Tracy Jones Makes Its Debut A New Comedy About Friendship, Connection And Chicken Wings
A Touching Story Of Individual Connection In An Increasingly Complicated World
It’s Tracy Jones and Tracy Jones and Tracy Jones! In Island City Stage’s newest comedy production, Tracy Jones by Stephen Kaplan, the lonely eponymous character throws a party inviting every other woman with the same name to join her for chicken wings and beer! Part of National New Play Network Rolling World Premiere in three different cities, this touching story of individual connection in an increasingly complicated world hits the South Florida stage from Thursday, May 18th, 2023 – Sunday, June 18th, 2023.
“We’re thrilled to showcase this hilarious new comedy. When I first read Tracy Jones, I instantly related to its four misfit characters all searching for true personal connections,” said Andy Rogow, Artistic Director of Island City Stage. “It’s an especially meaningful play in a world filled with zoom meetings and cocooning at home. In a bizarre moment of life imitating art, a recent New York Times article documented a party created in Brooklyn for all individuals named Ryan – and no one showed up! This is truly a play that will appeal to all audiences.”

Steve Solomon’s Award-Winning oneperson comedic tour-de-force will be back at the Broward Center for a limited 2show engagement on Thursday, April 20th, 2023 and Friday, April 21st, 2023.
A native of Brooklyn, Steve grew up in the multi-ethnic neighborhood of Sheepshead Bay. This was the perfect training ground for a dialectician and comedian. Steve learned at an early age how to use his gift for imitating accents to his advantage. Using his gift for mimicry, he would fool most people with his antics.
Steve remembers the day he played “hooky” from school. Back then the Truant Officer would call each parent and verify the fact that their child was home.
Steve, using a rough growly voice, took the initiative and called the school. He asked for the Truant Officer’s Office. The officer answered, “Can I help you?” Steve, using as deep a voice as he could muster said, “Yes, Steve won’t be able to come into school today, he’s sick.” The Truant Officer said, “And who am I talking to?” Steve cleared his throat and answered, “Um, this is my father speaking!”
He also realized that he was a prolific writer of jokes and stories; real jokes and cranked them out for special events at the

Tracy Jones is having a major life crisis. Her job at the bank is taking her nowhere, her panic attacks are getting worse and having such a common name is giving her an identity crisis. With everything spiraling out of control around her, it’s time to find something she can take control of. That’s when it hits her; she’s going to throw a party to celebrate every woman named Tracy Jones. After an extensive marketing campaign that included tracking down others by the same name, posters and a Facebook event, the party is finally here. The Funtime Party Zone at the Jones Street Bar & Grill is all set up and Tracy is eagerly awaiting her guests.
Stephen Kaplan is an Award-Winning Playwright with productions off-Broadway and in regional theaters, nationally. Solomon’s humor is universal and universally loved. Enhanced by his talent for impersonation and his mastery of different dialects – he does approximately 20 different characters and voices in his shows – his stories about his Mixed Heritage Italian/Jewish Family resonate with everyone, no matter what their ethnicity and have delighted and entertained audiences for thousands of performances. The show, which is constantly evolving, has been updated and is, as audiences will attest, “funnier than ever!” Uncle Willie, Stuttering Cousin Bob, Demented Cousin Kenny, Steve’s new therapist Cousin Sal (and Sal’s parole officer) and a myriad of other astounding characters will populate the Amaturo Stage during his performances. The show is now one of the longest running one-man comedies in history!

New Hours In Hollywood
Hollywood Sun Shuttle West On-Demand “Fixed Stop” Shuttle Service
The City of Hollywood recently expanded the Sun Shuttle Micro-Transit Service to West Hollywood with a twomonth pilot community shuttle service operated by Circuit. The trial period runs through Wednesday, May 31st, 2023. Due to user feedback, the operation hours have been changed to 6 days a week, Monday through Saturday, from 2:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Upon request, a 12-person passenger van picks up and drops off passengers at any of the 18 predetermined high-volume locations in Hollywood, West of I-95 between Johnson and Washington Streets to the Florida Turnpike. The Sun Shuttle West is an on-demand service, meaning shuttles will only visit designated pick-up/ drop-off locations when a ride has been requested for that location. Riders are discouraged from waiting at a location without first making a request via the mobile application. Riders can download the “Ride Circuit” application to request a ride. Fares are set at $2 per person per ride, however if space is available, a person can ride to wherever the shuttle is already going free of charge.

Add Mediterranean Flair To Your Dinner Table
(Family Features) During the past year, many people have missed the opportunity to travel and experience the sights, sounds and tastes of the world, but it’s easy to explore other cultures and cuisines by experimenting in the kitchen.
If you’re looking to transport your taste buds to the shores of Spain or the beaches of Greece, one of the best places to start is with the Mediterranean Diet. Renowned Chef Geoffrey Zakarian recommends these tips to help home cooks elevate their dishes and easily incorporate the popular diet into everyday cooking.
Reach for Pantry Staples. There’s no single definition of the Mediterranean Diet, but it’s high in Vegetables, Fruits, Whole Grains, Nuts, Seeds, Olive Oil and Seafood. By keeping your pantry stocked with canned versions of ingredients like Beans and Fish you can easily add them to your favorite dishes. Yellowfin Tuna Pasta Salad with Arugula Pesto and Dates and Tuna Aioli Dip with Balsamic Drizzle are flavorful ways to bring Mediterranean flair to your dinner table.
Add Seafood. Eating more Seafood is one of the leading principles of the Mediterranean Diet. Tuna Salad is one tried-and-true dish that can help incorporate Fish into your menu. To make it more nutritious, opt for Tuna that’s packed in Extra-Virgin Olive Oil, so you don’t have to add much Mayo to the base. For example, Genova Premium Tuna provides a tasteful addition to recipes and is high in Protein, a great source of Omega-3’s and has a uniquely rich and savory flavor that offers a taste of the Mediterranean in every bite.
Visit: www.GenovaSeafood.com for more recipe inspirations.

AHeart-Healthy Family Meal
(Family Features) Making small changes to focus on your health, like following a healthy eating plan, can make a big difference in protecting your heart.
Developed by the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute, Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (DASH) is a flexible and balanced eating plan that helps create a heart-healthy eating style for life. It requires no special foods and instead provides daily and weekly nutritional goals to help lower two major risk factors for Heart Disease: High Blood Pressure and high LDL (bad) Cholesterol.
As an added bonus, sharing DASHfriendly meals with your loved ones can help take the guesswork out of putting nutritious dinners on your family’s table.
For example, this easy and delicious Turkey and Beef Meatballs with WholeWheat Spaghetti recipe is one the entire family can help prepare.
In addition to following a healthy eating plan, other self-care habits like taking time daily to destress, being more physically active and getting enough quality sleep can all benefit your heart. It’s also important to know what your Blood Pressure, Cholesterol and Blood Sugar Levels are and what a healthy weight is for you.

A Celebration of Women We All Need To Know One Good Deed Can Change The World
By Hallandale Beach Mayor, Joy Cooper
Last month there were many events to celebrate Women. Representative Marie Woodson hosted her 2nd Exceptional Women Awards Luncheon here in Hallandale Beach. While the luncheon was to honor others Marie Woodson is worthy of the award herself. She was born in Port-de-Paix, Haiti and moved to the states in 1981. She lives in Hollywood, Florida and is married to Bob and is the mother of two successful children.
Representative Woodson has earned numerous degrees, an A.S. in Public Administration from Miami-Dade College in 1984, a B.S. in Criminal Justice from Florida International University in 1987, and an M.S. in Public Administration/ Management from St. Thomas University in 1994. Her career experience includes working as a Public Administrator in Miami-Dade. She is a fierce defender of our Veterans, seniors and the underserved.
The goal she has always embraced is public service. The goal of the event was to recognize women that are the unsung shero’s in her district. All these women have come from different walks of life and are all ages. In Marie’s words, “...I continue to be proud and delighted to have met many individuals who do what is required to impact lives in an exceptional way.” Thank you Marie Woodson for your exceptional service.
Honorees include Dr. Emeline AlexisSchulz who helped to put together “Serving All On Thanksgiving.” Sandra Alvarado-Raymond, LMHC, who as Paralegal helped many with counseling and turned this experience into a mentoring nonprofit. Gloria Binns who provides food and outreach for the poor. From Hallandale Beach Laqueshia Brinson who has created an amazing after school club GLOW Girls Leading Our World and DEAL Doing Everything to Achieve Leadership. Erika Rojas, who also does amazing outreach in our city with a focus on domestic violence and helping children every year at our Hepburn Center. Laurie Schecter is an activist who has founded
an organization for ethical common good across sectors with a focus on government. Angela Smith hosts an annual tea to raise scholarship funds for needy students and provide food for the homeless. Lynn Smith is the first woman bank chair, Author and Mentor. Nadeige Sterlin, MPA with Degrees in Business and world experience that she applies on many boards that help the underserved. Cynthia Strachan, singer and historian, focused on and preserving the history of Carver Ranches. She wrote and produced “Their Story is Our Story.”
It was such an honor to take part in this event. We all need to know one good deed can change the world. As women leaders we need to continue to encourage future generations that they do have the power to fulfill their dreams. Also as women they can harness the backing of others to reach their goals.
The celebration of women continued the following Friday at Hallandale High School. Assistant Principal Ms. Sherman under the leadership of Principal Howard invited women leaders from all professions to a morning breakfast. The goal for each invitee was to address Women’s Empowerment through EmpowerHER Dialogues. We kicked off with an All
Fake News Curated
By The Deep State Government Spin Doctors Control The News Cycle
By John & Nisha Whitehead
Let’s talk about fake news stories, shall we?
There’s the garden variety fake news that is not really “news” so much as it is titillating, tabloid-worthy material peddled by anyone with a Twitter Account, a Facebook Page and an active imagination. These stories run the gamut from the ridiculous and the obviously clickbaity to the satirical and politically manipulative. Anyone with an ounce of sense and access to the Internet should be able to ferret out the truth and lies in these stories with some basic research.
Then there’s the more devious kind of news stories circulated by one of the biggest propagators of fake news: the U.S. Government.
In the midst of the government and corporate media’s carefully curated apoplexy over fake news, you won’t hear much about the government’s own role in producing, planting and peddling propaganda-driven fake news—often with the help of the corporate news media— because that’s not how the game works.
Why?
Because the powers-that-be don’t want us skeptical of the government’s message or its corporate accomplices in the mainstream media. They don’t want us to be more discerning when it comes to what information we digest online. They just want us to be leery of independent or alternative news sources while trusting them and their corporate colleagues to vet the news for us.
Indeed, in recent years, Facebook and Google have conveniently appointed themselves the arbiters of truth on the internet in order to screen out what is blatantly false, spam or click-baity.
Not only does this establish a dangerous precedent for all-out censorship by corporate entities known for colluding with the government but it’s also a slick sleight-of-hand maneuver that diverts attention from what we should really be talking about: the fact that the government has grown dangerously out-ofcontrol, all the while the so-called mainstream news media, which is supposed to act as a bulwark against government propaganda, has instead become the mouthpiece of the world’s largest cor-
poration, the U.S. Government.
As Veteran Journalist Carl Bernstein, who along with Bob Woodward blew the lid off the Watergate Scandal, reported in his expansive 1977 Rolling Stone piece, “The CIA And The Media:”
“More than 400 American journalists … in the past twenty-five years have secretly carried out assignments for the Central Intelligence Agency... There was cooperation, accommodation and overlap. Journalists provided a full range of clandestine services... Reporters shared their notebooks with the CIA. Editors shared their staff. Some of the journalists were Pulitzer Prize Winners, distinguished reporters... In many instances, CIA documents show, journalists were engaged to perform tasks for the CIA with the consent of the management of America’s leading news organizations.”
Bernstein is referring to Operation Mockingbird, a CIA Campaign started in the 1950’s to plant intelligence reports among reporters at more than 25 major newspapers and wire agencies, who would then regurgitate them for a public oblivious to the fact that they were being fed government propaganda.
In some instances, as Bernstein shows, members of the media also served as extensions of the surveillance state, with reporters actually carrying out assignments for the CIA.
In fact, in August 1964, the nation’s leading newspapers—including The Washington Post and New York Times— echoed Lyndon Johnson’s claim that North Vietnam had launched a second round of attacks against American Destroyers in the Gulf of Tonkin. No such attacks had taken place and yet the damage was done. As Jeff Cohen and Norman Solomon report for Fairness and Accuracy in Reporting, “By reporting official claims as absolute truths, American journalism opened the floodgates for the bloody Vietnam War.”
Fast forward to the early Post-9/11 years when, despite a lack of any credible data supporting the existence of weapons of mass destruction, the mainstream media jumped on the bandwagon to sound the war drums against Iraq. As Los Angeles Times Columnist Robin Abcarian put it, “our government … used its
Each kicked off with Keynote Speakers who shared their life story. The groups all in round one discussed the obstacles the ladies thought were in their way of achieving their dreams. The second was how can we all unite in helping to build selfconfidence. The final few minutes we all held an open discussion.
I thoroughly enjoyed speaking with these young ladies. All in all, they knew what they wanted to do after school. They asked me when I was their age, if I had a plan to be a mayor. I get asked that quite often in these settings. So I told them no, but what I did before being a Mayor and then I decided to commit myself to Public
Service. After the discussion I had a chance to make sure they met a mentor for their career goals. One wanted to go into the FBI. Another wanted to go into hairdressing. Another young lady wanted to go to college for technology. Others
Sadly, just like all other teenagers they are struggling with social issues. Having tion was very eye opening. Many spoke about social media and pressures of bullying among themselves as girls. Principal Howard was right on point with this event. The mentors all agreed we need more of these types of interactions. Not only to help prevent isolation but to really help bring exposure to various careers and how to attain them.
Our schools are always looking for volunteers and mentors. I encourage our readers to think about helping our young students. It is rewarding and certainly makes a huge impact on our children. We have many schools but our two main campuses are Hallandale High School and Gulfstream Academy K-8.
to administration insiders or susceptible to the drumbeat of the government’s coordinated rhetoric.”
If it was happening then, you can bet it’s still happening today, only it’s been reclassified, renamed and hidden behind layers of government secrecy, obfuscation and spin. In its article, “How the American Government is trying to control what you think,” The Washington Post points out “Government agencies historically have made a habit of crossing the blurry line between informing the public and propagandizing.”
Thus, whether you’re talking about the Cold War, the Vietnam War, the Gulf War, the government’s invasion of Iraq based upon absolute fabrications, the RussoUkrainian War or the government’s ongoing war on terror, privacy and whistleblowers, it’s being driven by propaganda churned out by one corporate machine (the corporate-controlled government) and fed to the American people by way of yet another corporate machine (the corporate-controlled media).
“For the first time in human history, there is a concerted strategy to manipulate global perception and the mass media are operating as its compliant assistants, failing both to resist it and to expose it,” writes Investigative Journalist Nick Davies. “The sheer ease with which this machinery has been able to do its work reflects a creeping structural weakness which now afflicts the production of our news.”
But wait. If the mass media—aka the mainstream media or the corporate or estab-
lishment media—is merely repeating what minds within the government responsible for this propaganda?
Davies explains:
The Pentagon has now designated “information operations” as its fifth “core competency” alongside land, sea, air and special forces. Since October 2006, every brigade, division and corps in the U.S. Military has had its own “psyop” element producing output for local media. This military activity is linked to the State Department’s Campaign of “public diplomacy” which includes funding radio stations and news websites.
This use of propaganda disguised as journalism is what Journalist John Pilger refers to as “invisible government… the true ruling power of our country.”
We no longer have a Fourth Estate.
Not when the “news” we receive is routinely manufactured, manipulated and made-to-order by government agents.
Not when six corporations control 90% of the media in America.
And not, as I make clear in my book Battlefield America: The War on the American People and in its fictional counterpart The Erik Blair Diaries, when media outlets have become propagandists for the false reality created by the American Government.

Potatoscopes: What Your Astrological Sign Says About Your Taste In Spuds
(BPT) - Potatoes are America’s favorite vegetable, and it’s easy to see why. They’re delicious, nutritious and affordable. But with so many options, deciding how to eat them can be tough. So why don’t you let your astrological sign guide you to the spuds you’ll love the most?
Spring signs
Fire sign Aries loves spicy Cajun fries. Aries also rules energy levels, which means they know complex carbs like potatoes are our brain’s primary fuel and a key source of energy for our muscles.
Dependable Taurus craves the comfort of potatoes au gratin and splurges on the finest Gruyère cheese. As an earth sign, they know that potatoes are good for the planet, producing the most food with the least amount of water of any major crop.
Social butterfly Gemini has a killer potato salad recipe they love to share at parties. Naturally curious, Gemini appreciates the fun fact that potatoes have 3 grams of plant-based protein, more than any other commonly eaten vegetables except for dried beans.
Summer signs
Traditional, nostalgic Cancer is all about mashed potatoes, which bring back happy memories of family meals. Cancer also rules the stomach, so they love that the resistant starch in potatoes is beneficial for gut bacteria.
Leo prefers the dramatic shape of the Hasselback potato, which brings flare to any plate. As the ruler of the heart, Leo also knows that skin-on potatoes rank highest in potassium among the 20 topselling fruits and vegetables, which research suggests may reduce the risk of stroke and help maintain lower blood pressure.
Practical Virgo uses their own no-fail technique to roast enough potatoes for dinner plus more left over for bowls and burritos later in the week. Virgo also knows potatoes count toward the 2-3
servings of vegetables they meticulously eat daily.
Autumn signs
Symmetry-loving Libra appreciates the two matching halves of a baked potato sliced down the middle, but the number of potential topping choices can leave them feeling a bit indecisive! The Libra scales can also measure that a medium (5.3 ounce) skin-on potato provides nearly one-third of our daily Vitamin C.
Scorpio has the patience to make the viral sensation 15-hour potato, which, like them, is crispy on the outside but soft on the inside. Made of tough stuff, Scorpio also likes that a medium, skin-on potato has 7% of their daily fiber.
Avid traveler Sagittarius is fond of Niçoise salad, with every bite of potatoes and Tuna transporting them to the south of France. Since they’re always on the go, Sagittarius knows studies indicate potatoes may stave off hunger better than other sides like pasta, rice and bread.
Winter signs
Ambitious Capricorn needs delicious, nutritious fuel to start their busy day, which is why they love hashbrowns. Ever budget-conscious, Capricorn also likes that potatoes deliver more nutrients per penny than most other vegetables.
Nonconformist Aquarius isn’t content
with a standard potato dish, instead preferring gnocchi paired with a bold sauce. They also like sharing the surprising fact that a medium skin-on potato has as much iron as a large egg or serving of roasted skin-on chicken (3 oz.).
Water sign Pisces loves the soothing warmth of potato soup, which they never make the same way twice, but always make enough to share with friends. Open to swimming in new directions, Pisces appreciates that potatoes are featured in some of the most healthy and popular diets, including Mediterranean, DASH and Flexitarian. So what does your astrological sign says about your taste in spuds?
