MIJAS GOLF CLUB CLASSIC STYLE WITH A MODERN TOUCH
The Costa del Golf story would be incomplete without giving Mijas Golf a prominent chapter. In the popular Costa del Sol area east of Marbella, this two-course club is a pioneer of international golf. Both courses were designed by the irrepressible Robert Trent Jones, which by itself elevates Mijas Golf to the higher echelons of Costa golf amenities. Los Lagos was the first, built in 1984 and featuring numerous lakes (hence its name); while Los Olivos, which takes its name from the predominant olive trees, opened in 1984. Completely refurbished in recent years, the two courses remain infused with Trent Jones’s philosophy of “Difficult Par, Easy Bogey” - featuring minimal rough, plentiful water and relatively flat layouts. Los Lagos is considered more of a “competition course”, ideal for low handicappers although it can also be adapted for all players; and Los Olivos is more favoured by golfers with mid to high handicaps.
