Big news for YMCA at end of fundraising drive By DOREEN BARNES

Several announcements took place during the 2015 Annual Giving Campaign: Strong Kids Donor Appreciation Luncheon last Thursday, Sept. 10, that included large amounts of money. An announcement was made by Paul Fournier that the Don and Shirley Green Family Foundation donated $500,000 to the YMCA of Brockville and Area Foundation. As well, Ian McFall, co-chair with Mary Mansworth of the 2015 Annual Giving Campaign: Strong Kids, unveiled the amount raised for this effort, $324,234 towards the goal of $400,000. Adding to the excitement of the day, the 120 attendees were advised that the Y’s chief executive officer position was filled. “Dianna Deakin-Thomas has agreed to be here with us for as long as we need,” said board of directors Chair Catherine Deplaedt. Deplaedt also thanked those present for their support, time and contributions to the YMCA of Brockville and Area. Everyone, regardless of financial circumstances, is welcome at the Y. “Young and old alike, no one is turned away due to the inability to pay,” said Deplaedt. “Last year, we welcomed 1,929 individuals who were not able to participate without your help. The dollar value to support those 1,929 individuals was $382,299 and that need, unfortunately, continues to grow.” For those wishing to donate, contact Anna Hudson, director of development, communications and relationship management, at 613-342-7961.
