COMPANY DRIVER OF THE Year Dennis ‘Doc’ Dodson

Dennis ‘Doc’ Dodson is our Company Driver of the Year! Doc joined Stevens Transport in December of 1993 after graduating with his CDL from the Stevens Driving Academy in Dallas, Texas. Doc enjoyed the training he received, and after finishing school, he knew that he had found a forever home with Stevens Transport. When we asked Doc what he attributes his success to, he said: “The experiences and relationships I have created over the years have helped me become the successful driver I am today; I am continually thankful for their support!”

Doc also passed along some advice for our new drivers: “Make sure you do your research about both the industry and where you want to continue your new career. Next, listen to the advice from your fellow drivers, as they have been in your shoes and don’t want you to make the same mistakes they did!” When Doc is not working, he enjoys riding his motorcycle, target shooting, and spending time with his family.

COMPANY DRIVER OF THE Year Jimmie Davis III

Jimmy Davis III is our Runner Up Company Driver of the Year! Jimmy joined the Stevens Transport driving force in 2016 after proudly serving our country in the United States Navy for four years. Of the many critical roles, Jimmy played, driving heavy equipment was what he pursued in his civilian life. In February 2016, Jimmy decided to enroll in the Stevens Driving Academy in Dallas, Texas, where he graduated with his CDL! Stevens Transport is very proud of the veterans in our community, and we are honored to have the ranks of Jimmy amongst our family.

Since joining Stevens Transport, Jimmy has shown that he is one of the premier drivers in the industry by recently joining the Million Miler club! Outside of work, Jimmy enjoys spending his free time riding his 2020 Harley Davidson Street Glide.

INDEPENDENT CONTRACTOR DRIVER OF THE Year Rodney Carr

Rodney Carr is our Independent Contractor Driver of the Year!

Rodney, a Georgia Driving Academy graduate joined Stevens Transport as a company driver in 2010. After a year of success as a company driver, Rodney took the next step and joined our independent contractor division in 2012. As a member of the Independent Contractor Division, Rodney has completed five truck leases! Before becoming a professional driver, Rodney worked in the construction industry, where his work was very physically demanding, and busy times came in waves.

While working on a construction site, Rodney was able to be around and became very interested in big rigs. Rodney’s interest in big rigs led him to decide that he was ready to get behind the wheel of the best trucks on the road, so he came to Stevens Transport. Rodney thoroughly enjoyed being his own boss and traveling the country as a professional driver for Stevens Transport. Outside of work, Rodney enjoys relaxing and spending time with his five children.

INDEPENDENT CONTRACTOR DRIVER OF THE Year Vincent Payne

Please join us in congratulating Vincent Payne on winning Runner Up Independent Contractor of the Year! Vincent, a native of Houston, Texas, worked for the city of Houston for nearly a decade until he decided to enroll in the Stevens Driving Academy and start his career in trucking. Vincent was a company driver for a year prior to joining the Stevens Transport Independent Contractor division and elevating his career to new heights. Flash forward seven years, Vincent has made quite the career here at Stevens Transport, and we are very eager to celebrate his upcoming addition to the Million Mile Club! “Stevens Transport taught me everything that I needed to be successful. I had never been behind the wheel of a big rig before starting here, and now I am on the brink of joining the Million Mile Club. I never imagined that I would be where I am today, and I have Stevens Transport to thank for that,” said Vincent.

Outside of work, Vincent enjoys spending time with family and traveling!

COMPANY DRIVER TRAINER OF THE Year Michael ‘James’ Latterner

Please join us in congratulating Michael ‘James’ Latterner on being named Company Driver Trainer of the Year!

James, a highly experienced driver with over two decades of experience, has been with Stevens Transport for a combined 15 years. James, a native of Houston, Texas, graduated with his CDL from Houston Community College following several years of active-duty service in the United States Army. James joined Stevens Transport in 2001 and spent several years as a driver trainer before answering the call to serve again as a defense contractor, driving in Iraq during the height of the Iraq war.

After spending four years transporting goods across the Iraqi warzone, James returned to the states and went right back to training students for Stevens Transport. Having now spent 15 years as a driver trainer, James enjoys passing on his invaluable experience to the next generation of drivers so that they may have as great of a career in trucking as James has. Outside of work, James enjoys spending his free time with his grandchildren!

COMPANY DRIVER TRAINER OF THE Year Bruce Eastling

Bruce Eastling is our Runner Up Company Driver Trainer of the Year! Bruce, a Stevens Transport Driving Academy graduate, has been with Stevens Transport ever since he got his CDL here in 2010. Bruce had never imagined that he would be a member of the trucking industry. Having spent 27 years working at a paper mill, Bruce enjoyed his job, but as he got older, he was looking for a job that wasn’t so physically demanding.

“I never thought I would leave my job at the mill, but the housing market crash was ultimately the push that I needed,” said Bruce. Having now spent over a decade as a professional driver with Stevens Transport, Bruce enjoys training new drivers to find success in this industry. “I nearly quit this job after six months, had it not been for my trainer, I may have, and I would have never experienced what I have. I think that experience is what got me into driver training. I want to guide others through a career change like my trainer did for me,” said Bruce. Outside of work, Bruce enjoys spending time with family in his hometown of sunny Gainesville, Florida.

INDEPENDENT CONTRACTOR DRIVER TRAINER OF THE Year Scott Menard

Scott Menard is the Stevens Transport Independent Contractor Driver Trainer of the Year! Scott joined Stevens Transport in February of 2015 as a company driver and graduated with his CDL from Stevens Driving Academy in Dallas, TX. Scott enjoyed the training that he received from the Stevens Driving Academy and noted that it helped turn him into the driver he is today! Scott spent a couple successful years as a company driver before becoming taking the next step and becoming an independent contractor in 2017! When we asked Scott what he attributes his success to, he stated: “I have been fortunate to have a very supportive family who encourages me to make every day better than the last. They are the true reason behind my daily achievements, and I’m very thankful for them.” Scott also passed along some sound advice for our new drivers: “Make sure always to get out and look! Also, ask questions, especially when you’re with your trainer, because that’s the most crucial time of your training.” When he is not driving, Scott enjoys fishing and spending time with his family.

INDEPENDENT CONTRACTOR DRIVER TRAINER OF THE Year Wilford Reynolds Jr.

Wilford Reynolds Jr is our Runner Up Contractor Trainer of the Year! Wilford joined the Stevens Transport driving force in December of 2018 after graduating with his CDL from the Stevens Driving Academy. As a contractor driver trainer, Wilford has trained some of the top independent contractors in our fleet to be drivers and manage their new business. The ability to pass down Wilford’s experience and knowledge is one driving factor behind him being such a great trainer.

Wilford enjoys connecting with the trainees that get on his truck, and he loves to keep up with them to see how great of drivers they become. Wilford enjoys spending his free time with his family and friends when he isn’t training!

NEW DRIVER OF THE Year Carlos Machuca Figuero

Carlos Machuca Figueroa, a Stevens Driving Academy graduate, is Stevens Transport’s New Driver of the Year! Carlos was driven to become a professional truck driver because he wanted to make more money to support his family. Carlos enjoyed all of his training experience with Stevens Transport and noted that his trainers were very knowledgeable, which helped relieve the initial nervousness from the beginning of his journey. With the support from his family, Carlos has quickly become successful in his professional career.

Carlos offered this advice to his fellow new drivers, “If you want to be successful, don’t think about it, just do it.” When he’s not rolling down the road, Carlos can be found spending time with his family. Congratulations to Carlos Machuca Figueroa on his accomplishments and much-continued success!

NEW DRIVER OF THE Year Joseph ‘Anthony’ Steele

Joseph ‘Anthony’ Steele is our Runner Up New Driver of the Year! Anthony joined Stevens Transport in July of 2020 and graduated with his CDL from Tampa Truck Driving School in Tampa, FL. Anthony enjoyed the training he received from both Tampa Truck Driving School and Stevens Transport, noting that he valued his instructors’ guidance. When we asked Anthony what he attributes his success to, he replied: “My trainer was very instrumental in developing my successful driving style. My family has also played a big part in my success, as they inspire and push me daily to be the best driver I can be!” Anthony also passed along some advice for our new drivers: “You must be willing to give every day your all and push yourself to your limits. Doing this will you achieve more than you realize!” When Anthony is not working, he enjoys riding his motorcycle and watching sports!

OWNER OPERATOR DRIVER OF THE Year Jose ‘Gerald’ Anaya

Jose ‘Gerald’ Avaya has won this year’s Owner Operator Driver of the Year! Gerald joined Stevens Transport in July of 1997 after graduating with his CDL from Diesel Driving Academy in Little Rock, AR. Gerald went Into Diesel Driving Academy unsure about where this career would take him, but he quickly realized after graduation that Stevens Transport would be his forever home. Gerard stared his journey with Stevens Transport as an independent contractor driver and after completing his lease and purchasing his truck, he took the next steps and hit the road as an owner operator. Gerald has driven over three million miles as a member of the Stevens Transport driving force, setting himself apart as one of the top drivers in the entire industry.

MILLION MILES!

When we asked Gerald what he attributes his success to, he said: “My hard work, determination, and self-discipline have helped me achieve great success in this profession. I have also acquired great advice from my fellow drivers, which has helped me develop a great driving style.” Gerald also passed along some advice for our new drivers: “Be a sponge and soak up all of the information and knowledge that others will provide to you. Furthermore, take your time and don’t rush, as your goal is to deliver your load in one piece.” When Gerald is not working, he enjoys relaxing and spending quality time with his family.

OWNER OPERATOR DRIVER OF THE Year Andy Richardson

Andy Richardson is the Runner Up Owner operator Driver of the Year! Andy joined Stevens Transport in March of 2019 after graduating with his CDL from Georgia Driving Academy in Columbus, GA. Andy was very eager to get behind the wheel after CDL school, but he had to admit that he was very nervous at first. “The focus that Stevens Transport took on developing me as a driver and as a person made me very comfortable when my time to go out solo came,” said Andy. Andy made the jump to independent contractor after a year of success as a company driver and has since completed his lease and taken the next steps of purchasing his truck to become an owner operator!

When we asked Andy what he attributes his success to, he said: “I have instilled a work ethic that will never let me leave any goal unaccomplished. I work hard every day not only for myself but for my trainees as well.” Andy also passed along some advice for our new drivers: “You cannot come into this thinking that it’s just another job; it’s a complete lifestyle change. You also must find out what works for you, as there are different ways to be successful in this industry.” When Andy is not driving or training students, he enjoys spending time at home with his family.

TEAM DRIVERS OF THE Year Christopher & Suzanne Cooper

In 2017, Chris met Suzanne Irvine through a Facebook group, and after meeting up while Chris was taking his break under a load, a romance quickly began to blossom. The following year was a great one for the pair. Their relationship quickly grew, and in August of 2018, Suzanne decided to get her CDL and join Chris on the road! Chris stated that he made sure that she was serious about the career and how this profession would be a complete lifestyle change. “This profession is more than an 8-5 job,” Chris mentioned to Suzanne. “If this is what you want, I want to make sure that you join the Stevens Transport team and receive the best training in the country from the Stevens Driving Academy.”

Flash forward, Chris and Suzanne have seen great success as a team with Stevens Transport, even winning the 2019 RunnerUp Team of the Year. The team has finally won the award they almost captured in 2019! “We will forever be in debt to Stevens Transport for allowing us to meet each other since we originally lived on different sides of the country,” the team stated. “We suggest that anyone who has the opportunity to team with their spouse to take it because it will pay off highly down the road.”

Outside of work, Chris and Suzanne enjoys spending their free time relaxing with their dog!

TEAM DRIVERS OF THE Year Vance & Christy Wheeler

Vance and Christy Wheeler are our Runner Up Team Drivers of the Year! The Wheeler’s have been married for over 25 years, so making the necessary decision to become truck drivers together was an easy one. Vance joined the transportation industry first, having been a member of the Stevens Transport driving force since 2010, but Christy was always eager to see where a career in driving would take her. After watching her husband spend nearly ten years with Stevens Transport, Christy finally decided to join the team and obtain her CDL through the Stevens Driving Academy! Having spent four years on the road together, this husband-and-wife team has made a name for themselves in this company. Hardworking families raised both Vance and Christy to give 110% in everything they do, a trait which they attribute to their professional success. This team has ripped up our nation’s highways for the last couple of years, and many refer to them as the go-to team in a time of need. Life together on the road has been quite sweet for the wheeler family. Outside of work, the husband-and-wife team enjoy relaxing and spending time with family and friends.

DEDICATED DRIVER OF THE Year Jimmy Oyewol

Jimmy Oyewole is our Dedicated Driver of the Year! Jimmy grew up in Jamaica and was brought to Stevens Transport in 2014 by his brother-in-law, a fellow Stevens Transport driver. Jimmy joined the Stevens Driving Academy and graduated with his CDL, then went on to be trained by his brother-in-law, who taught him the ropes of the industry!

As a member of the Kraft Dedicated team, Jimmy has had a superior safety record and has been a driving force of one of our largest dedicated accounts! Jimmy offered this advice to new drivers, “focus on the positives as a driver, don’t ever let yourself become bogged down by the negatives.” We are very fortunate to have a premier driver in Jimmy as a Stevens Transport family member. We look forward to all the extraordinary things Jimmy will achieve during his career with Stevens Transport. Outside of work, Jimmy enjoys spending his free time watching TV with his family.

DEDICATED DRIVER OF THE Year William Bryan

William Bryan is our Runner Up Dedicated Driver of the Year! William, who grew up in West Virginia, spent 30 years teaching horseback riding before becoming a driver at Stevens Transport. “Driving was an itch that I had always wanted to scratch, and Stevens Transport gave me that opportunity.” In 2014, William obtained his CDL from the Stevens Driving Academy and learned everything that he would need to know to become a top-notch driver. William has been with Stevens Transport for seven years now and is quickly approaching the million-mile club! “I love every second of working at Stevens Transport; they couldn’t get me to leave with a herd of dinosaurs,” said William. When he isn’t behind the wheel, you may find William fishing or cooking bread, a hobby he enjoys outside of work!
