Hallandale Beach Receives $14,879,219 The City Will Use The Monies For Sewer System Modernization

Last week I received a call from Governor DeSantis’ office inviting me to a press conference that was to be held in South Florida the following day.

Regretfully due to the last-minute notice I was unable to attend but watched on FB. To my surprise and great pleasure, it was announced that our city was part of an $80-million-dollar grant award to South Florida to address flooding and resiliency.

The City of Hallandale Beach received $14,879,219 Million for sewer system modernization.

The City of Miami received the 40 shares, but we were the second highest city awarded.

Broward County received $18 Million. Our staff has been very busy applying for this grant. In my opinion, due to our planning and ability to be shovel ready helped us acquire this much needed funding.

Over four years ago, we adopted what is called a Basis of Design Report BODR. This is a high-level blueprint analyzing all of our aging infrastructure. At that point the needs were well over $200 Million Dollars.

Recently we approved the moving forward of specific designs of many projects that sat dormant over the past 4 years. These projects are vital and include pumping stations and lift stations.

While we are grateful for the funds, we still have many more needs.

It is important to note that design work is underway and there are many projects we are doing. A new water main was replaced along Foster Street. The major SE Lift Replacement at

City Hall is complete. If you have been in the area, you know this project took a little under a year, due to its size.

This station used to be what is called a small can station. It has not been touched for 35 years. Now it is a Master Station that will provide much needed capacity for current and future demands.

This week we also found out that we received an Emerald Award from Broward County.

This past year a Rain – Butterfly Garden was built in partnership with Gulfstream Academy and The PAL Of Hallandale Beach.

Staying In Your Home Make a Plan Now To Manage Missed Mortgage Payments By: CFPB - With the Omicron Variant of COVID-19 surging, housing relief is essential for struggling homeowners.

Roughly 7.7 million distressed households received a forbearance during the COVID-19 Pandemic, enabling them to pause or reduce mortgage payments to stay in their homes. The majority have already resumed their regular mortgage payments and the nation has averted a repeat of the housing crisis it endured during the Great Recession.

It’s now time for the roughly 1 million households still in forbearance to contact their mortgage servicers and work out plans to resume mortgage payments.

“Millions of homeowners have been negatively impacted by the Pandemic, but there are steps you can take to seek assistance,” said CFPB Director Rohit Chopra. “If you are having a hard time making mortgage payments or facing Foreclosure, you may have relief options depending on the type of mortgage you have. There is still time to act if help is needed, but you must act soon.”

To help, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) issued the following tips: Homeowners who entered into mortgage for-

bearance because of financial hardship related to COVID-19 may have options for repaying their missed payments. A payment deferral or partial claim allows you to wait to make up unpaid balances until the end of your loan or when you sell or refinance your home. A loan modification allows you to change loan terms that might lower your monthly payments or extend the length of your loan. A lump sum repayment means you pay the total amount of skipped payments to your mortgage servicer. Repayment plans add the amount you missed to your regular mortgage payments. Not all options are available to everyone and will vary based on your loan, servicer and financial situation.

Generally, you won’t have to repay missed mortgage payments in a lump sum. In most cases, if your mortgage is federally backed, which includes: Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, FHA, VA or USDA Loans, your mortgage servicer cannot require you to pay back your missed payments as a lump sum repayment. Many other mortgages do not require a lump sum repayment. If you only hear about a lump sum repayment, ask about other options. Make a plan today. In other great news, The Pegasus Cup was a great success! Even with chilling temperatures, there was plenty of fun had by all. I had a chance to deliver

one of the race trophies and a proclamation alongside Mayor Mike Udine of Broward County.

While most of the event’s pop-up venues are temporary, there is a new permanent addition being added to the track. In partnership with the owners of the Wharf Restaurant and Bar Group, The Track presented a sneak peek of “The Carousel Club.” The Wharf currently has three locations: Fort Lauderdale, Miami and Palm Beach. They are a well-known hot spot for food, fun and live entertainment.

While the other locations boast water side venues, Gulfstream boasts trackside

excitement. The highlight will not just be horse racing, but a unique bar that will actually be an antique carousel. Gulfstream is looking forward to the grand opening within the month.

As many new people are moving to our area some things that we are all used to seem odd to our new neighbors. I received a complaint about sirens from a resident of Aventura. Only one, but I think it needs to be addressed. Gulfstream Park has been part of our City for well over 60 years. Horse Racing is a sport that involves very well-trained jockeys. Jockeys are athletes and must follow many strict guidelines. Thoroughbred horses are also athletic and are treated with the utmost care. Some, like the participants in the Pegasus race for millions of dollars.

Horse racing obviously is not simply about a race, it is about training and daily exercise. Every morning the backside is busy with trainers, horse walkers and other support staff who start the day as early as 4:00 a.m. It is rare and something that is extremely dangerous that a horse may break free. In the event that this happens, the sirens are set off for the safety of the staff, the surrounding areas and yes, of course the horses as well.

Artis Fine Arts Opens in Downtown Hollywood Miguel Reinfeld is an artist at heart. He got his Bachelors of Fine Arts in sculpture, but life got in the way and he never got to live his dream. Until now. After more than 20 years in property management, Reinfeld got together with an old friend, Former Art Journalist Marby Hurst and the pair opened Artis Fine Arts, 2132 Hollywood Blvd., Hollywood, Florida 33020.

The art gallery, billed as a space to find “One-of-a-kind Fine Art for Collectors & Decorators,” will be showcasing artists who create in many different media and disciplines, while giving Reinfeld a studio space where he can finally do his own art.

“We plan to show contemporary art

from all over the world; Good art, from interesting, established contemporary artists that we think are worth supporting.”

The Artis Fine Arts space is bright and well-lit, a perfect canvas for the paintings, sculptures, textiles, digital and other art shown in the gallery.

“We also will work closely to connect our artists with architects, decorators and collectors and focus on commissions to create art for specific residential and commercial spaces,” explained Hurst.

Hollywood resident Reinfeld was very happy to have found this space, which he said had really good potential to do what he wanted to do with very few changes,

this close - biking distance, he said - to home. The next exhibition at Artis Fine Arts will open at the end of February. In between shows, the front of the gallery will remain open as a retail space with new pieces continually being added.

Artis Fine Arts is open Tuesday through Saturday from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and on Sunday from noon to 3:00 p.m. and any time by appointment. The gallery is closed on Mondays.

Celebrating 47 years, Third World is one of the longest-lived Reggae bands of all time, and one of Jamaica’s most consistently popular crossover acts among international audiences. “Totalitarian Paranoia runs deep in American Society and it now inhabits the highest levels of government.” - Professor Henry Giroux Once upon a time, there was a government so paranoid about its hold on power that it treated everyone and everything as a threat and a reason to expand its powers. Unfortunately, the citizens of this nation believed everything they were told by their government and they suffered for it.

When terrorists attacked the country and the government passed massive laws aimed at paving the way for a surveillance state, the people believed it was done merely to keep them safe. The few who disagreed were labeled traitors.

When the government waged costly preemptive wars on foreign countries, insisting it was necessary to protect the nation, the citizens believed it. And when the government brought the weapons and tactics of war home to use against the populace, claiming it was just a way to recycle old equipment, the people believed that too. The few who disagreed were labeled unpatriotic.

When the government spied on its own citizens, claiming they were looking for terrorists hiding among them, the people believed it. And when the government began tracking the citizenry’s movements, monitoring their spending, snooping on their social media and surveying them about their habits—supposedly in an effort to make their lives more efficient— the people believed that, too. The few who disagreed were labeled paranoid.

When the government allowed private companies to take over the Prison Industry and agreed to keep the jails full, justifying it as a cost-saving measure, the people believed them. And when the government started arresting and jailing people for minor infractions, claiming the only way to keep communities safe was to be tough on crime, the people believed that too. The few who disagreed were labeled soft on crime.

When the government hired crisis actors to take part in disaster drills, never alerting the public to which “disasters” were staged, the people genuinely believed they were under attack. And when the government insisted it needed greater powers to prevent such attacks from happening again, the people believed that too. The few who disagreed were told to shut up or leave the country.

When the government started carrying out covert military drills around the country, insisting it was necessary to train the troops for foreign combat, most of the people believed them. The few who disagreed, fearing that perhaps all was not what it seemed, were shouted down as conspiracy theorists and quacks.

When government leaders locked down the nation, claiming it was the only way to prevent an unknown virus from sickening the populace, the people believed them and complied with the mandates and quarantines. The few who resisted or voiced skepticism about the government’s edicts were denounced as selfish and dangerous and silenced on social media.

When the government expanded its war on terrorism to include domestic terrorists, the people believed that only violent extremists would be targeted. Little did they know that anyone who criticizes the government can be considered an extremist.

By the time the government began using nationalized police and the military to routinely lockdown the nation, the citi-

zenry had become so acclimated to such states of emergency that they barely even noticed the prison walls that had grown up around them.

Now every fable has a moral and the moral of this story is: if it looks like trouble and it smells like trouble, you can bet there’s trouble afoot.

Unfortunately, the government has fully succeeded in recalibrating our general distaste for anything that smacks too overtly of tyranny.

After all, like the proverbial boiling frogs, the government has been gradually acclimating us to the specter of a police state for years now: Militarized Police.

Riot Squads. Camouflage Gear. Black Uniforms. Armored Vehicles. Mass Arrests. Pepper Spray. Tear Gas. Batons.

Strip Searches. Surveillance Cameras.

Kevlar Vests. Drones. Lethal Weapons.

Less-Than-Lethal Weapons unleashed with deadly force. Rubber Bullets. Water Cannons. Stun Grenades. Arrests of Journalists. Crowd Control Tactics.

Intimidation Tactics. Brutality.

This is how you prepare a populace to accept a Police State willingly, even gratefully.

You don’t scare them by making dramatic changes. Rather, you acclimate them slowly to their prison walls.

Persuade the citizenry that their prison walls are merely intended to keep them safe and out of danger. Desensitize them to violence, acclimate them to a military presence in their communities and persuade them that only a militarized government can alter the seemingly hopeless trajectory of the nation.

It’s happening already.

This is Psychological Warfare at its most sophisticated.

Almost every national security threat that the government has claimed greater powers in order to fight—all the while undermining the liberties of the American citizenry—has been manufactured in one way or another by the government.

What we’ve seen play out before us is more than mere Totalitarian Paranoia run amok.

What has unfolded over the past few years has been a test to see how well “we the people” have assimilated the government’s lessons in compliance, fear and Police State Tactics; a test to see how quickly “we the people” will march in lockstep with the government’s dictates, no questions asked and a test to see how little resistance “we the people” will offer up to the government’s power grabs when made in the name of national security.

Most critically of all, this has been a test to see whether the Constitution—and our commitment to the principles enshrined in the Bill of Rights—could survive a national crisis and true State of Emergency.

We have failed the test abysmally.

We have also made it way too easy for a government that has been working hard to destabilize to lockdown the nation.

Suddenly, the events of recent years begin to make sense: the invasive surveillance, the extremism reports, the civil unrest, the protests, the shootings, the bombings, the military exercises and active shooter drills, the color-coded alerts and threat assessments, the fusion centers, the transformation of local police into extensions of the military, the distribution of military equipment and weapons to local police forces, the government databases containing the names of dissidents and potential troublemakers.

The government is systematically locking down the nation and shifting us into martial law.

This is how you prepare a populace to accept a Police State willingly, even gratefully.

As I make clear in my book Battlefield America: The War on the American People and in its fictional counterpart The Erik Blair Diaries, it’s time to wake up and stop being deceived by government propaganda.

Acrylic or watercolor are the mediums she prefers to best showcase the texturing effect. She also recycles the peelings back into the artwork to create additional texture. The majority of her recent works have been abstracts in a minimalistic style.
