Gerald Rhoden’s extraordinary career is a shining example of excellence in the trucking industry, built on expertise, mentorship, and passion. With over 4.8 million collision-free miles over 26 years, his commitment to professionalism, safety, and excellence has made him a true legend behind the wheel.

Throughout his career, Gerald has consistently achieved major milestones, earning accolades such as Trainer of the Year, Trainer of the Month, and Driver of the Month. Lease Completion

SUCESS STORIES INDEPENDENT CONTRACTOR

Anthony Rivera began his career at Stevens Transport in July 2012, after receiving his CDL from Roadmaster in Florida. In December of 2012, Anthony decided to join the Contractor Division. Celebrating his fourth lease completion, Anthony shared that each lease has been a significant accomplishment for him and is a reflection and reminder of his ability to reach his goals, starting and finishing what he sets out to do!

Anthony enjoys being in the Contractor Division because of the increased earning potential and being an active participant in the travel routes. For those considering becoming an Independent Contractor, Anthony advises new drivers to focus on learning – learn the loads, destinations, and routes, and by doing so, a driver stays proactive to the process. He credits his success to having a true passion for driving. Anthony is also a Driver Trainer and enjoys training and helping new drivers succeed. Outside of work, Anthony enjoys working out and expressing his creativity through drawing.

Christopher Best is incredibly proud to have completed his second lease with Stevens Transport and feels a great sense of accomplishment! Christopher was seeking a career change when he saw a Stevens training truck. He immediately took a photo and called the number. He found the timing perfect and soon after received his CDL from Stevens Driving Academy! Christopher joined the Contractor Division in November 2022.

Christopher encourages new drivers to determine what works best for them and to stick with it. For Christopher, having an early start to each day contributes to his success, making the day smoother and less distracting. He appreciates the many resources available to independent contractors that allow him to continue to learn. Outside of work, he enjoys golfing, fishing, and working out. He is a regular at gyms across the country and recommends Planet Fitness to fellow drivers for its trucker-friendly facilities and parking.

Cleveland Freeman III received his CDL from Tampa Truck Driving School and began his journey with Stevens Transport Contractor Division in January 2023. While working as a trailer technician, Cleveland enjoyed learning the ins and outs of working on tires, axles, and seals, but he soon realized he preferred being behind the wheel. With a passion for driving, the transition was seamless. Cleveland is also a Driver Trainer and takes pride in mentoring the next generation of drivers.

He credits his success to his faith and perseverance. He encourages new drivers to always have a plan and stay prepared. He is proud to have completed his first lease and values the strong support from Stevens Transport. Cleveland signed his second lease and is looking forward to the continued success and experiencing more of the country, which he describes as his “home” and “backyard.” Outside of work, Cleveland enjoys drag racing, fishing, and outdoor activities.

Welcome TO OUR NEW SEASONAL SAFETY TIP

DRIVING SAFELY THROUGH WORK ZONES

There are important safety rules that we continuously share with our CMV drivers when navigating work zones. Remember these key points and help keep the roads safe.

PAYING ATTENTION—Keep your eyes on the road. It is against the law to make hand-held phone calls while driving (FMCSA regulations). Although drivers can use handsfree devices to make phone calls, refraining from phone use while behind the wheel eliminates it as a distraction. Take note of any signage, especially in work zones, and abide by all signage directions.

SLOWING DOWN—Drivers should slow down when entering a work zone and maintain a lower speed throughout. This is especially important when construction workers are physically present. Slowing down in work zones can also allow for more reaction time in the event of unexpected hazards. Abide by the speed limit posted in construction zones, and not the flow of traffic.

MOVING OVER TO OPEN LANES—When approaching work zones, drivers should move into open lanes as early as possible. This can ensure safely distancing before changing lanes, preventing potential accidents. Drivers should always be aware of blind spots.

KEEPING A SAFE DISTANCE—Both in and out of work zones, drivers should allow adequate distance between themselves and other vehicles. This can help minimize rear-end accidents. FMCSA reported rear-end collisions have increased by 39% in recent years, keeping this an especially crucial practice.

ALWAYS BE AWARE OF YOUR SURROUNDINGS: Keep your eyes moving -- Scan the horizon, stay mindful of vehicles moving on to the roadway, watch for stale green lights, intersections, and check mirrors and gauges.

We are excited to announce that Karri Jameson has joined the Stevens Transport Executive Leadership Team as our new Vice President of Safety, effective February 17th.

Bringing over two decades of safety leadership experience, Karri previously served as Senior Director of Safety for Walmart Transportation’s Private Fleet, overseeing over 15,000 drivers and over 14,000 tractors while implementing industry-leading safety programs. His commitment to fostering a zero-accident culture and ensuring compliance with DOT, FMCSA, and OSHA standards earned him recognition as a Safety Champion in the industry. Karri also played a key role in launching Walmart’s first CDL School and developing innovative safety training programs to reduce incidents and accidents.

A native Texan, he began his career in the oil fields, where he quickly recognized the importance of safety and made it his mission to drive meaningful changes in the transportation industry. Outside of work, Karri enjoys spending time with his family and traveling. Please join us in welcoming Karri Jameson to Stevens Transport—and the leadership and expertise he brings to our team!

DRIVER SPOTLIGHT MEET TAJ BURTON

Taj Burton, a Kraft Dedicated Independent Contractor from Dallas, Texas, is proud to have completed her two-year lease with Stevens Transport! After earning her CDL, Taj transitioned from a 17-year career as a school bus driver to the transportation industry, with the goal of owning her own truck. She discovered Stevens through recommendations from a fellow school bus driver and her sister, who has also been with the company for over two years. One of her most memorable experiences at Stevens was serving as a driver trainer, where she enjoyed mentoring other women and sharing the knowledge she gained on her own journey.

Here is what scammers will do so that you can recognize a threat:

As an Independent Contractor, Taj has gained valuable operational and financial skills with support from the Contractor Division Business Team. Her next goal is to become an Owner Operator and purchase her own truck, with aspirations to build a fleet. Taj credits her success to her focus, determination, and the support of the CD Team. She particularly values the love and encouragement she receives from Stevens Transport. Outside of work, Taj enjoys traveling, vacationing, and attending church on Sundays.

My success is attributed to perseverance - continuing to push forward, maintaining focus, and relying on prayer. It is essential to navigate and handle each situation with determination and adaptability.

ORGANIZATIONAL SUCCESS

The Role of Human Resource Business Partners

Stevens Transport recognizes that our employees are their most significant asset. To harness this potential, Stevens Transport is transitioning to a Human Resource Business Partners (HRBP) team strategy. This transition involves aligning human resource strategies with business goals. By collaborating on career development, leadership training, and goal setting, Stevens Transport’s HRBPs can pave the way for a high-performing corporate environment.

Understanding the HRBP Team – Strategies and Business Goals

Unlike traditional HR roles focused primarily on administrative tasks, HRBPs engage in proactive partnership with business leaders, contributing to strategic discussions and decisions. They bring a unique blend of HR expertise and business mindsets, enabling them to influence organizational culture and performance.

Professional Leadership Development – Identify and Nurture

Investing in leadership development is key at Stevens Transport. Not only does it cultivate a high-performing workforce, it also helps to identify potential leaders and implement programs that support growth and tenure. This includes mentoring initiatives and leadership training sessions that foster a culture of continuous improvement.

HRBPs help create a pipeline of capable leaders who are ready to take on future challenges and can partner with executives to define leadership competencies. This supports business objectives and is a proactive approach that ensures Stevens Transport can navigate changes in the industry and maintain our competitive edge.

Training and Goal Setting

The HRBP Team assesses the training needs of employees and can design programs that equip them with the necessary skills to meet Stevens Transport’s organizational goals. This process is enhanced by the establishment of clear key performance indicators (KPIs) that measure the effectiveness of training initiatives.

Driving a High-Performance Culture

The cumulative effect of leadership training and effective goal setting is the cultivation of a high-performance culture. HRBPs are instrumental in fostering an environment where employees feel valued and empowered to contribute to the organization’s success. They promote open communication, encourage feedback, and recognize achievements, which enhances employee morale and productivity.

The role of the Stevens Transport HRBP team will be pivotal in driving sustainable growth and achieving long-term objectives. We are excited for the transition to this strategic alignment of HR initiatives with business objectives.
