The town’s floral space around the Cenotaph, overlooking Stray Park, is home to James Street, one of the towns busiest shopping areas. Along with the Victoria shopping centre, West Park and Montpellier Quarter (complete with cobbled streets), you’ll discover boutiques, jewellers, booksellers, delicatessens and award winning food halls, plus a department store. For groceries, all the major supermarkets are within easy reach and there is both a Sainsbury’s and a Waitrose.

The iconic 19th century Pump Room has been converted into a museum and tells the story of the town’s spa history.

Mercer Gallery houses a collection of artwork covering the town’s history.

The Victorian Royal Baths are a grade II listed building and home to the internationally famous Turkish Baths and Spa. Treatments and therapies are available (by appointment).

Montpellier Quarter has cobbled streets off which there are art galleries, antique and vintage shops, jewellers, boutiques, restaurants, cafés and bars.

There are several theatres in Harrogate including the Royal Hall. You’ll find a packed programme of drama, music, comedy and dance shows.

The Harrogate Spring Flower Show (there’s one in autumn too) attracts around 100,000 gardening enthusiasts each year and is a must for anyone who is looking for some inspiration.

Harrogate offers cycling routes for the most ardent, thrill seeking adventurer, to those who just want a gentle meander around the Yorkshire countryside.

Harrogate has its own programme of International Festivals including the Crime Writing Festival, Children’s Festival and the History Festival.
