or the fifth consecutive year, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Hiring Our Heroes Program, FASTPORT and Kenworth are recognizing military veterans transitioning to a civilian career as a professional truck driver. Qualifying finalists will be presented with the “Transition Trucking: Driving for Excellence” award. The grand prize winner will hit the road in a brand-new fullyloaded Kenworth T680 (valued at $185,000) while obtaining financial independence and establishing a long-term career in the transportation industry as both a small business owner and true Owner-Operator.

To qualify for the award, one must: • Have been active military or a member of the National Guard or Reserve • Have graduated from PTDI-certified, NAPFTDS or CVTA member driver training school with a valid CDL • Have been employed by a trucking company that has made a hiring commitment and pledge to hire veterans on the Trucking Track Mentoring Program ●

• Have been hired in a trucking position between January 1, 2019 and June 30, 2020

Stevens submitted five hard-working and dedicated drivers for the 2020 award, detailed below:

Ray Miller A native of Bellevue, NE, Ray decided early to serve his country before following the footsteps of his parents into the transportation industry. Enlisting in the Army in 1992, he served his 26-year Active Duty career in the most challenging way possible - Infantry. Through his demonstrated tenacity, values, and warrior ethos, Ray was chosen to serve in all key positions of leadership from squad to brigade, up to First Sergeant. His ten assignments and combat tours included Europe, Korea, the Balkans, and the Middle East.

After his promotion to Master Sergeant E8 in 2018, Ray retired to pursue a life over the road, as other family members had before him. He earned his CDL from Lone Star Community College and now serves as one of the top OTR drivers for Stevens Transport CD, Inc. Driver Manager: Joseph Jenkins

Ray Miller Gail Losee

Gail grew up surrounded by the military and longed to follow in her family’s footsteps in the United States Army and Army Reserves. After enlisting in 1989, Gail served her 20-year career in the Transportation and Logistics sector, reaching the rank of Captain O3. Her assignments and combat tours included Iraq for Operations Desert Storm and Iraqi Freedom and Kuwait. After retiring in 2009, Gail took some well-deserved time off, but missed the feeling of being behind the wheel and making a difference in her career. Sherecently obtained her CDL from Premier Truck Driving School in February of 2020, and is now delivering loads with Stevens Transport, Inc., and is greatly appreciative for the opportunity to keep the grocery store shelves stocked and food on every family’s table with the loads she is delivering!

Driver Manager: Barbara Roberts

David Reardon Surrounded by the military lifestyle at a young age, David Reardon knew that he was destined to serve. In May of 1992, David enlisted and spent the next 20 years and eight deployments as an Infantry Officer. Upon climbing the ranks to Lieutenant Colonel, David retired in May of 2012. After engaging in other careers, David made the decision to pursue his childhood career as a

professional driver, obtained his CDL from Stevens Driving Academy, LP, and is currently one of the top OTR drivers at Stevens Transport, Inc. Driver Manager: Diana Johnson

Howard Paine Howard signed up to protect his country by joining the United States Air Force in 1986. For the next 22 years, Howard served as an Aerospace Ground Equipment Craftsman and deployed nine times around the world. Howard retired from his post in 2008 in search of a career that him with adventure and purpose. He found that in trucking and earned his CDL from New England Tractor Trailer Training Driving School in Bridgeport, CT. He began driving for Stevens Transport, Inc. shortly thereafter, and is currently one of the top OTR drivers in the fleet.

Driver Manager: Diana Johnson

Tylone Whitney Tylone has always wanted to honor his country in any capacity, a dream realized when he joined the Army in 1998. For the next 12 years and eight months, Tylone served as a Small Arms/Artillery Repairer, supporting military operations in the United States, Iraq, and Afghanistan. After being honorably discharged in 2011, Tylone pursued other careers, but ultimately longed for a career that offered more personal independence and freedom. He found

Tylone Whitney both of those qualities and more in the transportation industry. Shortly after graduating with his CDL from Careers World Wide in Keenesburg, CO, Tylone joined Stevens Transport, Inc., and is now one of the top drivers in the fleet.

Driver Manager: Denodus O’Bryant “We are honored to have so many veterans in our driving force, and are proud to have such a phenomenal group to nominate for this award,” Driver Relations Manager Lorie Jensen said. “Each and every one of these drivers is deserving of this award. I’m excited to see what the future holds for our nominees and hope to take one or more of them back to Washington D.C this year!”

The announcement of the Top 10 Finalist will be on September 1st, and the Final 3 will be revealed later that month. The Final 3 will then undergo a public vote from October 26 - November 11, and will finally travel to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Hall of Flags in Washington, D.C. on December 18 alongside industry professionals, military officials and media outlets to hear the final award announcement.

Stellar Associate Celebrates Great Milestone

Many of John’s co-workers at General Mills, including Senior Manager of National Transportation Operations Rachel Deur, shared fond memories with John. “John has played such an important role in building the partnership between Stevens and General Mills.

Through all the General Mills network changes, new technologies, and improvement projects over the years, John has never hesitated to collaborate with us to help ensure success. I am very appreciative of the time John has dedicated to the General Mills business, and we wish him all the best in the future!”

tevens Transport wants to thank John Berglund for his nine years of service to the General Mills account as the on-site Customer Service Representative. To celebrate his 40-year career in the transportation industry, a virtual celebration was held in his honor.

“John has been an incredible asset to both the General Mills and Stevens teams,” Vice Chairman Todd Aaron said. “His care and concern for both his General Mills teammates and Stevens family members speaks volumes, along with his quality character and moral compass. He will be missed dearly!”

John recalled the many memories he made at both General Mills and Stevens. “It was an awesome feeling when Stevens had the privilege of being named General Mills’ inaugural recipient of the On-Time In Full (OTIF) Carrier of the Year award. It was great knowing that the hard work that all of us supplied to this partnership paid off!”

General Mills’ Director of North American Transport Phillip West also passed along sentiments about John’s service. “While we are certainly sad to see him go, we are thrilled for him! We are very thankful for all of his hard work and diligence on behalf of both Stevens and General Mills to continue to advance our partnership and business together. He’s been a great partner for us and we truly appreciate all that he has done!”

John’s advice to those beginning their careers in this industry: “Be upfront with people, and don’t be afraid to ask questions. Also, be truthful and honest with your co-workers and customers at all times because it will serve you well in the end.”

TRUCK SHOWS HITTING THE WEB While several U.S. states have begun “reopening” businesses and activities as COVID-19 continues to sweep the nation, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), along with federal, state, and local governments, continues to recommend social distancing protocols, among other safety measures, to help decrease viral spread.

“This decision has been made with the health and wellbeing of all participants first and foremost in mind,” GATS parent company Randall-Reilly said in a statement on the GATS website. “This pandemic has underscored how critical the industry and drivers are to the well-being of America. #MEETSTEVENS Ronda Wood Training Counselor Ronda joined Stevens in February of 2018. She is recognized for her reliability and superb quality work.

One of Ronda’s favorite parts of her job is having the opportunity to help the new members of the driver force. When we asked Ronda about what she attributes to her success, she said: “I enjoy seeing my former students happy and making successful careers as a solo driver and even driver trainers. I truly appreciate it when these students stop to see and thank me for helping them during their training experience; that makes my job so much more rewarding!” Ronda also passed along some sound advice for our new associates: “You can accomplish so much more than you believe! Just put your mind to it, and you will be surprised with what you will be able to achieve!” Outside of work, Ronda enjoys going to concerts, watching movies, and spending time with her three children!

Tim McKnight Alliance Leasing Coordinator

Tim joined Stevens in March of 2005. He is recognized for his daily dedication and excellence in his work.

One of Tim’s favorite parts of his job is supplying new drivers with both information and advice to help make them successful. When we asked Tim what he attributes to his success, he answered: “I come to work knowing every day that I will have a target to meet on ready trucks, with turn in trucks, and other small jobs that come about. When I’m able to be trusted to complete those tasks and drivers can come to me for advice, I know I have successfully completed my day.” Tim also passed along some sound advice for our new associates: “Come to work with a desire to learn and ask questions. Also, don’t be afraid to take on new challenges because they will help you grow in your position.” Outside of work, Tim enjoys fishing, playing sports, and grilling with his family.

Pam Gimmarco Brokerage Manager - Ohio II Office Pam joined Stevens in June of 2000. She is recognized for her hard work and consistent dedication to making every day better than the last. One of Pam’s favorite parts of her job is the new challenges that she encounters every day. When we asked Pam what she attributes to her success, she replied: “My co-workers and the leadership that is present in our office motivates me daily. II know I have satisfactorily completed my day when I can leave the office knowing that I did the best I could do.” Pam also passed along some sound advice to our new associates: “Always listen, and never stop learning. There is so much knowledge that you can gain from everyone around you!” Outside of work, Pam enjoys camping, reading, kayaking, and spending time with her five grandchildren.

#MEETSTEVENS Michael Byrant Contract Division Team Driver Manager Michael joined Stevens in April of 2016. He is recognized for his dedication to his fleet and willingness to lend a helping hand wherever one is needed. One of Michael’s favorite parts of his job is the daily interactions he has with his drivers. When we asked Michael what he attributes to his success, he stated: “I really enjoy the team that I work with. They motivate me to meet my deadlines, targets, and goals every day.” Michael also passed along some sound advice for our new associates: “Come in every day with a positive attitude and willingness to give everything you can to your position. Also, make sure to ask questions because there is something new to learn in this industry every day!” Outside of work, Michael enjoys watching Dallas Cowboys games, throwing horse shoes, and spending time outdoors with his wife and six children.

Christina Guillory Trailer Shop Service Writer Christina joined Stevens in January of 2015. She is recognized for her constant willingness to lend a helping hand when needed and her positive attitude. One of Christina’s favorite parts of her job is the great people that she has the opportunity to work for. When we asked Christina what he attributes to her success, she stated: “I strive to be successful for my children. I know that I achieved success when I can complete all of my tasks promptly.” Christina also passed along some sound advice for our new associates: “Come in every day prepared to work hard. Make sure to ask questions when you are unsure of something, and take initiative on different projects.” Outside of work, Christina enjoys traveling, working out, and spending time outdoors with her children.

Aldin Tabakovic Service Writer Aldin joined Stevens in December of 2018. He is recognized for his perseverance and consistent dedication to his co-workers and the drivers. One of Aldin’s favorite parts of his job is the Camaraderie that he has with his co-workers. When we asked Aldin what he attributes to his success, he said: “I enjoy the constant challenges that I encounter daily. I am always working to better myself in every task I do, and know that my day is successful when I can do a task more efficiently.” Aldin also passed along some sound advice for our new associates: “Make it a point to always ask questions. Your co-workers are here to help and want to see you succeed, so they will pass along any advice that they can.” Outside of work, Aldin enjoys going to the gym and playing soccer.
