menu categories. Fabulous starter options include small plates like the Cacio e Pepe Arancini, which features crispy risotto balls with pecorino Romano cheese, a crushed pepper blend and pesto aioli for a delightful combination of textures and rich flavors. The Black Mediterranean Mussels with calabrese salami, white wine, garlic butter, fresh herbs and grilled bread provides a savory and aromatic start to your meal … also showcasing the restaurant’s skill with seafood-driven dishes. No afterthought, salads here are dressed to impress. The Seasonal Vegetable Salad includes butternut squash, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower, kale, radicchio, pecorino, fregola, pistachio, date and a white balsamic vinaigrette, creating a vibrant and nutritious dish. The Italian Farm Salad combines salami, speck, provolone, pepperoncini, olive, heirloom cherry tomato, cucumber, pickled red onion, roasted pepper, herb breadcrumb, and oregano vinaigrette for a hearty and flavorful option. At this locale, pizzas are paramount. The delectable Prosciutto Pizza topped with smoked prosciutto, mission figs, goat cheese arugula leaves—all garnished with a drizzle of honey—proffers the perfect balance of sweet and savory flavors. The Margherita Pizza is a classic choice, of course, with house-made ricotta, mozzarella, grana padano, and fresh basil, delivering a clean and simple, yet delicious, flavor profile.

Of course, the homemade pasta here is a stellar standout. Two dishes exemplifying why the Lumache alla Norcina includes fennel sausage, rapini, grana padano crema, herb breadcrumbs, and black truffle, creating a rich and indulgent dish. The house specialty Bolognese features traditional meat sauce, pappardelle, grana padano, wild oregano, and EVOO, offering a comforting and satisfying meal. Pizza and pasta aside, other entrée options are an equitable epicurean delight. The Braised Short Rib Marsala with beech mushroom, brussels sprouts, heirloom carrot, black truffle risotto, and affinato—and the Grilled Branzino replete with roasted fennel, brussels sprouts, rapini, romanesco, fingerling potato, cipollini and lemon caper butter—further exemplify the restaurant’s culinary ingenuity.

Beverages here are also built differently. While Italian restaurants understand the importance of perfectly matching a beverage with a meal, North Italia adds its unique flair. Their cocktail selection boasts an array of creative cocktail concoctions like the Just Peachy with white peach, raspberry, lemon and ginger beer; and the Limonata Rossa featuring black cherry, fresh lemon and soda, The restaurant’s curated wine list offers a blend of Italian, local and other options to perfectly accompany any dining experience.

Below, North Italia’s Chef Ryan Smith offers a few other tasty insights as to why this eatery has gained - and sustained its popularity in SoFlo:

LLR: What makes the Fort Lauderdale location of North Italia unique compared to other locations in the U.S.?

CRS: Fort Lauderdale is different from, let’s say, Miami where it’s all about the new restaurant openings that everyone wants to go to. Locals in Fort Lauderdale love going to their staple restaurants that have been around for 30 to 40-plus years … and it’s the generations of locals that keep them alive. Although North Italia is new, I believe it will become the local Italian restaurant for generations to come. Our broad menu lends itself to our guests exploring numerous options. North Italia is not a “traditional” Italian restaurant, therefore we offer much more than just pizza and pastas. We also continually update our menus so new and returning guests alike can experience a variety of dishes including appetizers, salads, and entrees, in addition to our pastas and pizzas.

LLR: What sets North Italia Fort Lauderdale apart from other dining options in the area?

CRS: Our handmade pastas, beautiful patio, bar spaces and elevated hospitality set the restaurant apart from others. We pay attention to what our guests are seeking in a dining experience. For one, we change our menu twice a year to allow for the freshest ingredients with the most flavor. This also ensures we are staying current with different culinary and bar trends. Our open kitchens display our commitment to freshness where you can see our team hand rolling our doughs and stuffing our pastas for our guests. We also work personally with people planning special private events and can cater to whatever they are looking for when hosting a party.

LLR: For first-time visitors, what tips or advice would you offer a guest to ensure they have an unforgettable dining experience?

CRS: Come in to relax with friends or family, enjoy some wine, share some small plates or pizza … and don’t leave without trying a pasta! Amid our commitment to freshness, we produce our pizza North

from our Tortelloni Al Pomodoro to our Squid Ink Tonnarelli—is made with simple, fresh ingredients to create a flavorful dish.

LLR: Do share a bit more about how North Italia’s fresh-made pastas elevate the guest experience—also having become a signature of the brand at large.

CRS: The art of making pasta is more than just a recipe. It is a technique passed down from generation to generation. Each region has its own unique shape that is a celebration of Italian culture. We bring that culture into every pasta we make. We want our pasta to reflect the regionality from which it comes. When creating new menu items or updating existing dishes, we intentionally pair the specific type of pasta to the accompanying components of the dish, including the sauce, cheeses, and garnish. Another key element that elevates this

best compliment each pasta—or any— dish, ensuring we are also taking the guest’s preferences into consideration.

LLR: Does the restaurant cater to diners with dietary preferences or restrictions, such as vegetarians or gluten-free guests?

CRS: Yes, we can accommodate all guests with any dietary restrictions by modifying any of our dishes, as necessary. In fact, we have many dishes that are inherently vegetarian on our menu. Some examples include the Zucca Chips, Cacio E Pepe Arancini, Burrata Di Stagione, our Seasonal Vegetable Salad, the Funghi Pizza, and our Tortelloni Al Pomodoro. We also offer gluten-free pasta and pizza crusts by request, with a handful of dishes that are naturally gluten-free.

LLR: What is the approach to the beverage offerings?

We try to stay current with trends ally introduce new and unique Italian wines, enhance classic cocktails by adding Italian ingredients and we recently added a “mocktail” section on our menu as we are seeing them become more and more popular. We use Italian liquors to create our own twist on classic cocktails. Our Sicilian margarita topped with our house made sangria is a must try, along with our cold-served “Jump Start” double espresso martini shaken with chocolate and cream.

In all, North Italia Fort Lauderdale provides a dining experience that combines extraordinarily fresh and robust flavors with a refined yet unpretentious atmosphere—all underpinned by exemplary staff service. Be it a meal on-the-go, a foodieforward lunch or dinner experience, or a memorable celebration, this restaurant serves up an authentic slice of Italy in the vibrant heart of South Florida.

The Wearables Trap:

How The Government Plans To Monitor, Score, And Control You

Bodily autonomy—the right to privacy and integrity over our own bodies—is rapidly vanishing.

We are entering a new age of algorithmic, authoritarian control, where our thoughts, moods, and biology are monitored and judged by the state.

This is the dark promise behind the newest campaign by Robert F. Kennedy Jr., President Trump’s Secretary of Health and Human Services, to push for a future in which all Americans wear biometric health-tracking devices.

Under the guise of public health and personal empowerment, this initiative is nothing less than the normalization of 24/ 7 bodily surveillance—ushering in a world where every step, heartbeat, and biological fluctuation is monitored not only by private companies but also by the government.

In this emerging surveillance-industrial complex, health data becomes currency. Tech firms profit from hardware and app subscriptions, insurers profit from risk scoring, and government agencies profit from increased compliance and behavioral insight.

This convergence of health, technology, and surveillance is not a new strategy—it’s just the next step in a long, familiar pattern of control.

Surveillance has always arrived dressed as progress.

Every new wave of surveillance technology—GPS trackers, red light cameras, facial recognition, Ring doorbells, Alexa smart speakers—has been sold to us as a tool of convenience, safety, or connection. But in time, each became a mechanism for tracking, monitoring, or controlling the public.

What began as voluntary has become inescapable and mandatory.

Devices like Fitbits, Apple Watches, glucose trackers, and smart rings collect astonishing amounts of intimate data— from stress and depression to heart irregularities and early signs of illness. When this data is shared across government databases, insurers, and health platforms, it becomes a potent tool not only for health analysis—but for control.

Once symbols of personal wellness, these wearables are becoming digital cattle tags—badges of compliance tracked in real time and regulated by algorithm.

And it won’t stop there.

The body is fast becoming a battleground in the government’s expanding war on the inner realms.

The Infrastructure is already in place to profile and detain individuals based on perceived psychological “risks.” Now

porations—insurance companies, tech giants, employers—who act as enforcers for the surveillance state.

Wearables don’t just collect data. They sort it, interpret it, and feed it into systems that make high-stakes decisions about your life: whether you get insurance coverage, whether your rates go up, whether you qualify for employment or financial aid.

As reported by ABC News, a JAMA article warns that wearables could easily be used by insurers to deny coverage or hike premiums based on personal health metrics like calorie intake, weight fluctuations, and blood pressure.

It’s not a stretch to imagine this bleeding into workplace assessments, credit scores, or even Social Media rankings.

Employers already offer discounts for

Those who resist may be painted as irresponsible, unhealthy, or even dangerous.

This is not merely the expansion of health care. It is the transformation of health into a mechanism of control—a Trojan horse for the surveillance state to claim ownership over the last private frontier: the human body.

Once biometric data becomes currency in a health-driven surveillance economy, it’s only a matter of time before that data is used to determine whose lives are worth investing in—and whose are not.

This isn’t a left or right issue.

The conquest of physical space—our homes, cars, public squares—is nearly complete.

What remains is the conquest of inner space: our biology, our genetics, our psychology, our emotions. As predictive algo-

Devices like Fitbits, Apple Watches, glucose trackers, and smart rings collect astonishing amounts of intimate data - from stress and depression to heart irregularities and early signs of illness. When this data is shared across government databases, insurers, and health platforms, it becomes a potent tool not only for health analysis - but for control.

The moment we accepted the premise that privacy must be traded for convenience, we laid the groundwork for a society in which nowhere is beyond the government’s reach—not our homes, not our cars, not even our bodies.

RFK Jr.’s wearable plan is just the latest iteration of this bait-and-switch: marketed as freedom, built as a cage.

According to Kennedy’s plan, which has been promoted as part of a national campaign to “Make America Healthy Again,” wearable devices would track glucose levels, heart rate, activity, sleep, and more for every American.

Participation may not be officially mandatory at the outset, but the implications are clear: get on board, or risk becoming a second-class citizen in a society driven by data compliance.

What began as optional self-monitoring tools marketed by Big Tech is poised to become the newest tool in the surveillance arsenal of the police state.

imagine a future in which your wearable data triggers a mental health flag.

Elevated stress levels. Erratic sleep. A skipped appointment. A sudden drop in heart rate variability.

In the eyes of the surveillance state, these could be red flags—justification for intervention, inquiry, or worse.

RFK Jr.’s embrace of wearable tech is not a neutral innovation. It is an invitation to expand the government’s war on thought crimes, health noncompliance, and individual deviation.

It shifts the presumption of innocence to a presumption of diagnosis. You are not well until the algorithm says you are.

The government has already weaponized surveillance tools to silence dissent, flag political critics, and track behavior in real time. Now, with wearables, they gain a new weapon: access to the human body as a site of suspicion, deviance, and control.

While government agencies pave the way for biometric control, it will be cor-

“voluntary” wellness tracking—and penalize nonparticipants. Insurers give incentives for healthy behavior—until they decide unhealthy behavior warrants punishment. Apps track not just steps, but mood, substance use, fertility, and sexual activity—feeding the ever-hungry data economy.

We now face the quiet erosion of autonomy through the normalization of constant monitoring.

We must ask: when surveillance becomes a condition of participation in modern life—employment, education, health care—are we still free? Or have we become, as in every great dystopian warning, conditioned not to resist, but to comply?

That’s the hidden cost of these technological conveniences: today’s wellness tracker is tomorrow’s corporate leash.

Once health tracking becomes a de facto requirement for employment, insurance, or social participation, it will be impossible to “opt out” without penalty.

rithms grow more sophisticated, the government and its corporate partners will use them to assess risk, flag threats, and enforce compliance in real time.

The goal is no longer simply to monitor behavior but to reshape it—to preempt dissent, deviance, or disease before it arises. As I make clear in my book Battlefield America: The War on the American People and in its fictional counterpart The Erik Blair Diaries, now is the time to draw the line—before the body becomes just another piece of state property.

A Miami fine dining favorite is celebrating summer 2025 with an array of new offerings and a streamlined, casual new neighborhood vibe. Piegari Ristorante, the celebrated Italian-Argentinian restaurant in the heart of Wynwood, is reintroducing itself to the Magic City with vibrant new menu offerings, a reimagined guest experience, flavorful new mocktails, and nightly Happy Hour offerings. Ensuring the utmost in hospitality, guests will receive a complimentary welcome drink – a refreshing blend of vodka, grapefruit, orange, fresh lemon, and a hint of mint.

Pours before plates, if you please. Available nightly from 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m., imbibers will find the new Happy Hour featuring 50% off all signature cocktails. This includes the restaurant’s most popular cocktails, which can be enjoyed at the bar or table: the Belladonna (Una Vodka, raspberry-sage infused syrup, and lemon juice); the Golden Wolf (Lobos 1707 Mezcal infused with Jalapeño, Lobos 1707 Joven Tequila, and pineapple juice) and the Mediterranean Breeze (Gin Mare, cucumber and mint infused Ketel One, and lime juice syrup). For those seeking great tastes without the buzz, Piegari now offers zero-proof versions of the above as well.

Now, onto the plates. Before sampling from the generous new summer specials, a guest at Piegari would do best to begin their journey with one of the brand’s sig nature favorites. They include but are not limited to fresh and creamy Burrata, served with prosciutto di Parma, ripe tomato, and peppery arugula; Polpo alla

Griglia – grilled octopus with Campari tomatoes, black olives and potatoes; Scampi alla Piegari – shrimp tossed with olive oil and garlic; its world-renowned Corde di Chitarra alla Carrettiera – guitar string pasta tossed with a light tomato sauce, fresh cherry tomatoes and black olives; its equally famous Ravioli alla Piegari – spinach and ricotta ravioli deliv ered to the table in a cast iron pan, baked in a sinfully delicious creamy tomato sauce, topped with Parmigiano, and Milanese alla Napoletana – breaded and fried filet mignon served with fresh tomato sauce, ham, imported cheese and a side of corde de chitarra pasta tossed with butter.

North Miami Is Getting Some Pretty Sweet Scoops

Lily’s Handmade Ice Cream Coming Soon To North Miami

What began as a crazy idea whipped up between a father and son has grown into one of South Florida’s most beloved ice cream destinations. Lily’s Ice Cream is a true family affair, run by the Gilinsky family (Ronen, with sons Ori and Tal) who built the shop from scratch with passion, persistence, and a true love for America’s sweetest summer indulgence. Preparing to launch their new (and second) location on Friday, August 8th, 2025 at the Biscayne Commons Shopping Center in North Miami, the Gilinskys never imagined their love for ice cream would grow into something so much more than that. Truth be told, the Gilinsky family purchased and renovated their first storefront in Delray Beach before even knowing how to make ice cream. Since then, they developed a loyal following and were proudly named #1 Best Ice Cream in South Florida by the Sun Sentinel.

At the heart of the brand is co-owner and self-taught ice cream imaginaire Ori Gilinsky, who, despite having no formal culinary background, taught himself the

art of ice cream with the help of some key mentors and YouTube. Inspired by globetrotting adventures, much eating and exploration, and fueled by countless hours experimenting with flavor combinations, ingredients and products, he developed his own style based on, first and foremost, the principle of “keeping it fun.” Ronen, the patriarch of the Gilinsky clan, oversees the financial side of the business while brother Tal plays an active role in day-today operations.

“Lily’s was born out of a deep love for ice cream and a desire to create something truly original, fun and delicious. We’re not here to replicate what’s already out there; we want people to try something they’ve never had before,” says Ori of the shop, named after his sister. “We’re so excited to bring Lily’s to North Miami and look forward to welcoming new faces, connecting with the community, and sharing our passion for ice cream.” With a focus on creativity and quality, Lily’s offers a diverse and playful menu that highlights both classic and unique fla-

vors. Like the Delray location, the North Miami store will feature the brand’s 12 signature flavors alongside four rotating flavors that change monthly, offering customers something new to try every time. Must-try delights among the signature scoops include: Dusty Monkey — brownsugar-infused banana ice cream studded with biscoff cookies; South Florida Swamp — chocolate ice cream with Oreo cookies and chocolate chips; Fairy Floss — cotton candy ice cream with rainbow sprinkles and frosted Animal Crackers and Wolverine Delight — cake batter ice cream with brownies, sprinkles, and cookie dough. Other signature flavors include Pure Vanilla; Double Espresso; Mint Chocolate Chunk; Belgium Chocolate; Kinderella; Strawberry Dream; Cookies N Cream Supreme and Cookie Chaos. In addition to its signature scoops, Lily’s also offers a variety of sweet treats, including specialty sundaes, ice cream cakes, ice cream sandwiches, and homemade waffle cones. Every batch of ice cream is made in-

house using all-natural ingredients, with no preservatives or artificial additives. The menu is fully Kosher and includes a selection of dairy-free, gluten-free, and vegan options, ensuring there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

To make sure the North Miami opening is extra sweet, Ori has partnered with a handful of well-known local celebrities for killer August flavor collaborations including Miami TV icon and foodie extraordinaire Belkys Nerey of WSVN Fox 7; radio legend Paul Castronovo of WBGG 105.9 FM and Social Media influencer Mike Zein. More names and details on flavor offerings forthcoming.

The North Miami location is set to open on Friday, August 8th, 2025. Lily’s will be located at 14871 Biscayne Boulevard in North Miami, Florida 33181 at the Biscayne Commons; Hours of operation: Sunday through Thursday, 2:00 p.m. - 11:00 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, Noon-Midnight. State of the City of Hallandale Beach, Part 8

Both Safe Neighborhood Districts are looking to enhance safety and security.

The Three Islands Plan has been approved, just this past month we have established a funding plan to pay for over $4.2 Million in roadway safety improvements. We are applying for a loan to be paid back over five years. Every property owner will pay a yearly flat assessment. There is an exemption provision for those currently on the tax roll listed for disabilities, Veterans, and homestead seniors, 65 with limited incomes.

Construction should begin within the year so long as the underground improvements are completed. The lift station pro-

ject on Parkview will not delay the construction as it is not directly done in the right way.

Golden Isles will be planning for over $15 Million in improvements. We will be addressing that financing in the coming months. There is still major underground work for Holiday Drive so improvement will begin after that project. We are planning to replace all the guard arms due to damage and age.

Operational changes at the guardhouse were adopted to enhance security after extensive research by our City Attorney. All visitors entering the guard gate will need to produce IDs. This will address residential concerns over recent car thefts

and attempted thefts.

While the Business Survey is underway some results have come in and it is no surprise Traffic has remained a top issue for business as well as residents. Since I have owned property and moved to Florida full time. I hear people complaining about traffic.

Traffic congestion is a huge reality in South Florida. We are the fifth ranked area for traffic congestion according to U.S. World Reports, we have joined Chicago and others to being above the PreCOVID-19 Pandemic numbers.

So, what really can be done about traffic? Even if we had all the money to complete the $75 Million dollars worth of road

projects, we like all communities, will not rid society of rush hour. We certainly can and will not stop trying to improve traffic flow and congestion, but there is not one silver bullet. We have conducted traffic studies over the years and are now in partnership with the Metropolitan Planning Organization to conduct an updated survey.

Permanent Sales Tax Exemptions Aim To Help Prepare For Hurricane Season

With the 2025 Atlantic Hurricane Season well underway, residents are encouraged to finalize their storm plans, if they haven’t already. This year, there’s a new reason to stock up early. Starting Friday, August 1st, 2025, a number of essential Hurricane Preparedness and Outdoor Safety items will be permanently exempt from Florida’s State Sales Tax. This year, instead of a Tax Holiday for Emergency Preparedness Items, the Florida Legislature decided to make many of those exemptions permanent. That means residents will no longer have to wait for a specific week or month to purchase storm supplies Tax-Free.

Items included in the new permanent exemption beginning Friday, August 1st, 2025 are as follows: Common household batteries (AA, AAA, C, D, 6-volt, and 9volt). Smoke detectors and carbon monoxide alarms. Fire extinguishers. Portable generators. Waterproof tarps and flexible waterproof sheeting (1,000 square feet or less). Ground anchor systems and tiedown kits. Portable fuel containers (5 gallons or less). Life jackets and bicycle helmets. Sunscreen and insect repellent. With peak hurricane activity typically beginning in late August, now is the time to prepare. The City of Hollywood encourages residents to visit: www.hollywoodfl.org/hurricane for up-todate information on evacuation zones, storm surge maps, shelter locations, and how to create a solid hurricane plan. These permanent tax exemptions are a welcome step toward making safety more accessible. Take advantage of the savings and make sure you’re ready before the next storm is on the radar.

lasting legacy of Rosebud Restaurants. We aim for Mia Rosebud to become the go-to restaurant in the area that is perfect for any occasion or night of the week.”

This new Mia Rosebud restaurant—the restaurant group’s 10th culinary destination—boasts an atmosphere that seamlessly merges an indoor area with an inviting outdoor terrace. This environment sets the stage for a variety of gatherings from intimate meals to lively celebrations.

ahead of time in order to preserve authenticity and integrity of the best imported ingredients.”

As for Dana’s personal menu favorites, Mia Rosebud’s famed Homemade Pappardelle and Crispy Brick Chicken top the list, along with the eatery’s Steak Italiano with vinegar peppers. “If you are really ‘in the know,’ ask about our grandma’s basement Eight Finger Cavatelli,” he reveals.

This includes twists on Italian cocktails such as the Mia Rosebud Cosmopolitan, Blood Orange Deliza and Chilled Biscotti Brulée ensuring that every meal is perfectly complemented by a fabulous beverage selection. “Our goal has always been to bring Sunday dinner to life at each service,” Dana continued. “Bocciolo Di Rosa was the original name of our Restaurant, which brings guests back to a time in life having good times and making beautiful memories with

the people in life that mean the most. Our restaurants have and will always be about the people that make them happen each day. Our Chefs and Managers have been with us for decades, which is a true testament of what the Rosebud family is all about.”

According to Dana, celebrity guests throughout the years have included: Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Rod Stewart, Robert DeNiro, Joe Pesce, Tom Hanks, Bill Clinton, Oprah Winfrey, Michael Jordan, Tommy Lasorda, Lady Gaga, Jim Belushi and Anthony Quinn...just to name a few of the A-Listers who’ve enjoyed the Rosebud experience.
