Letter from the President –

November is a month that invites reflection. With Thanksgiving on the horizon, I’m reminded of how much we have to be grateful for—our families, our communities, and the many small businesses and nonprofits that make Nebraska such a special place to call home. Gratitude is powerful; it shifts our focus from what’s missing to what’s meaningful, and it reminds us to give back where we can.

We also pause this month to honor Veterans Day. To all who have served, and to the families who have stood beside them, we extend our deepest respect and appreciation. Your sacrifices safeguard the freedoms we enjoy every day, including the freedom to pursue our work, our dreams, and our lives in safety.

"I

At the same time, November also finds us in a rapidly changing digital world. The explosion of AI-generated content—what some have aptly called “slop”—is flooding the internet at a staggering pace. While technology can be a powerful tool, we must not lose sight of the value of authentic voices, lived

experiences, and genuine human connection. That’s what we remain committed to here at Strictly Business: telling the real stories of real people and organizations in our community.

As we celebrate the holidays and look toward a new year, I believe it’s more important than ever to slow down and invest in what is real. That might mean choosing to shop local, spending time with family, or supporting a nonprofit that makes a difference. Authenticity isn’t just a buzzword—it’s a practice, a choice we make every day to live with honesty and gratitude.

As you turn the pages of this issue, I hope you’ll find inspiration in the people and businesses who continue to do things the right way—with integrity, hard work, and heart. That’s what authenticity looks like, and it’s what keeps our community strong.

Wishing you a November filled with gratitude, reflection, and authenticity.

Warm regards,

ABOUT THE COVER Brad Moline: Building Connections Beyond Fiber

When you meet Brad Moline, ALLO’s President and CEO, it doesn’t take long to see that his leadership is driven by people. Born and raised in Nebraska, Brad’s career took him across the country to executive positions that taught him how companies scale and innovate. When he and Jill decided to return home to raise their family, he brought with him a renewed purpose to build something lasting for the people and communities that shaped him.

Before founding ALLO, Brad served as Senior Vice President of Finance at Birch Telecom in Kansas City, helping guide its exponential growth from a regional provider to a national player. He also navigated the initial public offering of Covenant Logistics, a transportation company in Chattanooga, and continues to serve on their board. Eventually, they were missing the sense of connection that came from small-town life, the kind where you know your neighbors by name and every handshake means something.

That personal belief that, like transportation, technology should bring people closer together, not further apart, is woven into ALLO’s DNA. Since 2003, ALLO has developed one of the most advanced all-fiber networks in the nation, delivering broadband, telephone, cyber, and video services. ALLO has grown to serve more than 53 communities with 1.4 million population across Nebraska, Colorado, Arizona, and Missouri, with worldclass communication services.

What makes ALLO’s success stand out is the team, not just technology. Brad has cultivated professionals - engineers, operators, and local experts - who have a passion for service and innovation. Together, they work hand in hand with customers, developing creative ways to use ALLO’s fiber network to expand business opportunities, create jobs, and improve the quality of life in every community they serve. “We’re in the business of connection,” Brad often says, “and that goes beyond fiber. It’s about connecting people and businesses to opportunity, information, and each other.”

Within ALLO, Brad’s leadership is known for being hands-on and grounded. Whether he is working with communities, participating in local events, or discussing ALLO’s unique culture with a new teammate, he leads by example: approachable, engaged, and genuinely curious. His open-door approach has fostered a passion for customer service rooted in ALLO’s core values – Honest, Hassle-Free, Exceptional, and Local, the same traits that define the communities ALLO serves.

Outside of work, Brad is a Nebraskan at heart. He and Jill enjoy time with family (new grandparents), supporting local communities through Jill’s grocery stores and volunteering, and the satisfaction of seeing neighbors thrive. Their story reminds us that true leadership is about vision, values, and staying true to your roots.

MeadLumberCelebrates25Yearsof Employee Ownership

This fall, Mead Lumber marks a major milestone: 25 years since becoming an employee-owned company and 10 years as 100% employee owned.

Founded in 1910, the company launched its Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) on September 25, 2000, giving employees a stake in the business. In 2014, Bob Mead, the last family owner, sold his remaining shares to employees, completing the transition to full employee ownership.

The milestone will be celebrated across all 53 Mead Lumber locations in nine states, with employees gathering for events, team meals and stories from the more than 30 employees who were part of the first group of ESOP participants 25 years ago.

Employee ownership has provided long-term benefits, including retirement savings tied to the company’s success, attracting and retaining talent, and fostering a culture where everyone has a personal stake in the business. This culture has supported steady growth and strong relationships with contractors, remodelers and communities across the region.

Mead Lumber’s celebration coincides with ESOP Month in October, a national recognition of employee-owned companies and their role in strengthening employees, families and communities.

Monolithic Brewing Celebrates Five Years of Craft, Community, and Collaboration

OmahaFashionWeekReturnsFebruary2026 at the Omaha Design Center

Monolithic Brewing, a locally owned craft brewery near 120th and Fort Street, is celebrating its five-year anniversary this October. Since opening in 2020, the brewery has become a gathering place for craft beer lovers and a hub for local collaborations across Omaha’s thriving small business community.

Over five years, Monolithic has brewed more than 250 unique beers and has served up more than 50,000 gallons of beer. The brewery’s signature style—the Hazy IPA—has earned statewide acclaim. “Mosaic Broken Hearts Hazy IPA” won first place in the Divots Brewery Burnt Keg Cup in 2021, and “Benevolent Sun” claimed first place again in 2024 in a blind taste test alongside 14 other Nebraska breweries. Other style of beers Monolithic serves includes light sessionable beers, stouts, hard seltzers, sours and everything in between.

The brewery regularly collaborates with local restaurants and chefs, including partnerships with Au Courant Regional Kitchen, Dolomiti Pizzeria & Enoteca, Shucks Fish House & Oyster Bar Patio Takeover, Hatch Chilefest and Shane’s Spicy Wing Challenge, all have become local favorites. “With only a partial kitchen ourselves, these taproom takeovers require a lot of planning and we’re beyond grateful that these established, higher-end restaurants trust us enough to bring their craft into our brewery,” said head brewer, Shane Costello.

Bright Delight Housekeeping: A Cleaning Company Built on Care and Quality

The creation of Bright Delight Housekeeping was not just a regular business startup; it told a story. With just an idea to help expand her mom’s tiny cleaning company, Alessandra Herrera wanted everyone to know what it felt like to get a clean with a company who cares about more than just profits. With tailored checklists, quick communication, and quality cleanings, Bright Delight Housekeeping has become a 5-star rated company with over 100+ Google reviews.

During Alessandra’s first year of college, she used her business insights to organically and strategically start Bright Delight Housekeeping from scratch. While building connections, Alessandra researched what made a cleaning company so great, and it all came down to quality and customer service. That’s when she made it a mission to hire top-notch cleaners while she took care of the customer service and ensuring a smooth process.

A year later, Bright Delight Housekeeping has built up a solid client list, while still rooting back to their original motto—people over profits.

The Great Equalizer: Automation for Real Businesses from Integrated MSP

Greater Omaha Chamber Economic Outlook Event on November 18

At Integrated MSP, they see automation as the great equalizer for small and midsized businesses. The same tools that Fortune 500 companies use to streamline operations, improve customer experience, and reduce costs are now accessible, now affordable and now for everyone.

Automation isn’t about replacing people; it’s about eliminating repetitive, error-prone tasks so your team can focus on higher value work. Picture this: a customer request triggers an automatic ticket, assigns the right technician, updates the CRM, and notifies the client all without human input. Or imagine invoices being generated, reviewed, and sent automatically every Friday at 5 p.m. For many of their clients, automation has saved hundreds of labor hours per year, improved accuracy, and increased employee satisfaction. It turns “busy work” into “smart work.”

Beyond IT, they’re helping businesses automate onboarding, approvals, reporting, and compliance. All areas where small inefficiencies add up fast. Best of all, automation scales with your business. As you grow, the same workflows can handle higher volume without the need to hire additional staff. Whether you run a medical clinic, law office, or construction company, automation can give you back time, improve consistency, and strengthen your bottom line. Integrated MSP believes automation isn’t just a technology but it is your strategy for growth.

DONNA

Donna

FOUNDATION FOR WESTERN IOWA

Donna Dostal, President and CEO of the Community Foundation for Western Iowa

Tell us a little about your business. - At the Community Foundation, we work with people to create impact that means something to themselves and families. The mission of the Community Foundation is to work with individuals, families, businesses, and organizations to create permanent charitable funds that help their communities meet the challenges of changing times.

How did you get started in the business? - My nonprofit work began when I was a young mom working part-time to supplementing our family income. There is a group of Catholic missionary priests in Bellevue, The Columban Fathers, and they needed an editorial assistant for their magazine. The work had a global reach, and I saw their impact firsthand. It shaped my view of our individual ability to create positive change, and how acts of kindness act like drops in a bucket and create a ripple effect that ultimately overflows with good. After six years at the Columban Fathers, I worked shortly in insurance and realized I had to return to work where I was connected to a charitable purpose. From there, I have made it my life goal to serve through nonprofit work.

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally? - For me, the most challenging yet rewarding aspect of my career has been the crosswalk from corporate business development and relationship management to nonprofit fund development and donor relationship building. Shifting perspective from a place of scarcity to abundance not only made the difference in my nonprofit development career but also helped me educate others in the sector on how to make that shift to donor and relationship-centric thinking.

What has been your most important achievement professionally?

- The creation of the Women’s Fund of Southwest Iowa. When I joined the Community Foundation in 2018, I was immediately asked what we should do to help mitigate the issues facing women and their families. By gathering insights and working with leaders across nine counties, we were able to identify four key areas of necessary support; access to affordable, quality childcare, aging gracefully in community, education for women of all ages, and women’s health, safety and well-being. With the help of an active and engaged committee of leaders from across the region, we raised $2M to create an endowed fund. The fund currently grants $100,000 annually, but we need to do so much more.

Tell us a little about your family. - My family is truly my happiness. Larry Dostal and I celebrated 40 years of marriage in 2025, and we have two wonderful sons, who have amazing women by their sides, and are blessed with the most enchanting granddaughter. We are also parents to an aging Pomeranian we rescued named Ruby, and she really is the queen of our house.

What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? - I love spending time with my family, drinking coffee on our patio, baking, and learning watercolor painting.

Who inspires you? - Every day, I am inspired by my team at the Community Foundation. They are five passionate, creative, dedicated, intelligent, and knowledgeable women that have their priorities of family, community, service to others, and then self. They are amazing, and I am blessed to work with them every day.

If you could choose only one descriptive word to be remembered as, what would it be? - My one word would be passionate. Passion for creating impact, and for helping others fulfill their charitable purposes and goals, is what drives me every day.

If our readers would like to contact you, how should they do so?They can contact me directly at the Community Foundation for Western Iowa, either by email: ddostal@givewesterniowa.org or phone: (712) 256-7007.

PEGGY

Peggy Hall is the Funeral Home Manager at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, Cemetery and Mausoleum.

Tell us a little about your business. - I help guide people through funeral and cremation services when they’ve lost a loved one. I am a firm believer that every life should be recognized, honored and celebrated. A funeral service or gathering can look like anything you want. There are many factors to consider when planning a funeral event and I love helping people through those. I also share information about the funeral industry throughout the year with funeral home tours for students. I work with a local college and provide funeral home tours for healthcare students. I love talking about the career I’ve been dedicated to for the last 16 years.

How did you get started in the business? - I was 11 years old when I began reading obituaries and became interested in the deathcare industry. After high school and a four-year enlistment in the Air Force, I went to Nassau Community College for Mortuary Science. After college, I moved home to Nebraska and began my career in January 2010.

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally? - At the beginning of my career, there were not many young women funeral directors in Omaha, and I did face a ‘lack of confidence’ from some. People’s image of funeral directors has evolved over the years; I am not aware of a funeral home in Omaha that doesn’t have women funeral directors.

What is something within your field that you feel people should know that they may not realize? - Sometimes families don’t know that if they have lost their loved one as a result of trauma or other circumstances, they can still see their loved one and make arrangements for a viewing. I believe that being able to offer a viewing can provide closure.

Tell us a little about your family - I have been married to my husband, Michael, for 14 years and we have two sons. Michael works in the concrete construction industry. My boys are active in sports, so our lives often revolve around practices and games.

What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? - My favorite thing to do is go on adventures with my kids – the zoo, state parks, Fontenelle Forest and Lauritzen Gardens.

Who inspires you? - My dad inspires me. He’s been the hardest working person that I’ve ever known. Growing up, he worked 2-3 jobs at a time to make sure our family had everything we needed and just wants us to be the best versions of ourselves.

What is your favorite quote or the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? - “Under promise, over deliver”. Know your limitations and be confident with what you can accomplish.

If you could choose only one descriptive word to be remembered as, what would it be? - Present. I work hard to be my best and be there for the families. I also try to be there for my kids’ school activities and sport events. When I can’t be there for my kids in person, they know I’m there in spirit.

If you could choose any other profession to be successful in, what would it be? - I would be in healthcare/nursing. I’ve been told I would make a good nurse.

What local nonprofit organization(s) are you passionate about or involved with, and are there any special reasons why? - Fontenelle Forest in Bellevue. They focus on forest and nature conservation and rehabilitating raptors that have been injured the wild.

If our readers would like to contact you, how should they do so? - I can be contacted at (402) 451-1000 or phall@forestlawnomaha. com. We are located at 7909 Mormon Bridge Rd.

KOHLTON

Kohlton Hancock SARPY COUNTY CHAMBER OF

COMMERCE

Kohlton Hancock is the Marketing and Admin Manager at the Sarpy County Chamber of Commerce.

Tell us a little about your business. - The Sarpy Chamber is all about fueling local prosperity for the five cities we cover. We act as the resource and support system for businesses in those communities, from brand new startups to established corporations. We help them gain visibility, connect with potential customers and partners through networking, and provide the tools they need to thrive in the local economy.

How did you get started in the business? - I got started through the most reliable source: networking and community relationships. I was fortunate to be introduced to the Chamber by Annisa Visty of the La Vista Community Foundation, who previously worked at the Chamber. That introduction was how I got my foot in the door.

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally? - The biggest professional challenge I’ve faced was the post-graduation job search. It was difficult finding an employer willing to take a chance on a new college graduate. I had the knowledge and the skills from my education, but my applications were rejected because I lacked the professional experience. The challenge was convincing someone to look past the empty “experience” box and give me an opportunity.

What has been your most important achievement professionally?

- A major highlight of my work has been the effort to publish the Sarpy Chamber Annual Directory. I took ownership of the project, managing every stage until the directories officially began hitting mailboxes on October 1. Seeing months of planning come together in tangible product is fulfilling, but the real satisfaction is from seeing my own artwork and design throughout the entire publication.

Who inspires you? - Definitely the women in my family. They continue to teach me the true meaning of integrity and kindness. They live out their values with everyday choices. Whether it’s the unconditional love they show or the high standard of honesty they maintain, they have provided a blueprint for a well-lived life.

What is your favorite quote or the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? - I actually have two pieces of advice that I have always carried with me. The first is from my grandpa who says, “Remember who you are, remember who you represent,” and the second was from my great grandpa who always said, “Say what you mean, mean what you say.”

If you could choose any other profession to be successful in, what would it be? - I would choose to be an interior designer. It was a path I seriously considered before committing to marketing, and I still have a deep passion for the field. In many ways, it’s like marketing: both roles require me to create a visually appealing and functional space—whether it’s a room or a digital experience— that intentionally impacts how people feel and interact with their surroundings.

What is your favorite book or the last good book you read? - My latest obsession has been the “Dungeon Crawler Carl” series by Matt Dinniman. It’s a fantasy LitRPG following a man and his ex-girlfriend’s cat as they survive an alien-run, global dungeon game show after Earth’s destruction.

What is your favorite movie? - My favorite movie is the horror thriller “Hush” (2016). The movie frequently dives into the silent, visually driven world of its deaf protagonist, Maddie, making you experience the terror exactly as she does. It’s a masterclass in tension, where the absence of sound becomes the most terrifying element of all.

If our readers would like to contact you, how should they do so?

– You can email me via sarpy@sarpychamber.org.

TONYA

Tell us a little about your business. - Avenue Scholars works with young people who are interested in careers outside of the four-year college pathway. We aim to empower the youth in our program to achieve success by helping them find a high-paying, high-demand and fulfilling career. We provide one-on-one coaching, financial support and skill-building opportunities to guide students from our partner high schools to livable wage careers.

How did you get started in the business? - I started out working with elementary age students, and later with those that had entered the juvenile justice system, which I often call “the forgotten”. I created employment systems and programs to integrate those youth into jobs. There was a need at every level, and I wanted to help our community where I could. I believe that public service is my true purpose.

What has been your most important achievement professionally?

- Becoming a director; now creating some of the procedures and protocols that we use for Scholars to become successful. One of the most rewarding feelings is to see our Scholars happy with the option they ultimately chose for their career.

What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life? - When I became a first-time parent. This is when I knew I had to be serious about how I approached things in my life, and I really had to become an example for my children.

What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? - Not tell anyone! I rest better when they don’t know.

Tell us a little about your family. - I have two children, an adult son in his first career position as a high school teacher and football coach and a 10-year-old daughter who loves the arts. Both of them make me a better person and hold me accountable – all of which translates into the work I do.

What is your favorite quote or the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? - “How far you go in life depends on being tender with the young, compassionate with the aged, sympathetic with the striving, and tolerant of the weak and strong, because someday in your life, you will have been all of these.” – George Washington Carver.

Which talent would you most like to have? - Play the piano or saxophone. Music is near and dear – singing it is easy, playing it is a challenge (It takes patience. I work on patience daily).

What local nonprofit organization(s) are you passionate about or involved with, and are there any special reasons why? - Besides Avenue Scholars, I’m very passionate about donating time, food, money, clothes to homeless shelters, especially children’s shelters.

What is your favorite book or the last good book you read? - “The LET THEM Theory” by Mel Robbins and “I’m Just a Kid with an IEP” by Jordan Toma.

What is your favorite movie? - Enemy of the State

What is your favorite TV show? - The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air

What is your favorite local Omaha restaurant? - Salted Edge in Waterloo.

If you could have dinner with one famous person from the past or present, who would it be? - Denzel Washington – hands down.

If our readers would like to contact you, how should they do so?Feel free to connect with me on LinkedIn or email me at tfairgood@ avescholars.org.

Katelyn

Katelyn

Tell us a little about your business. - I focus heavily on organic social media marketing, where I relate with not only our client and their brand, but specifically their audience. I look at every company like a house. So, the foundation of it is the branding and your audience. If you don’t understand your audience well, and if you’re a brand doesn’t tell you who you are, what you do, then how are you going to build a whole house on a cracked foundation? And then we address the framework; one side is social media marketing, traditional marketing, PR, billboards and radio appearances, the other one’s actual sales. We actually do fractional business development as well, because networking and connection is a huge part of our business, too. We have to figure out what is the goal. Then from there, we’ll make the steps. We’re an all around, right hand man to a business.

How did you get started in the business? - Humble Lion Consulting started a few years ago when I was with a friend talking about his brand new automotive shop. He’s like, “Katelyn, I don’t know what I’m gonna do.” And so I gave him some advice. I looked at what his audience really looks like and who he really wants to target, and realize that his business plan, his branding, social media and marketing did not line up with that. And at the end of it, he’s like, “Why don’t you just bottle this up and sell it?” Sure enough, I came back few weeks later with my LLC and a contract, and I slammed it on the table, and I’m like, “Alright, put your money where your mouth is.”

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally?Finding the right people. My employees go through training before they’re hired. I want to see if I’m hiring lions, and not sheep. I’m hiring lions that are going to get the job done and get it done well.

What local nonprofit organization(s) are you passionate about or involved with, and are there any special reasons why? - I have been involved in quite a few in Omaha, from, Stephen Center to No More Empty Pots. I love helping out and volunteer anytime that I can. I’ve really fell in love with Release this past year, and I volunteered multiple times there. They focus on mentoring younger children, especially those that are in the foster care system. But honestly, I mean, some of these kids have gone through so much, and just to have someone that actually cares about them and like can help them reach their potential and see who they really are, that’s our future. There’s no reason why we should never invest in our future.

What is your favorite quote or the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? - “Fake it till you make it.” And I don’t mean not being genuine; I’m all about being authentic. When I say fake it, I mean, if you want to be that $1 million business, then why are you not treating your business like that? If you want to be standing out in a certain room that you walk in, then walk in, confident, like you own this place.

Who inspires you? - My dad and my grandma. It goes back to family and all the things that they’ve gone through. They’ve never made an excuse. They’ve always just grown.

If you could choose only one descriptive word to be remembered as, what would it be? - Visionary. Not only for myself, but for other people, I want to make dreams reality.

If our readers would like to contact you, how should they do so? – Our website is humblelionconsulting.com, phone is (402) 819 8062 and email is humblelionconsulting@gmail.com. We would love to hear from you!

CompletelyKIDSExpandsHolidayGiftDriveto Help Families Celebrate the Season Together

Completely KIDS is on a mission to make sure every child in Omaha feels special this holiday season. For many of the more than 2,500 KIDS the organization serves, poverty makes it difficult for families to meet even their most basic needs. For some children, the gift they receive from a donor may be the only one they open this year.

Each year, the Completely KIDS holiday gift drive ensures that every child in the program receives something meaningful. Sponsors are matched with a child’s wish list and can purchase a gift that is personal and special. There is no limit to the number of children one sponsor can support. Groups and organizations are also encouraged to host larger drives, with staff assisting closely to ensure a successful effort.

This year, supporters can take it a step further by sponsoring holiday parties and activities for families. These celebrations provide food, games, crafts and time together, creating lasting memories that extend beyond the gifts.

“When resources are limited, the holidays can feel out of reach,” said CEO Carla Rizzo. “That’s why at Completely KIDS, we go beyond gifts and create opportunities for families to celebrate and connect.”

The deadline to participate is December 8. To sponsor a child’s holiday gift, contact Ismael Alvarez del Castillo at (402) 397-5809 or icastillo@completelykids.org. To sponsor a holiday party or activity, contact Lacey Locklear at llocklear@completelykids.org.

Outlook Enrichment’s Vision Beyond Sight Gala Shines Light on Resilience

Outlook Enrichment will welcome community members to its annual Vision Beyond Sight gala on November 6. This year’s theme, Illuminating Brilliance, honors the resilience and impact of the clients, associates and volunteers whose voices and impact shape the blind and low-vision community. While registration for the gala has closed, supporters can still make an impact by getting involved with Outlook Enrichment, because no one has to face vision loss alone.

The gala coincides with National Diabetes Month, a timely reminder of the importance of eye health. Diabetic retinopathy is a condition that occurs when high blood sugar damages blood vessels in the retina. Vision loss exists on a spectrum, ranging from complete blindness with no light perception to low vision or reliance on corrective lenses. No matter where someone falls on that spectrum, protecting eye health is crucial for overall well-being.

One of the most effective ways to safeguard vision is through annual comprehensive eye exams. By prioritizing eye health and supporting initiatives like Vision Beyond Sight, community members can help Outlook Enrichment ensure a stronger future for all.

For more information about Outlook Enrichment initiatives, visit outlooken.org.

Join Heartland Cancer Foundation in Giving Tuesday to Support Cancer Patients Without Leaving Your Home

This holiday season, you don’t have to attend an in-person event or fundraiser to make a meaningful difference for cancer patients in need.

On Tuesday, December 2, the Heartland Cancer Foundation (HCF) will be participating in Giving Tuesday, a unique virtual opportunity to show support by making a gift of any size to help neighbors who are struggling with transportation and housing costs during their cancer treatment.

Everyday bills like utilities and fuel should never be barriers for those facing cancer, yet many in our community struggle to afford them alongside mounting medical expenses. Your donation can ease these burdens; ensuring patients get the care they need without the added stress of financial worries.

Small contributions make more of a difference than you might think. For example, just $25 covers a roundtrip ride to a critical treatment session.

By participating in Giving Tuesday, you directly support HCF’s mission of providing practical and immediate financial assistance to eligible cancer patients in our community who need extra support. Whether its $25 or $100, every donation helps remove the barriers to care, so patients can focus on healing.

Visit heartlandcancerfoundation.org on or near December 2 to contribute. Together, we can support those bravely battling both cancer and financial hardship.

ProjectIntentionalExtendsGenerosityto345 Families This Holiday Season

This holiday season, Project Intentional will serve 345 families, representing 513 adults and 950 children, through its annual Love Can Store. Each household will receive socks, hygiene items, and a $150 check, offering parents the dignity of choice in how best to care for their loved ones.

During the application process, families overwhelmingly shared that any additional financial support would be used for essentials like paying a critical bill or putting food on the table. By trusting families, Project Intentional affirms their ability to make the best decisions for their household.

The need in our community continues to grow. This year, 644 families applied for sponsorship, nearly double the number the organization can serve. While the impact being made is significant, the demand far exceeds available resources, showing the urgent need for more individuals, businesses, and organizations to step forward.

The Love Can Store model is designed to reduce waste, keep resources local, and restore dignity to every participant. By focusing on what matters most, Project Intentional makes every contribution go further and helps families in the most meaningful way.

At the Love Can Store, love takes on a tangible form. It looks like dignity restored. It looks like generosity on display. And it looks like a community refusing to let families feel unseen or unsupported.

As Santa Monica House moved into October, the team carried that same energy into the United Way Campaign, making it a season of giving and connection. Staff came together for spirited activities including costume contests, pumpkin decorating, treat stations, a chili cook-off, and a bake-off. These events not only raised funds for a great cause but also strengthened the sense of community that makes Santa Monica House so special.

From art and awareness to laughter and friendly competition, these past months have shown what’s possible when people come together with purpose and heart. Santa Monica House looks forward to carrying this positive momentum into the holiday season.

Educareof OmahaCelebratesGivingTWOsday This Holiday Season

Educare of Omaha, Inc. is participating in #GivingTuesday402, the Omaha metro’s local version of the global Giving Tuesday movement, with a special twist called Giving TWOsday.

Giving Tuesday is a worldwide day of generosity that inspires people to give, share kindness, and support their communities. In the Omaha area, #GivingTuesday402, powered by SHARE Omaha, encourages donations to local nonprofits on Tuesday, Dec. 2, with opportunities to give starting Nov. 18.

Educare of Omaha serves children from birth to age five and their families, providing high-quality early learning, family engagement, and teacher support. This year’s Giving TWOsday campaign highlights the organization’s two-year-olds, joyful and curious learners who are building the foundation for lifelong success.

Supporters are invited to “give in twos” — donate $2, $20, or $200 — or complete two acts of kindness, one for someone in their life and one for Educare. Starting November 18, every donation counts toward daily prize drawings through SHARE Omaha, giving early contributors a chance to help Educare secure bonus funds to serve more children and families.

Giving TWOsday reflects Educare’s mission of supporting the partnership between families and educators to ensure every child thrives.

To give early or for more information, visit shareomaha.org/ nonprofit/educare-omaha-inc or call Dawn Olijnek, Development Director at (402) 561-6190.

YMCAof GreaterOmahaReceivesFundingto Support Women Aging in Place

The YMCA of Greater Omaha is celebrating a meaningful investment from the Community Foundation for Western Iowa, which awarded the YMCA Healthy Living Center (HLC) a $10,000 grant through the Women’s Fund of Southwest Iowa, and surprised the organization with an additional $5,000 in funding at the recent Impact for Women Summit.

The Healthy Living Center is the only wellness facility in the metro designed specifically for older adults, with more than 65% of its 2,000 members being women. The HLC provides senior-focused exercise, evidence-based wellness programs, and rich social opportunities that empower women to remain active, connected, and independent.

“The Community Foundation for Western Iowa continues to be an incredible partner in supporting women in our community. This generous investment will help us expand programs at the Healthy Living Center, especially for women aging in place, and strengthen the collaborations that make our communities stronger. We are so thankful for their leadership and commitment to building brighter futures for women across our region” said Rebecca Deterding, CEO of the YMCA of Greater Omaha.

In addition to grant funding, the YMCA Healthy Living Center was honored to contribute to the Summit in a personal way: the Community Crafters group handmade over 500 unique keychains, ensuring every attendee left with a one-of-a-kind gift celebrating women.

Red Cross: Take Steps Now to Support a

Strong Blood Supply

The American Red Cross asks donors to make an appointment now to give blood or platelets to support patients counting on a consistent blood supply to survive and heal. While emergencies often grab headlines, the need for blood is constant. Especially in October, as donation appointments can often drop quickly when people settle into busy fall routines and make plans around upcoming school breaks.

Because blood has a short shelf life and can only come from volunteer blood donors, any disruptions in the ability to collect lifesaving blood can have serious consequences for those seeking medical care.

Help patients this fall and make an appointment to give blood or platelets by visiting RedCrossBlood.org, calling 1-800-RED CROSS or by using the Red Cross Blood Donor App. Those who give Oct. 20-Nov. 16, will receive a $10 e-gift card to a merchant of choice, plus be automatically entered for a chance to win one of three $5,000 gift cards.

In addition to providing lifesaving blood products, the Red Cross mobilizes relief to families affected by disasters, trains people in lifesaving skills and provides services to active and veteran U.S. military personnel and their families. Donors can feel good knowing that by supporting the Red Cross, they can help family and friends in their communities and across the country. See RedCrossBlood.org/ Harvest for details.

The holiday season is just around the corner, and MICAH House is preparing to make this time of year special for the families who rely on the shelter. Each year, the organization welcomes children, parents, and women who are facing difficult circumstances, providing them with safety, stability, and hope. This holiday season, the community is invited to help bring comfort, joy, and a sense of celebration to those who need it most.

MICAH House is seeking donations of toys, clothing, and gifts for children, along with thoughtful presents for parents and the women who call our shelter home. Gift cards to stores such as Menards, Walmart, and Home Depot are especially valuable, helping us maintain daily operations and continue offering essential services to families in need. Every contribution, no matter the size, makes a tangible difference in the lives of those we serve.

Businesses and community groups are invited to host holiday gift or food drives, providing a simple way to make a meaningful impact. The shelter’s wish list, along with guidelines for donations and hosting drives, is available online at themicahhouse.org/holiday.

Joins More Than a Festival: The Economic Engine Behind North Omaha’s Holiday Tradition

Each December, North Omaha’s historic 24th and Lake district comes alive with Christmas in the Village, a vibrant celebration of culture, commerce and community. Presented by the Empowerment Network and Omaha Economic Development Corporation, and supported by dozens of local partners, the event draws more than 10,000 attendees and features over 70 local businesses and organizations, making it North Omaha’s largest holiday gathering.

Originally part of the North Omaha Village Revitalization Plan, Christmas in the Village has grown into a significant economic engine, boosting visibility and sales for small and Black-owned businesses. Local entrepreneurs, artists, food vendors and retailers benefit from increased foot traffic, strengthened brand awareness and new business partnerships.

Recognized as a model community by the Obama Foundation’s My Brother’s Keeper Alliance, the event supports youth development and community empowerment, aligning with Transformation 2030’s vision for safe, thriving neighborhoods. Families enjoy carriage rides, live music, local food and entertainment while experiencing North Omaha as a vibrant destination.

The success of Christmas in the Village has inspired additional events throughout the year, including Fall Fest, Trunk or Treat, Easter in the Village and First Fridays, generating cultural tourism and supporting a vision of more frequent community events.

This year’s Christmas in the Village takes place Dec. 6, from noon to 5 p.m. For more information and event details, visit empowermentnetwork.com.

Heroes Honor Ride Returns to Sturgis to Celebrate America’s Heroes

The open road will once again roar with purpose as Heroes Honor Ride, a nonprofit motorcycle event honoring America’s heroes, returns to Sturgis next August. The ride unites veterans, first responders and patriotic riders from across the country to celebrate courage, sacrifice and service.

Founded to “honor your American hero,” Heroes Honor Ride gives participants the chance to dedicate their ride to a specific hero—whether a veteran, police officer, firefighter, EMT or loved one who embodies service and selflessness.

“Every mile we ride is a tribute to someone who’s made a difference,” said Brian Thamm, vice president of Heroes Honor Ride. “This event is about uniting people through respect, gratitude and the shared belief that heroes deserve to be remembered and honored.”

The police escorted ride begins in Belle Fourche, South Dakota, and concludes at the legendary Buffalo Chip, where participants are greeted with live entertainment, recognition ceremonies and opportunities to connect with veteran and first responder support organizations.

As a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit, Heroes Honor Ride donates proceeds to programs supporting mental health, recovery and community initiatives for first responders and veterans.

Registration is now open at heroeshonorride.org. Riders and sponsors are encouraged to register early, as space is limited for this year’s event.

Breakthrough T1D Launches Early Detection ScreeningProgramduringNationalDiabetes Awareness Month

In recognition of National Diabetes Awareness Month, Breakthrough T1D (formerly JDRF) is encouraging Nebraskans to participate in its Early Detection screening program for type 1 diabetes (T1D). The initiative aims to identify individuals at risk for T1D before symptoms appear, providing the opportunity for early intervention and improved health outcomes.

Type 1 diabetes is a chronic autoimmune disease in which the body attacks insulin-producing cells in the pancreas. Insulin is a vital hormone that helps the body convert food into energy, and people with T1D require insulin therapy to survive. Most diagnosed individuals have no family history of the disease, making early detection critical.

A simple blood test can detect autoantibodies, markers indicating that the immune system is attacking insulin-producing cells. Advances in research now allow for risk detection years before symptoms develop, potentially preventing serious complications associated with T1D.

The Breakthrough T1D Early Detection program provides education, awareness and resources for participants, including guidance on preventive treatments or enrollment in clinical trials. Screenings are available through a physician’s office or at no cost through research studies.

For more information about early detection and participation, visit BreakthroughT1D.org/earlydetection or contact the Nebraska Chapter at (402) 397-2873. Early detection empowers individuals to act and make informed decisions for their health.

Supporting Families Through Memory Loss: How Caretech Enhances Memory Care

Caring for a loved one with memory loss presents unique challenges that can be overwhelming for families. As conditions like Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias progress, individuals often face difficulties with daily tasks, safety concerns, and emotional wellbeing. Navigating these challenges requires not only compassion but also specialized support to ensure the best quality of life for both the individual and their caregivers.

Caretech Inc., a leading provider of in-home care services in Nebraska, offers a compassionate solution for families facing these challenges. With over 20 years of experience, Caretech specializes in dementia and memory care, providing personalized, non-medical assistance that allows individuals to remain in the comfort of their own homes. Their services include help with personal hygiene, housekeeping, transportation, and cognitive stimulation activities, all tailored to meet the unique needs of those with memory impairments.

One of the critical aspects of memory care is the need for someone to help make decisions on behalf of the individual. Caretech’s trained caregivers not only assist with daily activities but also offer emotional support and guidance to families, helping them navigate the

complexities of memory loss care. This holistic approach ensures that all aspects of the individual’s well-being are addressed, providing peace of mind to families.

For those caring for loved ones with memory loss, partnering with Caretech can make a significant difference. Their expertise and compassionate care help families manage the challenges of memory loss, ensuring that their loved ones receive the respect, dignity, and support they deserve.

Legato Living: Locally Owned Heartfelt Care

Legato Living is changing the way families experience memory care. Erin Render, CEO of Legato Living, leads this company that offers residential memory care in smaller, actual home settings, rather than large facilities. Each home is locally owned and operated, ensuring personalized attention and consistent care for every resident.

“Our goal is to provide memory care in an environment where residents feel safe and supported, and families feel confident that their loved ones are in good hands,” said Render. “We focus on both the needs of the residents and the peace of mind of their families.”

Legato Living provides care for individuals at all stages of dementia, from early memory challenges to end-of-life care. The smaller home model allows for meaningful connections between residents and staff and ensures each person’s needs are met as the disease progresses. For families, this model provides relief and reassurance, knowing that trusted caregivers are communicating regularly and providing consistent support.

In addition to delivering high-quality care, Legato Living is helping others bring this model to their communities through franchising. While the Omaha metro is sold out, there are ownership opportunities in the Lincoln, Kearney, North Platte and Scottsbluff markets.

Founded in NE, Legato Living has five franchisees in the Omaha area and looks forward to growing throughout the rest of the state. Each home emphasizes good staffing ratios, individualized attention, and a supportive, family-centered approach. Families interested in learning more about memory care services or franchising opportunities are encouraged to contact Erin Render or visit one of the homes to see how Legato Living is making a difference in the lives of residents and their families.

At Maple Crest, care is personal. Every resident receives an individualized plan designed to support their physical, emotional, and social well-being. The Maple Gardens memory care unit provides a safe and calming setting where residents can thrive. A secure and supportive space is especially important for those with Alzheimer’s or dementia. It helps reduce stress and wandering while giving residents a sense of freedom within safe boundaries. Families can take comfort knowing their loved one is cared for by experienced, compassionate staff who understands memory loss and its challenges.

Choosing Maple Crest can also ease the strain on caregivers. Many families experience burnout while trying to manage every aspect of caring for a loved one on their own. By trusting Maple Crest, they gain peace of mind and the chance to focus on being family again, not just caretakers.

Maple Crest is known for its compassionate staff, individualized care, and strong community environment. Residents are treated with dignity, and families are supported every step of the way. This combination of safety, attention, and kindness continues to make Maple Crest a trusted choice for memory support in the Omaha area.

Honor ALL WHO SERVED

Veterans Day

November 11, 2025

The willingness of America’s veterans to sacrifice for our country has earned them our lasting gratitude.

There are approximately 105,516 Veterans residing in Nebraska, making up about 7.2% of the state’s population. Across the state, local businesses are stepping up with special deals and community events to honor their service. From restaurants offering free meals and discounts to retailers hosting veteran appreciation sales, businesses are finding meaningful ways to recognize those who have served. Nebraska also has a growing number of Veteran-owned businesses who are giving back to their community this year through sponsoring events, volunteering or partnering with local organizations that support veterans and their families. These efforts not only celebrate Veterans but also strengthen the connection between local businesses and the communities they serve, highlighting the important role Veterans have both in professional and in everyday life across Nebraska.

As Veterans Day approaches, it’s a chance to honor the courage and sacrifice of those who served—both the ones who never came home and those who returned forever shaped by their experiences. At Strictly Business, we believe it’s important to celebrate not only the fallen but also the Veterans who continue to strengthen our communities as business owners, neighbors and leaders. We encourage our readers to show appreciation, support veteran-owned businesses and recognize the heroes among us. This Veterans Day, let’s make it a point to stand behind the local businesses that proudly support our veterans.

Veteran-owned businesses bring a powerful combo of discipline, leadership and integrity to the marketplace. Rooted in the values of service and accountability, these entrepreneurs lead with purpose and a motivated mindset that inspires confidence among clients, employees, and partners alike. Their military experience equips them with exceptional organizational skills, strategic thinking, and the ability to adapt quickly under pressure, qualities that translate directly into strong business performance and dependable service. Beyond operational excellence, veteran business owners embody a deep sense of commitment to community and country. They approach each challenge with resilience and resourcefulness, turning obstacles into opportunities.

Consumers are also drawn to the authenticity and reliability that come with the veteran-owned title, often showing strong brand loyalty to companies that reflect those ideals. Additionally, many veteran entrepreneurs use their platforms to mentor others, foster teamwork, and build inclusive workplaces that value dedication and respect. With access to specialized certifications such as the Veteran-Owned Small Business (VOSB) and Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) programs, these businesses can also compete for government contracts and growth opportunities that strengthen local economies. In every industry, veteran-owned companies stand as a testament to the lasting impact of service… leading with honor, operating with excellence, and continuing to make a difference long after their time in uniform.
