NONPROFIT NEWS MICAH House to Host Champagne and Diamonds, Kentucky Derby Fundraiser MICAH House will hold their coveted Champagne and Diamonds fundraiser on Saturday, May 2, from 4:30 to 8 p.m. at the Mid-America Center in Council Bluffs. Dress in your best Kentucky Derby attire if you plan to attend. Big hats encouraged! The 23rd annual event will feature a silent and live auction, dinner, livestreaming of the Kentucky Derby, and their highly-anticipated diamond raffle. Sponsorships and tickets are still available! Founded in 1986, MICAH House is an emergency homeless shelter that serves families and women in the Omaha-Metro area and Southwest Iowa. Jennie Edmundson Foundation Opens Applications for 2020 Nursing Scholarships The Jennie Edmundson (JE) Foundation nursing scholarship applications are now available for the 202021 academic year. These scholarships are provided through the JE Foundation’s Nursing Education Scholarship Fund, the Stahlnecker Trust Nursing Scholarship Fund, the Jennie Nursing Alumni scholarship fund, and the Alice Oth Charitable Foundation. Each scholarship is earmarked for individuals pursing a degree in nursing through an accredited Associate Degree in Nursing, Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, RN to BS, Masters in Nursing, or Advanced Practice Nursing program. Applications must be submitted by April 5 for consideration. Students who are currently enrolled, have been accepted, or plan to be accepted into a nursing program for the 2020-21 academic year are encouraged to apply. The scholarships will be awarded in June for the fall semester. Heartland Hope Mission Presents Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon April 4 Heartland Hope Mission will be hosting their annual volunteer appreciation lunc heon on Saturday, April 4. Each year, Heartland Hope selects a new theme for the luncheon. This year, guests of honor will come with their boots, spurs, cowboy hats, and bandannas for: Yeehaw! A Volunteer Shindig. Over 100 volunteers will enjoy a burger bar buffet and have fun roasting marshmallows on their tables’ campfire centerpieces. In addition, prizes, games, photo ops, and an awards ceremony will make for a memorable event. Heartland Hope Mission operates one of the largest food pantries in the state, but they are “More than a Pantry” as they help families work toward self-sufficiency. They primarily serve working poor families and those who may be facing a crisis situation with a week’s supply of food, clothing, diapers, job resources, and community referrals.
