The Coca-Cola Summer Sizzle is a carrier competition throughout the summer, beginning the second week of May and going through Labor Day. Summertime means peak sales and production volume for CocaCola, across all brands. A winner is announced on a weekly basis and an overall winner will be announced at the end of the summer. Last year, we won first place! We are scored directly by procurement on our performance on primary lanes (on time delivery, on time pickup, and providing surge on those lanes). We also take as much overflow volume to assist with the surge in demand. Winning this competition means strengthening our partnership with Coca-Cola, additional business opportunities, and being a contender for additional awards such as, Coca-Cola Asset Carrier of the Year. Stevens Transport was honored in 2022 and 2023. Each week, we strive to hit as close to 100% with on time pick-up and delivery as possible. Thanks to our outstanding Coca-Cola Operations Team and our superior drivers!

With cargo theft in the United States hitting unprecedented levels, Stevens Transport is intensifying its efforts to protect valuable shipments. The company’s resolve comes in response to a startling 68% increase in theft incidents, nationally, during the fourth quarter of 2023, prompting the implementation of additional security initiatives on top of existing procedures and protocol.
Stevens Transport has integrated the use of specialized, heavy-duty, cast steel security locks, engineered to ensure both active and passive trailer doors remain secured. Serving as a formidable deterrent, these locks represent a strong barrier of protection against cargo theft.
Complementing the physical security measures, Stevens Transport has implemented an advanced technology suite. This suite includes real-time outward-facing cameras, geofencing, and telematics applications. These integrated systems are crucial for monitoring route adherence, enabling precise location tracking, providing live camera feeds for continuous surveillance, and swiftly detecting temperature irregularities that could indicate a potential breach in the cold chain.
A key aspect of the security protocol involves geofencing, which establishes virtual perimeters around designated drop-off locations. By incorporating these secure and monitored areas, Stevens Transport ensures that deliveries reach their intended destinations without compromise.
As Stevens Transport integrates additional measures amidst escalating challenges, the proactive approach underscores a commitment to safeguarding the integrity and reliability of the supply chain. In an era where security and efficiency are paramount, this comprehensive strategy sets a benchmark for industry resilience and innovation.
In the ongoing battle against cargo theft, Stevens Transport continues to lead by example, reinforcing trust and delivering peace of mind with every secured shipment.

The 4th of July commemorates the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776 and is often celebrated with festivities from fireworks, parades, and concerts to the more casual gatherings and barbecues, a time shared with family, friends, and loved ones. Fireworks and alcohol consumption are often included in the festivities at many of these events, leading to an increase in safety concerns.
The 4th of July weekend is deemed to be one of the top 5 “deadliest days” of summer on our nation’s highways. Each year, statistics from NHTSA show that July 4th alone has more alcohol related traffic fatalities (38%) than the annual average (30%). Preparation and recognition are key. Plan your trip carefully to not travel in the overnight hours or during peak traffic times. Stay alert. These periods can experience an increase in the risk of collision. Impaired or inattentive drivers can make unexpected movements in traffic causing increased risk to themselves and other motorists.
Recognition of what’s ahead on the road is critical during the holiday uptick. A driver’s first response to a hazard ahead must be to come to a controlled stop and to ensure maintaining a proper stopping distance. For the type of equipment we operate, it is recommended that we maintain a minimum of 6 seconds space ahead in ideal conditions.
Stay safe this summer by following these principles of safe driving!
• Be prepared to adjust your speed even greater when coming into increased traffic, small towns, etc.
○ Another good rule of thumb is not to move the truck immediately when the light turns green. That space cushion, coupled with the practice of not moving until after traffic ahead begins to move, will go a long way towards helping you to avoid rear ending someone who unexpectedly stops.
• Keep space around you even when stopped in traffic.
• Keep a tractor’s length of space between your front bumper and the vehicle ahead.
• Be active in your mirrors and keep them properly adjusted.
○ When mirrors are properly adjusted and consulted other vehicles presence becomes obvious. A 360-degree circle of awareness around your vehicle will help maintain a much-needed space cushion around your vehicle to compensate for the behavior of other motorists.
Properly inspected equipment is critical in reducing breakdowns on the roadway or experiencing CSA violations. There are many items that can easily be identified during a quality pre and post trip inspection that can keep you free from violation.
Here are some items that can easily be identified during your trip:
• A clean truck is one of the most important things to help you during an inspection.
• Keep the dashboard and windshield free of debris or obstructions.
• Always keep your seatbelt on, unless instructed by the DOT officer to remove it during an inspection.
• Condition of tires (inflated, free of damage, and in the proper tread depth)
• Lights (all working and wiped clean of any dirt, debris, or obstruction)
• Wheel hubs (free of leaks, cracks, or damage)
• Emergency equipment in good working order. (fire extinguisher mounted and charged)
• Coupling devices free of wear, chaffing, and all connections confirmed.
• Mirrors and windows clean and free of debris.
• Hours of service up to date from last change of duty status.
• ELD Instructions must be available in your permit book or on your ELD device.
• Medical card(s), prescription glasses and other driver fitness items must be in your possession.
• Operate your vehicle with strict adherence to local, state, and federal laws.
• Obey all posted speed limits, and traffic control devices.
PACCAR companies, Kenworth and Peterbilt, both recently introduced digital mirror systems to their innovative offerings, maximizing visibility and safety for drivers. The Kenworth Digital Mirror System is currently available in the T680 Next Generation and the Peterbilt Digital Vision SystemMirrors (DVS-M) is available in the Model 579.
These digital vision solutions use a High Dynamic Range (HDR) camera integrated into the driver side mirror head and two HDR cameras integrated into the passenger side mirror head. All three cameras feature hydrophobic lenses to repel water, ice and dust, with the aim of improving visibility for drivers during harsh conditions. The mirrors have other unique features including a fuel savings of up to 1.5% due to a smaller side mirror design and include an automatic camera defrost functionality when temperatures are below 43 degrees Fahrenheit.
The cameras are controlled by a joystick interface, and drivers have two large high-definition interior displays for viewing. The driver side display is 12.3 inches, and the passenger side display is 15 inches. Both are located on the A-pillars to avoid windshield visibility disruption and to allow continued use of standard glass.
The displays can be viewed in three layouts: Traditional, Panoramic or Expanded and have vision enhancements features such as automatic trailer tracking and panning with end-of-trailer markers, infrared night vision, and clear inclement weather vision. PACCAR said the mirrors will help to improve driver safety by reducing blind spots on the road, providing clear visibility during inclement weather and by reducing the distraction of headlight glare at night.
In the continued effort to remain in the forefront of innovative solutions and cutting-edge technology, Stevens Transport is currently evaluating driver acceptance and feedback to determine if the digital vision systems are the best fit for our fleet of professional drivers.
Efficient and cost-effective fresh logistics processes improve the accessibility and affordability of healthy, high-quality products, especially during the produce peak season. Although individuals have been told to eat fruits and vegetables all their lives, only a small percentage of the U.S. consumes the recommended amounts. The tide is turning however, and younger generations are more concerned about the foods they eat and how they are sourced.
As the demand for fresh produce increases, so does the complexity of managing peak seasons in fresh logistics. While most fruits and vegetables are accessible year-round, a balance of imports and domestic sources, and a strong understanding of the different environmental growth requirements driving varying produce peak seasons, support the consumer need for healthy options without creating pricing disparities.
Each region’s peak season, from the Pacific Northwest’s blueberries to the South’s peaches, commands a unique logistics strategy. Knowing the timing of different produce seasons helps drive efficiencies in fresh logistics operation and supports produce programs that address pricing disparities. Transitioning from produce imports to domestic produce during the respective seasons requires a significant shift and is one of the innovative ways Stevens Transport continues to set a higher standard with customers and consumers in mind.
Seasonal produce surges create excitement for harvest festivals and family-favorite recipes. These seasonal surges can also challenge fresh logistics operations in various ways. Thoughtful planning from our Operations Produce Team and fostering robust and collaborative relationships with our customers, ensures smooth transitions into the busy produce logistics season.
The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) provides a comprehensive seasonal produce guide to aid in understanding the peak seasons for various produce.
Spring: asparagus, strawberries, lettuce, carrots, garlic.
Summer: tomatoes, corn, watermelon, berries (blueberries, raspberries, blackberries), peaches.
Fall: apples, pumpkin, sweet potatoes, cranberries, brussels sprouts.
Winter: citrus fruits (oranges, lemons, grapefruits), root vegetables (beets, carrots, parsnips), kale, pears, winter squash.
Stevens Transport’s vast understanding of the intricacies of fresh logistics, thorough preparation, and superior execution, helps to support successful produce seasons for all our produce customers.
The Driver Ride Along Program is an initiative that gives operations staff a firsthand experience of the day-to-day life of our drivers. By walking a mile in their shoes, our team gains invaluable knowledge, enhancing decision-making and operational efficiency.
Empathy & Respect: This program is designed to help foster a culture of empathy and respect for our drivers. More than just a learning experience – it’s a bridge connecting our office staff and drivers, strengthening relationships and nurturing a supportive work environment.
Operational Excellence: Firsthand experience translates to smarter in-house operations. Our staff’s newfound understanding is streamlining processes and driving our company forward.
Professional Growth: It’s a journey of growth for our operations staff. Direct knowledge from experts on the road is shaping our team’s skills, making every decision count.
Retention & Culture: Our commitment to drivers’ well-being is clear. Stevens Transport’s vast understanding of the intricacies of fresh logistics, thorough preparation and superior execution, helps to support successful produce seasons for all our produce customers.
The Stevens Transport Roadside Radio Podcast recently celebrated a significant milestone—its 100th episode! What started as an innovative idea three years ago has blossomed into a popular and influential resource for truckers, their families, and anyone interested in the logistics industry.
Angela Horowitz, the visionary behind the podcast, recounts, "It's been an incredible journey over the past couple of years… I could not be more thrilled with what we've accomplished in 100 episodes!" This remarkable achievement underscores the podcast's growing influence and engagement.
The podcast concept was inspired by Stevens Transport's earlier initiative—a radio station led by Major Logan and his impactful contributions. The radio station came to an end after Logan’ relocation to the Pacific Northwest.
This transition left a gap that Angela was determined to fill. Seeing the potential of podcasts as the modern equivalent of radio shows, it led to the birth of the Stevens Transport Roadside Radio Podcast. Angela explained on the 100th episode, "When I was introduced to you [Tim] and the concept, I immediately got excited because I knew how great the radio show was."
One of the most compelling aspects of the Stevens Transport Roadside Radio Podcast is its wide range of content. Tim Cicciarelli, the podcast’s host, reveals, "Providing me, the producer and lucky host of this show, tons of content to pull from and make it a variety show, almost. This could only work here."
From interviews with the company’s top executives to engaging conversations with entry-level drivers, the podcast offers an inclusive platform for all voices. Angela elaborates, "For those who have listened to the podcast over the various seasons, you've heard from the president, the CEO, to our newest entry level driver, to our diesel mechanics, to everybody in operations."
This diversity in content ensures that the podcast remains relevant and interesting to a broad audience. Each episode offers something new, making it a weekly highlight for many listeners. Whether you’re interested in the technical aspects of trucking, want to hear personal stories from drivers, or are keen to understand the inner workings of the company, the podcast has something for everyone.
One of the podcast’s key goals is to foster a stronger sense of community among Stevens Transport employees and their families. Angela expresses, "I just wanted something to connect us all."
By featuring stories from a diverse group of employees, it helps bridge the gap between the different facets of the company. This connectivity is crucial in a 24/7 industry where employees are often thousands of miles apart.
Angela adds, "We are the culture. We are the success stories, our history, and really connecting the inside of the wall and the outside of the wall." This emphasis on connectivity and shared experiences helps build a stronger, more cohesive community within Stevens Transport, connecting drivers and various departments within the company, and engages a broader audience that includes truck driving students, drivers' families, and potential new recruits.
The next 100 episodes of the Stevens Transport Roadside Radio Podcast promises to be even more exciting and engaging. Angela expresses her enthusiasm, saying, "I want to invite everyone to send in things that you would like to hear in the next hundred episodes."
Tim concurs, emphasizing the importance of listener engagement for the podcast's future success. "This is for you. This is not for us. This is not just because it's fun to do, which it is. It's for our audience to learn, to grow, to have community with each other." The podcast’s success story is a testament to the power of innovative thinking, community engagement, and the timeless appeal of storytelling.

Stevens Transport would like to recognize Samuel Alexander and his exceptional decade of dedication and outstanding work ethic!
Congratulations to Samuel Alexander on his 10 years of service with Stevens Transport! In honor of this anniversary, Samuel was awarded a Stevens Transport 10 Year Anniversary ring. Samuel joined Stevens Transport in January 2014, after receiving his CDL training at Lone Star College in Houston and transitioned to independent contractor in June 2014. Samuel attributes much of his success to his trainees and enjoys the relationships he has made as a trainer and continues to foster. Sharing his knowledge and experiences provides him with a sense of doing right by others and helping to create successful careers for others. “Trucking runs in the family,” says Samuel, “…so it was a natural fit.”
Samuel grew up wanting to carry on the legacy of being heroes of the road. His advice to new drivers is to have patience, take it one day at a time, and trust the process. Samuel feels he is supported by the best team of individuals in the Contractor Division and Training Department. Having the opportunity to drive the newest equipment and having consistent miles that translate to creating a strong and steady income are two factors he appreciates most about driving for Stevens Transport. Samuel has completed several leases in his decade of service, noting that receiving lease completion bonus checks are always a highlight! When not delivering loads, Samuel takes exciting blackjack excursions and relaxing vacation cruises with his wife, enjoying the payoff of his hard work.
Congratulations Samuel!
