STEVENS SEES SUCCESS AT GATS

Last month, Stevens Transport attended the Great American Trucking Show at the Kay Baily Hutchinson Convention Center in Dallas, TX. During the three-day event, the Stevens booth saw a high amount of show attendees, ranging from prospective drivers to families looking to enjoy the show and learn more about the transportation industry and the opportunities it offers. The event also hosted award ceremonies for the Transition Trucking: Award for Excellence, the Mike O’Connell Trucking’s Top Rookie Award, and Overdrive’s Pride and Polish event.

Transition Trucking: Driving for Excellence Award The first award, presented by FASTPORT, Kenworth and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation’s Hiring our Heroes Program, recognizes veterans, guard members and reservists who have made the successful transition in the trucking industry following military service. The Top 10 Finalists were selected out of thousands of entrants across North America and narrowed down to the Top 4.

Stevens driver Steve Harris, who served 13 and a half years and deployed to Iraq, Syria, and Afghanistan in the Marine Corps, was eager to know the results. Steve’s recognition in this award marks the third consecutive year that Stevens has had a Top finalist in this highly prestigious competition.

“I am very humbled to have been selected as a Top 4 Finalist,” Steve said. “I am always asked what the secret to my success is. But there is no secret. I am always humble, and always try to be the hardest worker in the room. I am now very eager to attend the ceremony in Washington, D.C., and know that with the support of everyone at Stevens, I will be victorious.”

INDUSTRY NEWS congregations, and anyone else you know to vote daily on transitiontrucking. org from October 1-November 1. The four finalists will travel to the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. in December, and the finalist with the most online votes will be named the grand prize winner.

Mike O’Connell Trucking’s Top Rookie Award The second award, presented by Randall-Reilly Publishing, the Commercial Vehicle Training Association, and Truckers News, focuses on the professionalism of drivers in the industry for less than a year, and also promotes truck driving as a viable career choice. Stevens driver Dwight Arnold was selected as a Top 10 Finalist from thousands of entrants and was on the edge of his seat the entire ceremony, anxious to hear the results. Dwight was shocked and elated when the announcer revealed that he was the recipient of the award! Dwight received $10,000, along with prizes from the RoadPro Family of Brands and Rand McNally.

“You’re only limited by your own potential and hard work,” Dwight said. “If I’m willing to workhard enough in trucking, I know I can make something of myself and do that for my family!”

“I know how hard the job is that they perform every day, and to see them recognized as some of the top in their league in the industry is exciting enough,” Vice President of Driver Relations and Administration Angela Horowitz said of both Steve and Dwight. “To see them win or move on as a final finalist is very thrilling. It takes my breath away and I’m so proud of them and the successthey’ve found at Stevens and within the trucking industry.”

Overdrive’s Pride and Polish Pride and Polish, the premier truck beauty championship series in North America, saw entries from hundreds of transportation companies from across the country. The trucks that entered were cleaned and polished, accessorized and customized, front to back and bumper to bumper. Congrats to Gabe Rosenthal and his detailing team for taking home second place in the Working Tractor and Trailer Combo Class!

Stevens Celebrates Our Drivers!

National Truck Driver Appreciation Week, celebrated this year from September 8-14, celebrates and honors all professional truck drivers for their hard work and commitment in tackling one of our economy’s most demanding and important jobs. The 3.5 million professional men and women who keep America moving forward not only deliver goods safely, securely and on time, but also play a crucial role in the supply chain industry.

This year, Stevens Transport celebrated our hard-working and dedicated driver force in many ways, including providing treats throughout the week in the newly renovated Driver’s Lounge and raffling off daily prizes including gift cards, televisions, fishing chairs, and Hampton Inn & Suites weekend stays. All of our drivers were entered into the raffle, and we had over 140 winners chosen!

Stevens ended the week with a big bang, where drivers enjoyed a backyard-style cookout with lunch catered

by Fuddruckers and chose the chili champion in several categories in the Office Staff Chili Cook-Off. “We are very proud to have the finest drivers in the industry here at Stevens,” Driver Relations Manager Lorie Jensen said. “I’m always excited to be able to show our appreciation to our fabulous driving force, especially during Driver Appreciation Week!”

WALK AGAINST HATE WITH STEVENS TRANSPORT This month, Stevens participated in the Anti-Defamation League’s inaugural Walk Against Hate event at Victory Plaza in Dallas as a top sponsor! Stevens associates and their families joined the rest of the Dallas community to stop the defamation of the Jewish people, and to secure justice and fair treatment to all! We had tons of fun and can’t wait to participate again next year!

Deserving Award Congratulations to Stevens driver Arturo Lopez for completing three million accident-free miles.

To date, this superior achievement has only been achieved by one percent of drivers across America!

When asked if there was a secret to his success, Arturo explained, “I don’t think about the miles that I am driving. My high priority on safety contributed to my many achievements and awards that I have received at Stevens.”

Start of A New Career Arturo was inspired by his brother-in-law, who was also a professional driver, to join the transportation industry. He obtained his CDL in Arizona before he relocated to Texas.

After exploring other professions, Arturo decided to pursue his childhood dream.

He started his journey at Stevens in January of 1994. Arturo recalled that he chose Stevens because it was thefirst advertisement he saw in the newspaper, and he instantly knew it would be his new home.

Arturo enjoyed his training experience at Stevens and loved every second with his trainer OscarPerez. “Honestly, I did not want to get off of his truck. He taught me so much and was the best trainer I could have asked for. I still call him to this day and ask him questions!”

Expanding Horizons Later in his driving career, Arturo took advantage of the many opportunities

that Stevens offers their drivers, and decided to become a driver trainer and an Independent Contractor with our Contractor Division. “I not only wanted to give back to the company that has given me so much but also pass along all of the knowledge I have gained to the new generation of drivers. I was always excited to receive a new trainee and worked hard to help them accomplish great success.”

“Every person who works behind the scenes, from the Safety department both in Laredo and at headquarters, to my Driver Manager, plays a vital role in my success.

They are the ones that keep me rolling every day and help me complete a satisfactory delivery every time.”

Laredo Safety Manager Edgar Lopez spoke high praise of Arturo and commended him on his stellar safety record. “Arturo is an attentive driver who always puts safety first. He is also very outgoing and cares about everyone, from his trainees to everyone in the office. I am very happy that Arturo is a part of the Stevens team and cannot wait to see what else he will accomplish in the future!”

When Arturo is not delivering loads on his dedicated route, he loves spending time doing chores around the house, including tending to his lawn and his plants and spending time with his wife, children, and twin grandchildren.

#MEETSTEVENS Alex Dale Brokerage Accounts Payable Alex joined Stevens in October of 2017. She is recognized for her positive and resilient attitude and her problem-solving skills. One of Alex’s favorite parts of herjob is that every day is never the same. When we asked Alex about what motivates her to her continued success, she said: “Knowing that I am part of the success of my team pushes me to do my best every day. I also understand that not only do my coworkers depend on me, but also outside carriers that haul for us.” Alex also shared some helpful advice for our new employees: “Make sure to always follow through on all of your tasks. That will ultimately help you succeed inthe long run.” Outside of work, Alex enjoys refinishing furniture, painting, and sewing.

Steve Nguyen Corporate Recruiter Steve joined Stevens in February. He is recognized for his passion and commitment within the workplace and seeing the potential in others and knowing where their skills fit best within Stevens. One of Steve’s favorite parts of his job isproviding individuals with the opportunity of a new career and the chance to better their lives. When we asked Steve about what motivates him to his continued success, he stated: “I am a part of a team, and never want to let my team down. If I can help my team succeed daily, then I will help in any way that I can.” Steve also shared some helpful advice for our new employees: “Stevens will give back to you what you put in. Always work hard and be prepared, and you will have a very rewarding experience.” Outside of work, Steve enjoys playing basketball, spending time with his children, watching movies, and rooting for the Cowboys.

Robert Blanson Truck Shop Supervisor Robert started Stevens in January of 2012. He is recognized for his commitment to his team and a dedicated work ethic. One of Robert’s favorite parts of his job is working alongside his teammates to make every day great. When we asked Robert what motivates him to succeed, he said: “My family is my biggest source of motivation. I want to be the best role model that I can for them, so that keeps me motivated every day.” Robert also passed along some helpful advice for our new employees: “Always keep your motivation and determination high. These characteristics will always help you to succeed!” Outside of work, Robert enjoys spending time at the race track, camping, and spending time with his family

#MEETSTEVENS Jennifer Lindsey Personal Medical Hold Liaison Jennifer joined Stevens in March. She is recognized for her punctuality and for going above and beyond to helping our drivers get back to work. One of Jennifer’s favorite parts of her job is lending a helping hand to our driver force whenever she can. When we asked Jennifer what motivates her to her continued success, she stated: “My strong management and the support I receive from my team every day help me accomplish my daily tasks. My job every day is to help our drivers, so if I am able to accomplish that, I know I have completed the Stevens mission.” Jennifer also passed along some helpful advice for our new hires: “Make sure you love what you are doing. Your team will also be a great support system, so ask them questions if you have any doubts!” Outside of work, Jennifer enjoys going to musicals, watching movies, and spending time with her friends.

Craig Angell Kraft/Heinz On-Site Representative Craig joined Stevens in September of 2007. He is recognized for his strong and dedicated work ethic and ability to foster a teamwork atmosphere with his coworkers. One of Craig’s favorite parts of his job is that he is challenged every dayat a very loyal and well-established company. When we asked Craig about what motivates him to his continued success, he responded: “I enjoy the teams I work with. I always try to be consistent on a daily basis to help out with everyone’s needs and concerns on both sides.” Craig also shared some helpful advice for our new employees: “Every role at Stevens plays an important role in Stevens’ success. Stay focused on the day’s task and you will be rewarded!” Outside of work, Craig enjoys camping, fishing, sports and spending time with his family.

Patrica Phillips Shop Parts Team Lead Patricia joined Stevens in January of 2018. She is recognized for her dedication, hard work, and attention to detail. One of Patricia’s favorite parts of her job is helping our drivers as well as training the new parts clerks to be more efficient in their daily duties and tasks. When we asked Patricia what motivates her to her continued success, she responded: “I admire that Stevens offers plenty of opportunities to grow and succeed within the company. This not only motivates me daily but also makes me eager to learn more and help my co-workers when needed.” Patricia also passed along some helpful advice for our new hires: “Always be on time and perform your best.
