Simple mistakes happen easily, records being inaccurate or not having access to the most up-to-date tax information can be costly. This is especially true these days, when everything is changing at such a rapid pace, whether it be technology, financial markets or the political scene. It makes it difficult to stay up to date with the newest information.

That’s why it is crucial to make sure you are in the hands of an experienced, knowledgeable and well-versed accountant with your best interests at heart. This is precisely the service and personalized approach that Dayan & Associates, PLLC. provides to the South Florida com-

munity that is located in the heart of Aventura, FL founded by Oren Dayan, CPA in 2022.

The new firm intends to deliver a fresh approach to service, offering a combination of their experience, expertise, drive and passion. Dayan & Associates PLLC intends to take care of their clients with an A through Z service, providing the accounting skills for success and financial growth, where the client is priority. They are about providing maximum support, while alleviating all the unnecessary stress that is associated with bookkeeping and taxes. After all, no one likes receiving notices from the IRS or having to pay penalties.

“Broadway With Heart” Brings Heart

A night of nostalgia and some nifty song and dance routines recently whirled into Aventura Cultural Center, a jewel box of a theater. Stars, Michael Kessler and Melinda Jackson wowed a full house with their take on some of the most beloved Broadway shows of the times. The beautiful couple known as M&M presented a non-stop parade of their experiences in performing arts including directing, composing, teaching, singing and dancing, through the years. With their creation of The Non-Profit M&M American Dance Theatre Works, they promote educational and cultural enrichment, through exposure, mentorship and involvement in musical dance theater.

Blessed with a gorgeous body, with legs that reached to eternity, Melinda, through song, jazz, soft shoe, ballet and breathtaking pointe, delivered a luscious act. Would have loved

more of her and her graceful moves. Michael, the man of many talents, sang and danced

American Idol Alum Kimberley Locke Premieres Autobiographical One-Woman Show

On February 25, 2023 at 8:00 pm, Aventura Arts & Cultural Center audiences will be enchanted by the robust vocal prowess of singer-songwriter Kimberley Locke, the frontrunning American Idol alum and recording artist who many of her loyal fans consider as entertainment’s quintessential “8th World Wonder.”

After gracing the Aventura mainstage a decade ago, Locke will return to the Center to premiere her critically-acclaimed one-woman show, “The Sum of All Parts.” Through selections of storytelling and songs, the performance will chronicle various moments of her life and reveal her introduction to some of her favorite luminaries including Nina Simone, Judy Garland, and Etta James. The musical production will be arranged with a live, 12person orchestra and staged in an intimate manner reflective of her desire to connect with her audience on a deeper level.

“The one-woman show is something that I always wanted to do and I finally developed the confidence to do it,” said Locke.

“Once I decided to tell my story, I wrote the show with a close friend of mine with the purpose of diving beneath the surface in terms of a story to share information about myself personally, and not just musically. You’ll surely learn something about Kimberley Locke once you leave the performance, which is the goal.”

“The Sum of All Parts” was first conceptualized and performed by Locke in front of a sold-out New York City audience in February 2020– one month before the world’s stage changed forever and theaters went dark due to the Pandemic After headlining Norwegian Cruise Line’s seabound version of the Tony Award-nominated musical “Summer: The Donna Summer Musical,” Locke is energized and prepared to bask in the spotlight once again. “I want people to be curious about who I am as a person, which will explain who I am as a singer,” she said.

Locke views the timing of her premiere during Black History Month as ideal in not only sharing her own story, but also Locke hopes that her one- rience to Aventura,” she said.

Tevye a step or two or three in his “If I Were A Rich Man” presentation. Just to watch the precision and expressions of hand and body from this duo throughout the show was a treat. Backed by a bevy of five talented dancers, who, through clever choreography by Michael himself, provided on-stage set designs and costume changes with panache. The staging was simple: a huge screen showing M&M handling much of the narrative with the telling backgrounds of the spots being done. From “Two Sleepy People” with moves so synchronized, this couple was affectionately one soul; to morphing into “Phantom Of The Opera” with glitzy flowing fabric furling behind the actors, presented, exquisite! Indeed, a Five Star Show from Two Gifted Stars: Magical and Mighty!! To learn more about M&M:

Hallandale Beach is home to many parks thanks to our residents that supported our GO Parks Bond. We have added parks and have redeveloped the old ones. We are currently developing Sunrise Park located in the northeast section of the City. We broke ground on the park during COVID-19 and construction has been moving forward as planned. The original small pocket park was expanded and has been designed with a larger playground, extreme fitness course, butterfly garden, restrooms and parking.

At our last meeting two residents came forward to ask questions about the park and its elevation. Due to Sea Level Rising, all new construction is required to be built to address flooding. While buildings will be higher all construction is required to keep drainage on their property. Many residents are not aware that cities are not exempt from the process. We must file permits and meet the same standards as all applicants follow the same rules to build this including city properties and infrastructure.

The other concern was speeding around the park. Our current Staff was unaware that a while back there was a Commission Directive that I had suggested to install speed calming at all parks. This simply

makes sense. Speeding is a real threat around the entire playgrounds and obviously created an additional concern for children’s safety. Now that it has been brought up, Staff will be addressing these areas.

The next Groundbreaking will be a Curci Village. This hidden gem is located in the southwest section of our City right off Dixie Highway. It is the Historical Home of one of our founding families. The City restored the home with the help of developer contributions. While the house has been open for tours, the building itself is not fully Handicap Accessible.

On February 24th we will be hosting a Groundbreaking to start a makeover of the surrounding grounds and the addition of a Handicap Elevator. The property lends itself to be a quaint party facility. I actually officiated the first wedding there a few years back. A new patio area will be added to accommodate a party area. construction, we are still working on financing. Originally we were going to make this site a charging area for our Electric Bus System and create a park focused on sustainability. When the parks were planned I had envisioned creating an intercity bike trail connecting all the parks. While formal plans were not done during the initial phases, Staff have continued to work on mobility projects. Not only are we connecting the

parks, we were just presented with the plan to create the Hallandale Beach Art Trail. Once completed it will be the longest continuing art trail at 8 Miles in Broward County and maybe the state.

Each park will contain a trail head that will be designed with various amenities and art installations. The trail itself will be a marked path. Once a visitor arrives at the trail heads the markings themselves will be artist designs. There will be various artist indicators on the streets drawing visitors to stop by and enjoy the installation. There will be interactive technology and art fixtures. The trail will also be adaptable to change out different art installations.

Keeping with arts and entertainment goals here, the Hallandale Beach CRA is once again hosting its Food And Groove. As part of the South Beach Wine and Food Festival and in partnership with Gulfstream Park Pegasus Park will be the place to be on February 25th. Starting at 7:00 p.m. you can come out and try out tastings from over 50 of our local restaurants. In addition to great food and drinks there will also be live entertainment.

The only thing in life that is certain, is that anything can happen at any time. After the repairs’, State-of-the-art specialized equipment is used to detect moisture levels in the air, dehumidifiers are placed in the affected area, and a Floridalicensed Mold Inspector will be sent to do a mold inspection. Bleach and paint alone will not eliminate the problem, only hide it, allowing it to grow unseen and spread. This causes more damage to your home and health over time. People and pets all respond differently to mold and mildew. For some, it may be watery eyes, itchy throat, cough, or skin irritation. Confusion, disorientation, and even hallucinations can also be signs of mold exposure. For others, exposure to mold can cause very serious, even life-threatening health problems. The Coconut Grove Arts Festival

Aims to Make A Collector Out Of Children

In keeping with the Coconut Grove Arts Festival’s new theme, a different kind of hue, approximately 100 new artists have been added to the roster. While they aren’t new to the art world, their vision and works of art will certainly add a lot of novelty to this year’s show. Some of those artists have even agreed to “donate” art, which will be earmarked for the Young Collectors Club, a place within the show where kids armed with a few dollars can go inside without their parents to purchase their first work of art.

Over 100 artists have agreed to donate at least one of their pieces to help kickstart the next generation of art collectors. “The most enthusiastic patrons of the Coconut Grove Art Festival are under the age of 12. Early impressions and memories of the experience of seeing and buying original art last a lifetime. We are proud of our young collectors and love to connect with them,” said Diane French whose work involves dry pigment painting. For years, artists have left an impression on art lovers of all ages. Painter and printmaker Ronna Katz knows too well that there’s nothing quite like the thrill of buying your very first piece of art.

“There’s the feeling of empowerment in knowing you have selected and have a say in the matter of adopting the art that resonates for you. It’s a feeling of independence, adulthood, and coolness,” says Katz who cherishes those moments when a kid collector returns to her booth ‘to meet the artist’ and asks questions or requests an autograph as evidenced by these pictures and a note that one young collector left behind.

One well-known bronze sculptor started his collection at age 12. John Vise is a testament to the importance of encouraging children’s sense of wonder.

“There was a famous artist who had a studio in our small town and my father was buying one of his pieces. While he

browsed these big, elaborate constructions, I wandered the shop. Tucked along one windowsill, the artist’s wife had little cast dragons that she made. Not nearly as detailed and not nearly as expensive. Both my dad and I walked out with a piece that day. It didn’t matter that mine was twenty dollars and his was several hundred. I still have that piece and maybe more importantly I have the memory of discovery, of wonder and of pride of finding this treasure,” said Vise.

Some of the art that will be on display has a direct link to the artist’s unique story and their work centers around an important theme. Whether it was a way to protect endangered species, sound the horn on slavery or come out of hiding, it’s clear that these artists have something to say. Take for instance, Edwin Lester from Philadelphia who’s participated in the past. He brings a very sophisticated and technically advanced style of realism to his figurative, atmospheric paintings, his work reflects what’s important and personal to him. Spending a few minutes speaking to artists at their respective booths could make the difference between just having a nice piece of art or proudly owning a true masterpiece. The following artists are just a small example of what organizers have known all along –that The Coconut Grove Arts Festival is truly special in every sense of the word.

Jeribai Andrew-Jaja

Originally from Nigeria, Africa, Jeribai came to the U.S. to study and has a Master’s Degree Graduate in cyber security. His strong passion and fascination with Art and storytelling led him to his Art practice. He created a series of artworks documenting his journey of self-love and acceptance after being diagnosed with a skin condition called Vitiligo. His works seek to capture deep emotions and express strength. “I

create hyper-realistic drawings using charcoal and graphite and generously spend about 150 hours on some drawings. My goal is to capture the entire essence and tell that story because we all have stories,” said Jeribai Andrew-Jaja. (Texas) www.instagram.com/kiingjaja/ https://www.andrewjajaart.com/

Lisa Kristine

For more than 30 years she has documented indigenous peoples and social causes as an internationally renowned photographer in more than 150 countries across six continents. Her work navigates the emotional landscapes of her subjects and their environments, driving awareness around causes such as human trafficking, indigenous wisdom and global unity. She is the recipient of a Lucie Humanitarian Award, presented at Carnegie Hall, honoring the greatest achievements of master photographers. “I use a 19th-century 4x5” field camera and Hasselblad. I wish to encourage a dialogue about our interlocking world’s beauty, diversity and meaning. The photographic artworks are printed in my studio using a state-of-the-art Chromogenic printer,” said Lisa Kristine. Anne London

Career artist for 48 years, Anne started as a storyboard artist in Hollywood where she met Tippi Hedren, founder of Shambala, a sanctuary for retired movie animals. There, she began sketching the lions, elephants, tigers and others that became her life’s focus; endangered species. Her passion has taken her to Africa more than 25 times, among other places. She founded a nonprofit to use art as a teaching tool for children in rural communities, mostly about the beauty of their wild surroundings. As a result, she’s been able to fund over a dozen scholarships sending women and men to ranger and wildlife college. (California) http://aelondonstudio.com

Oliver Schnoor

A jeweler at heart, Oliver suffered an unfortunate accident where his hand was practically severed. He made a full recovery and went on to win Best of Show in The St. Louis Art Show, a rare feat for a

jeweler. “I am a contemporary jewelry artist that uses traditional metalsmithing techniques as well as modern kind designs. Nature is a constant source of my designs,” says Oliver Schnoor. (Florida) https://oliverjewelry.com/https:// www.instagram.com/oliverjewelry/

A Different Kind of Love Stop Swiping Left Or Right And Adopt A Shelter Pet Instead

It’s officially the month of love and the Humane Society Of Greater Miami is urging the community to open their hearts to a different, more rewarding kind of love – the unconditional love of a shelter pet! So if your Valentine’s Day wasn’t all you hoped it would be, this month, The Animal Welfare Organization will be sharing special “dating” profiles for some of their longtime shelter residents in hopes that their sweet and unique personalities will catch the eye of their soulmate!

“With so many dogs and cats that have been overlooked for months and even years at our shelter, we wanted to find a more modern approach to help our longtimers find a home,” says Jossie Aguirre, Executive Director at The Humane Society Of Greater Miami. “We hope these fun “dating profiles” will show them in a new light and help them connect better with new adopters.”

The Humane Society Of Greater Miami is a limited-admit, adoption guarantee facility, so every animal admitted is free from the threat of Euthanasia due to time, space or treatable medical conditions. They care for every animal for as long as it takes to find them their forever families. Every time you adopt a pet from them, you are saving two: the pet you are taking home and the homeless animal you have just made space for in the shelter!

The Humane Society Of Greater Miami has been helping homeless animals in Miami-Dade County since 1936. Today, more than 400 homeless dogs, cats, puppies and kittens each day are cared for at The Soffer And Fine Adoption Center in North Miami Beach. We are able to give these animals a second chance by providing tender loving care, a good meal, shelter and medical care for as long as it takes to find them homes with kind, responsible and committed caregivers.

The organization works diligently at creating a more kind, just and loving community for the pets and people of Miami-Dade County. They offer programs and services to educate, inform and inspire people to take responsible care of their pets and treat animals with the kindness they deserve. With the support of people from across Miami-Dade County, they are helping to create a better community for all.

They run a preventive veterinary clinic in North Miami Beach, where they strive to end our community’s pet overpopulation problem by performing thousands of

sterilization surgeries each year. The shelter has programs that help the financially challenged people of our community by providing low-cost and even free services for Vaccinations and Spay/Neuter Surgeries.

Each animal that is cared for at the shelter is free from the threat of Euthanasia while they wait for their forever family. More than 3,300 animals each year find their human companions and begin their new lives in the comfort of homes around our community and South Florida. Before a pet is available for adoption, great lengths are made to make sure the

pet is healthy, Vaccinated and Spayed or Neutered. They provide counseling and guidance to make sure the right match is made and the right pet is adopted into the right home.

Staff and Volunteers of The Humane Society Of Greater Miami travel to schools, libraries, organizations and clubs to teach the young and the old about responsible pet ownership and to promote the human/animal bond. Their philosophy is to engage the young and teach them about being kind to animals, being a responsible pet owner and the causes and effects of pet overpopulation while also educating the parents and the elderly making it a full circle of informed members of our community. More than 6,000 children and adults are seen on a yearly basis.

Anyone who has ever owned a pet knows of the unconditional love and acceptance pets bring. The Humane Society Of Greater Miami’s Pet Therapy Program brings the unique and healing human/animal bond to residents and patients of healthcare facilities, rehabilitation centers, children’s hospitals and senior citizen homes across Miami. It is well documented that interaction with animals can significantly improve humans’ physical and emotional health. Put as simply as possible, pets make people feel good!

The Humane Society Of Greater Miami is a Not-For-Profit Charitable Animal Welfare Organization supported by donations, private grants and fundraising events. They rely on our local community for financial support.

So this month stop swiping and visit: www.humanesocietymiami.org or stop by the shelter to see all of the eligible “bark” chelors and “paw”chelorettes, today!
