Upper Canada Village adds new exhibits to Pumpkinferno By TIM RUHNKE
truhnke@metroland.com
Events – Pumpkinferno has become a shining example of a successful fall festival. The third edition of the attraction at Upper Canada Village (UCV) premiered on Friday, Oct. 3 and is open to the public on select nights between now and the beginning of November. The nighttime walking tour brings tens of thousands of people to UCV and the Morrisburg area each fall. “It’s definitely a significant part of our operations,” said Susan Le Clair, manager of customer service and corporate
communications. Pumpkinfest visitors will be able to check out 30 exhibits that contain a total of more than 6,000 intricately carved and lit artificial pumpkins. This year’s presentation includes new exhibits that include the animals of Noah’s Ark as well as nine Ford vehicles. “Monster Smash” features iconic Halloween movie monsters. The redesigned sound and light show – Pumpkin Promenade – is an exhibit in front of Crysler Hall. Overall refinements to the displays include additional wall-washer and mood lighting as well as more sound effects. It takes about 40 minutes to navigate

Set-up takes about two weeks and follows the end of the summer season at UCV. The creative group is led by Liam Mills, whose designs are taken by a team of students and brought to life in the pumpkins and displays. “Our whole team is very excited to share this newly inspired experience with our visitors,” stated UCV Manager Geoff Waycik, who added that the new festival has “…raised the bar creatively on the level of artistry of the exhibits we will have on display.”

Friday started out as being a pleasant evening as guests began to arrive at the village to catch the first glimpse of Pumpkinferno 2014. Among those on hand for opening night was Nina Grenier of Montreal, who travelled to Morrisburg with three generations of her family. Grenier said she heard about the attraction from a neighbour and went online to learn more about it. The visitors had a meal at the Harvest Barn before seeing Pumpkinferno for themselves. “I love it,” she commented near the end of the walking tour. Alexis Grenkie of Morrisburg indicated that she really liked the Hall of Horoscopes. Alexis – a Pisces – is looking for-
