Designed by legendary Spanish golf course architect Javier Arana and opened in 1965, Río Real presents golfers with a memorable combination of seafront holes and fairways bordered by verdant vegetation including pine, palm, casuarina, olive and cypress trees.

In many ways, the eastern part of Marbella municipality offers golfers a more relaxed experience than some of the higher-profile courses to the west. Although conveniently located just a few minutes from the town centre, on the main coastal highway, Marbella Golf nestles in an area favoured by a community of multinational residents who enjoy a more family-orientated ambience than bustling beach clubs and nightclubs.

Not that this superb course could be described as low-key. For those in the know – from visiting tour pros using its amenities to local amateur societies – it is admired as a demanding yet fair challenge.
