“We should all be alarmed when any individual or groupprominent or not - is censored, silenced and made to disappear...”

Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta, has finally admitted what we knew all along: Facebook conspired with the government to censor individuals expressing “disapproved” views about the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Zuckerberg’s confession comes in the wake of a series of court rulings that turn a blind eye to the government’s technofascism.

In a 2-1 decision in Children’s Health Defense v. Meta, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals dismissed a lawsuit brought by Children’s Health Defense against Meta Platforms for restricting CHD’s posts, fundraising, and advertising on Facebook following communications between Meta and Federal Government officials.

In a unanimous decision in the combined cases of NetChoice v. Paxton and Moody v. NetChoice, the U.S. Supreme Court avoided ruling on whether the states could pass laws to prohibit censorship by Big Tech companies on social media platforms such as Facebook, TikTok, and YouTube.

And in a 6-3 ruling in Murthy v. Missouri , the Supreme Court sidestepped a challenge to the Federal Government’s efforts to

Tens Of Thousands Of Floridians Face A Motor Meltdown Due To Negative Equity

“Consumers are finding themselves in negative equity situations that are hard to escape.” Tyler Letson, an auto expert from Frisco CDJR

Tens of thousands of Floridians who financed their vehicles are on the brink of a financial meltdown, caught in the tightening grip of negative equity.

Tyler Letson, an auto expert from Frisco CDJR, sounds the alarm on a growing crisis that threatens to ensnare countless car owners in a financial trap that’s hard to escape.

While negative equity isn’t new (as cars have always depreciated), many in the car industry

worry that COVID-19 PandemicRelated Factors could have significant impacts on car owners who used loans to finance their purchases.

they could otherwise spend, resulting in much higher auto loan balances.

“The car market is now experiencing a period of reconciliation” says Letson. “Consumers are finding themselves in negative equity situations that are hard to escape.” This surge of challenges is particularly troubling for car owners who financed their vehicles with little or no down payment. The problem is exacerbated by the fact that cars, unlike houses, are depreciating assets. The moment you drive a new car off the lot, it begins to lose value, and this

Mr. Letson explains how a combination of the COVID-19 Pandemic, microchip shortages and supply chain issues caused new-car inventory to plummet. A lack of supply for new and used cars pushed vehicle prices to record highs at a time when interest rates continued to climb, forcing many car buyers to make purchases at the top of the market. At the same time, government stimulus payments and work from home culture enabled many people to afford more than Upside Down, Page 6A

A Campy Comic Melodrama

The Killer Satire Starring Kris Andersson

Kris Andersson, stars as Angela Arden in Island City Stage’s production of the satiric black comedy Die, Mommie, Die!

Don’t miss Island City Stage’s uproarious production of Die, Mommie, Die! by Charles Busch, running now through September 22nd. Off-Broadway Star Kris Andersson (aka Dixie Longate) takes the art of drag to a new level as Angela Arden, an aging kitten with a quip, grapples with middle age and murderous intentions with madcap melodrama.

“The plot is a puréed pastiche of the 1960s diva-with-an-ax flicks that stars like Davis, Crawford and Tallulah Bankhead

were reduced to appearing in (What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?, Strait-Jacket and Die! Die! My Darling!), with a dollop of Lana Turner weepies like Madame X,” writes Ben Brantley of the New York Times.

Ex-pop singer Angela Arden is trapped in a hateful marriage with Sol. But desperate to find happiness with her young lover Tony, Angela murders her husband with a poisoned suppository. Suspicious of their mother, her children slip her some LSD, provoking a wild acid trip in which many secrets are revealed.

Die, Mommie, Die! was first produced in 1999 by Kenneth Elliott and Don Fairbanks at the

Coast Playhouse in Los Angeles. In October 2007, the play opened Off-Broadway at New World Stages in New York City.

Directed by Carl Andress, the production starred Author Charles Busch and featured Bob Ari, Van Hansis, Chris Hoch, Ashley Morris and Kristine Nielsen. It was also made into a 2003 film starring Busch.

Charles Busch has forged a unique place in the world of entertainment as Playwright, Actor, Director, Novelist, cabaret performer and drag icon. The Award-Winner is the author and star of over 25 plays including The Divine Sister, The Lady in Question, Red Scare on Sunset,

Hurricane Andrew was the strongest and most devastating Hurricane on record to hit southern Florida. When it made landfall, Andrew was a Category 5 Hurricane, with maximum sustained winds of 165 mph and a minimum central pressure of 922 millibars. It’s one of only four Hurricanes to make landfall in the United States as a Category 5 since 1900. It struck South Miami-Dade County (then known as Dade County) during the pre-dawn hours on Monday, August 24th, 1992. It caused an estimated $26 Billion in damage in the United States making it at the time the most expensive natural disaster in United States history, not to be surpassed until Hurricane Katrina 13 years later. In Homestead, Florida - the hardest hit community - more than 99% of the mobile homes were completely destroyed.

coerce Social Media Companies into cen soring users’ First Amendment expres sion.

Welcome to the age of technocensor ship.

On paper—under the First Amendment, at least—we are technically free to speak.

In reality, however, we are now only as free to speak as a government official—or corporate entities such as Facebook, Google or YouTube—may allow.

Case in point: internal documents released by the House Judiciary Select Subcommittee on Weaponization of the Federal Government confirmed what we have long suspected: that the government has been working in tandem with Social Media Companies to censor speech.

By “censor,” we’re referring to con certed efforts by the government to muz zle, silence and altogether eradicate any speech that runs afoul of the govern ment’s own approved narrative.

This is political correctness taken to its most chilling and oppressive extreme.

The revelations that Facebook worked in concert with the Biden Administration to censor content related to the COVID-19 Pandemic, including humorous jokes, credible information and so-called dis information, followed on the heels of a rul ing by a federal court in Louisiana that prohibits Executive Branch Officials from communicating with Social Media Companies about controversial content in their online forums.

Likening the government’s heavyhanded attempts to pressure Social Media Companies to suppress content critical of the COVID-19 Pandemic’s Vaccines or the election to “an almost dystopian scenario,” Judge Terry Doughty warned that “the United States Government seems to have assumed a role similar to an Orwellian ‘Ministry of Truth.’”

This is the very definition of technofas cism.

Clothed in tyrannical selfrighteousness, technofascism is powered by technological behemoths (both cor porate and governmental) working in tan dem to achieve a common goal.

The government is not protecting us from “dangerous” disinformation cam paigns. It is laying the groundwork to insu late us from “dangerous” ideas that might cause us to think for ourselves and, in so doing, challenge the power elite’s stran glehold over our lives.

Thus far, the tech giants have been able to sidestep the First Amendment by virtue of their non-governmental status, but it’s a dubious distinction at best when they are marching in lockstep with the government’s dictates.

As Philip Hamburger and Jenin Younes write for The Wall Street Journal: “The First Amendment prohibits the govern ment from ‘abridging the Freedom of Speech.’ The Supreme Court Doctrine makes it clear that the government can’t constitutionally evade the amendment by working through private companies.”

Nothing good can come from allowing the government to sidestep the Constitution.

The steady, pervasive censorship creep that is being inflicted on us by cor porate tech giants with the blessing of the powers-that-be threatens to bring about a restructuring of reality straight out of Orwell’s 1984, where the Ministry of Truth polices speech and ensures that facts conform to whatever version of reality the government propagandists embrace.

Orwell intended 1984 as a warning. Instead, it is being used as a dystopian instruction manual for socially engineering a populace that is compliant, conformist and obedient to Big Brother.

In a world increasingly automated and filtered through the lens of Artificial Intelligence, we are finding ourselves at the mercy of inflexible algorithms that dic tate the boundaries of our liberties.

Once Artificial Intelligence becomes a fully integrated part of the government bureaucracy, there will be little recourse: we will all be subject to the intransigent judgments of techno-rulers.

This is how it starts. First, the censors went after so-called extremists spouting so-called “Hate Speech.”

Then they went after so-called extrem ists spouting so-called “disinformation” about stolen elections, the Holocaust, and Hunter Biden. By the time so-called extremists found themselves in the crosshairs for spouting so-called “misinformation” about the

Fast forward more than 30 years, Ochoa is now a seasoned FPL Lineworker, responding to dozens of Florida Hurricanes and other major weather events over the last two decades.

He’s also been called on to support mutual assistance trips across the United States, from Wildfires in California and several Alabama Tornadoes to Hurricanes battering coastal communities. Through it all, he’s seen firsthand the importance of helping people who lost so much to nature’s fury.

“For me, it’s about going out to help those who have lost nearly everything. That’s why I go,” Ochoa said while recalling the trials of past storms, including Hurricane Ian.

He vividly remembers seeing the relief on neighbors’ faces who watched his convoy of FPL bucket trucks roll into their neighborhoods in Fort Myers. The restoration vehicles lined up in front of the power lines while lineworkers climbed and strapped into the elevated buckets with determination.

With a hydraulic hiss, the trucks extend their arms skyward, reaching toward the power lines to start the crucial work needed to illuminate homes and bring back the comforting hum of air conditioners.

“When you witness the destruction we see, then we restore power and see the happiness that follows… it’s gratifying,” said Ochoa.

At the heart of these giant machines and in the fingertips of FPL Lineworkers who return a sense of normalcy to these communities is a small computer with a great responsibility.

“The technological advancements over the years have made our jobs much easier and improved reliability for our customers,” said Ochoa “We now spend less time driving around to locate the problem and are given the visibility to pinpoint exactly where we need to be.”

Frank V. Sacco A Healthcare Pioneer

Frank V. Sacco, FACHE, a visionary healthcare leader and the Former PresiDent and CEO of Memorial Healthcare System (MHS), has died. He was 77 years old.

Mr. Sacco led Memorial for 29 years and oversaw the Hollywood-based organization’s growth from a single hospital to one of the largest public healthcare systems in South Florida. His relentless focus on safety, quality, and the highest quality patient-centered care was the foundation on which the modern-day Memorial was built. Those values and the internal culture he cultivated and instilled remain in place to this day, nearly a decade after his retirement.

“Frank Sacco’s influence and accomplishments can’t be overstated, and I’m proud to carry his legacy forward in the role where he had his greatest impact,” said Memorial Healthcare System President and CEO K. Scott Wester. “His loss is felt by all those in our Memorial family and throughout the healthcare industry.”

Mr. Sacco’s career at MHS spanned 41 years, which included several management and administrative roles prior to being named CEO in 1987. During his time at the helm, five hospitals were added, including Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital, to the original Memorial Hospital

(now Memorial Regional Hospital), and a nursing home, and primary and urgent care centers were established. At the time of his retirement in 2016, Memorial employed more than 11,000 and had grown its annual net revenue from $115 million to nearly $2 billion. “I leave with the joy of knowing that I have used every fiber in my DNA to make Memorial Healthcare System successful now and well into the future,” Mr. Sacco said at the time.

Mr. Sacco passed at home in Ormond Beach with family by his side, after a battle with cancer.

“Frank was not just a leader, but an extraordinary mentor, friend, and a champion for all those that entrust us with their care,” said Leah A. Carpenter, Memorial’s Executive Vice President & Chief Operating Officer. “He was a man of great integrity, courage, humility, and vision. If we can continue to be steadfast in the values and foundation he laid, while continuing to put the patient at the forefront of everything we do as providers, then his legacy will be fulfilled.”

Memorial was the first healthcare system in Florida to take over the delivery of primary care for the uninsured.

Other accomplishments during Mr. Sacco’s tenure included:

• The growth of clinical service lines, including cardiology, cancer, and organ transplant for adults and children, which ensured South Floridians had access to complex care close to home

• The creation of the Memorial Health Network (MHN), a physician-led, professionally managed organization that today operates a clinically integrated network uniting more than 3,000 providers and improving care delivery for nearly 300,000 patients

• Earning consistently superior rankings from Standard and Poor’s and Moody’s that solidified Memorial’s status as one of the nation’s most financially viable, safety net healthcare systems.

Dr. Stanley Marks, Former Chief Medical Officer at Memorial and a longtime colleague and friend, described Mr. Sacco as a master strategist. “It’s hard to imagine Memorial without Frank. His commitment to patients, clinical quality and safety transformed healthcare at Memorial and throughout South Florida. Some hospitals tried to emulate his vision, others tried to compete, but most realized that Memorial set a new standard for healthcare. Frank is responsible for that.” Prior to his career at Memorial, Mr. Sacco served as a commissioned officer in the Army Medical Service Corps, after

which he earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Miami and a master’s degree in healthcare management from Florida International University. He was a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives and a volunteer leader of numerous industry and community organizations.

In 2011, the South Broward Hospital District Board of Commissioners honored Mr. Sacco’s leadership and vision by naming the Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital campus for him. The previous year, Hollywood (FL) city commissioners proclaimed June 16th “Frank Sacco Day.” The list of the many other awards and accolades he earned during an illustrious career is lengthy and significant.

In addition to a loving family, Mr. Sacco leaves behind a culture of care and compassion that remains the hallmark of the Memorial Healthcare System. A Celebration of Life that is open to the public will be held Friday, September 6, at The Parker in Fort Lauderdale. The event begins at 9:00 a.m.

To honor Mr. Sacco with a donation to his preferred charity, visit the Memorial and Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital Foundations at: www.mhs.net/give-back. Select “Frank V. Sacco Fund” in the ‘Designation’ dropdown box after clicking on ‘Donate.’

How To Report Voter Registration Fraud?

Moody Keynotes Florida Tax Collectors Annual Conference and Encourages County Leaders to

At the annual conference, Attorney General Moody asked tax collectors to post the OECS information in offices across the state, so Floridians know where and how to report illegal voter registration.

Attorney General Ashley Moody last week in Orlando encouraged vigilance in spotting and reporting voter fraud at the Florida Tax Collectors Association Annual Conference. Tax Collector offices around the state are where Floridians go to interact face to face with the government. In Florida, Tax Collectors are independent constitutional officers duly elected by registered voters.

These county government leaders do more than collect taxes. In Tax Collector offices, Floridians can receive Vehicle Tags, Hunting Licenses, Driver’s Licenses and even submit Voter Registration Forms. With the 2024 presidential election

around the corner, Attorney General Moody is encouraging tax collectors to display information about Reporting Voter Registration crimes to Florida’s Voter Fraud Hotline: 1 (877) 868-3737.

Attorney General Ashley Moody said, “For many Floridians, Tax Collectors are the face of the government. Tax Collectors help them obtain their first Driver’s License and can even help them Register To Vote. Florida has taken great steps to ensure the integrity of our elections. Today, I encouraged Tax Collectors to help us keep Florida elections secure by posting information about Florida’s Voter Fraud Hotline—so Floridians know how and where to report suspicious activity.”

In 2022, Governor Ron DeSantis created the Florida Department of State’s Office of Election Crimes and Security to Conduct Preliminary Investigations into irregularities or Fraud involving Voter Registration, Coting, Candidate or Issue

Petition Activities, or any other Alleged Violations of Florida’s Election Code. According to the website, OECS has reviewed and investigated more than 3,000 complaints and allegations of Election Fraud. Additionally, OECS has initiated more than 1,300 Independent Investigations. Floridians who observe or witness a potential case of Elections Fraud can report it by calling the Voter Fraud Hotline at: 1 (877) 868-3737 or filling out an Elections Fraud Complaint by visiting: https://dos.fl.gov/offices/election-crimesand-security/ei_content/

Please fill out the form with as much information as possible, and then email the completed form and all attachments you may have to: OECSComplaints@dos.myflorida.com You may also fax the form and attachments to: (850) 245-6212. You may mail a completed form and attachments to:

At the Annual Conference, Attorney General Moody asked Tax Collectors to post the OECS information in offices across the state, so Floridians know where and how to Report Illegal Voter Registration. The call follows efforts by Attorney General Moody to encourage elected leaders to provide the public with information to anonymously report criminal activity through **TIPS and display other public-safety messages aimed at spotting and preventing consumer fraud. depreciation can quickly outpace the rate at which you’re paying down the loan.

“People don’t realize how quickly their car’s value can drop. Trade values are directly impacted as new car inventory levels balloon back up and manufacturers pump incentive dollars into the market in the form of huge rebates to maintain volume goals.” Letson notes. “It’s a cascade of setbacks that can leave you owing thousands more than your car is worth.”

Negative equity only becomes a significant issue when it’s time to trade in or sell your vehicle. If you owe more on your car loan than the car is worth, you’re faced with a difficult choice: either pay the difference out of pocket or roll the negative equity into a new loan, which often leads to an even deeper financial hole.

This situation is becoming increasingly common as the average length of car loans stretches to five, six, or even seven years. While longer loan terms might make monthly payments more manageable, they also increase the risk of falling into negative equity.

“Extending the loan term can seem like a good idea at first,” explains Letson. “However, the longer the loan, the greater the risk of being underwater on your car. We’re seeing a trend where even wellprepared buyers are caught off guard.”

Given these challenges, many experts are now advising consumers to consider leasing as a more viable option. Leasing, unlike traditional financing, allows you to drive a new car every few years without the long-term commitment of ownership. While leasing does come with its own set of considerations, it offers several advantages that can help mitigate the risks associated with negative equity.

“Leasing can be a much safer financial choice for many people,” explains Letson. “It allows you to avoid the pitfalls of longterm loans and the uncertainty of car depreciation.”

The leases our parents and grandparents cautioned us about no longer exist. There are several major advantages to leasing in today’s market, mainly, mitigating risk for the consumer. The leasing company takes all of the risk when they establish a residual, which is essentially their best guess at what the vehicle will be worth in the future. Consumers then pay only for the first couple years of use, and then choose between three possible outcomes at the end of their lease: 1. Buy it out for the guaranteed residual

that they established up front.

2. Trade it in for current market value (this works when there is positive equity just as if they had purchased the vehicle).

3. Turn it in and avoid any negative equity caused by unforeseen market shifts like we are in today.

“With leasing, you have a built-in exit strategy,” Letson points out. “You’re not locked into a situation where you owe more than your car is worth.” Leasing also typically involves lower monthly payments than financing a purchase, which can free up cash for other expenses or savings. Additionally, because lease terms are generally shorter - around two to three yearsyou can upgrade to a newer model more frequently, benefiting from the latest tech-

nology and safety features, all while maintaining manufacturer comprehensive warranty coverage which keeps your total cost of ownership down.

“Leasing keeps you in a newer, more reliable car,” says Letson. “And with the pace of technological advancements in the auto industry, that’s a significant advantage.”

The Case for Leasing Over Financing

For many consumers, the idea of owning a car is appealing, but the reality is that ownership comes with significant financial risks, especially in today’s unpredictable market. Leasing offers a way to enjoy the benefits of driving a new car without the long-term financial commitment and the risks associated with depre-

ciation and negative equity.

“Car ownership isn’t what it used to be,” Letson reflects. “Leasing provides a flexible alternative that can save you money and reduce financial stress. However, it’s important to consider your individual needs and circumstances when deciding whether to lease or finance. Leasing may not be the best choice for everyone, particularly if you drive a lot of miles each year or prefer to keep your car for a long time. But for those who value flexibility and want to avoid the financial pitfalls of car ownership, leasing can be a smart alternative.” “There’s no one-sizefits-all answer,” Letson acknowledges. “But for many people, leasing is a far better option in today’s market than taking on the risk of a long-term car loan.”

Serving Broward County’s Underserved Youth

Museum of Discovery & Science Receives Nasa Stem Grant

The Museum of Discovery and Science

(MODS) has received a Community Anchor Award from the NASA Office of STEM Engagement. This funding will both bolster the Museum’s impact on underserved youth in Broward County and transform it into a regional NASA STEM informal education community resource. MODS’ award is part of NASA’s $3.7 million grant funding to 17 museums, science centers, and other informal education institutions as part of their TEAM II initiative to ignite STEM excitement. It is one of 13 institutions across the country to share $510,000 in NASA Community Anchor Award funds.

“We are over the moon to have been awarded this prestigious NASA grant,” said Joseph P. Cox, President and CEO of MODS. “This funding will allow us to increase Museum access and offer inquiry-based learning experiences for underrepresented youth via MODS STEM outreach efforts at no cost. By enhancing our local impact and strengthening sustainable connections between the Broward community and NASA, we seek

to ignite, instill and further a passion for space science and STEM in the next generation of explorers.”

MODS’ Community Anchor Award programming will impact 500 learners by providing two STEMobile outreach programs with a NASA-driven curriculum and one mobile GeoDome planetarium program. Fifty additional students will participate in a Kennedy Space Center field trip to explore the facility and engage with NASA.

MODS will partner with Title I schools in low-income zip codes to deliver programs to youth most in need including girls, minorities and low-income youth. Outreach programs will be delivered by trained MODS STEM educators via the MODS STEMobile, which delivers projectbased learning experiences to 75,000 learners annually across Broward County – 90% of which are delivered at no cost to low-income and underserved youth. All programs follow the Authentic STEM Experience (ASE) framework, actively engaging youth in collaborative, developmentally appropriate experiences that

generate real-world understanding.

“We’re excited to grow the community of informal education organizations through these awards,” said Torry Johnson, Deputy Associate Administrator of STEM Engagement Programs at NASA Headquarters in Washington. “These organizations bring the excitement of STEM and spaceflight to students where they are, helping us inspire the Artemis Generation of future explorers and innovators. These awards are a real catalyst for partnerships that connect STEM education and NASA’s missions to communities across the nation.”

The Museum of Discovery and Science Founded in 1976 as the Discovery Center, today the Museum of Discovery and Science (MODS) is at the forefront of science education, innovation and exploration. Have People’s Perceptions Changed?

Three Florida Retreats Emerge As Top Choices For Vacation Home Buyers

The Hamptons, Miami Beach, and Malibu have long been dream vacation destinations for many aspiring vacation homeowners. However, with large parts of America having experienced unrelenting heatwaves, Agent Advice, a real estate resources website, wanted to explore whether people’s perceptions of ideal vacation home locations have changed. Traditionally coveted beach destinations may now be less desirable due to Global Warming and recent extreme heat, prompting a shift in preference towards

hot tubs, and stunning views of the lake or surrounding mountains. Located in the San Bernardino Mountains, Big Bear Lake enjoys cooler temperatures during summer due to its high elevation.

At a high elevation in the Rocky Mountains, Big Sky benefits from cooler summer temperatures, perfect for those looking for a luxurious mountain retreat with opportunities for outdoor recreation.

#6 Moosehead Lake (Greenville), Maine

boasts some of the state’s highest elevations, offering a unique landscape with rolling hills and numerous lakes.

Surrounded by pristine forests and crystal-clear waters, Moosehead Lake is a hidden gem in the North Woods of Maine. Vacation properties here exude New England character, with options including historic lakeside camps and modern eco-

cooler locales. They ran a survey of 3,000 Americans to determine the most soughtafter cooler destinations where people now aspire to own vacation homes. The top 10 were as follows:

#1 Aspen, Colorado

Nestled in the Rocky Mountains at an elevation of 8,000 feet, Aspen emerged top as the most coveted location for vacation homes. This winter wonderland turned year-round retreat offers a diverse array of properties, from opulent mountain estates to charming ski chalets. Aspen’s allure lies not only in its luxurious amenities but also in its refreshing summer climate and world-class outdoor activities. #2 Big Bear Lake, California In second place,

#3 Homer, Alaska Homer, ranked third, offers diverse vacation properties. This Alaskan gem features an assortment of unique properties, including off-grid wilderness cabins and elegant waterfront homes. Homer’s moderate maritime climate and endless summer days make it an ideal escape for those seeking adventure and tranquility.

#4 Seward, Alaska Gateway to Kenai Fjords National Park, Seward combines rugged natural beauty with small-town charm. Vacation properties in this coastal haven range from quaint fisherman’s cottages to luxurious mountain lodges. Seward’s mild summers and proximity to glaciers, wildlife, and outdoor pursuits make it a cool paradise for nature enthusiasts.

#5 Big Sky, Montana

Big Sky offers a variety of vacation properties such as luxury condos, modern homes, and rustic cabins. Properties typically include spacious yards, scenic views, and proximity to outdoor activities.

friendly retreats. The region’s cool summers and abundant wildlife create an idyllic setting for outdoor recreation and relaxation.

#7 Shaver Lake, California

This picturesque destination features a variety of vacation homes, from rustic Aframe cabins to spacious lakefront properties. With its elevated position and dense forests, Shaver Lake provides a cool sanctuary for water sports enthusiasts and hikers alike.

#8 Highlands County (Lake Placid), Florida Lake Placid in Highlands County offers various vacation properties, including lakefront homes, modern cottages, and charming bungalows. These properties often feature large yards, scenic views, and easy access to local lakes. Positioned in central Florida, Highlands County

#9 Mount Rainier (Ashford), Washington Situated at the doorstep of Mount Rainier National Park, Ashford serves as a base camp for wilderness adventures. Vacation homes in this area blend seamlessly with the natural surroundings, offering options like treehouse-inspired cabins and mountain-view lodges. Ashford’s proximity to glaciers and old-growth forests ensures cool summers and unparalleled natural beauty.

#10 Deep Creek Lake, Maryland Rounding up the top ten, Deep Creek Lake offers vacation properties including lakefront homes, modern cabins, and charming cottages. These properties often have private docks, large decks, and views of the lake. The large lake and the higher elevation of the surrounding area help maintain cooler summer temperatures, ideal for those seeking a lakeside retreat with options for boating, fishing, and other outdoor activities.

Florida had 2 other soughtafter cool weather locations for owning a vacation property:

#65 Lake Wales Ridge Lake Wales Ridge offers a variety of vacation properties including charming cottages, modern homes, and ranchstyle houses. Properties often feature large yards, scenic views of the rolling hills, and proximity to local lakes. Located in the central part of the state, the Lake Wales Ridge area has some of the highest elevations in Florida, with rolling hills that provide a unique landscape. This makes it ideal for those seeking a rural retreat with access to outdoor activities like hiking, bird watching, and exploring nearby nature preserves.

#76 Brooksville (Hernando County) Brooksville features vacation properties such as historic homes & buildings, modern ranch-style houses, and charming cottages. Many properties have large yards, scenic views, and proximity to local parks and nature preserves. Brooksville is located in one of the more elevated areas of Florida, with rolling hills and a slightly cooler climate than the surrounding lowlands.

“As extreme heatwaves become more common, we are seeing a notable shift in vacation home preferences. Cooler destinations at altitude or near lakes are now top choices for those looking to escape the heat while enjoying luxurious and scenic retreats.” says Jim Gray of Agent Advice.

#8 - Positioned in central Florida, Lake Placid in Highlands County boasts some of the state’s highest elevations, offering a unique landscape with rolling hills, and Florida charm.

Received My Proposed Tax Bill; Now What?

This past week the property appraiser

sent out what is called a proposed tax bill.

This is not a bill, just a statement and notice of the public hearings. When we set the tentative rate in June it was a reduction. This bill reflects the fact that we reduced Taxes but that was with a Tax Rate of 7.9. Last month we reduced the Tax Rate even further to 7.5 so your bill will be lower than the proposed.

When you read your bill, it begins with the last year’s rate then the proposed. While the rate is reduced due to property values and save our homes cap of 3% each bill is a bit different. Some will show decreases, some even with homestead may show a slight dollar increase. The very last column is a closer projection to what your actual Municipal Taxes will be. It shows if no budget changes were made. This is called a roll back rate of 7.5884 and the value in the very last column will show the closest estimate of your Taxes for 2024-2025. The system is a bit different if you are new to the area. There are multiple taxing agencies that set various

Schools and City, there is a Debt Service.

This is a charge to pay back bonds. Ours is for the Government Obligation Bond GO Bond for our parks. This rate as well was reduced.

For residents that are living in one of our two Safe Neighborhood Districts there was no change in the Tax Rate but due to property value increases there is a change in taxes collected. Safe Neighborhood Taxing Districts are areas designated to provide an additional overlay of security measures paid for solely by the property owners in the district.

The proposed Tax Bill also provides the date and time of all Public Hearings that are mandated to be held by each taxing agency. Our meeting will be held on September 12th at 5:05 p.m. All of our Budget information can be found online at: https://www.cohb.org/1195/Budgetand-Program-Monitoring. We are proud that we have an interactive portal that provides not just access but transparency so our residents can work within the Budget Documents.

One of the districts is Three Islands

Parkview Drive, Leslie Drive and just east of the fixed bridge on Atlantic Shores. The district borders Hollywood. The district has unmanned guardhouses and gates. They also have additional roving security.

The district has adopted a master plan to add traffic calming, upgrades to the guardhouse guard arms and other improvements to the entrances; this plan has been on hold until the underground utilities are completed. The two major projects for utility upgrades are in design. One is the Sanitary Sewer Lift Station and the other is a New Water Line Service. The goal is to have them bid by January with construction in July into 2026. Once they are complete, the plan is to start the SND Project.

Golden Isles is another district which is located on Layne Boulevard. This is much different than TISND as there is only one way in and one way out. It encompasses Single Family Homes and five, Two to Three Story Condominium Buildings South of Golden Isles Park. There is a staffed guardhouse and a roving Hallandale Beach off Duty police officer from 10:00 p.m. – 7:00 a.m.

GISND is in the process of implementing a Master Plan as well. It includes what

it termed complete streets. This area was developed house by house, so there were never unified lights and sidewalks. Since 2007 there has been a desire to implement the plan, but I do not have the political will. It was not until recently with the regentrification of the neighborhood that has brought with it the strong majority with desire to make much needed improvements. The vision for the district took place over the past year and the next step is the planning of probable costs. Layne Boulevard is currently under construction for a 16-Inch Water Main and the Egret Drive Lift Station is also being replaced. Next summer the city will be replacing lines on Holiday Drive. Like TISND work will not be done above ground until the Infrastructure is completed.

Please do not forget the Budget Public Hearing on September 12th at 5:05 p.m.

On Monday, September 9th, the City of Hollywood will hold events to mark the milestones of two major projects, both made possible by the 2019 voterapproved General Obligation Bond. The day will begin with the Groundbreaking Ceremony for the new Hollywood Police Department Headquarters at 10 a.m. at 400 Entrada Drive. This long-awaited project will usher in the construction of a state-of-the-art, approximately 100,000 sq ft facility, which will be built just south of the current headquarters. The new building will feature a secured parking structure, a new radio tower, and all the essential public safety equipment necessary to support the

Department’s evolving needs for years to come. The project is expected to be completed by Q2 of 2026. Attendees can find public and media parking available at the Orangebrook Golf and Country Club parking lots, as well as along Entrada Drive. Later that day, at 4 p.m., the festivities will continue with the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at the newly renovated Armory Community Center at Dowdy Field, located at 906 N. Dixie Highway. The park itself was named after Earl T. “Pop” Dowdy, a well-loved manager of the town’s Piggly Wiggly grocery store and a passionate supporter of local baseball leagues. Located in the city’s southcentral section on Johnson Street, Dowdy

Field was a symbol of community spirit and shared experiences for decades. Adjacent to Dowdy Field stood the National Guard Armory, originally built in 1954 by the United States Army and home to the Florida National Guard’s First Battalion 124th Infantry until 2018, this historic building has been transformed into a dynamic and modern indoor sports complex and community center. The nearly 7,000 sq ft of revitalized space now includes a regulation basketball court, two soccer goals, a regulation volleyball court, and retractable batting cages for pitching and batting practice. The facility also boasts ADA-compliant restrooms, office space, a break room, and flexible com-

munity meeting rooms. Event parking will be available on a first-come, first-served basis in the Armory and Dowdy Field parking lots, as well as along N 22nd Avenue. The City of Hollywood invites all community members to join in these momentous events as we celebrate both the groundbreaking of a crucial public safety facility and the completion of a vibrant community hub, both of which promise to enhance the quality of life for all Hollywood residents. A Triumphant Survivor

Pens New Memoir To Inspire Anyone Dealing With Difficult Circumstances

Like a lot of 20-somethings, Adam Elnekaveh felt bulletproof. His love of fitness and passion for adventure had led him to Thailand, where he took a risk and went helmetless on a motorcycle. He doesn’t remember the devastating accident that left him with a traumatic brain injury and paralysis on his left side.

Defying all odds, the former bodybuilder now lives an independent life after being declared brain dead, but Elnekaveh says his transformation is so much more than physical. His biggest breakthroughs, he says, revolve around mindset and motivation.

In his new book, Rebuilding Adam: The Tragedy, he recounts his fall from famous fitness influencer to the devastation of losing his most basic bodily functions, and his long, tedious road to recovery — both physical and mental. He gets candid about seldom-discussed side effects of profound physical changes, including how his injured state impacted his relationships.

Through the raw honesty of his reflections, Elnekaveh invites readers to bear witness to his struggles to regain speech, mobility and a sense of normalcy while navigating the complexities of personal relationships. This tale of resilience and hope showcases one man’s remarkable transformation from the

depths of despair to surpassing all expectations.

In Rebuilding Adam: The Tragedy, readers will discover:

• Pure Inspiration: Elnekaveh’s relentless journey from the brink of death to rebuilding his life.

• Raw and Honest Account: Of what it takes for a person to rebuild a life from scratch.

• Mindset Mastery: Strategies for focusing and channeling your mindset to achieve your goals.

• Changing Perspectives: A story that will shift how people perceive adversity, achievement and the power of the human spirit.

This is more than a memoir; it’s a testament to the unyielding strength of the human spirit and a guide for anyone facing their own battles. “It’s not just my story,” Elnekaveh added. “It’s a story dedicated to the people every year who are forced to rebuild their lives and start everything all over again. I hope that this memoir can provide comfort, guidance and a small glimmer of light in even the darkest moments.”

About the Author Adam Elnekaveh is a former bodybuilder and fitness influencer who was just two months away from launching his first fitness app when he sustained a severe traumatic brain injury in a tragic motorcycle accident in May 2018. He continues to defy the predictions made by his doctors, and today, he is an Author and Motivational Speaker who delivers his raw, unbiased account of his recovery with a wit and warmth that truly inspires and energizes.

Miami Native & Krop High School Graduate

Serves The Country Aboard A Navy Warship In The Pacific Northwest

Petty

Castaneda, a native of Miami, Florida, serves aboard USS Barry, a U.S. Navy Warship homeported at Naval Station Everett, Washington. The ship is currently in a Seattle shipyard undergoing routine maintenance.

Castaneda graduated from Dr. Michael Krop High School in 2008.

The skills and values needed to succeed in the Navy are similar to those found in Miami.

“Growing up, I learned the importance of hard work, dedication and an optimistic attitude,” said Castaneda. “My parents taught me to remember my main goal in life.”

Castaneda joined the Navy 10 years ago. Today, Castaneda serves as a Ggas Turbine Systems Technician (electrical).

“I tried college but wasn’t sure it was the right path for me,” said Castaneda. “My mom suggested that I join the military.”

A Navy Destroyer is a multi-mission ship that can operate independently or as part of a larger group of ships at sea. The ship is equipped with Tomahawk Missiles, Torpedoes, Guns and a Phalanx Close-In

Weapons System.

More than 300 sailors serve aboard Barry. Their jobs are highly specialized, requiring both dedication and skill. The jobs range from maintaining engines to handling weaponry along with a multitude of other assignments that keep the ship mission-ready at all times, according to Navy Officials.

With 90% of global commerce traveling by sea and access to the internet relying on the security of Undersea Fiber Optic Cables, Navy Officials continue to empha size that the prosperity of the United States is directly linked to recruiting and retaining talented people from across the rich fabric of America.

“We will earn and reinforce the trust and confidence of the American people every day,” said Admiral Lisa Franchetti, Chief of Naval Operations. “Together we will deliver the Navy the nation needs.”

Castaneda has many opportunities to achieve accomplishments during military service.

“I was named Sailor of the Year in 2019 at Assault Craft Unit (ACU) Four, which was my first command,” said Castaneda.

Castaneda serves a Navy that operates far forward, around the world and around the clock, promoting the nation’s prosper ity and security.

“Serving in the Navy has helped me grow as an individual and allows me to be part of something bigger to help my com munity and country,” said Castaneda.

Castaneda is grateful to others for helping make a Navy career possible.

“I want to thank my mom, dad and sis ter for always being there for me,” added Castaneda.
