David and Victoria Beckham giving Miami, south Florida much needed positive exposure Larry Blustein - Aventura Digest
APRIL • AVENTURA DIGEST • PG 6
David Beckham has always been more than just a soccer player. He is a corporation and public relations machine all rolled into one. No matter where he goes, a throng of interested followers are not far behind. So when he became interested in building and owning a soccer franchise and stadium in Miami, everyone wanted to listen. While they were a bit skeptical about who would pay for the facility, all wanted to believe that this world-wide icon could make a difference in this community. “When people think of Miami, they immediately think about being near or on the water,” Beckham said in a statement. “I asked my team to develop ideas for a stadium that embraces the best of the destination. Even though we are in the early stages of building the franchise, I believe we have a vision that not only Miami would be proud of, but one that will resonate around the world.” This was not one of those ride into town on the white horse and
rip tax payers off with his ideas that would end up coming out of our pockets. This was much better - and quite refreshing. What Beckham and his many business partners want to do is enhance Miami and the south Florida soccer scene by building a fan-friendly, lower cost facility that would take its place around Bayfront Park - and frankly where you want visitors to gravitate. Beckham’s ownership group wants to build a stadium with the capacity of 20,000 to 25,000 seats and boast spectacular views of the Miami skyline. Beckham’s plan to launch an MLS expansion team in Miami is contingent on his group building a new stadium. The former England captain reportedly hopes the team can start playing by 2017. Additional Interest In The Facility The University of Miami, which had been long searching for a facility closer to the Coral Gables campus, already contacted the Beckham Group, letting them know what this pro-
gram would need to make the move out of Sun Life Stadium where they are in the 7th of a 25 year deal. Even though the Hurricanes have no plans to move away from the Sun Life, they wanted to see what their options would be. Miami Dolphins owner Stephen Ross said he would pledge $400 million for renovations to Sun Life, which holds more than 75,000 fans and opened in 1987. He Was World Class From The Beginning Beckham’s professional career began with Manchester United, where he made his firstteam debut in 1992 aged 17. With United, he won the Premier League title six times, the FA Cup twice, and the UEFA Champions League in 1999. He then played four seasons with Real Madrid, winning the La Liga championship in his final season with the club. In July 2007, Beckham signed a five-year contract with Major League Soccer club Los Angeles Galaxy. While a Galaxy player, he spent time in Italy with AC Milan
in 2009 and 2010. Beckham was the first British footballer to play 100 Champions League matches. In international football, Beckham made his England debut on September 1, 1996, at the age of 21. He was captain for six years during which he played 58 times. Posh And Becks In 1997, Beckham started dating Victoria Adams, after she attended a Manchester United match. She was famously known as “Posh Spice” of the pop music group Spice Girls, one of the world’s top pop groups at the time, and his team was also enjoying a great run of success. Therefore, their relationship instantly attracted a great deal of media attention. The couple were dubbed “Posh and Becks”
by the media. He proposed to her in January of 1998. The following year, David and Victoria married in Ireland. The wedding attracted tremendous media coverage. Beckham’s teammate Gary Neville was the best man, and the couple’s infant son, Brooklyn, was the ring bearer. David and Victoria Beckham have four children: sons Brooklyn Joseph (born 1999 in London), Romeo James (born 2002 in London), and Cruz David (born 2005 in Madrid; the word “cruz” is Spanish for “cross”); and daughter Harper Seven (born 2011, in Los Angeles). Elton John is godfather to Brooklyn and Romeo Beckham; their godmother is Elizabeth Hurley.
CITY NEWS Is your technology working for you? (BPT ) - For every new computer, gadget or service there are several different stages of ownership. Unfortunately, the first and happiest phase the honeymoon - doesn’t last forever. Eventually, devices can slow, services get outdated, and in the end, the ailing technology begins to work against you. Stay ahead of the curve and prevent reduced productivity by maintaining your machines, upgrading your services and adopting new technologies. Here are five ways to make technology work better for you. 1. Go paperless Reduce the desk and office clutter by cutting down on the paper scattered about. Tablets and other devices are making it easier than ever to go paperless. For example, a digital scanner can turn paper into PDF files, allowing you to take on clients, no matter where they are. “I have clients nationwide and
internationally, and now I’m able to prepare their taxes and do their accounting without having to meet face to face,” says accountant Andrew Poulos. 2. Embrace cloud storage At least 77 percent of cloudfamiliar consumers aren’t backing up their most important items, according to a recent Harris Poll online study, which means they’re missing out on an opportunity to have their files with them, anywhere they are. Using a service like OneDrive allows you to save photos, videos and documents organized all in one place, accessible on any of your devices, anywhere. 3. Upgrade as needed A simple upgrade can add years of life to your existing devices. For example, adding memory or storage to desktop computers will make them perform better and last longer. Or, instead of upgrading your hard drive, try a network-
attached storage device, which will let multiple computers on your network easily connect to shared storage. Updating your operating system is also smart, but if you use an outdated system like Windows XP, it is easiest to upgrade to a new computer entirely. “In April, Microsoft will no longer provide support for Windows XP,” says Kristina Libby, the company’s director of public relations. “We understand the upgrade process sounds daunting, but it doesn’t have to be. There are great offers and deals for consumers out there, and retailers, like Staples, who offer trained staff to help you choose a Windows 8.1 PC or tablet that’s right for you.” 4. Pack more power The more you use a mobile device, like a tablet or smartphone, the faster the battery will drain. So make sure you have plenty of power to
keep your electronics working. That’s what San Franciscobased DataSong does, equipping everyone at the marketing analytics agency with portable USB-powered batteries. “Having power banks to charge our phones in an emergency has been incredibly productive,” says Traci Lee Chu, the company’s vice president of marketing. Frequently on the road or working on site with clients, DataSong staffers use the backup power to keep their smartphones and tablets connected to the company’s big data apps. 5. Leverage the right email tools to keep you organized Email is one of the most used technology services. In fact, the average person will receive more than 10,000 emails this year, according to The Radicati Group, Inc. Fortunately, you can take control of your inbox and increase your productivity with a number of tools and features so you can easily manage and get to the mail that matters to
you most. The first step most users take when cleaning their Inbox is to get rid of emails that they don’t want. For these emails, features like Sweep in Outlook.com allow you to easily delete (and, if you want, block) emails in bulk by deleting a large number of emails from certain senders, keeping only the latest and most relevant messages. This is especially helpful for daily deal mails, or if you want to easily unsubscribe from unwanted mail altogether, try using the simple one-click unsubscribe feature. 6. There’s always a solution Technology, like any tool, should make your job easier. In general, if you find your devices and services are slowing you down instead of speeding your productivity along, stop and assess the problem. From simple workflow tweaks to total system overhauls, there’s always a solution to get you back on task and make you more efficient than ever.

Progressive Telemedicine now available at Healthy Hallandale Medical Center with great results You wake up in the morning, your throat is sore and the thought of getting in the car and taking a ride to see the doctor is not the first thing on your mind. As you wait for that moment to feel just a little bit better, so you can get some medication to start improving, you are beginning to get tired and wear down from not feeling well. In the past, it would be a matter of pushing yourself to see the doctor. But now there is an alternative. One that you can get only at Healthy Hallandale Medical Center. Welcome to Telemedicine - where the transmission of medical data from patient to doctor via phone, live video conference or email can take place from the comfort of your own home and provide that relief until you can get to the office. The idea is just another in the long line of what has made Dr. Cornell Calinescu so progressive in a medical community often tempted to go up and beyond, but never takes the time to see what positive results will come out of it. “This is perfectly legal and something that serves as a bridge for our patients
until they feel better and come in to the office for more treatment and a followup,” said Dr. Calinescu. “Telemedicine is really the future of medicine, and we wanted to be on that ground floor.” Telemedicine is easy and very effective in diagnosing as patient and doctor have that one-on-one visual contact along with a great way of communicating when they are not feeling so well. It’s as easy as establishing a medium (laptop, tablet, home computer or phone) to provide the direct communication. There are so many positives to Telemedicine - such as the convenience of avoiding further infection at the doctors office, avoiding a mis-diagnosis, which often happens when less time is spent on the patient. The benefits of this ground-breaking video medical treatment helps you connect with a doctor that knows your history and understands what types of medication and treatment you respond to. It also opens up those lines of communication that are often vital. The results will come faster because there is nothing standing in the way of finding
out and seeing all symptoms involved. “I’m sure that a lot of us have said it would be great if we could see our own physician without leaving home,” Dr. Calinescu explained. “This is the direction that medicine is headed.” While having severe chest pains and other issues would warrant a trip to the emergency to rule out anything that could be life-threatening, Telemedicine deals with low acuity symptoms/ailments that do not have the potential to be life threatening. While there are so many questions that potential patients want to ask, one of the most important things that all patients should know is that most private insurers such as Aetna, Cigna, BCBS, UHC, Humana and Wellcare will accept the program. HOW DO I SIGN UP The easiest part of learning what Telemedicine does and how it works can
be found by going to the website http:// healthyhallandale.com and click on: If You Are Not Feeling Well. That will take you right to https://www.gogohealth.net/ site. GoGoHealth is a virtual clinic which connects patients with their doctors for treatment of low-acuity, common illnesses. The solution allows for doctors to virtually care for their patients, to see more patients, and to improve patients satisfaction by caring for them faster and more conveniently. “It’s real easy to get started,” Dr. Calinescu explained. “Give us a call today and we’ll show you how to maximize what we have to offer all of our patients.” OBAMACARE SPECIALIST IS AT THE OFFICE If you are like the millions of Americans waiting to see how you go about getting insured under the new ObamaCare coverage, Healthy Hallandale Medical is a name you need to be familiar with. They provide that free information and you will be able to find out everything that will help you with your health insurance needs.
If you have been looking for the answers to ObamaCare, call Healthy Hallandale Medical Center at 954-Healthy. Also, check out the other services in the advertisement on pg 9. You will be impressed.

UNDERSTANDING HOME HEALTH By Terry Adler, CEO, Always Classic Care
Thank you for your great response to this column. These are a few of some recent questions: I’m not able to manage my apartment or drive my car anymore. Will my long term care insurance cover someone to help me? Your long term care insurance covers personal care needed at home only. That means that your policy states that it will cover a home health aide who can help the insured person shower, dress, prepare light meals, do laundry, and straighten up bathroom and kitchen after using them for the care of the patient. The aide can also shop for the insured. Aides are professionals who have been trained with a required amount of state-approved hours in a legitimate training school to provide safe and efficient care with a degree of ethics. They are aware of the services they are allowed to provide under insurance coverage. Services requested other than the aforementioned needs to be agreed upon via a private arrangement between you and your aide. As an agency, we cannot and do not get involved in these arrangements when insurance is involved. But I don’t need anyone to help me with my shower or getting dressed. I also can put light meals together or pop frozen dinners or restaurant leftovers in the microwave. What I
need is someone to drive me shopping, for errands and to doctor appointments. I also need someone to clean my apartment, because I can’t really do it anymore. So, what can I do? Those are considered private services. At Always Classic Care, we can provide them for you at a reasonable out-of-pocket cost, much as you arranged before you qualified for coverage from your long term care insurance. If you explain your needs to me, I can make wonderful recommendations for you. We can provide housecleaners and drivers who provide those services for a living, but are screened as well as our aides prior to our recommending them. Why should I go through an agency if I have to hire someone? I can use someone my neighbor uses. You definitely can hire whomever you like. However, you should consider the following items: • How well do you know this person? Can you trust him or her? Are you sure the aide does not have a police record? All of our recommendations have had to be subjected to an FBI investigative screening. • Is the aide insured to cover any liability if you should become injured while in their care? Are you sure? • Will you be paying your share of their Federal taxes? We do. Many people are unaware of their responsibility
to IRS when hiring a household employee, or the aide’s legitimate status to work in this country. If you hire privately you are responsible for taxes, checking legal status and overtime pay. They are now your employee and you are legally an employer. REMEMBER… it’s always better to book services through a professional agency. You get top people and avoid a lot of trouble. Hope this has been helpful. With my 20+ years of experience as a cardiac and home health nurse, I will be happy to answer any questions you may have regarding home health. Please feel free to email me at firstname.lastname@example.org or call me at 305-403-2622. I am here for you. Lic Dade 302-11301 • Lic Broward 302-11508

A Shen Yun show is one extremely grand production. It is a performing arts and entertainment company that performs classical, story-based, Chinese ethnic and folk dance. These performances are passed down through thousands of years, using extensive acrobatic and tumbling techniques, with a philharmonic orchestral accompaniment, using several traditional Chinese instruments, in addition to solo performers, consisting of approximately 60 male and female dancers, wearing authentic costumes. The name Shen Yun translates into “The
Beauty of Divine Beings Dancing,” and was founded in 2006 with the mission of reviving 5,000 years of Chinese culture. The group not only entertains, but deeply educates and inspires as the animated backdrops transport the audience into another world. The beauty of this performance, colorful scenery and gorgeous costumes, must be seen. This all new show takes center stage at the Arsht Center, located at 1300 Biscayne Boulevard, Miami, April 18, 19 and 20, 2014, evenings at 8 p.m. matinees 2 p.m. Tickets, $60 to $200, are available by calling 305-949-6722 or 877-949-6722.
Boomers who take action now may enjoy better brain health, research shows .Baby boomers often think of 50 as the new 40. This is especially true in 2014 as the last members of the think-young generation reach the half-century mark. Yet with an unprecedented life expectancy – 78.7 years – for the youngest of the boomers, it is more important than ever to incorporate healthy habits to keep your mind beautiful during the second half of life. The latest science indicates there are simple, but powerful steps you can still take now to help your brain remain strong, healthy and beautiful as you age. A partnership between the National Center for Creative Aging (NCCA) and the life’sDHA brand, Beautiful Minds: Finding Your Lifelong
Potential campaign identifies key lifestyle factors known as the “Four Dimensions of Brain Health” that can positively impact your brain health throughout life - diet and nutrition, physical health, mental health and social well-being. “Keeping the brain healthy is easier than many people realize. AVENTURA – One of the most popular specialty stores in south Florida has gotten even better. The Aventura Oil Company, which has helped consumers by combining taste and being healthy, has added 2 New Spicy Infused Olive Oils: Harissa and Cayenne Pepper, 3 New Extra Virgin Olive Oils from Spain and Italy, New Black Currant Dark Balsamic and Coconut White Balsamic and Mango White Balsamic to an already impressive stock of fine olive oils and Balsamic vinegars. Come into the Aventura Olive Oil Company, where husband and wife, Bradley & Natalia Harrison, have been learning, and educating consumers on specialty olive oils and balsamic vinegars. They will sit down with you and help you balance your taste buds as well as improve the way you feel. “What we want when you come in this store is to taste your way around the store, Bradley said. “We want people to feel comfortable, walking around, sampling everything we have to offer - and as you will see - we have a lot of great things here.” Aventura Olive Oil features the largest, freshest selection of single varietal Ultra Premium Extra Virgin Olive Oils and Aged Balsamic Vinegars on tap. All of their products are natural, many are organic and are GMO-free, and all of their oils are Kosher. EXTRA VIRGIN OLIVE OILS VS. VEGETABLE OILS One of the most frequently asked questions about Extra Virgin Olive Oil are health benefits vs. other vegetable oils. “First of all,” Bradley says, “it has the highest percentage of monounsaturated fats of any oil. Researchers and doctors tell us that the road to being healthier begins by replacing as many saturated fats in our diets as possible.”
The fact that olive oil contains over 200 healthy compounds, including phenols, antioxidants, and anti-inflammatory compounds is another positive for a healthy lifestyle. “These compounds have been known to reduce blood pressure, reduce plaquebuilding LDL cholesterol, reduce coronary heart disease and help regulate blood sugar levels,” Bradley pointed out. “They are also a chemo-preventive agent for gastric cancers and have even been shown to slow effects of Alzheimer’s disease.” The fresher the Extra Virgin Olive Oil, the more healthy compounds it contains. Carefully harvested olives that have been crushed under the correct time and temperature are healthier. Not all olive oils have the same levels of health compounds – for example – Extra Virgin contains more than Virgin and Virgin contains more than Refined Olive Oils. The Extra Virgin Olive Oils on most grocery shelves are low in these compounds due to age, processing of ripe olives, and mixing with lower quality oils. Most large-scale producers harvest to maximize their oil yields. “Unfortunately, the healthiest Olive Oil is not produced at the same time that the olives produce their most oil,” Bradley said. “Only very conscientious growers will harvest at the peak of the chemistry and forego the lure of harvesting at the peak of oil quantity.” WHAT’S ON THE MENU In addition to all the tremendous olive oils and balsamic vinegars available, Aventura Olive Oil Company has now added an expanded roster of wheat Durum, Semolina and Gluten-free pastas. It is what the customers have requested and they now will see a much larger variety. Customers who come into the store will also see changes made with the many gourmet salts that have been added to an
already impressive specialty shop. “It was important for us to continue to bring in the kinds of products that stand alone,” Bradley explained. “To have such high standards in our olive oils and vinegars, it was also important to bring in other products that are of that quality.” Aventura Olive Oil Company also carries sauce mixes and dipping herb mixes, dipping and bread plates - in addition to the soaps and lotions with Extra Virgin Olive Oil. “We searched and sampled a lot of products to find the Best Marinara, Fra Diavalo, and Puttenesca Pasta Sauces that are gluten free, sugar free, preservative free and low sodium,” Bradley pointed out. “We also found an excellent line of Seasonal Florida Jams and Marmalades like Guava, Mango, Pineapple, Papaya, Jalapeño and red pepper and onion.” OILS AND VINEGARS There are a number of different flavors and combinations that will wake the palate instantly. Come in and try some of these: FUSED OLIVE OILS: Blood Orange & Eureka Lemon. INFUSED OLIVE OILS: California Garlic, Basil, Tuscan Herb, Tarragon, Cilantro, Roasted Onion, Chipotle, Mushroom & Sage, Dairy-free Butter and Persian Lime. WINE VINEGARS: Aged Red Wine, Champagne, and Artisan Serrano and Honey. DARK BALSAMIC: Traditional 18 year Aged. Raspberry, Strawberry, Champagne Dark, Fig, Blackberry Ginger, Espresso, Dark Chocolate, Red Apple, Tangerine and Organic Traditional. WHITE BALSAMIC: Pomegranate & Quince, Cranberry Pear, Bleinheim Apricot, Sicilian Lemon, Ripe Peach and Honey Ginger. SPECIALTY OILS: Black Truffle, White Truffle, Roasted Sesame, Roasted Almond
and Roasted Walnut. DON’T BE FOOLED Pre-bottled olive oils also suffer from a credibility crisis; it has long been known that many olive exporters adulterated their oils with non-olive oils or mixed lower grades of olive oils into bottles labeled “Extra Virgin.” The University of California at Davis performed a landmark testing of 52 bottles from 19 popular imported brands of olive oils labeled “Extra Virgin” and found that 69% failed the grade! Worse yet, over half the samples tested, showed evidence of excessive age, adulteration with other vegetable oils, or harvesting of over ripe-fruit. FRESH IS ALWAYS BEST The Harrisons strongly believe that Extra Virgin Olive Oil is like fruit juice: highly perishable - healthier and more flavorful when consumed fresh. This is the reason they are a certified Ultra Premium retailer and post the harvest date on every Extra Virgin Olive Oil they offer. In addition to the harvest date, Aventura Olive Oil posts the “chemistry” of their olive oils, so the customer can learn the polyphenol count (antioxidant value), the oleic acid, the monounsaturated fat, and the flavor profile. “We work hard to deliver FRESH, high quality products from both hemispheres,” Bradley said. “We invite you to come in and TASTE THE DIFFERENCE! We have over 50 Amazing products on tap, and are confident that we can assist you in selecting an oil or vinegar that you will never forget!” Aventura Olive Oil is truly a unique business. With tastings that remind many of the finest European specialty shops - it has become a destination since opening right before the holidays. The tasting gave the many customers a chance to see what the oils and vinegars pair with - when it comes to food. “Whether it is a Frantoio Extra Virgin Olive Oil from South Africa for your salad or a bread dip with Aged Dark Chocolate and Espresso Balsamic, our freshness and natural flavors are sure to WOW you,” Bradley explained. “It’s that kind of fun atmosphere - where the customers get to taste the different products - that makes all the difference.” There is so much waiting for you at Aventura Olive Oil. From eight Single Cultivar Ultra Premium Extra Virgin Olive Oils to Fused and Infused Olive Oils, the list is endless. AVENTURA OLIVE OIL CO. Tu Pizza’s already impressive menu gets larger Addition of salads, chicken wings and subs have been very popular Since opening its doors just before Christmas, Tu Pizza has found a home in south Florida. In the middle of so many other dining options, Tu Pizza’s years of experience in the restaurant business has paved the way - with new items already popping up on this expansive menu, located in the popular Sage Plaza of Hallandale Beach. Completely operated by family members who grew up in Venezuela, but have strong roots in Italy, is what has made this restaurant so popular - in such a short time. With Chef Maria D’Amato still creating some of the favorites, she has also added delicious and freshly made
salads, tasty chicken wings and plenty of hot and cold subs that will certainly please any appetite. “By adding new items to this tremendous menu, it gives our diners more of a choice - any time of day,” said Manager/ Owner Fabio Berdicchia. “We are very excited about the many salads we now offer as well as a variety of chicken wings and delicious subs.” Also, Tu Pizza has been preparing a Special each and every day of the week - which will help highlight so many of the tremendous dishes that Chef Maria continues to cook. Fresh Is The Key In a world of frozen pastas and doughs that are shipped
halfway across the country, Chef Maria has changed the way diners view freshly-made food, cracking eggs and using only the freshest ingredients. That is the only way she learned as a child and continues to do the same today. You can taste freshness in every bite of a pizza that not only includes Prosciutto, but also Vegetarian (Zucchini, red pepper, onion and eggplant), D’Oro (Ham and corn) and Franco’s favorite, Venezia (Pepperoni, ham, mushrooms, corn, peppers and onions) and many other combinations. Other pizzas, which are served up in 12 inch (small), 14 inch (medium) and 16 inch (large) sizes, that have been very
popular include Diavola (Salami, black olives and pepperoni), Chicken BBQ (Shredded chicken, barbecue sauce and mushrooms) and the delicious Margherita. “The fresh Margherita has been one of the favorites so far,” Fabio explained. “Fresh basil, tomato slices and mozzarella cheese is one of the great and healthy combinations.” Outstanding Main Dishes Chef Maria’s dishes range from Canneloni di ricotta (Spinach & four cheeses), Canneloni di carne (filled with meat) to Ravioli (filled with meats, spinach and cheese) to Lasagna and the popular Melansane. “That is my favorite,” Owner
Franco Nisi said. “It is delicious and has breaded eggplant, topped with fresh tomato sauce and melted mozzarella cheese. That is one of our signature dishes.” All the meats and vegetables used at Tu Pizza are selected by Franco and Chef Maria, which is yet another positive why this restaurant has started to gain a positive following.

HOROSCOPES Aries (March 21 - April 19) You are now in the game-changer month, April, and we will have two of the most important eclipses of the year on April 15 and April 28/29 (depending on your time zone). Before those eclipses occur, you will have an important new moon that will be almost as important and give you a hint of what is to come in early April.
Taurus (April 20- May 20) This will be a big month, for it holds two major, unusually powerful eclipses, April 15 and April 28/29 (depending on your time zone). The one you will need to watch closely is the one that will fall in Taurus, April 28/29. If your birthday falls near that date - within four or five days - your life will change
radically in one important area. If you were not born near April 28/29, you will only feel the eclipse mildly, but one of your natal planets may feel it, so in that case, changes will occur. Gemini (May 21 - June 20) April is a big month, mainly because we are now in eclipse season, with a full moon lunar eclipse in Libra on April 15 and a solar new moon eclipse in Taurus on April 28/29 (depending on your time zone). An eclipse will always fall on a new and full moon, two weeks apart, and take the energy of that new or full moon and multiply its power to a factor of three, to three times the strength (in my estimation). In April, you will notice a great deal of information swirling about you in your own life, the lives of those around you,
and also on the world stage, in the media, too.
Cancer (June 21 - July 22) Here we are at April, a month that might become a major turning point for you. As a cardinal sign (those include Aries, Libra, Cancer, and Capricorn) you have been feeling the heat from clashing planets for some time. These planets want you to find new solutions to long-term concerns, for you will soon see, especially this month, that the old formulas that seemed to work in the past are useless now. Conditions have changed. Leo (July 23- August 22) This is will be a big month because it holds two eclipses. We typically get four eclipses a year, and those set up big themes that bring news

and progress. Eclipses look for weaknesses in relationships and in situations, and if they find any, the eclipses will show you so you can decide what to do. If you were not able to make changes in a deteriorating situation, or didn’t know the situation had weak elements, the eclipses will make the decisions for you. Virgo (Aug. 23 - Sept. 22) This month will have a strong financial focus, with a great deal of emphasis on money owed you and money you owe others. This may sound odd for you, dear Virgo, for your sign is one that puts the quality of the project or service well above financial considerations. As a result, your work is so strong, money seems to find a way to your door. According to Forbes, Virgo and Pisces (the two most unmaterialistic, spiritual signs, found on the same 180-degree axis) were the two signs that produced the most billionaires.
Libra (Sept. 23 - Oct. 22) This will be a turning point month, dear Libra, for with two eclipses set to happen this month, a lot of information will suddenly come to the surface to help you decide your future path. You also have an important new moon in your opposite sign of Aries, putting enormous emphasis on your partner. To balance that, the first eclipse,
in Libra, will allow you to put your hope and dreams front and center, and help you appreciate all that you are and all you have to give others. Scorpio (Oct. 23 - Nov. 21) This is one of those months where things will just keep on happening ? and happening?. Just when you assume nothing ELSE could possibly happen, something else inevitably will. Is it possible to squeeze so much news and change into one tiny month? Yes, for sure, and April is due to be a turning point month for many, of all signs. We have a very tough new moon on March 30, influencing the first half of April, and then two eclipses, a lunar full moon eclipse in Libra on April 15.
Sagittarius (Nov.22 - Dec. 21) Last month you may have had interesting home and career developments, but April will direct your attention to your personal life. Two eclipses are due, one April 15 and one April 28/29 (depending on your time zone), and these eclipses are quite powerful. They certainly will be game changers. Before they arrive, April 15 and April 28/29, we have an unusually strong new moon that just appeared days before the start of April, on March 30. Capricorn (Dec. 22 - Jan. 19)
You have now arrived at April, one of the most action-packed months of the year. It holds the influential, difficult, but yet adventurous new moon that occurred on March 30, still exerting its power during the first two weeks of April. After that, at midmonth, the world will see two eclipses. Aquarius (Jan. 20 - Feb. 18) This will be a big month for you, for your ruling planet, Uranus, will be very prominent and leave his fingerprints over many of the month’s aspects. This means you are more likely to notice and be affected by what is happening in April. You are a fixed sign, so you tend to like things “just so,” but you are also intellectually curious and need stimulation and new things to things to look forward to tackling. April will give you that, for sure. Pisces (Feb. 19 - Mar. 20) Welcome to April, dear Pisces. This kind of upand-down month may unnerve you, but the opportunity will be there to make money too. The big emphasis will be on all sorts of funds - money you earn, money you borrow, commissions and bonuses, court settlements, inheritances, and taxes too. You have a reputation of being smart when handling money, but to concentrate all day on only money bores you.

Walking: the old way to get fit is new again (BPT) - With so many fitness trends, you might not think of walking as good exercise. If you’re not thrusting a kettlebell over your head, pushing a tractor trailer tire or shaking your hips to a Top 40 dance beat in a scheduled group class, you’re not cutting it, right? Well, not so fast. Walking is actually a great way to get in shape. In fact, if you walk often enough and fast enough, the simple act of putting one foot in front of the other can satisfy your body’s daily requirement for aerobic activity.

Walking may just seem like an old method of exercise; it certainly is tried and true. But quite the opposite of outdated, it seems to be making a resurgence in the health, fitness and medical worlds as a low-cost solution to the nation’s ongoing health care crisis. Renowned medical expert Dr. Andrew Weil is an advocate of walking as a crucial method of preventative care. He advocates walking as a low-risk means to optimum health. “With a consistent, brisk walking routine, you can boost your immune system, help manage weight, improve your mood and help ease

Dr. Charlton Adler Heel Pain From Plantar Faciitis Affects 10% Of US Population By Marylynne Newmark, Medical Writer
NORTH MIAMI BEACH - The most common cause of heel pain here in the United States is a condition called plantar fasciitis. Athletes are affected, as well as soldiers, sales people on their feet over long periods of time and those who are overweight. It can affect one foot or both. What is plantar fasciitis? Plantar fascia is the flat band of ligament that connects our heel bones to our toes. The plantar fasciia supports the arches of our feet. If it becomes strained by walking, running or standing for long periods of time, especially on hard surfaces, it can become weak, swollen and irritated, resulting in severe heel pain. People with flat feet or high arches are prone to this condition. Pronation (rolling of the feet inward when walking) is also a predictor of plantar fasciitis. Those with tight Achilles tendons or calf muscles are at risk for this, as well as people who are
overweight, or wear shoes that don’t fit well or are worn out. Pain is usually felt in the heel and foot with the first step out of bed in the morning or after sitting for a long period of time. It is also likely to be felt after standing for a long period of time or when climbing stairs. How is plantar fasciitis diagnosed? After an indepth assessment of your medical history that would include past injuries and illnesses as well as current conditions under treatment, your podiatrist will assess how you stand and walk, where the pain is, what time of day you experience the most pain, and your level of physical activity. He or she may even xray your foot to rule out a stress fracture.
on activities that are associated with the pain. NSAIDS like Advil or other antiinflammatories such as Tylenol or Aspirin may be prescribed to reduce the painful inflammation, or ice applications may help. We may prescribe toe and calf stretches with a towel several times a day. Shoes with a good arch support and/or cushioned soles are definitely recommended. If pain continues after these conservative approaches are employed, splints may be customized for the patient, and in extreme conditions where pain continues for more than six months, surgery may be recommended. A visit to your podiatrist after several weeks of pain would definitely be in order to alleviate your discomfort and avoid long-term damage. Don’t delay. Early intervention can save you a lot of pain.
Treatment Treatment for plantar fasciitis begins with getting off your feet or cutting back

Five things you should know about spring allergies (BPT) - April’s showers bring May flowers but they also bring on sneezing, runny noses and watery eyes for some of the 50 million Americans with allergies. The spring allergy season begins in some regions of the country as early as February and can last into the summer months. The most common spring allergy culprits are pollens from a variety of trees and grasses, as well as mold, according to the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology (ACAAI).
“Because there can be millions of pollen particles and mold spores in the air, finding allergy relief can seem nearly impossible for some,” says allergist Dr. Michael Foggs, ACAAI president. “But by knowing what triggers your allergy symptoms and how to avoid these allergens, you can be on your way to a sneeze-free season.” Knowing more about the spring allergy season can also help you fight symptoms. ACAAI allergists have put together the five things
you should know about spring allergies. • Allergies are on the rise Every year more adults and children are diagnosed with allergies. There are several speculations about this increase, including climate changes and increased allergy awareness. Studies have also shown pollen counts are gradually increasing. Even if you’ve never had allergies in the past, you can develop them at any time. That lingering cold may be allergies and you should see your local board-certified allergist for test-
ing and treatment. • It matters when you medicate - If you fall victim to spring allergies annually, you should begin taking your medication two weeks before symptoms typically begin. Keep an eye on the pollen counts in your area. Even if the temperature doesn’t feel like spring, there could already be pollen circulating in the air. To be better prepared, you can track your symptoms with MyNasalAllergyJournal.org. • There isn’t a cure, but there is something close Unfortunately, there is no cure
for spring allergies. However, immunotherapy (allergy shots) provides symptom relief while modifying and preventing disease progression. Immunotherapy can also be tailored for an individual’s needs. So if you’re allergic to pollens, dust and pets, allergy shots can provide you with relief from these allergens. • Symptoms can be severe Runny noses, itchy eyes and sneezing aren’t the only symptoms of spring allergies. If you are coughing, wheezing and have trouble breathing, asthma might be one of your allergy symptoms. In fact, an estimated 75-85 percent of asthma sufferers have at least one allergy. Asthma attacks can be lifethreatening. Aside from avoiding allergens, you should also be under the regular care of an allergist and use medications as prescribed. • When in doubt, get checked out - Not every cough is due to a respiratory infection. And colds shouldn’t be blamed for every runny nose. If you find yourself battling unwanted symptoms for more than two weeks, it is likely time to see an allergist to get tested, diagnosed and treated. Allergies and asthma are serious diseases and that’s “nothing to sneeze at.” Misdiagnosis and inappropriate treatment can be dangerous.
Stepping out for spring? People with diabetes should check their feet first - Spring is finally here and it’s an ideal time to get outside and be more physically active. For those with diabetes, regular exercise helps increase circulation and is a critical part of staying healthy. But, before lacing up your sneakers, remember these important steps to ensure your feet are in shape: • Get the green light from your health care provider. Discuss the type of physical activity that’s best for you and ask your provider to examine your feet. In general, your feet should be professionally examined four times each year. • Be mindful of everyday foot care. Sometimes, people with diabetes have serious foot problems yet feel no pain. This may be due to nerve damage, a long-term complication of diabetes. Everyday self care includes inspecting your feet for scratches, cracks, cuts or blisters and washing and drying them carefully, especially between the toes. • Wear socks and well-fitting shoes. Because of the higher risk of foot problems among those with diabetes, avoid going barefoot, even indoors. Wear socks and shoes that fit properly. (BPT)

• If you do notice a problem, it may be a foot ulcer. Ulcers occur most often on the ball of the foot or on the bottom of the big toe. Ulcers may also appear on the sides of the foot. Keep in mind, while some ulcers may not hurt, every ulcer should be seen by your health care provider right away. • Get foot ulcers treated. If you have a foot ulcer, innovative treatments can help, such as EpiFix, a wound care product from MiMedx, used extensively to rapidly and effectively heal diabetic foot ulcers. EpiFix is a dehydrated human amnion/chorion membrane allograft that delivers essential wound healing growth factors, enhances healing and reduces inflammation and scar tissue formation. • Let it heal. If you have an ulcer, help it to heal by staying off your feet. Walking on an ulcer may worsen the problem by making the wound larger or migrating it deeper into your foot. “Foot problems, including ulcers, are common among people with diabetes, but they don’t have to hold you back if you take the proper precautions and seek early treatment,” says Dr. Matt Garoufalis, president at
Physicians Surgery Care Center, Chicago, Ill., and immediate past president of the American Podiatric Medical Association. “Before you step out to enjoy the spring weather, have your feet checked by a health care provider to make sure you’re good to go.”
Is a refinance the right decision? just recovering from a financial setback. “As home values start to rise, there is some pent-up demand for a cash-out refinance to access the equity in the home for other purposes,” says Diane Brooks, real estate product management director at USAA. Would refinancing benefit you? Fratantoni puts today’s mortgage holders into three categories: Already refinanced: Those with strong credit, job security and plenty of home equity. These homeowners refinanced in the past few years and secured a rate in the low- to mid-3 percent range. Already refinanced through federal programs: Those people with good credit and employment who lack enough equity to qualify for traditional refinancing. These borrowers only qualify to refinance through federal programs
such as the Home Affordable Refinance Program, known as HARP, or the Federal Housing Administration’s streamline refinance – both advantageous to a homeowner who owes more on his mortgage than his home is worth. Fratantoni notes that many homeowners who qualify for those programs have refinanced. Current candidates for traditional refinancing: Those who regained their financial footing after a job loss or credit trouble, or who are no longer underwater as home values rise. Do your financial homework, Brooks says. “It’s not just about payment savings. That’s not the whole story.” How quickly will you recoup closing costs - typically between 2 and 5 percent of your loan? How long do you plan to stay in the home? How long are you extending the term?
Doing the numbers may not reflect how badly you want more cash flow in your budget or how passionate you are about that kitchen remodel. So even if the numbers aren’t optimal, there could be enough of a financial and emotional boost to justify a mortgage refinance. Just remember, you’re leveraging your home. And a 30-year loan, while having a higher interest rate, can provide a lower monthly payment that’s more manageable in lean financial times. “On a 30-year loan, you can make a larger monthly payment to pay the loan off in 15 years,” Young says. “If you run into cash flow problems, you can always make the minimum payment. Refinancing for a 15-year loan, while getting you a better interest rate, will also get you a higher minimum payment that must be paid on time.”

Before you refinance, ask yourself these questions: • How’s my credit score? A stellar credit score can help you get a good interest rate. • How will I pay my closing costs? Many people roll them into the refinanced loan amount. But saving enough to pay for the closing in cash can make the refinance an even better deal. • Where does my mortgage fit into my family’s financial picture? Consider your overall budget, investments, college savings plan and other financial goals. • If your refinance lowers your monthly payment, what will you do with the extra cash? Many people don’t have a good strategy for this additional monthly savings. Ideally, the payment savings should be applied to other debt or to boost your savings account.

(BPT) - Once at rock bottom, interest rates have ticked up slightly in recent months. Still, the prospect of refinancing a mortgage remains attractive. Interest rates are projected to rise to 5 percent or above by August 2014, according to an August 2013, Freddie Mac study. “The window hasn’t closed, but homeowners should analyze their mortgage situation to see if a refinance can improve their overall financial picture,” says John Young, director of real estate product management at USAA. Mike Fratantoni, vice president of research and economics at the Mortgage Bankers Association, agrees. “When market rates were at 3.5 percent, 90 to 95 percent of outstanding loans would have benefited from a refi,” he says. Now, with mortgage rates at about 4.4 percent, just 25 to 30 percent of homeowners with outstanding loans would come out ahead. Here are some reasons why you should refinance. • Pay off your mortgage early. Moving from a 30year term to a 15-year term without a big jump in monthly payments could save you thousands in interest and build equity in your home faster. • Create more cash flow. Lower interest rates can create lower monthly mortgage payments, freeing up money to pay down debt or just to provide more wiggle room in the budget for other things. • Access home equity. On a cash-out refinance, you borrow more money than you owe on your current loan, and use the funds for purposes such as reducing other debt, remodeling your home or

(BPT) - Investing in home improvements is a smart idea when you’re thinking of putting your home on the market. So where is the best place to spend your money? While it may be tempting to make cosmetic home improvements including decorating touches or fresh coats of paint, upgrading vital home systems such as heating and cooling can really pay off. In fact, making smart improvements can help you save money on your utility bills now, while increasing your home’s value to potential buyers later on down the road. Heating and cooling is one of a home’s biggest costs, accounting for more than half the average home’s utility costs, according to energy.gov, which means it makes good sense to make efficiency improvements that positively impact your budget every month. And for the long term, potential buyers want assurance that basic home systems, including heating, cooling, plumbing and electrical, are
in working order before they buy, RealEstate.com reports. • Heating and cooling: On average, you should consider replacing your heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) system every 10 years in order to take advantage of the latest energy-saving technologies and cost efficiencies. Replacing your old system with a Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (SEER) of up to 20.00, such as American Standard’s AccuComfort Platinum ZV air conditioner, can save you up to 60 percent on your annual cooling costs. • Home automation: You can also stay ahead of the real estate curve and provide additional value for your home through the use of advanced home automation technology. For instance, Nexia Home Intelligence enables you to remotely manage multiple features and functions of your home including heating and cooling, as well as door looks, indoor and outdoor live video surveillance and storage, lights and
shades, via any Web-enabled computer, smartphone or tablet. • A programmable control: Another way to reduce energy consumption is to install a programmable HVAC control, which can save up to 15 percent compared to traditional non-programmable thermostats. The American Standard AccuLink Platinum ZV Control makes it easier than ever to monitor the indoor and outdoor temperatures of your home. You can also monitor heating and cooling use over time, so you can manage energy and comfort even further. • Home inspection, repair and advice: As you look ahead to warmer weather for making home improvements, remember that now is an ideal time to purchase a new home comfort system. A qualified HVAC dealer can perform an inspection, advise you on preventative maintenance and make recommendations on heating and cooling systems that best fit your home’s needs. Choosing an American Standard Customer Care Dealer means you’re assured of an independent dealer who is committed to being the best in installation and customer service.
