El Paraiso in Estepona municipality might have a fairly low profile compared with Marbella’s more renowned clubs but it is in fact one of the Costa del Sol’s most popular courses among international golfers.
It also has the distinction of being designed by South African Gary Player, one of only five male golfers to have won at least one of each of the four Grand Slam titles – the others on that illustrious list are Gene Sarazen, Ben Hogan, Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods.
The course opened in 1973 and the following year it hosted a European Tour event, the El Paraiso Open, won by the Tour’s then number one player Peter Oosterhuis.
Winding through a tranquil valley with low-density housing and the backdrop of Marbella’s iconic La Concha peak, El Paraiso likes to describe itself as the Coast’s friendliest international club, welcoming golfers from around the world.
