WHAT IT IS, WHY WE DO IT, AND WHO WE NOMINATED

he "Transition Trucking: Driving for Excellence" campaign, launched in the spring of 2016, is part of an overall effort to inspire the hiring of more veterans, national guard members, and reservists into the trucking industry. As the main part of the campaign, deserving veteran drivers who had made a successful transition from military service to the trucking industry are able to participate in a chance to win a new Kenworth T680.

In an effort to curb the driver shortage and create immediate jobs for transitioning military personnel, the U.S Chamber of Commerce Foundation's Hiring Our Heroes Program, Kenworth, and FASTPORT have come together to award a fully loaded T-680 truck to a deserving veteran who enters the trucking industry.

The search for America’s top military rookie driver will educate veterans and America about the support from leading manufacturers and service providers

Stevens Transport is honored to recognize the veteran members of our premier driving force. The Transition Trucking award provides us the unique opportunity to recognize a select group of our veteran rookie drivers and honor their service to our great country through nomination for this award.

For more than 40 years, Stevens Transport has been supporting our men and women in uniform and we are proud to offer service members an opportunity to find a new home with the Stevens Family.

This year, Stevens is proud to nominate three drivers, William Lambert, Jimmy Reddell, and Marcus Ellis for the 2021 Transition Trucking: Driving for Excellence award.

Transition Trucking Marcus Ellis answered the call to serve in 1999, at the age of 28, and honorably served in the United States Air Force for over 20 years. Serving under his specialty as a Munitions System Craftsman for his entire tenure, Marcus was tasked with the safeguarding and transportation of our nations ammunitions. Marcus spent time inspecting, assembling, and testing some of the warheads that are still used by our military to this day. After faithfully serving his country for over two decades, Marcus retired from the United States Air Force in 2020 at the rank of TSgt in 2020.

Obtained CDL through

William Lambert enlisted in the Navy in 1989. He culminated his 20 years of service at the rank of AE1. During his time in the service, he was involved in three major tactical worldwide deployments. Williams' duties, responsibilities and expertise included the development, testing and deployment of advanced surveillance technology still utilized today. In 2009, with a desire to continue his service to his country, William transitioned into the role of Defense Contractor for another 12 years, where he specialized in the development of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs). These same UAVs proved to be invaluable to the overall war effort and continue to provide incalculable benefit to current law enforcement efforts through life saving surveillance, intelligence gathering, and border control.

A native of Little Rock, AR, Jimmy knew from a young age he wanted to serve his country. Shortly after his 17th birthday, a conversation he had with an Army recruiter would “shape his future”. Impressed with what his recruiter had to offer, he soon enlisted in the Army for what would be a 22-year long career. Jimmy was assigned to a variety of mission critical positions. Prior to his retirement, Jimmy played a key role in the Hurricane Katrina rescue and cleanup missions. In his final assignment, Jimmy’s career came full cycle when he retired as an Army recruiter.

DRIVER REFERRAL PROGRAM

PAY INCREASE

S

tevens Transport, the largest refrigerated trucking company in Texas and North America's premier multi-modal, temperaturecontrolled freight carrier, implemented our largest driver pay increase in Company history, effective June 23rd, 2021.

“We are committed to rewarding all of our Drivers for the incredible work they are performing for our customers. We are proud to have announced our second pay increase in the past 24 months. The most recent pay increase will be our largest in our 41 years of operation, and will immediately increase the pay in our OTR, Regional and Dedicated divisions” said Clay Aaron, President.

“Stevens Transport remains committed to rewarding drivers for the safe and professional work they do.

We will continue to provide a long-term career path with opportunities for financial growth for all drivers across all divisions,” added Clay Aaron.

The new compensation plan increases OTR division pay by approximately 10%. Company Drivers can now earn up to $.60 cents per mile, depending on level of experience. Drivers in the dedicated and regional division can now earn up to $.64 cents per mile depending on the region, experience, and the customer they are delivering for. Finally, this new pay increase means that our Teams in the expedited division will be earning more than $150,000 annually.

SAFETY BONUS

GUARANTEED PAY PROGRAM

“America needs more new drivers than ever before, and our new increased pay packages will help create tremendous jobs for thousands of men and women. In addition to raising our CPM for all current drivers, we are also increasing training pay for new drivers by 15% and have officially rolled out a new guaranteed weekly pay package.”, said Angela Horowitz, Vice President.

To reward our premier drivers, this historic pay increase also comes with a quarterly safety bonus.

This safety bonus will serve to reward our drivers that maintain a superior service record and make the roadways a safer place for all.

HEALTHY LIFESTYLE on the Road.

A

s an over the road truck driver, it can be challenging to live a healthy lifestyle, when you are often in high stress situations, and spend half of your day sitting in the driver’s seat.

Living a healthy lifestyle and driving a truck for a living can sometimes be at odds. One Stevens Transport driver, Benjamin Becerra credits his decision to become a professional driver to help him face a serious health issue.

Benjamin Becerra's journey to lose weight and live a healthier lifestyle began at truck driving school. A requirement for obtaining a CDL is a DOT physical, basically a medical exam or physical administered by a medical professional approved by the Department of Transportation.

Benjamin learned he was morbidly obese through this physical, and it became a light bulb moment for him. This news put Ben a on path to change not only his life but to also impact the lives of his driver trainees too.

“Prior to coming to Stevens in 2018, I felt like I was in a darker place, but I never truly realized it, because I had never had a physical”, said Benjamin.

“The doctors told me that I was morbidly obese, and that really resonated with me, it truly struck a nerve.” Benjamin was given a 30-day medical card with the instruction that he had to lose the weight prior to its expiration. With that, Benjamin put his weight loss journey in high gear, and began to research ways for truck drivers to stay active

on the road. Fast forward 30 days, Benjamin shed 40 pounds and was motivated to go all the way.

Today, Benjamin has lost nearly 90 pounds in the last two years.

Benjamin started off the first 90 days of his journey with the popular “keto diet”, a diet that focuses on low carb intake, and a calorie deficit.

After the first 90 days, Ben made the point to incorporate exercise into his daily routine, so that he could keep the weight that he was losing off.

With the use of some weighted jump ropes and kettle bells, Ben can work out next to his truck at truck stops and stay active at any time. When he is able, Ben likes to take his students to Planet Fitness, as his guest, so that they may too be inspired to take focus on staying active.

Nearly three years after his weight loss journey began, Ben continues to focus on his health and hopes to inspire other drivers to follow in his footsteps.

MICHAEL JOHNSON

We are pleased to announce the promotion of Brian Faust to Director of Driver Management.

Brian joined Stevens in October of 2020 as our Senior Project Manager.

Prior to coming to Stevens, Brian spent 9 years with JB Hunt taking on some key leadership roles, most recently as the Senior Manager of Operations leading team’s ranging from 20-120 employees specializing in high profile newly awarded business. Prior to that role, he moved to various locations across the Northeast starting up newly acquired large scale accounts.

We are pleased to announce the promotion of Michael Johnson to Driver Manager Operations Lead for our Comfort Zone fleet. Michael joined the Stevens Transport family in May of 2017 as a Driver Manager. Michael went on to build his knowledge of the business working as a Produce Account Specialist in the produce department, then further advancing to West Coast Planner. With each promotion, Michael’s experience and tenure will be instrumental in allowing him to hit the ground running on our rapidly growing comfort zone fleet. In this role, Michael will be overseeing the day-to-day operations of a 250 truck fleet, as well as managing a team of 7 driver managers.

Director of Driver Management

Brian is originally from the Pittsburgh area where he attended the University of Pittsburgh where he majored in Finance. Brian’s wife is a Project Coordinator for a Pharmaceutical Company focusing on technological advancements surrounding pediatric cardiac ultrasounds. (new job for her after she finished her masters) We look forward to Brian working on Sam’s team as a key contributor to the further growth and development of our Operations team.

Driver Manager Operations Lead

Michael is a native of the DFW metroplex and graduated from Texas Statue University with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. Outside of work, Michael enjoys being outdoors and spending time with his wife and two children.

We look forward to Michael working on Sam’s team as a key contributor to the further growth and development of our Operations team.

he Beusings display the true meaning of “like father like son” in the trucking industry. The two families have been with Stevens Transport for decades and enjoy the opportunities to succeed together as over the road truck drivers.

Steven Buesing (right) and Steven Buesing Jr. (left) are a father and son duo that have been teamed up on the road since August of last year. The Beusings are members of the Kraft dedicated fleet and are independent contractors with Stevens Transport CD. When asked what their favorite part of working together was, Steven said, "It’s pretty incredible to be able to work alongside my son. There is no one that I trust more, and it really helps to make the stresses of driving a lot more manageable.

I worked mostly nights in the oil field for over 30 years, and it works out well for me that my son can drive the days, while I drive the long nights." Steven Jr. shared the love of being a team with his father, "No one in the world knows me better than my dad, and it has been a blessing to get to work with him every day.

There is never a dull moment in this truck." The Buesings’ both agreed that the ability to see different parts of the country was very appealing to them, and as avid NASCAR fans, they have been able to see nearly every racetrack in the US, while working with Stevens.

#MEETSTEVENS Nicholas Martin

Operations Management Trainee ____________________________________________ Nicholas Martin, a recent Texas Tech graduate, will be joining the Operations Department as an Operations Management Trainee. With a degree in Supply Chain Management, Nicholas is eager to jump right in and apply his education to become a premier contributor to our operations team. Growing up in a town of less than 200, Nicholas spent most of his time hunting and fishing, as well as doing a lot of reading.

Outside of the office, Nicholas can be found playing golf and spending time with his friends and family.

Megan Wood

Kraft Dedicated Driver Manager ____________________________________________ Megan Wood has been a member of the Stevens Transport family for nearly two years.

Megan was born and raised in Connecticut, however she obtained her college degree from the University of Cape Town in South Africa. After falling in love with Cape Town, Megan decided to start a career in transportation as Fleet Maintenance Manager and spent 13 years of her life in South Africa. After moving to Dallas, Megan found a home at the largest transportation company in Texas and has been with us ever since.

Application Verifier ____________________________________________ Kearra will be joining the recruiting department, after spending several years in tax research, a field that requires close attention to detail. Susana Zuniga

OS&D Claims Specialist ____________________________________________ Susana joined the Stevens Transport family this year as an OS&D Claims Specialist.

Susana was drawn to Stevens by the growth potential and family feel that is hard to find in larger businesses. Growing up in Dallas, Susana enjoyed playing the cello, a talent that she spent 10 years perfecting. Prior to coming to Stevens, Susana had never been exposed to the inner workings of the transportation industry. As she has learned the ropes of the fast-paced operations department, Susana has become a valued member of the team, and used her work as motivation to grow professionally and climb the ranks here at Stevens.

Herbert Floyd

Driver Retention Specialist ____________________________________________ Herbert has been around the block in his time at Stevens Transport. Since joining Stevens in 2001, Herbert has spent two decades as a driver, spending time as a company driver, independent contractor, and owner operator. Herbert feels that through his new position he can make a difference in the lives of all the drivers that he speaks to. “I had a wonderful career spanning over twenty years as a Stevens driver, and my new role gives me ability to help others follow in my footsteps.” Herbert enjoys spending his time away from work with his wife and children, watching them play the sports that they love.

Intermodal Planner ____________________________________________ Ryan is no stranger to the transportation industry! After obtaining a degree in Supply Chain from the University of North Texas, Ryan went on to JB Hunt where he worked as a Transportation Manager. With a vast knowledge of intermodal operations, and lots of industry experience, Ryan will be a key piece of our intermodal team.
