, and even halluci nations can also be signs of mold exposure. For others, exposure to mold can cause very serious, even life-threatening health problems. When it comes to your health and the safety of your loved ones, trust the experts at Titan Restoration Inc. to have you breathing easier, in a mold-freeenvironment.

Once the mold has been iden tified, the mold remediation proc ess begins. Titan Restoration Inc. will dry out the affected area

using fans and dehumidifiers. Followed by thoroughly cleans ing and sanitizing the affected areas using antimicrobial agents effectiveformold-eliminatingand prevention. HEPA- air purifiers are used to capture any airborne mold spores, leaving you with clean air. Green cleaners are used for mildew removal. Since mold spores are airborne and invisible to the naked eye it is necessary to deep clean the air ducts, carpets, furnishings, and

upholstery. Homeowners’ insur ance covers the cost in most cases following water damage. These services are offered yearround, and it is recommended to have these done once a year to remove allergens, bacteria, dirt, and grime buildup that occurs naturally over time. These serv ices are recommended more fre quently if you have pets, suffer from allergies, or are a smoker, to ensure peace of mind and healthier living. After the repairs

are completed and your home or business is restored to its preloss condition, a Florida statelicensed Mold Inspector will be sent out to do a final inspection, to ensure all mold concerns were effectively eliminated. Titan Restoration Inc. takes pride in providing the best service expe rience to its customers from start to finish. Their goal is to have your property back to its pre-loss condition while taking the stress offyou.
