SUMMER SAFETY TIP

STAY SHARP IN SEASONAL TRAFFIC

Summer may be peak season for sunshine and travel, but for CDL truck drivers, it also means heightened road risks. With school out and more families hitting the highways, traffic congestion increases, and so does the chance of accidents.

Longer daylight hours and more road construction can add to the stress, making it critical for professional truck drivers to stay extra alert and practice patience. Even experienced drivers can be caught off guard by sudden lane changes, distracted vacationers, or unpredictable local traffic in tourist-heavy areas.

WHY EXTRA CAUTION IS CRITICAL IN SUMMER TRAFFIC:

INCREASED TRAFFIC VOLUME

Students are out of school and more families are traveling.

MORE DISTRACTED DRIVERS

Vacationers may be unfamiliar with routes and less focused.

CONSTRUCTION SEASON

Road repairs and detours are common during warmer months.

HEAT-RELATED FATIGUE

Long hours in the sun can cause drowsiness or slower reaction times.

PEDESTRIAN AND CYCLIST ACTIVITY RISES

Especially in suburban or tourist areas.

Staying vigilant, well-rested, and hydrated can go a long way in making sure every summer mile is a safe one.

Welcome

DRIVER SPOTLIGHT MEET TIFFANY BRAUD

Tiffany Braud, an Independent Contractor from New Orleans, Louisiana, is celebrating her first two-year lease completion with Stevens Transport Contractor Division! After earning her CDL at Lonestar and finishing at Stevens Driving Academy, Tiffany made a bold career change, leaving the world of high-end boutiques to pursue a future in trucking. “Stevens felt like the right fit,” she says, and it quickly proved true. Tiffany took on the role of driver trainer, mentoring over 20 new drivers and working to change the narrative for women in the trucking industry. “I love seeing my students succeed—it makes me feel accomplished.” She came in with a five-year plan, and completing her lease was a key milestone. “The lease completion bonus was a great reward, but more than that, I truly feel valued as a driver here,” she says. Her next goal? Purchasing her own truck.

Tiffany credits much of her success to her trainer, Michael Richardson, who she says taught her valuable lessons early on. She also speaks highly of her driver manager, Steve Lewis, and fellow driver Lewis Greeno for their ongoing support. “Network, stay positive, and connect with the right people,” she advises. “That’s how you succeed out here.”

Health is also a priority. Tiffany stays hydrated, eats light and fresh meals on the road, and believes in regular exercise. Her favorite part of the job? “The views. Every day, the scenery changes. I get to see the country.” When she’s not on the road, Tiffany treasures spending quality time with her six grandchildren.

SUCESS STORIES INDEPENDENT CONTRACTOR

Deshaun Kuykendall

Keith Brown

Anthony "Tony" Green Independent Contractor Independent Contractor Independent Contractor

Please join us in congratulating Deshaun Kuykendall on completing his third lease with Stevens Transport a major accomplishment in a journey defined by hard work and determination. Deshaun, originally from Houston, Texas, began his career with Stevens in 2018 after earning his CDL from Stevens Driving Academy. After a brief break, he returned in 2023. Now a successful Driver Trainer, Deshaun finds fulfillment in watching his students gain independence and succeed in the industry. “It feels great to see them overcome challenges and achieve their goals,” he says. He credits his success to dedication and support from mentors and peers, including Dianca Lights Petty, Driver Manager Chris Nelson, his students, and best friend Bryan Weinkauf. His advice to new drivers: “Don’t give up. Stay focused, work hard, and always keep the bigger picture in mind. Keep moving and keep earning.” When he's off the road, Deshaun enjoys traveling, live music and cheering on the Houston Texans. Congratulations, Deshaun, and here's to even greater success ahead!

Keith Brown recently completed his lease with Stevens Transport Contractor Division, a short-term goal he set for his trucking journey. Inspired by his father, a truck driver, and introduced to Stevens Transport by his mother, Keith made the transition from a 7-year career as a service technician at Toyota to the open road. After earning his CDL through Stevens Driving Academy, Keith joined the company in October 2022. He credits his wife’s support as a key part of his success. One of his most memorable experiences was during CDL training, where instructors Gabriel and Mr. Samson offered valuable, yet contrasting approaches to learning, and also highlighted the importance of hard work and keeping things simple. Keith enjoys traveling across states and especially looks forward to routes that take him back home to Houston. His favorite customer is Hershey's because of the candy perks! He advises new drivers to, "Look out for yourself. No one's going to do it for you." When he’s not behind the wheel for work, he’s still driving places because driving has always been a passion.

Anthony “Tony” Green has been a proud member of the Contractor Division since 2010. Celebrating his third lease completion as an IC, Tony continues to inspire with his dedication, leadership, and passion for the road. Tony was drawn to Stevens Transport by the promise of opportunity, and the freedom to build his own business. “If you control your biggest expense, fuel, you control your money,” he says. That mindset helps him thrive in the Contractor Division and has led to over a decade of success. Tony also served as a trainer for 13 years, proudly transforming his truck into a rolling classroom built on safety, accountability, and mentorship and always with the goal of giving back to the industry he loves. Tony is known for his infectious energy and positivity. Having overcome personal hardships and loss, he continues to live fully and grateful for the life he’s built. With nearly a million safe miles, Tony is aiming for one more milestone: his induction into the Haul of Fame! No matter where he goes, one thing’s certain, he’ll leave a smile behind. Congratulations, Tony!

Congratulations!

the escalating threat of cargo theft

CARGO THEFT IN THE U.S.: HIGH-VALUE TRUCKING IN THE CROSSHAIRS

The U.S. trucking industry is facing an alarming surge in high-value cargo thefts, with organized criminal operations targeting motor carriers hauling lucrative commodities such as pharmaceuticals, proteins, and other sensitive goods. Over the past three months, Stevens Transport has fallen victim to this sophisticated, well-coordinated crime wave involving 3 separate thefts. All 3 thefts occurred at Vince Lombardi Applegreen Travel Plaza in Ridgefield, New Jersey.

These thefts, amounting to thousands of dollars each time, are believed to be orchestrated by a highly organized group of thieves. The frequency and nature of these attacks signal a disturbing escalation in cargo crime, which is now sweeping across the nation.

In response to these ongoing threats, Stevens Transport has taken decisive action by banning Vince Lombardi Truckstop as a fuel and rest stop for our drivers. "Safety and cargo security are our top priorities," said a Stevens Transport spokesperson. "We are actively partnering with local law enforcement, industry stakeholders, and our customers to develop targeted operations aimed at identifying and apprehending those responsible."

Stevens Transport has also invested heavily in advanced security technologies, including GPS tracking, real-time surveillance, and tamper-evident seals, to safeguard our valuable shipments. Despite these efforts, vigilance remains critical. Drivers are urged to exercise heightened caution, especially during overnight stops and during breaks. The industry-wide challenge of cargo thefts is increasingly prevalent across the nation and demanding a proactive response.

We ask all our drivers and associates to be extra vigilant, follow approved parking policies, avoid high-risk areas, and report any suspicious activity immediately. Our collective effort is essential in combatting this growing threat.

Stevens Transport reaffirms its commitment to maintaining the highest security standards and supporting our drivers in their vital role. We extend our sincere appreciation to our dedicated team members. Your alertness and adherence to safety protocols are essential in safeguarding sensitive cargo.
