Henderson, Demchuk, Todd re-elected in municipal election By STAFF
News - It was a good night for three local mayors seeking re-election on Monday. Unofficial results give David Henderson the victory in Brockville and a third term at the helm of city council. He defeated challengers Louise Severson and Cec Drake. Vote totals were 2,826 for Henderson, 2,394 for Severson and 2,127 for Drake. Henderson received about 38.8 per cent of the popular vote. Seven incumbent councillors in Brockville led by Mike Kalivas were also re-elected based on unofficial results. They will be joined by Phil Deery, who placed eighth. In Gananoque, Erika Demchuk will serve another four-year term. Unofficial results on Monday night gave her 1,282 votes. James Garrah placed second with 888 votes, followed by Joe Truesdell with 756 and Don Mills with 254. With most polls reporting on Monday night, Prescott Mayor Brett Todd had a significant lead over former mayor Sandra Lawn and first-time candidate Kelly Cole. Todd was a town councillor when he defeated then-incumbent Suzanne Dodge to become mayor after the 2010 election. During Brockville’s first five days of polling from last Monday to Friday, advance voter turnout was lower than during the same period in the 2010 municipal election. This year’s voter total for the five-day period was 3,615 compared to 3,979 four years ago.
