Río Real offers golfers the best of all of Marbella’s wonderfully diverse worlds. Located just five minutes from the town centre, the course meanders through one of the Costa del Sol’s most select and tranquil residential areas. It extends from the Sierra Bermeja mountains, along the “Royal” river that gives it its name, all the way down to the Mediterranean Sea and one of the most attractive beaches in Marbella.

Designed by legendary Spanish golf course architect Javier Arana and opened in 1965, Río Real presents golfers with a memorable combination of seafront holes and fairways bordered by verdant vegetation including pine, palm, casuarina, olive and cypress trees.

The chic centrepiece of the club is an exquisitely decorated boutique hotel, which provides guests and visitors with other top leisure amenities including tennis and pádel courts, an elegant restaurant with panoramic views over the course, and a cutting-edge spa offering sports, therapeutic and podiatry massages.

OUTSTANDING GOLF CHALLENGE ON MARBELLA’S OUTSKIRTS

In many ways, the eastern part of Marbella municipality offers golfers a more relaxed experience than some of the higher-profile courses to the west. Although conveniently located just a few minutes from the town centre, on the main coastal highway, Marbella Golf nestles in an area favoured by a community of multinational residents who enjoy a more family-orientated ambience than bustling beach clubs and nightclubs.

Not that this superb course could be described as low-key. For those in the know – from visiting tour pros using its amenities to local amateur societies – it is admired as a demanding yet fair challenge. How could it not be with the original design having been signed off by none-other than Robert Trent Jones, one of the finest golf course architects in the history of the sport?

Post or pre-round, the clubhouse’s art deco restaurant offers breathtaking views of the sea, olive groves and mountain backdrop.
